How about letting us slot one materia to rare/ex gear?

Just what the title says. The first slot is not forbidden. There is zero chance to lose your gear. The craft that repairs the gear can slot materia to it etc.

That way Crafted gear can still be more powerful cause you can slot up to 5 materia to it but you can still put a little customization on those hard earned rare/ex gears. Lets face it Unless rare/ex gear is much more powerful then crafted gear (which so far it is not) no one is gonna try to get rare/ex gear because it not the most powerful and you can not even slot one materia to it.

What do you think?

In the main thread I just suggested 2 max, so obviously I support this idea or something similar to that effect.

still uses materia made from crafted gear, which keeps crafters in demand, but lessens the impact of raids becoming less important with a new contender. Then again, once yoship posts the stats of the materia we can all make better decisions finally.

you can attach materia to rare/untradable gear.

edit: i just realized i dont understand your statement, are you saying limit it to 1 or please allow 1 because you think you can not do any.

Since posting on Friday night (well, actually I guess it was Saturday morning), I read over all your feedback!
I was thinking to post a tiny bit after tomorrow, but checking today I saw quite a bit of posts, so here is some quick information.

・Looking into changing the name of “Spirit Bond.” (This is important, so let’s hear your feedback!)
・Looking into materia conversion of EX/RARE item next update
　(With the premise that EX/RARE will not yield special stats when converted to materia)
・Materia attachment to EX/RARE items will currently not be possible (Depends on content updates)
・The calculation system fixes are being implemented at the same time, so it will be possible to feel the weight of stats +1(Matsui is doing his best!)
　(In anticipation of this, materia stats are also being adjusted. Currently on the home stretch)
・It will be possible to convert secondary tools into materia, as well as attach materia to them.(Forgot to write this…)

The materia craft introduction system will be added as quests.
Also, after writing out the full specifications of the system, it definitely seems quite complicated. However, for the actual process of adding a single piece of materia to a single item, while there will be certain requirements of materia effects that can be attached depending on the equipment slot, there is no fear of failure and it will only enhance your equipment, so it’s really not as complicated as it looks.
This is essentially the starting line.

Once you start to get fixated on stats and begin target and hunt down materia effects, you will need to have a good grasp of the specifics. However, since this is a game it is only natural.
I’d like to officially release the stats as much as possible!

Since this is content that I would like to update for a long time from here on out, besides for the “forbidden” aspect, it is being created to be as simple as possible.

There is no need to put materia in them when SE increase the stats a bit.

But there is already rare/ex gear in the game. Those will be obsolete when materia comes out because they are already not so good. What do we do with those? the raid gear is not all that great either... what do we do with those?

Unless you want SE to go back and retool all that gear which i think is to much work IMO

There will probably alot of balancing needs to go on again if they decide to let r/x gear gets 1 materia slot.

Well, it's supposed that Unique/Untradable gear have more stats and bonuses than the normal gear, so I say, leave it non-attachable for now. We might see it important in the future.

I think they should make it even more similair to Materia in that they could balance items by giving them more/less slots.

But hey, that would actually require some work and balancing.

these percentages are based on the assumption that bonding the 4th and 5th piece of meteria will be fairly difficult.

so what i mean by this is rare gear shoul be obviously better then crafted, but after putting 3 materia on crafted you see the gear start to even out. if you can get 4 or 5 materia on it you'll se the gear start to outperform the rare gear.

i think doing this would create a better sense of gear balance. you dont want either gear to become obsolete so a system like this would give some flexibility.

right now crafted and rare gear stats are too close that rare gear will become obsolete, they shold at least make rare gear turn into rare materia.

True that is a good idea and we all know this system is new so they will balance it in later updates.

Anyway on your point what if a gear is so strong its only allowed 2 slots. Are they both forbidden or is the first one free at all times?

Questions to be asked for this one.

in ff7 different weapons had dif amount of slots, if i recall correctly i think one of sids lances had 7 slots which was the most of any weapon.

It really took me a second to grasp what you were getting at. But once I comprehended this, I was ok with it. It shows how it could be balanced to keep things relevant and worthwhile. And that will end up being the important thing, balance. Nobody wants to see hard earned raid gear end up worthless

Well, you got it across and i like it. But currently +3 crafted gear is better then rare/ex gear and with materia no one who is smart will be wearing rare/ex gear. So in order to make your idea happen SE will need to go back and retool either all crafted gear to be weaker or all R/EX gear to be stronger or even retool BOTH.

I am already tired of SE going back to retool things (even tho i agree with the ideas they did and had to do) and i think letting us add materia even if its just one or two to rare/ex gear will help keep rare/ex something we can still wera and upgrade.

well they are doing away with +1 +2 AND +3 in favor of NQ and HQ, i dont think they've mentioned if the bonus will work the same either

You bring up a good topic DNO, for anyone that doesnt know the HQ/NQ system will be changing and nobody knows the specifics of it. ATM not all stats are effected by hq/nq. On armor it is just the defensive stats that are altered. If the crafted nq gear has hp on it, the hq version still has the same hp. So you could theoretically have gear (solid scale mail) that has wonderful effects like str, but its def will be considerably lower than hq gear.

on weapons the offensive stats are altered. and when you compare a raid weapon, like the canopus guisarme to HQ weapons it is outclassed.

I wish we had some word on the changing hq/nq system

Yea true. I do not think (or know) SE will lower all HQ stats but they could. They like to tell us gimps on things the day of the update like the THM gimp. lol that was the day of the update lol.

i dont think theyll keep +3 stats if anything i think it will be +1 stats which is +5% bonus of the stats indicated. Nothing has been said on this, im just saying i think HQ's are gonna get nerfed big time

One or two slots would be fine IMO, at this point I just want to see the system implemented before we go around freaking out about the sky falling just because it looks like it might based on vague information.

dosnt seem like anyone in this thread has been complaining about anything, it is a discussion of the balance of gear.

if you dont think the game should be balanced then that is your opinion.

this thread has been pretty civil, mostly assessing the coming damage to either side. crafters dealing with the nq/hq system and all players dealing with where to go with their gear.

But to address what you're asking, "playing the game" is getting better, and helping others get better. In that regards, when asked how I would like to obtain gear. I would like to do something challenging for my own wants, and that benefits others.

Simply grinding over and over filling out a bar for materia, that could outclass dungeon gear would be boring. With dungeons you at least have difficult content that can gear multiple players, upon completing it multiple times. After that you could add 1-2 pieces of materia from gear that crafters made. In the end this helps you, your friends, and crafters.

But it all boils down to what we've been saying for a while. balance balance balance. if you can get a piece of crafted gear to 5 materia (assuming you used the highest tier materia, and had difficulty because the %chance goes down everytime,) I'd be ok with that outclassing 1-2 materia ra/ex gear. Both users obtain the gear in their own way and use gear crafted by other players, using materials from gatherers. (I dont even want to ponder nq/hq system, toooooo many variables)

Again with what syntaxiles said, as long as its not easy to overthrow raid gear. sure SE go for it. but keep options open for everyone :D because I, for one, would not enjoy simple grind.

OMG thank you. How come if people do not agree, can't they just post why? no one is complaining or going crazy.

Also its silly to have crafted gear outclass rare/ex gear by a lot because then all the content we get no one will do. Why? because we can just craft better gear or buy it. why get a LS and make friends to do raids if you can craft better gear.

There is a reason for rare/ex gear to be a least a little better.

Lets not go off topic and reply to much to these people. they don't add much ti the thread.

my other post didnt really touch on the topic of rare having one materia slot so ill add this. For rare gear allow the one slot as you said but instead of a crafter attaching it have an npc in the middle of nowhere in a little camp that offers you a quest.You do the quest and then from on out he is you rare materia bonder and he would be the only one that can bond materia to your rare gear.

I really like the idea of allowing one materia for rare/ex gear.

It also makes some sense to not permit forbidden binding of materia on those.

I think people here already have good points, so yes to more customization.

(keeping balance out of my reflection since we don't know much and this isn't a crafted gear vs raid gear thread and this place has too many loud players wanting 100% of crafted gear augmented with 100% grind materias 100% better than gear from fun and challenging content)
