Items: Materia Adjustments

Please adjust the materia system or add a guaranteed method of acquiring specific materia.

Point: It's 450,000gil for a single Tier IV Det. materia on my server, Crit. is upwards of 350,000g and Accuracy is easily pushing 200,000g and they've been very steady at this rate.

If we're going require players to re-infuse scrolls any time they need/want to adjust stats on their Relic or Zodiac I think it would be best to ease the method of materia acquisition either through a weekly repeatable quest that rewards the player with a single Tier IV of their choice or drastically raise the rate/chance of obtaining Tier IV materia from spirit bound conversions.

Additionally there is the Elemental variety of materia that is practically unused in-game and a hold over from v.1.23 - will these be phased out or given a more in-depth use at some point?

Please god no....just no.

You don't have to buy materia if you don't want to. You can use that "unused" elemental materia and meld it onto gear and spiritbond it - to make your own materia.

Nowadays, it doesn't take too long to spiritbond gear, and you could potentially make a lot of gil in the process.

Tips:
-The more materia you have melded onto an item, the faster it spiritbonds.
-HQ items spiritbond faster than NQ.
-There are quite a lot of items in game that offer a "+spiritbond gain" stat that can help too. EX. -Meteor survivor ring.
-Also, spiritbond potions can now be purchased on the MB and are pretty cheap.

I think a better solution would be to rebalance secondary stats so that Det/Crit and to an extent Accuracy aren't the only viable stats to invest in. Drop the elemental materia that serves no purpose other than being garbage items.

Those prices are as high as they are because everyone is buying them. Take a look at Quickarm materia some time.

ilvl90 gear gives you TIV at about a 75% rate, is very cheap to make, and spiritbonds quick in the right dungeons.

ilvl70 is about as cheap with a 50%. If you go Gryphonskin you can make an entire left/right for peanuts because of desynthing tanking Hard Hippo prices. It's pretty consistent money flow, but I still think it'd be worth them balancing stats out so the demand for other stats increases to compete with Det/Crit. It's just kind of a joke at the moment for secondary stats in terms of customization.

So.. spiritbond your own and sell them at the evidently exorbitant prices you listed them at.. There's no barrier to spiritbonding other than to have a level 50 combat class, so why not be on the seller side of things and take advantage of the prices?

Btw, on Jenova, Savage Aim/Might are 600k+ sometimes over 800k when somebody decides to buy them up due to overmelding.

It's mostly a community issue. ilvl 70 and ilvl 90 (and ilvl 110 if you're nuts) offer much higher rates for tier IV materia. Unfortunately the only place in the entire game you can spiritbond at is Urth's Fount, hence the abundance of tier III and rarely tier IV.

I most solo queue instances for spirit binding and the stigma of SBing in DF is pretty dumb. People have this asinine mentality that you need to form a spirit bonding party for instances because being in ilvl gear appropriate for the instance is just wasting everyone's time....

Basically. The reason materia is so rare is because although the system was designed such that you can earn materia while doing other things, the community HATES when people do this. If you spiritbond, it has to be SOLELY for the purposes of spiritbonding. And frequently in Urth's Fount only.

There's stigma because a lot of people go into dungeons wearing full sets of SB gear that may be "ilevel appropriate" but certainly isn't optimal and sometimes isn't even helpful. Those people aren't pulling their weight.

Somehow I get the impression that stigma would persist even if you could only SB stuff your class could Need on. Heck, I've gotten shit for wearing HQ militia gear in CM. That's OVER the dungeon's level (ilvl 55 for a level 50 dungeon) and I had a 110 weapon... But apparently I'm the paragon of avarice for daring to run CM in less than full ilvl 100+ gear.

The trick is to be a class that everyone needs / desires and wear "appropriate" gear.
I SB i70 DoM jewellery (DET and CRIT is all of these), and run as either WHM or BLM all the time. I only SB the right side, this keeps my iLVL about 85ish; which keeps the jerks happy because I am strong enough to keep up regardless of the size of pull.

This is so straight up wrong I don't even know where to begin.
People flock to Urth's because "hurr level 50 non-aggro mobs". It is one of the slowest openworld SB spots especially when partied because of the inherent popularity penalty (ie, always have to be partied), uneven aoe with multiple ppl pulling / not LoSing, and lower level ked/boars/bats even if you leave the fountain to supplement.
I mean honestly, you're just kicking yourself in the foot partying, unless you're straight up lazy, and don't mind party penalty as a tradeoff for laziness.

WLN, mines @ Nthan, Ixal @Nshroud, East Shroud, hell, even the 48 plasmoids unpartied are faster than Urth's grouped.
The only community issue is the community not trying new things for itself & blindly parroting dumb shit.

Even killing sheep solo to SB is a thing, and you'd get the fleece to supplement the slower SB speed.

T4's probably the only instance worth running purely to SB (Lota/ST during the weekly carbontwine quest), because of speed/2ndary drops.

I'm a career tank. When I choose to SB I SB'd on tank. (I stopped, because it's not as profitable as it used to be (600K-900K for above materia). Soooo /thread?). I ran Extreme dungeons, in i90 gear. (Snowcloak, Satasha HM, Qaarn HM). The i90 HQ Spiritbonds in 3 runs.

FYI - this is Heavy Wolfram gear. I was running typically only left side. my FC Leader ran as BRD I think. he always did full sets. I think even weapon included.

If you are going to do this, you can't slack off. As long as you are doing decent numbers, people might complain but the won't kick you. If you are wearing garbage gear and not paing attention, then you are a hindrance to the party as a whole. There's nothing wrong with wearing crafted gear in instances for te purposes of SB, as long as you actually contribute.

The Stigma is mostly b/c people will walk in with SB gear and suck.

Also, today at lunch I walked into a Trial Roulette as a WAR in full i110. My jewellery was platinum Ruby, but I haven't melded VIT into it yet. The PLD told me to 'let him tank' because 'he had more HP'

yeah, b/c he was wearing VIT accessories. He couldn't pull threat off me if he tried, and I wasn't going to jus afk for the whole fight. besides, 8.5K is more than enough for Ramuh HM lolol.

Anyway, somebody griped at me for Spirit Bonding. I don't think I know ANYBODY converting full HQ i110 gear lol. Some people are just jerks. That being said, I'm confident that while tanking I was also probably highest DPS, or at least close. . . even with Defiance on. Despite how I used to feel about PLD having more CD's, I seemingl always have a CD for everthing even if I'm on WAR. As long as you know when to expect spike damage Inner Beast is just sikh.

Ehhh try Jenova, there's usually only 1 or 2 people there if not empty :)

But I do agree people need to branch out a little more, I SB while killing Hippogyphs in Mor Dhona for double the bonus and it's paid off quite well.

They could just solve the problem by extending ilvl cap to whatever ilvl the duty was balanced around, or drops. I've just gotten into the habit of ignoring people that whine about my gear. Honestly, i70/i90 gear is the way to go for tier IVs. 2-4 instances will SB HQ/Melded gear.

There's nothing wrong with SBing in instances if you carry your weight.
I'm saying purely from an efficiency standpoint that it's LESS EFFICIENT to run random dungeons if it's <only> for the sake of SBing.
That is, why spend 45min+ running 3x roulette dungeons, when you can spend like.. 25-35min doing 5x T4, with a higher loot potential.
Material costs will obviously vary per server so I can't generalize cost of crafting i70 vs i90 vs the ~20% difference in conversion rate.

I know there's other areas to SB, I was using it to say "When the majority of folks SB, that's where they go, and the community hates you doing so elsewhere" A little hyperbole there, which I suppose doesn't translate well over text. It can be overcrowded and slow, and more importantly SBing there means you're going there SOLELY to SB, and it also means you can't SB stuff past ilvl 55.

Both of these contribute to the considerable lack of tier IV materia. Unless you're a greedy asshole like us, you're hardly ever SBing, and for a low chance at tier IV to boot.

Regarding e verything you just said, I think it's easier to get DF Extreme's in, than a T4 Grind party. I've never queued Duty Finder while solo for T4. I guess you could do that instead of running Extreme's.

I dunno about other servers. On Shiva though, the majority of the i70 accessories still costs around 100k. i90 starts at 250k, but many go well above 300k and some even close to half a mil. That's for every single piece you'd spiritbond - which is a gamble in itself, if not much of a timesink. You either get your det/crit IV which start at ~380k right now on the MB (acc is ~90-100), or get their tier III version which ain't even worth one tenth of the IVs. Or, more likely, you get some other "junk" materia that sell for anywhere between 400-3000. If you don't think this is insane, I dunno what to tell you.
And yes, you could even go about crafting your own i70/i90 accessories. But what does that need? GSM 50 for one, and another very big deal of grinding/investment, seeing even the i70 ones are two-star pieces - hello ridiculous materia needs again. Not to mention I'm not convinced getting "legendary" weapon you fight with is justified having such "requirements" in the first place.
So yeah, I do agree that materia needs a major overhaul. Because as it is (price ranges and their "caste" system aside, outside of relic, they are pretty much useless for DoW/DoM), it's simply mind-blowingly stupid.


PS: DISABLE THE CHARACTER LIMIT ALREADY, TYVM.

Adjust secondary stats I agree. Just spirit bond lvl 90 gear or 110. I hope to god they release higher level material in expansion

You can get around it by editing your post.

I really just think they need to get rid of the fail rate for scrolls. Also able to get what you need from some npc. Buy level 4 with seals or Gil. I don't care.
It would also lower prices on market boards.
