So I see a lot of hints of ff12 in ff14 am I missing something is there a conection or is it just the naming
There are alusions to most of the final fantasy series in FF14 ranging from FF1 all the way to FF12. Lightning from FF13 even had her own event. So while they are all diffrent worlds, remember that they all have a loose connection via the void. That seems to be the one and only comman factor and possibly what ultimatly seperates all the final fantasy games' worlds from each other.
So are they the same world? No, the Devs have said Eorzia is in it's own world unrelated from FF11, FF12, ect. Are Ivaliace and Eorzia connected? Only by the void its self which seperates all the worlds of final fantasy.
Nope, but the same team worked on both, so there are a lot of similarities, just the cities :
one in the wood( viera village and Gridania )that live with the spirits of the forest,
one in the desert(Dalmasca and ul'dah),
one of pirates(Limsa, Balfonheim),
an empire ( Arcadia / garlemald ),
a holy city in a snowy mountain ( Ishgard and whatever was it's name ),
a city conquered by the empire and where a disaster happened ( Ala Migho and Nabudis ).
And all the zodiac references ( Ascians/the twelves/eons of Ivalice ).
To be fair, most of those are stock RPG tropes.
Most, if not all, of the references to other FF games are just that, references. They are acknowledging older entries in the series, but this is a whole different world and universe. The Zodiac references are a bit more concrete, but the Dev team has stated time and time again that Eorzea has no link to Ivalice.
Unless you use "The Void-Multiverce Theory".
Basically Each final fantasy taking place, not in a seperate world, but a seperate parallel deminsion that is connected by the void.
This is the basis theory for the "There's only one Gilgimesh" Paradox. That every Gilgimesh ever encountered is infact the same one that Exdeath cast into the void in FF5, just apearing slightly diffrent as to not stand compleatly out in the diffrrent worlds.
Except SE themselves have specifically addressed by stating outright that FFXIV has no direct connection to FFXII, FFXI or any other FF game (it was a post by Bayohne that stated this in a past 'Letter From the Producer Q@A' , originally found here which sadly seems to have disappeared, but I luckily saved the post in question and have included it here):
And yes, there is the Void in FFXIV that also appears throughout the FF series as a kind of 'world between worlds', but again, it doesn't mean FFXIV is directly connected to any other FF game. Gilgamesh's appearance in ARR has never really been explained other than a vague "I've found myself in your world" sort of thing, so until SE states outright that he arrived via the Void or by some other means, it is mere speculation.Quote:

Also no two dimensions in any multiverse actually are connected. The Void or "Primal Chaos" as it's sometimes called is what seperates them not connects them. Only a few indeveduals in fiction can even access the void let alon cross it. And most who've tryed have suffered great cencequences for doing so.
Shantotto's appearance in ARR ironically is a direct reference to FFXI though (thus kinda strawmaning my prior post :p) - in that she mentioned she arrived in Hydaelyn/Eorzea via a spell that went awry due to her meddling with it - the same spell that sent her across dimensions and kick-started the storyline of her FFXI mini-expansion pack A Shantotto Ascension (she even directly name-dropped the expansion's title in her dialogue).
She didn't state she went through the Void though to arrive in Hydaelyn - she simply said her powers allow for 'interdimensional travel', given the fact her home world of Vana'diel is a tangled web of different realities, parallel universes, pocket dimensions and alternate histories, it stands to reason that a powerful mage such as Shantotto would be easily able to travel between all of them at will. But we're getting sidetracked here.
I think the only thing that's certain is that another one of such threads will pop up sooner or later, and it shows that some fans of the franchise will always want to see links between different Final Fantasy worlds even when the developers themselves officially say there are none. It's the stuff of urban legends. People will always want to believe what they want to believe. :p
One question I've wondered, so many of the Single player Final Fantasy have more technology in them, sprawling metropolis, automated travel (cars, trains etc) yet the MMOs 11 and 14 are more swords and sorcery than advanced tech.
Just wondered why such a difference for the MMO FF games. Albeit the older titles have been more Fantasy, just like from 7 onwards (that I know of maybe earlier if someone can confirm) The worlds have been bent more towards futuristic with fantasy swords and sorcery elements.
Maybe thats why Praetorium for me gives the most Final Fantasy vibe of all the dungeons.
The short answer: Tetsuya Nomura.
He was heavily involved in the designs for Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X and XIII, some of the arguably more "space-age" titles in the franchise.
I think you'll find that a number of fans of the franchise would disagree with your impression, especially the older ones who have played Final Fantasy games since the beginning. For many of them, the move towards futuristic designs was a departure from the norm, and that's why FFIX was so popular: they regarded it as a return to the franchise's "sword-and-sorcery" roots.
In any case, you'll find that almost all Final Fantasy titles have some sort of "futuristic" elements in them. I, for one, am not overly fond of space-age elements in my fantasy role-playing games unless they are part of its integral design. My favourite title in the franchise, Final Fantasy Tactics, does not feature any faux future designs, and that's likely part of why I love it so much. Contemporary fans liken it to the Game of Thrones, which is an apt comparison. Back when I first played it, I simply loved dark and gritty tone. It was a game filled with ethos and pathos. The other Final Fantasy titles I enjoy are very much in the same vein.
No, not the void. The rift. I got it confused as well but those are different. Like, the void of 5 was imprisoned in the rift. The void is like the underworld.
AS far as we know the only ones directly related are 7 and 10.
14 seems to cherry pick the best of each. Mostly 3, 6 and 7 but plenty of 12 as well.
Yeah, 10 is confirmed to be related int FFX-2. Shinra, one of the al behd, is confirmed to be the ancestor of the founders of Shin Ra corporation in FF7. They are not the same world, though, as the FFX world eventually settled other planets via space travel some point in it's distant future. Or FF7's distant past.
I wouldn't take a tongue-in-cheek comment made by Yoshinori Kitase during an interview as 'proof' of that though - it's never been confirmed in any official capacity either in FFVII's Compilation or FFX itself - the character Shinra and his comments about 'planet energy' and 'building a city that never sleeps' is just the same sort of thing as the Ascians having the names of the Scions of Light from FFXII - a name reference for fanservice and nothing more.
The fact Kitase joked about it during that interview shows even he didn't take the idea seriously and was just having a laugh at the interviewer's expense at actually considering such a ridiculous idea.
Now the real question is, are they hints of FF12, or are they hints of...?

Cause FFXII was pretty much a rip off of that.
Vaan = Luke
Ashe = Leia
Balthier = Han Solo
Fran = Chewbakka
Dalmasca = Alderaan
Golmore = Endor
The Empire = The Empire
Judges = Darth Vader
Jagd Yensa = Tatooin
Urutan-Yensa = Jawa
Aaaand someone's in the Empire was the father of someone in the party.
Slightly off-topic, but I'll never get tired of making people notice, lol. But yes, there's theories Hydaelyn and Ivalice may be in the same universe at least.
The world of VII shares very little with the world of X, even if the planets are completely different the physics of the universes simply do not match up.
- In VII there isn't a single pyrefly in sight, Summons behave differently with no equivalent of fayth, nor is there an equivalent for the farplane, and people don't require sendings on Gaia to avoid becoming fiends. You can literally walk into the farplane in FFX, again, something with no equivalent in VII, else the whole "very important person being dead" thing may have played out much differently.
- In FFX, there's no such thing as Materia or Mako despite there being tons of dead people floating around everywhere, which would be a disaster case in FFVII. Were it the same universe, anyone who walked into Zanarkand (or the farplane) would have likely died from mako poisoning.
If this is a real connection stated by SE, then it was very clearly made up after the fact likely on a whim, with no intention of it happening during either FFVII's initial writing or FFX's.
I put nothing past them for FFX-2 though, it was on a completely different level story wise, just like that terrible novel they wrote and called canon. And if these are the same people who butchered VII's lore to make Advent Children / Crisis Core / DoC happen (and later FFXIII lol) then i'm not at all surprised.
I am surprised no one brought up Ultros in this thread. Doesn't have to do with 12 but he was purple, like to set traps and had to fight him as a boss in other games.
Ultros was again, just a reference to FFVI and not a direct link to FFVI's world (he was not the FFVI Ultros at all, as it was clearly stated he was actually a failed creation of the THM's Guild, who then abandoned him because he was considered a failure, which makes one wonder exactly what it was they were trying to make).
Typhon on the other hand.... who knows exactly where he came from - his origins were never explained. But I guess he can just easily be handwaved away as another 'Voidsent'.
We could ask Typhon ourselves but I'm pretty sure the answer would be FUNGAH.
Ultros wasn't created by the thm, they summoned him along with other voidsent, so he is likely the same.
Not neccessarily - Dour Meadow doesn't actually state that he was summoned from the Void in the Hildibrand questline at all:
Of course the use of the word incantations does seem to suggest 'summoning', but why state he was born rather than simply outright say he was summoned and be done with it? Why beat around the bush? It might just be how it was worded, but to me it seems the THM's Guild created him via arcane magics rather than actually summoned him. But counterpoint to that could be it's just mere semantics - a different term that ultimately just means the same thing anyway. So I don't know, I guess I'm just reading too much into it. :pQuote:

here's just a short list of similarities drawn from early FF titles into later titles including XI:.
FFI - The uber-original. Most things derive from here.
FFII - Dreadnought airship controlled by the evil empire (oh, and evil empire/rebel faction) Magic & machine hybrids. Passwords to gain trust. Underworld, Cid, Chocobos
FFIII - Castle was floating according to ffI lore, but first with a floating continent. many staple creatures first seen here, like summons. Moogles! Job-change system, Crystal Tower
FFIV - interactive mounts, Active-Time Battle system. Multiple breeds of chocobo.
FFV - parallel worlds addressed, void explicitly addressed, intro to Gilgamesh. Minigames added. Job system further expanded
FFVI - Heavy expansion to magitech, 1000 year old mage war. Magicite used to gain power by equipping gems and fighting monsters (similar to vii materia). cinematic cutscenes. Coliseum battles. Ultros. Weather system (Mog). A crapload of stuff.
FFVII - characters graduate from sprites to 3d models- Gold Saucer, materia attachments in gear sockets, chocobo breeding/racing
FFVIII - upgrade system for gear
FFIX - Feud between 2 uber powerful summons: Bahamut & Alexander. Mist/miasma as a source of magical beasts threatening the world.
FFX - Macalania woods much like corrupted aether east of camp drybone. Full CG cutscenes & voice acting
FFXI - Shantoto event, races of Vana'diel closely based on player races in xiv
FFXII - Hunt system
FFXIII - Lightning event
I'm sure im missing a LOT and may expand later... but this is just off of the top of my head.
What I love about it is how they are bringing it all together. They may be all separate games but the way they pick and choose favorite pieces from past games is a lot of fun. Some people don't even realize the correlation between the old games and the current. There is an age gap that never experienced the originals.
Playing through the Ultros chapter of Hildebrand brought back so many memories of FFVI.
I'm the only one who thinks FF14 is the MMO version of FF12? The UI looks like, the battle, just have name changes here and there. And no Penelo or Vaahn, which pleases me. I miss my Bunny though
