I'm on the 'Back and Forth' main scenario quest. Is there any end to this horrible, long quest line? Am I close to the end of the main scenario line? Q____Q I just want it to end...
Still a ways to go. A bit more talking then a dungeon, then more talking and Shiva battle, then more talking and such before another dungeon and another battle...then more talking and another 8-man fight. Then a couple of hours of cut scenes to wrap up the current story. Easily a couple of days I think.
EDIT: you're near the beginning of the MSQ added in 2.4. So there's all of that, 2.5's content (which was a bit short), and then 2.55 (which mostly consists of a now nerfed battle and tons of cut scenes -- they literally warn you ahead of time that it's going to be nonstop cut scenes for a very long time so get settled in)
There is no real end, because every major patch or expansion adds more quests, so it's pretty much something that will continue for the lifetime of the game.
I understand that people play for different reasons and not everybody likes questing and story, but a lot of content is gated behind it, so...
I guess some day when the main scenario has bloated to an extreme amount, they might need to open up content to people without going through it at the cost of the story making less sense?
I started a month or two ago. I have no problem waiting months between patches for new content but I heard they've gated the next expac behind everything so I've been trying to finish this up already. X_X I think I would've appreciated the story line way more if it wasn't done this way.
LOL. I knew there'd be some who'd post a comment like this. Thanks for living up to my expectations. ;D
No? SE kinda does.
You see, you have to do the main scenario in it's entirety to start HW from what I've seen from *everywhere* and with a month left to go, there's going to be people that aren't there yet.
I started a few weeks ago with a friend of mine. I'll have 0 problems being caught up by then, but he's currently 24 and has 3 hours a day tops to play. Between queue times and in general slowness because he likes to absorb the story before moving on, he's likely to not have it finished by the time the expansion hits.
When no one is doing those instances anymore.
Essentially preventing him from moving on to the main scenario in HW.
Who the hell thought this was a good idea?
Yeah, I was going to say. They most certainly do. New dungeons for roulette are locked inside story quest and now HW is as well. You need to complete Steps of Faith in order to access /any/ new content aside from I think (hopefully) the new race, which while being pretty, has no actual effect on the game aside from aesthetics. I'm in the same boat as your friend Nadirah. Granted at least I have alts who are up that high but it took me months to get there because the story is padded to heck with 'I know you are the warrior of light but can you please lift this box/find this necklace/talk to me because I'm lonely and have no friends' quests. In fact the characters themselves say things like 'Oh...they have /you/ doing this' a lot which does not make it any less a crap way to drag out what would otherwise be a more engaging story.
I wouldn't stress getting story progression dungeons/trials at a later state. As with previous story requirements they will most likely add incentives for high levels to help out.
I come from a long history of online games that don't give two shits about "old" content, so excuse me for being a little skeptical of that.
I've played almost every MMO on the market. Granted, none of them was FFXI, so no experience with SE, but everyone else.... ugh.
You're over the hump I'd say, I thought 2.5 > 2.55 MSQ was actually interesting and pretty quick. enjoyed it more than snowcloak shiva. That felt like filler tbh to me. At least at 2.5 it starts actually feeling like progression towards Heavensward.
It's just the Charbydis(sp?) and steps of faith instances you have to clear.
I understand that it may be tedious to grind through 1yr plus of content in order to access the areas in the upcoming expansion. Unfortunatly for newer ppp, the game has been out a while and all this content was spread out in that time frame. As far as complaining about it, the Expansion, is just that, an expansion. Heavansward begins following the events that ended in 2.0
Being forced to do mainstory? Heavens forbid! a company forces me to do mainstory in their games i purchased to play. Sarcasm aside
Grin n bear it, its worth it. In my opinion at least.
Repie, I'd agree with you if it wasn't fully dependant on other players doing outdated content.
Those trials aren't going to pop when no one is doing them anymore.
Well from what was mentioned you will be able to run the lower level dungeons without a full 4 man party and in such case will be unsynced so should atleast reduce that wait down.
You're welcome. My answer were rethorical as your question ;DQuote:

Unless you were serious about remake the game under your Point Of View. That's another thing, which I only can say I disagree.
You're forgetting that there are 3 new jobs comming out that start at 30, I for one will be switching to Dark Knight ASAP once the expansh hits and i know quite a few other people will be switching to the new jobs as well..not only that but there are quite a few people who make alts (still don't understand why you would in ffxiv) that still need to finish the MQ.
Not to mention there are quite a few people who have bought the FFXIV + Heavensward bundle that won't get in game until the expansh actually launches (players who buy the bundle wont get the base game till heavensward launches).
So not only will there be a huge influx of tanks and healers, there are going to be quite a few people that are returning or starting the game brand new
If you can enter a dungeon without the required number of people...you won't need duty finder. Seeing as how you'll likely be 50 before he hits 30 you can enter a dungeon with him and more than likely wreck the place for him
All the quests are listed in the notes

"Back and Forth" is early on in patch 2.4

Quests specifically say "use the duty finder" so unless that changes I can't just "go in and wreck it for him", and I'm less worried about the dungeon runs and more of the trials. Already spent an hour for westwind last night(half hour, then another half hour after the group lost a tank) without getting a pop and no one in their right mind is going to bother with cutscene hell trials (castum, praetorium) while leveling, much less at 60.
Actually you can: Heavensward will allow players to enter ARR dungeons(and pretty sure trials too) without (i)lvl sync, as well as with less than required players. So you could go in with your friend and wreck face, and even get gear! The only problem would be no exp from mobs (since even if they don't disable that a part diff of 10 or higher levels stops such), and possibly exp from completing the dungeon is also disabled, but there will still be plenty of fates and the like to do.
Also you technically have to use the duty finder to get into dungeons even if you are in a pre-formed group, so no worries there.
If the party isn't full, duty finder fills the holes and syncs you.
Unless they change something, you *have* to use df to get those updates.
That's the whole point. They are changing that. And it's not so much use the duty finder. Duty finder is meant to be as an instance initator. You will have checkboxes in there that will allow you to go with less people or to search/fill/sync with people. They are even adding a checkbox for max ilvl sync on I believe all content. So even if overegaring by 80 ilvls you would be able to tick that and go at like 5 or 10 ilvls tops over.
It'd be less of a hassle to remove df req, and let me march in manually.
They are doing that. When they say 'use the duty finder' they mean that particular menu that signs you (and your group if applicable) up to enter that instance. The matchmaking element will be disabled if you choose, such that you can enter with fewer than 4 (or 8) people and also retain your current level and item level. You could use this feature to enter with a friend and completely wreck everything inside while he/she is getting through the low level dungeons etc.
