A question About the direct X11 client and the PS4

Will there be a direct x 11 client for the PS4?

knowing the specs the PS4 is compatable with Direct X 12, so i would love a dev's response on if the Direct X 11 will be launched on ps4 with the PC version or will there be a deley between the two versions

launching it should be easy as well just update the client as you have done though the auto download function on PS4

this came up between me and a friend talking about the hard were and how games using DX11 have been currently :3 were nerds XD

I'm gonna be quite disappointed if the ps4 doesn't get any of the pretty new graphics, especially dat water. I want some good looking water in this game damn it

Now I may be wrong but I myself was told that the playstation does not run off DirectX they have something else. So seeing as SE has said nothing about a counterpart for the PS4 I would go under the assumption that PS4 will not be getting it. I could be terrible wrong though just what I heard is all. Also it is an entirely new client, I believe you will need to re-download the entire game on the DX11 PC users as well.

Again I could be wrong, just the stuff I heard combined with my "small" amount of understanding on the matter.

Essentially zero chance of PS4 getting another client. It's fixed hardware. The PS4 client is already optimized for PS4.

PC's can get a new client because the hardware is upgradable.

Turely i will say looking at the capabilities, that is coming out on ps4 as well as the amazing looking games all using DX11 and DX12, on the ps4, i would be extremely disappointed in SE if they ignored one of there biggest gaming bases, they would only be shooting themselves in a foot, by installing another form of "LOL PS3 LIMITATIONS". i hope we do get a official dev report, when they announced the DX11 they never specified the specs of the PC that should be able to run it or mentioned the PS4 (which was talked about during the stream)

Ps4 is capable of using DX11, and DX12 (which is basically a massive stability update all softwere and not physical.) the ps4 is built with it into it :3

this dosnt truly add up, yes they can get a new client due to hard were meaning computers that out work the game can get a better game but the PS4 client is a PC client with a hybrid graphics setting between Ultra and Maximum, (minus a few Normal PC settings.) and with this the software is highly adaptable and upgradeable, this being said, the game DOSE NOT, use the full Ram or power of the PS4, when tested with this game as said from SE during the ps4 tests it didn't use the full extended power of the ps4, and thus, it can be upgraded software to utilise it,

the ps4 in comparison's sake, is extremely similar specs to a computer they are designing DX11's client for,

the main issue with the game comes in the game's engine, where it struggles greatly within its 'optamized' versions the ps4 being a PC version (and not a ps3 version upgraded) tends to only stagger during 1 moment of the game, a mass of characters in corethas (which causes extreme lag and graphical glitches on pc)

Saying the game couldn't be able to be run on PS4 with DX11, due to IT's hardware would mean there is no true point in making a DX11, seeing how a very small number of people (those with extreme gaming rigs) would only be able to use it, and it would be a waste of money. this is where the question comes into play of if the PS4 dosnt get a DX11, (which it can handle) will the PS4 gain a update to gain a hybrid like it did with the PC's graphical settings.

oh and before anyone says something along the lines of "it is already there they cannot change the launcher" the launcher updates itself though a miniature download though SE, then downloads a mini file on the PS4 to allow the launcher change, this means the launcher can be changed freely, by SE and not stopped by SONY.

the specs are there, and the software there, but one thing we are lacking is info from SE D:

I wouldn't bet on it coming to PS4 to be honest.

PS4 uses DX11. In fact, Sony improved on the DX11 used for PS4 and it has features even the PC versions do not have.

Those improvements include better shader pipeline access, improved debugging support features out the box, and much lower level access to the system hardware enabling developers to do more cool things. Thats achieved not only through an modified DirectX 11.1 API, but also a secondary low-level API specifically for the PS4 hardware.

please explain why?, this is why i want a dev response in the big post i did above, i have listed the combatablity but due to the increadable secrecy they hold over everything most only presume strongly, (which has been proven wrong strongly as well) i really wish for a dev response, because all the vague and no information they feed us the more questions arise D: and thats not a good model when it comes to a launcher like this, which can affect a lot of there customers D:

FFXIV is already optimized for PS4 it doesn't use directx.

The PS4 could operate the new eye-candy that the DX11 PC client will have, but the question is if the devs want to budget rendering resources for it since it'll be a performance hit anywhere it's used, as the game on PS4 already has trouble maintaining a consistent frame rate.

Yeah, the hardware supports DX11 feature set, also custom extended by Sony. That does not mean it uses DirectX per se; it would need to run Windows for that, since DX is exclusive to Windows.

So, the possibility to implement the features of the DX11 PC client in the PS4 version is there, but it would indeed need yet another new version (or a major upgrade of the current one, anyway) of the client...

PS3 version is optimized to PS3
PS4 version is using the PC DirectX9 version with enough optimization space upward. Whether with DirectX11 or something else, the PS4 version is still upgradeable

Some of the features that they showed off in the DX11 client also contained tessellation, the water and cobbles pretty much is tessellation, this is not a ram or cpu intensiveness feature, it is raw GPU grunt, the gpu in the PS4 isn't that powerful and tessellation is highly demanding.

Just bare in mind, that the current graphics settings on the PS4 still causes it to drop below 60 FPS as seen here.

Some settings in the environment have defo been cranked down as well for the PS4 version.

With the added shadow effects and lighting, the cpu might not cope with the extra set or to the version we saw in the preview.

Just dont get your hopes up, at least enjoy the added performance which is more important in a game like this.

actually yeah it does. the PS4 libraries include OpenGL, DirectX and Sony's own libraries for the PS4 specifically. FFXIV is using a subset of the DX9 emulation DX11 offers in the libraries on the PS4 and they did hint about the PS4 getting a DX11 client.

I dont recall anyone saying anything about Direct3D specifically, DirectX libraries do function without Direct3D as long as they do have something to call into.

as for whether sony is tied to anything from microsoft. it is very likely sony and microsoft struck some sort of deal for this to happen. infact some of the parts in the xbox one may very well be sony parts. we don't know.
you should note that sometimes larger companies make deals for something popular that will help them.
take a look at AMD and Intel, x86-64 is the 64 bit arcitecture that won out and it was not Intel who made it but Intel uses it. and now Intel and AMD share their subsets with eachother.
so given that knowledge it is entirely possible Microsoft and Sony struck a deal and that will help both companies. or maybe Microsoft is using something that is property of Sony and rather than being sued made Sony an offer. big corporations will always accept a good deal over a lengthy battle in the court room

DX11 on PC do we have to redownload the game?

edit: Also ps4 doesnt use direct x. It uses opengl. They said 11.2 and opengl 4.4 feature set are the same thing.

we will have to redownload yes. they suggested testing with the benchmark first to see how your system does with it and deciding if you get a performance boost or not along with the pretty graphics improvements. some DX11 capable systems will not fair well while others will shine.
