I'm confused by this.
I'm confused by this.
What's the point in changing it? :p
Yeah, at the moment, all it seems to do is to bind gear to you. Except... the majority of such gear is untradeable anyway. So it makes no difference in the end.
I'd like to see some adjustment to this, actually. Make fully spiritbonded gear contribute something, something more than non-spiritbonded gear.
Maybe this is how they could implement those often (or at least sometimes) asked for "bonus to skill" stats to provide variety? Once you get to 100% spiritbond, the gear acquires its skill/spell/trait bonus.
Doesn't need to be a huge one, just a small tweak that can make things more interesting. Tank gear with "Flash generates X% more aggro" or something, or healer gear with "+X% MP regeneration" or "Shortens raise/resurrect cast time by X%" (in addition to spell speed effect).
The actual percentage would depend on equipment ilvl, I'd assume, starting off at 1% or something -- or it'd be a flat percentage somewhere between 1-5% since percentages tend to scale with your other stats anyway.
it's something that applies to all gear so that, on the off chance they decide to make it convertible at some point, all they have to do is change a few values, and you won't have to work at SBing it.
I see no reason it's not all convertible.
3.0 please look forward to it. Maybe we can convert all our spiritbind stuff to materia finally.
I know a lot of the non convertible gear cant be desynth either, like circus loot, dark light ?, etc... It'd be nice if spirit bond gear that cant be converted or desynth could be used for something else like a +1% (off the weapon) rate increase for Atma or Alex. How about a increase to durability. Increase the success for melding materia or forbidden melds. Or give us the option to trade it to that goblin and have him use it for materia or a point system to trade for materia from him.
You can desynth all darklight and Syrcus Tower gear.
This is something i always thought would improve gear. Not only would adding some kind of SB bonus, it might keep the materia market less flooded as people might not convert as readily if they knew that newly SBed item is giving them an added stat bonus of some kind.
It's done because it's easier to have a single system that applies to all gear and a flag that says to hide the Convert option or not than it is to design and maintain a separate system for certain gear only, especially in something like an MMO which is always going to be changing a lot in the code underneath. It's a good way to save development time and costs (something any business will look to achieve).
The problem with that is that a) spriitbonding isn't hard, and b) this would great another layer of requirements on players. Don't have a full set of Spiritbonded i130 because of all the bonuses? No static for you. It also means that content has to be designed with this bonus system in mind. It's like how having gear with specific ability bonuses can add layers of requirements for players when doing certain content. Don't have the upgraded Shield Bash item? This content isn't for you, then. It's typically a more complex problem than described, but the gist is there.
hell, why not just make the bonus purely cosmetic?
like it starts to glow or something or has little particles or something relevant to the item?
or even the option to dye it
Because in a future they just take out the "not" and you get free materia or desynthesis items and dont have to start spiritbonding at that point.
This I would love. Unfortuntately, I don't see much chance of that, since they have previously released higher-tiered gear with the same appearance* but dyeable (i90 crafted, maybe pvp?), and because it would invalidate one aspect of the unweathered/augmented soldiery/poetics gear (not the most important, but one of them).
*) Except more restricted and with some details changed. Dammit, I don't want my battlemage robe sash to be turquoise D: I want it red! And I want to use the dyed infantry boots on my tank!
I would love to see something like this. I was going to make a topic about this sort of thing somewhere but decided against doing so. I'm tired of this same basic stat increase BiS (one letter more than BS) on every single piece of gear in the game. It's too bland, generic, and boring IMO. I get it. Bigger stats, better performance. But can we start getting some enhancements to our abilities/traits etc? I just wish gear was more than just primary stats+ and secondary stats+.
Doesn't spirit bonded gear take longer to break? Could've sworn SB meant less durability loss :P
I would like to see the dungeon gear have like a pool of super materia they could turn into. All with skill specific bonus', then those can be placed on crafter made items only.
Don't know if this system was productive at some point.
During Beta of ARR I've read something about, that the gear had to get bound to fully benefit from its stats. Actually this is not part of the game.
Never heard this one before o.o But if that's true, then that's at least something =D (Not that it matters much to me these days, now that I have all crafters to 40+ and don't need to rely on menders anymore XD But a gil saved is a gil gained :3 )
This would also be an intersting system, but would require that they make said gear convertible. Though... While that would mean that lower-level dungeons would get more players going back to them for more of that gear to SB and convert, it would also mean that less of the gear would end up in the hands of the actually levelling people, who are the ones who'd benefit the most from them ^^;
In before someone posts complaing they converted their Dreadwyrm gear by accident and complaing it shouldnt be convertable :P
LotA, ST and HA gear should be flagged as convertible tho now.
i think the spiritbonding systeme is not right... the idea for the V1 was very nice, but now with the pace of content we have the spiritbonding (especially with the limited utility of the materia) need to be changed. i get it's used for create a flow of content crafted and selled, but soo far it's too limited as impact.
i seriously don't know how change the systeme (since i haven't really think about it) but i feel it need a revamp massive, same for the materia system (with about half of the materia useless so far)
By chance is it even possible to Forbidden meld blue or green gear that has no materia slots? If that's the case then they should at least make the spirit bond on non convertible pieces increase the success rate of forbidden melds, if it can be done at all.
Still doesn't help if you're a level 16 archer trying to get that foestriker's tabard, and there's an i120 monk who wants it for materia... ^^ Currently, the seals offered by the gear in those dungeons isn't usually enough to entice higher-leveled people to roll either need or greed on them.
(Then again, I've been in runs where it's been me and three low-leveled people and things have been lost because they're all "oh, but I have the NQ gear given to me in the lvl15 quest, so I don't need that pink/green gear" without even looking at the stats T_T
(Or in Brayflox, where tanks pass on pink scalemail cos they automatically assume it's lancer/dragoon gear without even looking at the mdef of it -_- AND they're currently in DoW gear or lvl20-25 plate.)
Gives more reason to do the low level dungeons in the first place.
Maybe they are keeping it for when they'll do higher level materia
