Please make the ability to get Mastercraft Demimateria equal for all classes

Currently all the Artisan Tools that you can trade-in for, that have the chance for 3 Mastercraft Demimateria are only desynthable by Blacksmith, Armorer and Goldsmith. Requiring 8-20 HQ crafted Items.

The Artisan Spectables who have the chance for 1 Mastercraft Demimateria are desynthable by Goldsmith. Now require 4 HQ crafted items.


So what does a Blacksmith, Armorer and Goldsmith have to do to get those Mastercraft Demimateria?

All of those items to get the Artisan Tools are craftable rather quickly, the mats are affordable and with todays crafting gear and knowledge you can get them HQ'd rather easily and quickly. Not even food required if you have HQ items (for Silver Brocade that would be 2 HQ Twinthreads and 1 HQ Silver Ingot).


Let's see what a Weaver desynther has to do.

The Forager's Hat. It has a chance for 1 Mastercraft Demimateria only and is desynthable by Weaver, yay!! BUT, now you have to go gather 30 HQ 1-star items or 10 HQ 1-star fish, whaa?
The cap for HQ chance is 35% on umbral rocks/fragrant logs (correct me if I'm wrong here), nodes pop every 69 minutes...
You can try to either go for 3 pieces per hit with 5% HQ chance or you go for the 35% HQ chance but only 1 piece per hit.
You should of course also use your Deep Vigor/Brunt Force to get the 100% HQ chance on your last item (if you haven't failed a single slash AND used Ageless Words/Solid Reason).
I remember if you got 3 HQ on one node spawn you'd go "AWW YISS!!".
So realistically speaking you need to be able to run to the nodes at the right time for 8 hours straight AND get pretty lucky and you can do this within 8 hours (the actual reality is, you'll most likely need more time).

We don't even really need to talk about the fishing option unless you're RNG-Jesus himself.

All this just to be able to get a chance for 1 Mastercraft Demimateria in one desynth. For another chance you have to go through the above again.


Now let's see what Carpenter, Leatherworker and Alchemist have to do.

Oh wait! They can't do anything, there is nothing for them to desynth that even gives the chance for a Mastercraft Demimateria. Bummer!


I was ok with this when desynthis and Mastercraft Demimateria first came out, I was sure this would be "evened out" as more things get added. 2.4 came and nothing changed. Now 2.5 arrived and I got happy because new trade-in Artisan Gear that would match Weaver, Leatherworker and Carpenters appeared, but those can not be desynthed... WHY??

Please make those new Artisan Gears desynthable as well to at least give the chance to go for 1 Mastercraft Demimateria... it would still not be "fair" but it's at least something.
Better jet change the desynth classes for the Artisan Tools so that each class has one tool they can desynth... if a Weaver can craft a Carbuncle Table why not a Artisan Needle as well?

I don't think you understand how economies work. If everyone was homogeneous then it wouldn't work. It's the disparity between individuals that fuels purchases and moves money around. You're solution would literally harm the game economy.

Should each class be given something useful that can be obtained via desynthing? Yes. They can make money selling their desynth results to buy desynth results from classes they don't have. That's what we lack right now. Genuinly useful results from each desynth category. The fix listed is a band-aid that fails to take game balance into account. The better solution is to have results for other classes that have real demand.

You're close on cap but its actually 37% for HQ as well.

I agree to an extent w/ your OP. I have WVR and LTW 100+ and even tho Mastercraft is hard to come by, WVR and LTW reign supreme in FC3. I sell those and buy the Mastercraft I need while harvesintg and mining for Foragers hat.


There is also the possibility that the new artisan armor that is LTW and WVR will be able to desynthed in a future patch. One can hope anyway.

There is really no "special" item that ONLY Carpenter, Weaver and Leatherworker can get. All Weaver and Leatherworker have is a small advantage in getting some stuff (like Allagan Silk and Leather, though those are also drops, so everybody can get them).

Carpenter got the low-end all through desynthesis.

If everyone had the ability the desynth into Mastercraft demis, then likely the market would be full of them, or at least a lot more than have now. The prices would crash, etc.

Now, that's not going to destroy the market, by any means, but it would make those current desynth classes less attractive.

Don't give me wrong, my Alchemy desynth at 83.5 is my highest, so your suggestion would help me, but being able to level multiple desynth classes, it isn't hard to pick one that is able to mastercraft, another for something else, and a third for funsies, etc.

This is actually good for the economy. The Items obtained from NPC is taking gil directly out of the system instead of shuffling it from player to player.

This is a valid argument for the OP point of view. I concur. We need this tug-o-war to keep the markets flowing. Balance them out and the markets will stagnate once again. Why do you think the newest relics required items crafted from 8 different classes desynth to make? So one person with their 3 maxed out desynths could not make the other 5. They want us buying off each other.

Yeah, cause the easy FC3's aren't enough for WVR.

For starters, Silver Sovereign is a 2-Star fish and generally considered the LEAST optimal way to get a Forager's Hat (and thus Mastercraft Demimateria). CRP has an option in the Forager's Rod but it needs 20 HQ Silver Sovereign which is completely unfeasible to deem it a reliable source (I got a Field3 from mine btw). There's a thread on this over in the Item&Synth section (or maybe it was the DoH?) with a far more indepth detailing on how unbalanced the gains for MDM is between the various classes.

As for people saying it's balanced by how say Field3 is easier to obtain for some (mainly LTW and WVR). In terms of cost the bridesmaid/bridesgroom are not very cost efficient for Field3 compared to what they sell for on market board. GSM also has really easy access to these in the glasses that can be made from very cheap and easily accessible materials (especially if you bother killing some imperials yourself for them). Fieldcraft and Mastercraft materias are NOT balanced at all among all the classes in availability or ease of gaining and people who say they are, are outright ignorant.

The prices are much higher than any other item that comes from desynthesis. Because unlike all other items GSM/BSM have the monopole on them and they are actually needed for progressing in crafting/gathering unlike the primal demimaterias for example, which are basically for glamour.
And yes you're right if all would be able to make them BSM/GSM would be as (un)attractive as the rest ;)

I get your point, but your example can't be compared IMO. The Mastercraft Demimateria are only needed by endgame crafters and gatherers, they are needed by ALL of them. So your example of balance and buying from each other would need another type of Mastercraft Demimateria to be acquirable by desynthers other than BSM/GSM, so that for example BSM/GSM and whatever else would need THAT item for THEIR endgame crafting gear and would buy it from WVR/LTW/CRP or whatever... and WVR/LTW/CRP need the help of BSM/GSM for their respective gears. That would be balance. But that's not how it is.

In regards to this, we have a general policy that you won’t be able to desynth untradeable/unique items right after their release, and this is how we have operated gear throughout our patches.

This also applies to the artisan gear that was added in Patch 2.5. We don’t have a specific date on when we might allow the artisan gear to be desynthable, but we will consider it in the future.

Yes and that's the point. Everyone needs them but only a few can create them. So when people pick their three desynthers they take into account what each is capable of making. By having items you personally can't obtain you are forced to get it from other players. That is an action that quite literally drives the economy. That forced human interaction for goods. If every class can get everything not only would that market crash from over saturation, but trading between players would nearly disappear. Thus hurting the economy.

This is economy 101 type stuff here. Not rocket science. There is nothing wrong with each class having unique desynths that the others need. The problem is that the money making power of each desynth class is not created equal so it is difficult to desynth your unique items, sell them for profit, and then obtaining demi materia with your newfound cash. That is the problem. Not the demand for demimateria.

When everyone can supply themselves there is no demand. Economies only exist due to supply and demand.

I don't disagree with you, but not "everybody" needs them. Since this is only something concerning endgame crafter/gatherers I just don't think it would hurt the overall economy. Of course the better way would be to find a balance in some other way, but a balance is still needed. Because right now BSM/GSM desynthers can do just that: "supply themselves" without taking part in the circle of supply and demand.

In think you underestimate how much of the economy is directly driven by crafting. It's far more intertwined into everything. If getting these upgrades became easier we'd have more top level crafters which would then over saturate other markets with the glut of new supply coming in from the new high level crafters. It's all connected. These things can be considered barriers to entry in much the same way iLvl is for battle. Once you've obtained them you can suddenly break into a new tier of goods. Both through improved HQ odds on stuff you can already make, and through access to new recipes. It's not just related to demimateria.

I agree this is a problem. We just need a more targeted solution than give everyone all the things. Make more groups useful and intertwine the demands between the different classes better. They definitely have room for improvement when it comes to demimateria. The last relic step using all that desynthing was a good step but we need more.

Any chance we could get gear like Weaver's Swallowtail Supra or Artisan/Master Weaver's Swallowtail.

And would much prefer crafting gear for each crafting class especially since glamours are based on each gear piece NOT job/class.

It's not meant for desynthing right now. It's catch-up gear. It's aimed more at those that have a single class leveled up and geared to the point where they can get them, but perhaps can't afford the artisan gear on the market board.

As far as crafting gear for each class... no, please. I don't want to go back to having to meld a completely separate set for each class. It's expensive and it makes me want to spoon my eyeballs out dealing with all that RNG just to allow me to start crafting. The crafting itself has more than enough RNG for me, thanks.

Thank you for letting us know that the new Artisan gear will be desynthable in the future. I humbly beg for them to be desynthable sooner rather than later, as this would alleviate a serious discrepancy in the usefulness of various desynth classes.

Also, the new items obtainable for the new 2.5 dungeons, which are both unique and untradeable, are desynthable. Why make an exception for dungeon loot which makes it hard for people to obtain for glamour purposes, but not make an exception for turn-in gear that you don't have to roll against other players for? While I can understand the policy you are citing, I do not understand the inconsistent application of it.

Except it wouldn't. You would see, at best, a small increase in supply and a small decrease in demand. Mastercraft demimateria isn't going to crash overnight because half the desynth categories suddenly got good access to it.

Let's remember that all crafters, in terms of raw crafting class level, are encouraged, heavily, to diversify - if you don't have every craft at 50, you're missing vital abilities for crafting. So you're a serious crafter (likely the only kind thinking about desynth), you have every craft at 50, you're choosing a category or two to max desynth in - you do some basic google or forums research and what do you find out? There's 4 "good" desynth categories and 4 worthless ones. So, the vast majority of maxed crafters with maxed desynth are already filling as much mastercraft demimateria supply as possible.

This doesn't account for a lot of other factors, like players who refuse do to their own middle-labor to produce a lot of types of materials to relieve themselves of the tedium of crafting, the fact that scarcity for demimateria is already enforced by the barriers for entry to be a high-end crafter, etc.

So what does giving every desynth category this easy access to mastercraft demis do? Not a hell of a lot, actually. A few people get added to suppliers and a few people get removed from being demanders. The market for ostentatious luxury crafting goods chugs on, just slightly cheaper than before. And FFXIV's high-end crafted goods market tends toward being hellishly unhealthy to begin with, because of the high barriers of entry to make a lot of the top end stuff and the absurd risk of attempting to craft top-tier equipment resulting in a basically dead supply-side.

You may want to do some research and plan ahead before blindly making a post on something you don't understand.

The flaw in your reason being that the nature of the Demimateria 'game' changes every patch. LTW was nearly useless as a desynth - until suddenly we hit the patch where it became the best for Fieldcraft III due to an introduced item. BSM 'could' get Mastercraft, but the massive investment made it extremely hard to recommend as useful... until the nerfs to the number of tokens needed to get Artisan's tools hit and it became the best; prior to that, GSM ruled.

"Plan ahead" all you want, because the solution changes unpredictably every patch.

That's the nature of the game though. At no point is every desynthesis class going to be equivalent, because it's very hard for them all to be equivalent. And that's probably a good thing - otherwise a lot of them would not be touched because people will always figure out 'the best' in an MMORPG. What I think does need to happen is for a greater variety of 'end product' results to be existant and desireable, beyond just FC3/BC3/Mastercraft. That way there's ideally going to be more than just 1-2 'best' desynth classes at every patch.

While I agree that not every crafting (desynth) class needs to be able to make all of the useful things, we're currently operating in a market with about 3 useful things to go around: Mastercraft demimateria, fieldcraft demimateria III, and battlecraft demimateria III. The access to said materials isn't very even and GSM can pretty easily make all of them. It made a bit more sense when primal demimaterias were more relevant (if they can even be said to have been relevant) since the spread on those seems to have been more thought out.

I hesitate to say we need more necessary items from desynth because it's not really a part of the market I enjoy, but the current state of things is very off balance.

For those not following the way the patches have changed the desynth classes:

• GSM: Good for MCDs, good for Primal demis, good for FC3s, good for BC3s, good/best for dungeon drops, best for FC2s, good for BC3s from PvP
• LTW: Can't get MCDs, best for FC3s, good for dungeon drops, transforms shoes into infinite gil (seriously, I've hit 50m profit from this so far, and it just became super valuable again)
• WVR: Bad for MCDs, best for FC3s, good for dungeon drops, currently can transform underwear into infinite gil (a new thing; GSM MCD generation now eats up massive amounts of twinthread once people realized needles are twice as good as specs, and Vanya Silk is always valuable, making Bridesmaid's pants just as good as Bridesmaid's shoes for the moment)
• BSM: Best for MCDs, good for Primal demis (market mostly non-existent now), okay for FC3s
• ARM: Good for MCDs, good for dungeon drops, best for BC3s from PvP, best for Allagan Catalyst (but market non-existent), best for Allagan Wootz Ore
• CUL: Can't get MCDs, best for swimwear, worst for FC3s, most interesting CUL item has not yet been datamined extensively (it's r110 and only available from Talan trade-ins - I'm hoping it gives MCDs, but I doubt it)
• ALC: Can't get MCDs, okay for FC3s, best for BC2s, best for Crags demis, but just generally a terrible desynth class
• CRP: Abysmal for MCDs, good for... uhh... I got nothing.

Demand:

• MCDs: Remains steady
• FC2s: Minimal market demand
• FC3s: Remains steady
• BC2s: Minimal market demand
• BC3s: Sharp increase in 2.5
• Primal Demis: Steady decrease over time
• Allagan Mats: Decrease from 2.4, except Allagan Wootz Ore, which has sharply increased in 2.5
• Swimwear: Decrease from 2.3
• Allagan Catalyst: No market demand

So, basically, GSM is the best or second best at everything ever. LTW is the best at making money, with WVR close behind. BSM is the best at getting MCDs. ARM is alright, but not amazing. CRP and ALC are terrible. CUL is niche (still waiting to see what comes out of r110 pies though!).

But, like others have said, this changes every patch. Before, it was clearly GSM as the best, BSM as the second best, then everything else, and that was for getting everything. LTW was the worst. I'd now argue that LTW is the best. I'm waiting for ALC or CRP to become the best with Gold Saucer in 2.51.

On a slightly off topic note, I would like to see gear from the newest dungeons be untradeable for Grand Company seals while they are "expert" level dungeons (Like WoD is now and ST and CT before them). Don't get me wrong, the shift to both gear and crafting mats is making set collection MUCH easier (THANK YOU!), but having people Need and Greed gear that they don't even want just for the seals can make it a bit harder, especially if you like to go on a certain job because it is your best geared.

As far as crafting gear for each class... no, please. I don't want to go back to having to meld a completely separate set for each class. It's expensive and it makes me want to spoon my eyeballs out dealing with all that RNG just to allow me to start crafting. The crafting itself has more than enough RNG for me, thanks.

Then, how about, please don't go back to having us keep a different set of gear for each crafter class because there's only so much armory chest space? I really appreciate having space again so I can stock up on more shoes at a time for desynthing while in dungeons/pvp.

I 100% agree with what Tiggy has to say. While it's true that this particular market doesn't affect the general populous, that doesn't mean the market should have more to be sold. The flow of the market always instantly adjusts to the demand. The reason why mastercraft is as expensive as it is right now is because the demand has driven the cost up. With more inventory circulating around, prices will guarantee to bomb since the demand hasn't gone up at the same rate as the inventory. That's also not factoring in that a lot of players don't treat gil in this game like real money and feel that it's okay to be undercutting at completely unreasonable and unsustainable rates just to get a single instant sale. What's being asked for isn't balance, but completely destroying a market. Only once the demand has either gone significantly up or down, then can they make changes to the amount of inventory circulating.

Right, wanting to stick with the current setup instead of going back to separate gear for each class means crafting is not for me. Never mind that all of my crafters were maxed or close to maxed before we got the artisan gear. Never mind that I already had gone through the process of melding everything. Now that we have a universal set of gear, why on god's green earth would anyone want to go back to having to meld a set of gear for each class? I'd rather not do that again, thanks. Not to mention the armory chest space that we now actually have.
