To the people complaining that Triiple Triad will cost...

You DO know it's not a PART of FFXIV, don't you? It's going to be free via the Square Enix Portal App, and will link up with FFXIV. Meaning you do not need FFXIV to play it, for it is a standalone app.

And due to that will have booster packs which cost.

Well they had to spend money to develop the app, so in-game purchases to cover the costs of a free game and generate revenue after the fact is a decent business model. I don't think it's exactly the same as a lot of the arguments seen lately about the cash shop situation though, since the P2P factor is non-existent for this app.

I think a lot of people on the forums didn't know about it being a stand alone app as well and thus the complaints about it. Its how free cell phone games make their money with in app purchases, its the nature of the beast. If you don't know how cell phone apps work and make their money you should go watch the southpark episode "Freemium isn't Free" They know only around 3-5% of the people who download the game will make a purchase but that is still enough to make a profit and cover their dev costs.

Or they have never played All the Bravest.

Well they hinted and then promised a card game for the Golden Saucer for about a year, guess it's just another one of their typical bait and switches, no surprise there considering the myriad of other moves like this.

No, I was not aware of it being a standalone app, as that was not initially mentioned and, from the source you included seems to be fairly recent news.

Because that's certainly not how it worked in its original form in FFVIII... oh, wait.

Anyway, I don't care if the app has purchases, but if they have separate ones on mogstation it will be even more ridiculous.

Err... Save for the fact of the mentions of it starting in Gold Saucer and having tournaments held there and fighting specific NPCs? It is very much an In-game 'extra'.

There's likely going to be as the OP said, a link between the two. Card transfer or some other level of data interactivity that allows purchases on the app to transfer to XIV for example.

Thats what I'm replying too. The way he is wording it, its focus is like another Hearthstone, which given on the info until now, is not. The app was the outside source, not the other way around.

I'm not talking about the app side, but the ffxiv side. Free app = pay for cards, whatever, I don't care. But in ffxiv, yes, we SHOULD be able to battle NPCs for cards.

Oh well, still disappointing. Wonder if the other minigames we were looking forward to will involve money somehow as well.

if SE makes it like hearthstone then no matter what device you play on you have the same cards on your account, basically they have 1 server for the card game when you play it no matter if its on pc, tablet, ipad ect you still have the same cards across all those devices you just log in with the same ID/pass. You earn cards on ipad for example they will be there when you play on pc.

I'm just putting this out there, since there seems to be people who hadn't heard the news.

I would much prefer it to be a standalone thing, because I would love to be able to play this without having to resub to FFXIV.

Also; I'm sure we will still be able to night some NPCs in the Golden Saucer, but this will probably be for their specific card. It most likely as not be for different random cards. FFXIV will most probably add a few cards that can not be obtained otherwise (since this, in itself would be an incentive to play FFXIV).

But all in all, there will still be booster packs that will cost. And I, for one, am looking forward to it. Always wanted a FF card game to go online. And no, Tetra master didn't cut it for me :P

They didn't becuase noone from the XIV team said it.

Until now all they've said is "we are making a triple triad game for gold saucer" now it turns out it's a movile game linked to ff xiv. That's a MAJOR change of wich they still have to tell us something about, because the little info we have about it was said in a japanese SE event.

I'm starting to distrust every single thing Yoshida says in Live Letters and Forum posts, it's been one thing after another, from outright lies, to changes in direction to completely omiting things they don't want us to know until it's "too late" (paid eternal bond for example)

I'll be completely honest here. There is a huge, HUGE team behind all of this. what Yoshi said may just very well come to pass. He stated that Triple Triad will come for Golden Saucer. It still is. But it is coming via another standalone app. What he said isn't exactly a lie, but it's the simple details that was what we were missing.

Might be best to actually wait for the details before assuming things.

Why would you be complaining about more ways to play their card game? If you don't want to play it on a phone or tablet then don't.

There is a slight difference between a dinky app designed for a phone and a fleshed out system designed for in-game. If the app is indeed the main chunk of the TT game, then Gold Saucer will be nothing more than a glorified AFK point to stand at while you play TT in game. As to where if the TT game was designed to be in XIV, we'd be traveling different places collecting cards from NPCs and challenging people wherever in-game and of course the tournaments being held, while the app would be the ability to use your deck against others in a match-making system that is linked.

You don't actually know that. Again, that is simply a theory. You people (you in a general term) seem to do this a lot on these forums actually.

You take a tiny, small comment made from a dev. Concoct this remarkable idea and theory behind the comment, imagine it in your grand scheme of things and then complain it isn't that when the dev comes out with something else.

Hearthstone, is designed for tablets, PCs and iphones and the like. It's a smooth system and I don't see why they wouldn't do that with Triple Triad. We shall see.

Also, as I said before. We simply don't know what TT in the game would entail. All we were tol is that it would tie in with Gold Saucer and that tournaments would be held there and we would be able to fight NPCs. None of this has actually be discredited. All we know is that TT will be linked from an app, and that we will be able to play it outside of the game.

Well by all means tell the devs to give us more to go on, would love more transparent explanations compared to the hit-n-run's we've been getting lately. Also, I'm 'concocting' nothing, again, a phone app can't simulate what can be done inside a PC game, unless of course the PC side is limited to what the phone app can do.

Yes, on its own Hearthstone is fine. It was never designed to be an in-game system as TT was first mentioned. If TT was first mentioned as an outside app that may link with XIV, then sure, but that is not how they described the game, until now.

We were told quite a bit of what would be entailed had the game be focused in XIV. Your right that nothing has been discredited yet, although we now have two different stories sitting in front of us; one that shows TT as a system within XIV, and one that shows TT as just an app that XIV can link through GS.

From what I understand there will be a stand-alone app and an in-game FF14 triple triad one. The two will be able to interact with each other.

I'm just going to comment at the post at a whole, due to the pain of actually posting anything on these forums.

I'm not saying that an app on a phone will rival one on a PC, but it can definitely come close to feeling smooth with it. I mean, lord almighty, it's a card game app. It's doesn't need cutting edge technology to look nice and to work. Especially not Triple Triad. Also, that would be another point I'd add on. It's highly unlikely they would make it look THAT different from the original, since we've been looking and waiting for the original. They're no doubt going to take the original design, add a few flairs and polish it up real smooth and then give it to us.

I am fairly certain, if we sit down and think logically here, that what they make will be fine enough to work on both phone and on PC. Not to mention this would also have to work on console too, which would add even more complicated elements to it, which in itself even lead to the conclusion that TT will not be designed to be over the top at all.

I'm curious as to see what you are exactly expecting TT to be to the point where it being on a phone would hinder the system at all.

For me? I genuinely doubted that we would be able to play it out and about. I pretty much felt certain that we would only be able to play it within Gold Saucer, in that specific instance. I mean, SE doesn't let us open the FC panel while in a bloody instance. You think they're going to let us run around in the open world, and play a card game with others?

As I said, there really is not that much information for us to make any sort of theories on how it will turn out. But what we do know is that none of what they have actually said, has been false.

kinda have to agree with you here. The forums are all about blowing things out of proportion, but that wont change
