So how is EX Titan now?

I've kinda wanted to return to the extreme primals but I remember doing Titan Extreme for weeks in DF just dying because new players landslided right off the platform.

The fight itself is kinda... really fun though so I was wondering if the situation is any better now since:

a) on average the ilvls are higher

b) maybe, just maybe there are more experienced players now.

Is anyone doing this or is going back to original trials just for kicks a fool's errand?

I'm going to derail myself a bit here:

When going through the fight I couldn't help thinking "This would be SO much fun solo!"
It's never going to happen but think about going into this with your chocobo. Awesomeness. (If the bird didn't fly off in first 3 seconds!)

I have beaten it once in DF, in probably 100 tries
so I would saaay that there's a 1% chance you will beat it with dutyfinder
Kill groups will take you til adds and then the leader will say "wow this group is great" but you never really get further

Farmgroups for titan ex are the most reliable ones! But in every farm group I join I always see the same people

Soo my conclusion is that, There are 8 players on my server who have beaten titan ex!


And to be serious, no the fight is still hard for a lot of people, due to slow reactions or lag

What a bummer. I was kinda hoping to get back to it.
Btw I only cleared this once through PF after dozens of DF wipes.
I wish there was an achievement for "Dodge 100 land slides" so I could set that as a requirement of entry in the PF.

It's still not super great on DF, but if you queue as DPS and are good enough, you can help the team skip or clear certain moves, making the raid more likely to survive.

Bombs can be skipped over during heart phase quite easily, gaolers can die super fast with even just one good DPS nowadays...etc.

The reality is that the most deadly parts of the fight are still really, really deadly. While I'm now at the point where, as a Warrior when off-tanking, I can eat every single plume stack through raw HP... that's me with a tank's HP. That's not a realistic option. For players who can't handle plumes, you're still doing to die. If tanks can't successfully manage the chaos around when Gaolers appear, people are going to die. If people are mispositioning during Upheavel, people are still going to die. If too many people die, you'll lose.

The good news is that keeping up with the healing and tank survival checks is now really easy (to the point where I've seen several solo tank groups), and all this extra iLvl/echo means that DPS checks shouldn't be a problem. In fact, good DPS should see the fight speeding along and lots of dangerous attacks being skipped - I've been with a group that cleared the final phase before even reaching Superbombs now. But the fight still relies on a number of people being able to actually do the fight and survive, and that's always been the kicker of Titan EX.

Bombs can be eaten, gaols and gaolers die fast, people get landslided and stomped off the place all the time. Titan EX still sucks.

Took me 5 weeks pf puggin back in march 2014 (as a friends had the garuda curse - get 7 ppl with each 100+ kills and still cant do it as STUFF happens >.>)
And for my first kills u sticked with same people like 3 hours and even now.... if i join kill group (I wouldnt join farm) to help someone out/am bored I calculate it takes the full time as Titan ex is a laggy b*tch and you fast die to "WTH happened?"
And DF... oh well there are DF kills but as far as I heard like we meet 5 capable ppl and kick the 2 others n hope for better... as long as theres no option in votekick "is horribly bad" cannot support this tho

The fight can be solo tanked now...provided your party have enough dps to only go through one cycle of the last phase (which I doubt can be easily achieved even with max echo in df). Otherwise you just take too many stacks from mountain buster.

This is the one fight I avoid because the most challenging mechanic to me is my connection/lag. On balmung I mostly see farm groups and on some occasions clear groups. Maybe now with the pony incentive more people will be going back to it.

5. Joins Titan EX on PF with the achievement set as requirement.

On JP datacentre every DF Titan EX is one-shot. I don't understand why NA datacentres are so bad with this in DF, even with crummy DPS everyone has enough gear to defeat him.

For the most part, those playing in Japan have excellent ping, simply due to the consequences of a vastly smaller geographic area to cover - and ask most players and the hardest part of Titan EX is all in reaction times. There's also some extreme differences between NA and JP in terms of the use of the Duty Finder - in Japan, the common expectation is that you're there already with plenty experience, skill, and have likely cleared before. In NA, Duty Finder is a crapshoot between all levels of experience.

And it was honestly never about the gear; it's about the things that can kill you, which by and large haven't changed.

I think most of the eu servers are lagging a lot. I have around 130 ping on eu servers with WTfast, which is really bad considering my ping is 29 in other games. Now I have killed titan so many times I can do it in my sleep, but those who can't and are lagging at the same time are really getting screwed over.

My sister has 250 ping with WTfast on eu server and we live in europe.

Those servers located in europe can't come fast enough

This. The hard part about Titan EX isn't the incoming damage or the (now nonexistent) DPS check. It's the tiny arena and the amount of crap that can remove players from the fight entirely. Half a second of lag and you eat landslide. A slight misstep with positioning will get you knocked straight sideways by stomp.

Higher ilevels might help healers ease up on their job just a tiny bit - better stats, more HP, more damage can be eaten. Higher ilevels might help DPS put out more damage and thus quicken the fight the bit - better stats, things die faster.

Higher ilevels do not and will not ever help the stacks (no pun intended) of instant-KO mechanics that are crammed into this one fight that can't always be effectively dodged - either because of the connection itself (see lag/latency on NA datacenters - not even gonna say EU because that does not exist, geographically, as of now) or because players are simply overwhelmed with how many different things are going on at once on the screen.

Not sure how many months later I still could could not beat it (and not for a lack of trying), and I still hate it with all my heart.

People forget that SE added lag as a Titan EX Mechanic lol.

Its like a RNG debuff for the fight.

I am in Australia and I can not get hit by any of Titans' abilities. I am not in Japan.

It's funny how people still pretend reaction is an important thing for Titan ex. The fight is 100% scripted, the rotation and timing for every move Titan does is always the same. The only random thing is who gets gaoled, and seriosly, that doesn't really matter.

The one thing that Titan ex requires that no other fight before him does is: execution! One thing alot of players just don't have. Since everything is 100% predictable you don't need the best ping or latency at all.

I give you an example: I live in the EU and play on the EU datacenter (chaos). I'm on PS4, so I don't have access to wtfast and naturally cannot just tone down my graphics to improve my fps on console, so I have to deal with a good amount of latency issues in that fight by default. What's my point now? My point is that I'm selling clear runs on my server. These are all one shots with only 3 dps and barely anyone ever getting hit, like it should be. Now this isn't with a group of players that always plays together, it's basically 2 or 3 big linkshells for selling runs and whenever some guy want's to buy a run, someone just asks in the LS who wants to participate and get free money, first come first serve. ^^ New composition every time. The point is that all these people mastered the fight and are able to 'execute' it perfectly even while almost sleeping. Titan ex is all about memorizing the pattern and executing it properly. That's it.

tl;dr: step it up and learn the fight, and ffs STOP BLAMING THE LAG! There are TONS of guys with terribad pc's and even ps3 players with overseas server connection that one shot Titan ex all day for pony farm. Stop excusing, learn your shit! ;)

Hmmm PF then DF then PF and clear... think overall 4 sessions in total. Titan is kinda sleep through unless you have lag though.

I remember my 2nd clear in total firsttime tanking... i was soooo beyond my sleeptime eyes were already half shut and even if we talked at start about it that other tank would take adds I ended up tanking them. JP uses DF for clears (aka you'll mainly find experienced players when DFing anything), NA/EU uses DF for practice. That's why JP always one shots things in DF that NA/EU can't.

It is ridiculous to say that the predictability of the fight should make you immune to death by lag. Lag means that your machine is slow in communicating with the server. To prevent abuse, if there's ever an argument between where the server thinks you are and where your machine says you are, the server trumps.

You could have the timing and skills to beat Titan blindfolded and with one hand tied behind your back, but if lag hits just before Titan uses Landslide, and you're the target, it won't matter one bit whether you move to safety or not. The server thinks you took the hit, so off the edge you go!

Lag is an actual problem, not just an excuse used by scrubs. Lag is unpredictable; it comes and goes, sometimes a given person's connection can be good, and at other times bad. It's not a constant slowdown, it's patches of poor responsiveness. There is no way to guess ahead of time when you're going to hit a lag spike and move to a safe spot to compensate.

My connection is, in general, good, but there have been times when I've been laggy. In the worst cases, I've had moments when all action on the screen stops for fifteen seconds or more. During that time, the server thinks my character is standing stock still for fifteen seconds. If that were to happen on Titan Ex, that's pretty much a guaranteed ticket off the edge, and it doesn't matter HOW much I have the fight down pat.

The only difficult mechanic i had trouble with in titan ex was when everything stopped moving for a good 10 secs, then bam everyone is sonic the hedgehog.
I find myself slingshotted off the arena or dead cuz of the plume nuke i saw on my screen.
Pretty sneaky if you ask me lol
Someday i'll learn that mechanic.

I didn't say it makes you immune, but it makes you able to deal with it alot better. But do you seriously want to tell me the lag in Titan ex is bad enough to make people unable to beat the fight altogether? Hell no! ^^ Of course there are certain instances where big lag spikes are so bad, they make your character register your button press seconds later and of course that can wipe you in Titan ex, but that can happen in alot of other fights too.

The point is not that people are saying that Titan ex is laggy, i even admitted that myself. The point is that people are pretending it makes them unable to beat the fight at all, which is hands down just straight up ridiculous! People use this to make themselves feel better with their unability to beat the fight, and the fact how many other ppl are jumping on that train makes it even easier.

That was your first mistake. Expecting to make progress in a fight that tough exclusively with pugs you meet randomly. It's always been doable if you form your own party or grab skilled friends.

Cleared after 2 months as a SMN in Duty Finder. But that was because I refused to spend a dime on a carry.

Crazy part was it was SO easy when I did clear it, first run, almost no mistakes. Almost left a bad taste in my mouth after all the times I failed before.

I've beaten it once recently as DPS, but it was after 2nd wipe w/ that team. I want to give it a go w/ WHM or PLD but I don't know the sequence of events well enough to risk getting flamed by everyone in the party for failing to pop a specific cd at the appropriate time.

Ultimately I'm just upset SE would not make echo bonus more publisized, gradiated and substantial so "learning parties" actually had a chance to learn before time ran out, or people start to ragequit.

Depending on how bad the connection is, some players can reliably expect at least one significant lag spike every time they challenge Titan, perhaps several. The difference between Titan and other fights is, if you DO get a significant lag spike, a lot of the time you're not just dead, you're out of the fight entirely. Leviathan and lolDemonWall are the only other comparable fights in the game in this regard, and Titan is much, much worse than either of those in his unforgivingly tight movement requirements.

For players playing under these restrictions, Titan IS unwinnable - unless you count being carried by the other seven players, and in that case I don't really consider them to have "beaten" the fight at all, and they likely do not either.

As I mentioned, my connection is not the best, but it is also not the worst. I have experienced evenings when I knew there'd simply be no point in fighting Titan because the lag would make me a liability rather than an asset - and I've beaten Titan several times. I know the difference between when the lag makes the fight unplayable, and when the fight will be smooth. For some players, though, the lag I consider bad is what they have to deal with all the time. For them, whether or not they can beat Titan has nothing to do with their skill, and everything to do with lag miraculously never setting in when it's going to cost them badly. They keep trying, waiting for the day when the stars will align and they get the perfect pattern of lag that lets them get through the entire fight - and also that the seven others they play with can hold up their end, when many of THOSE players may also be waiting for their own stars to align.

There ARE bad players, don't get me wrong, and some of them undoubtedly blame lag for their shortcomings. But don't make the mistake of assuming that everyone who blames lag is actually a bad player.

Even worse, the more time passes, the more obsolete content like Titan becomes. The majority of players attempting him are not skilled veterans, but players trying to beat him in order to access other content. This means that more and more often when you join a Titan fight it will be mostly composed of newbies, bad players, and folks suffering from chronic lag. SE tried to encourage skilled veterans back to repeat the content by adding the rare mounts, but skilled vets understandibly prefer to team up with other skilled vets in Party Finder groups, rather than struggle through the content with these players.

It's a troublesome problem. While I don't know what the answer is, I'm reasonably sure that telling folks with lag to "git gud" isn't very helpful. :p

That depends. I've gotten tons of 100 soldiery bonuses on DF Titan EX, and still managed to at least two shot it, if not one shot (and said new player didn't die). Then again, these days everyone is so overgeared for everything, that being a member or two down isn't really significant anymore.

I win about 90% of my Titan EX runs in DF usually queue for all the runs I need ponies on. Since a lot of people doing them for ponies now and know the fight its usually an easy win. Unless both healers are on 100 solidary and fall right away then you lose but thats really only way.

^ That. It's like the manifold RNG gating of so many crafter items / glamour pieces. Getting just one thing probably won't turn all your hair grey, getting all of them together will probably have you scratch the paint off the walls until your nails bleed. And with those it is only RNG, in a fight like this, you have the RNG and the additional potential new and/or bad players as well.

And yeah, I'm not sure people in general actually memorise all those rotations and know them by heart. Especially if they don't want to farm the content in question.
