Does Raw Intuition need to lose the negative effect?

Now that Raw Intuition lost the "heal crits from behind" bug, it got me wondering if raw intuition as a skill should have the negative effect removed, or failing that, some other buff. I know the point is to have it be able to backfire, which makes it more dynamic and fun to use. But on the other hand, is the payoff high enough?

Easily worth it, if you're that scared only pop it with awareness and cancel raw intuition before it wears off. However if you do a proper pull before they start AOEing and you have to move you shouldn't have to pop awareness yet.

Hence the ideal way in big pulls is group them all up get a few hits in once you start to anticipate AOEs or once 5 seconds wears off pop awareness. You now have no penalty from it.

The penalty should never be a factor in a MT situation

I have noted that some mobs, their pathing will, no matter how you try to position them, they'll be hitting your side. I've had mobs standing what seemed like directly in front of me critting me with raw intuition up. The effect only worsens with multiple which you would imagine would be the best time for it.

I don't think it's at all necessary, but it's also not that big of a deal. Meh.

If you are talking about tanking multiple mobs, be aware that mob hitboxes cannot overlap. And they will push themselves around to hit you from the side.

Also warriors technically stand with their bodies sidways, but your hitbox only considers the front to be where the small arrow indicator is.

yer. the skill is really nice. even with the drawback. but i think the drawback is needed or the skill becomes too good. it gives a reason to think about positioning and with our current skillset it needs its drawback

That is the exact problem I run into too often to be comfortable using Raw Intuition, at least yet. If the guaranteed crit were only from behind, and flank were normal, I'd be fine, but inevitably if there are more than a few enemies or if there are multiple large enemies (like, y'know, dragons) they all end up kind of oozing around my sides no matter how I try to position them. The only time I've ever felt safe using it was on boss fights without adds coming up in the next 20 seconds, and even with those, only when I know there won't be any AOE zones incoming at the same time as boss attacks.

Something needs to be changed about it definitely. With the removal of the crit heals, and the change to make strength not effect parry strength and parry now being a flat 20%, Raw Intuition is now just an incredibly bad Rampart.

The skill is a physical only rampart, that is positional dependent, and if your positioning is off instead of reducing damage by 20%, you get your damage received by 50%. I remember during leveling and being in The Vault dungeon, the only reason this skill was doing a god damn once the Encounter invalidated it was the bug.

Heres the real deal for Heavensward and future content : Encounters can change the values of skills, in a magical dominant encounter, Raw intuition is fucking useless, Shelltron won't block, Dark Mind works just fine. What is good and not good is based on how they design the fight. For Raw intuition to hold its weight Encounters need to be set-up so that there is stuff to parry, if there isn't. Ctrl+ delete.

Your facing updates as slowly as NPC facing, or in other words, you're not actually facing the way you see yourself facing for about another entire second. So yes, having auto-crits from flank is incredibly stupid given how the game engine works. You WILL be hit from the flank if you're ever tanking more than 3, maybe even 2, enemies. Facing isn't two 180 degree sections for front and back like in WoW, facing is 4 90 degree segments, and when monsters push themselves around, you WILL be getting hit from the flank. This is also a big problem for Sheltron. Inversely, they need to make blocks happen from flank hits at least for Sheltron if not all blocks and parries.

Btw, I thought I noticed something weird about Parry amount, but I thought it was just from levelling. It's really only 20% all the time now? The tooltip is just outdated? Does anyone know if Str still increases Block amount and if Dex increases Parry/Block rate? I can't believe they would do this. Warriors, and maybe Dark Knights, should parry for more than in ARR, not less, because they can't block.

This post is stupid. The crit heals were a bugged, Raw Intuition was explained ages on how it works. It was never meant to crit heals and it was always meant to take crit damage from the flank and the back.

If you are getting hit from the flank when tanking and using RI you are doing something wrong.

RI isn't the equivalent of Rampart. Its the equivalent of Bulwark and Dark Dance.

Plus its a buff designed for boss fights not trash pulls.

If you're tanking 3 enemies and you attack one of the enemies on the side, then you'll be facing that one. Then the enemy on the other side, and possibly the middle enemy, will be hitting your flank even though it visually looks mostly like your front. That's the problem. You could turn off auto-facing when using a weaponskill, but that's not fun. :(

Anyway, that's not really the point. The point is that the risk is too high. I don't care if they retain the mechanic of parrying from only the front, but being auto-crit from the flank sounds stupid to me. However, I would warn people from comparing it to Rampart. Different Jobs are different, and they shouldn't have carbon copies of ability sets. Paladin has Rampart but not Inner Beast, for example. If they must keep the stupidly high risk of this ability, then I think it should also make each parry generate one stack of Wrath/Abandon.

If it really is an ability primarily for single target fights like bosses, then okay. I disagree with that design, but I understand. Certainly something's going very wrong if you're getting hit from the flank often there.

It's a waste when warriors only get parry as mitigation with a high level skill.
Paladins on the other hand get rampart: Reduce damage taken by 20% at level 5 or so. This will stack with any attacks blocked or parried as well.

Combined with the downside of getting crit by everything even non parryable attacks it sucks and it's not fun.

The duration could just be reduced and the crits removed. I'd still take rampart any day over raw intuition : (

How about you ask for something making you more unique. Like parries allow you to attack them. I would love Ripostes.

I think the skill is fine. It's our equivalent of Bullwark only its a 100% rate and a risk involved. We have Inner Beast / Vengence / Equilibrium / Thrill of Battle / to deal with magic damage (or unblockable stuff). If we had another "reduce damage taken" cooldown our class would start becoming a bit more homogenized (my opinion) and that's no fun!

@Nektulos-Tuor Vengence already deals damage back to the targets that attack us.

There is also the issue in that, when using it, you need to be targetting an enemy in the middle of a pack of foes, or else you'll be crit heavily. The skill has little to do with skillful use. Since front is a cone, enemies can and will crit the hell out of you even if they seem to be right in front, because if they are just a little to the side, if you are targetting one that isnt in the middle of a pack, they will crit you. There is way to much trade off for this skill. I feel its almost just useful for the extra stack of wrath/abandon.

I want aware that shelton had the bonus effect "Take extra magic damage during use". The issue here is that it has this big negative tacked on which makes it far less useful. On large packs its suicide to use, on small packs its usefulness plumets.

Warrior has always been the high risk/high reward tank. Raw Intuition fits the class perfectly. It's a high skill cap tank. Warrior can do everything a Paladin can it just takes more work and timing. In every Coil I would learn content as Paladin to make it easier on my healers and once I had the rotations down I would swap to Warrior and achieve the same results with more utility and damage.

I plan on doing DRK/WAR for Heavensward. I still believe Inner Beast is hands down the best defensive cooldown in the game given that it can be used approximately every 20s for 6s of 20% damage reduction. Paladin has Rampart/Sentinel for flat reduction. Bulwark is still RNG even if it gets you to 90% block there is still a 10% chance you take a full hit. Sheltron is pretty nice, but I've talked to a few FC Paladins who complain it gets eaten by an auto attack instead of what they are trying to block. But beyond Sheltron Paladin will still have gaps in their mitigation like before. It was always terrifying in Turn 5 right around the transition into the last phase when you had zero cooldowns up for Death Sentence. Rampart was always around 15s left on the cooldown and you're just screaming in Teamspeak for Adlo/Stoneskin/Virus.

We're talking about trash pulls here, you really don't NEED cooldowns for them it just makes more work for your healers, but there are still plenty of ways to deal with trash pulls outside of Raw Intuition. We Warriors did just fine pre Heavensward without it. Before Heavensward Warrior was the best speed runner for farming high level dungeons, lost that mantle to DRK now, but still pretty solid. Now Warrior has a nice CD for physical boss fights in Raw Intuition.

Stupid question, I know, but how can you tell the difference between a physical boss and a magical boss? I am new to tanking, I just got my warrior soul crystal last night. Also, is it 100% mandatory to take gladiator to 34 for awareness?

You need Gla 22 or something for Provoke. 34 could be useful but not mandatory. I got it, but quickly removed Awareness of my cross class skills for Second Wind.

Awareness was amazing in Shiva Ex since her Bow form was always crit damage. And they stated that they planned to add more crit mechanics into the game to make Awareness useful. Go for 34 you may end up needing Awareness.

i really dont get the idea of its negative effect
but it does make me use awareness a lot more so....im not sure if its matter of balance

You generally want all of your cross class skills. A pain in the ass I know, but its one of the things you just deal with and get done.

Well, with the new armory bonus for having a 60 I notice in low low level dungeons (sastasha) you can get 2 levels per run. I got to 22 on Gladiator first in about 5 hours then got my already level 15 marauder to 17 in a single night.

The next night we went from 17 to 30 and got our job quests (I'm leveling with a friend).

Since my friend needs to get lancer to 34 for Blood for Blood, and lancer in general for Monk, we're in the same boat (I needed Glad to 15 period for Warrior, plus Provoke is 100% mandatory, plus Awareness seems to be also).

Uh. I mean. That's... trash... in 4 man dungeons... I think you'll be okay without using RI unless Awareness is up.

90% of content in the game is casual, which is okay. I like casual stuff, but when success is almost guaranteed to begin with, all that's left is what feels fun. I don't think this ability is fun because the risk is too high for the reward. The risk is so high that I think the reward necessary to match the risk would have to be overpowered, and that's not exactly fun either. So that's why I say they should just remove auto-crits from flank. It would be a little bland, but at least then it'd be fine.

In response to Nektulos earlier, I like things with counters/reactions too, so that's why I proposed each parry generates 1 Wrath/Abandon, though that would probably have to be normalized somehow against multiple enemies, like giving it an internal cooldown of 1-2 secs. Plus the duration or cooldown would probably have to be adjusted because that could be slightly too strong.

To Krissey: Unfortunately, the combat log (Battle chat tab) doesn't seem to say when you take fire damage or whatever, so you just have to guess. To this day I still am not sure if Mountain Buster from Titan Hard, not Extreme, is Earth or Physical damage, but it's probably Physical because it's definitely Physical on Extreme. However, Tumult (stomps) and Weight of the Land are very likely Earth damage. It's frustrating.

If you want to know if an attack is physical or magical, check to see if your parry it at some point, or get a sacrifical BLM to pop either Manaward or Manawall and see what happens, haha! If its magical, they'll take little to no damage with Manaward up; if physical, they'll take no damage with Manawall up.
