Aren't Leves Meant To Be Possible On Your Own?

I'm a 26 rank Archer.

I can't level in the 25 dungeon, because on my server, it's impossible to find a party of people the same level. It's always higher end characters running, with people my level joining in. (so exp is pointless.)

So the only way that seems the proper way of leveling is to do Leves... here comes my problem.

I'm doing Rank 20 levels, on solo and they just woop my backside. I did one where I have to kill these skeleton things, and you always have to fight too. Impossible for me to stay alive, even with cure.

Isn't one point of leve's, is that you can solo them if needed?

What star level are you doing the leves on? Because my husband and I duo all the time and have no problem doing 4 stars on that one and we are about the same rank as you.

Well to be fait the skeleton quest in Horizon is hard even on solo level. Altho at your level you should be able to do 2 stars.

You are an archer but did you level ccon or thm to get at least the level 1 cure or sacrifice to help healing yourself? It's like level 8 I think so it takes about 30min to get it.

Aside from that, try to bind one of the targets when they come in pair and focus on one.

And then you have leves mobs that are right on top of a nm you can't solo at that rank...

Do you have multishoot yet? That attack usually devastates pretty much anything, and if it doesn't it gives you a ton of tp to spam on the enemy.

wow its pretty much impossible to lose on leve thats 6 levels under you. how do i help you? mab lower the leve level? if not go to LL and do leves there.

I had a friend who restarted who kept failing as well (1-star for the recommended level or lower). The combination of a low physical level & non-healing abilities from other classes. That's the best i could tell him.

He ended up getting discouraged and left again till physical level removal.

No one is going to give FF14 chance if they keep getting discouraged like this, makes me sad.

I started over as well and while I did have trouble doing rank 20 leves while I was level 17-18 (mobs were 25+) I did not get discouraged by that. You just have to learn to play more skillfully and use the little crowd control abilities you have. of course leveling a magic class to 8 to get the basic cure would be a good thing for people having trouble.

Yeah, that leve was kinda brutal. But I was able to pull off whichever difficulty had rank 25 skeletons duos as a rank 18-19 gladiator. Guard, sacrifice, stoneskin, second wind, rampart, and shockspikes allowed me to barely survive, though.

But you know what still sucks? 1000 needles from a rank 20 cactaur... Why the hell is this ability still being used by low rank cactaurs? The leve requested me to kill 10 of them, and the last 3 attacked as a group. Surely one of them was going to bust out the needles.

Problem is thats a significantly harder leve than the average ones and skeletons in general arnt easy to deal w/ unless you got practice they hit hard drain hp to heal themselves etc... Also all leves are not balanced for every class and sometimes you do a leve and get your ass handed to you becauseyo u are not aware of what to expect. Ie... last night i did a bearded rock leve where i waited in a circle for mobs to attack me. First 2 bombs popped and ran towards me i easily killed them. Then 1min later 6 mobs pop right on top of me and proceed to hand my ass to me on a platter. Thanks for the Durability loss SE. I had to return wait to unweaken buff up and luckily theyre was 2 groups of mobs and i easily handled them. Always make sure you got shock spikes/ AOE attacks etc equipped when doing leves and SAC2 or CURE2 at least. Also dont be afaird to run like a bitch and recouperate if you think you cant handle what you got yerself into lol.

And dungeons are not a viable means of lvling anyways at your lvl you can take 4 people and head to nanwa mines and get 20k+ a hour on puks.

As my husband and I duo...what helps us with those are a combo or his mrder skills and my Con and thm skills...I'm usually buffing with pro and shell, I have sac II and Cure II also I use Stone skin and shock spikes as well. He uses his thm skills to debuff and then I nuke and cast cure when needed.

That is our strat. I hope those helps :/ Sorry you are having such a hard time on those...

Question though...if SE is trying to make the leves for soloers...why don't they instead of making the monsters com in pairs...just split them up and double up the exp as if it were two mobs? IDK...just makes more sense from someone who played XI...

I wouldn't let it bother you too much, although, I do think the difficulty should be lowered on it. With players who were starting out, that leve was always difficult and most players wouldn't start it without some back up.

Honestly, it's the difference between a player who started at launch and one who started later. A player with L50 physical can hit softcap in several different attributes at R24/25 that another player can't when their physical matches their rank level. This is the part that most players find unfair when starting out and trying these difficult leves on their own.

For now, I'd do what was suggested already in the thread. Try to recruit some back up for this leve specifically.

hehe see? me it's the other way around, as a CON I had a lot of trouble with the skeletons on solo difficulty when I was level 18-20 but the cactuars were easy bait. They would die quickly from magic and not gain enough tp for their needles.

Some of the leves are just plain hard, you just have to find them out with trial and error.
Such is the skeleton leve at horizon, its just not the 'standard' starting difficulty as the other leves. Same with the cacti leve (altho if your lucky you can evade 1000 needles >.> to my surprise)
If you do 8 leves, there are bound to be some that are a little harder than others

I would perhaps level up some other classes and pick up a few more abilities. You said you have cure, but what about protect, shell?
I'd also check your gear, if you have high level gear, too high for your level, you're better running it with no gear (or something like that)

Also, make sure your gear is repaired, and that you've spent your attribute points in areas that will help you survive more like VIT, and DEX. MND wouldn't hurt if you are casting cure. :)

All leves are really easy honestly. People in my ls commonly solo the rank 40ish ones on 4-5 stars... most people I see complain they are way way too easy.

People just need to figure things out more. Level more job to get sub abilities and stuff.

In the end it might sound bad and like people are attacking you but if you are failing at leves especially ones below your level you are doing something really really wrong.

1) You are on a hard leve at too high of a setting, Something you figure out over time.
2) You are focusing on only 1 class, not how the game is designed to be played (every class alone is crazy gimp)
3) You are using very low level armor so you are taking massive dmg (aka. you are like at rank 25 with only level 6 armor)
4) You are using proper armor and weapons but they are broken (or a combination of 3 and 4 which is even worse)
5) You have below 45-50 Vitality at a rank 26 class (aka you are lacking hp)

Skellys are the hardest horizon leve, but at rank 26 on 1 star you should almost be able to 1-2 shot them with archer more or less. Get multishot, Use Ferocity and raging strike, aviod agroing more then 1 set at a time. If you are still failing look at your stat allocation and make sure you have stats in Vitality... that is something alot of people are making mistakes on when they are playing DDs or Mages... without vitality you have very little hp meaning soloing is near impossible.

Personally I don't know how you die on them. Is your gear broken? Is it optimal? I play with my mule now and then and I started soloing r20s @r16 PUG.

Bear in mind that the leves were designed to cover 10 levels. The rank 20 leves will contain various tasks that are designed to cover ranks 20-30, so naturally some of the leves will be more challenging, especially the lower your rank is in that leve category. The skeleton leve is one of the hardest, I also think the one with all of the humanoids was pretty tough my first time. If you are having a lot of trouble with it, then skip that particular leve and try it again after gaining another rank up or try to find someone to duo with you.

Most players are able to start the next leve category up at 5 levels below the suggested minimum rank - so at 25 you should be able to start on some of the easier to complete rank 30 leves. Cedarwood, Humblehearth, and Nophica's Wells btw will be a bit easier than the other rank 30 choices in the mines, cellar, and hollow when you do switch to those.

As others have said, make sure you cover the basics of making sure you have the correct gear/weapon/ammo for your rank. And definitely try to rank up some of the other classes as well to gain the benefit of the physical level stats as well as the use of some helpful abilities. If you hate mage classes, try Pugilist - you get Second Wind fairly early on and that is a healing spell you can use on your Archer.

I did this as 20 pug with only lnc at 10 and physical lvl 17. I was able to complete that one by watching their cone aoe. As the blue mist started to signify their ws, i just moved behind them and it never hit me. Now i dont know if i was just lucky with the misses, but every time i did move behind them while the ws was being activated, i received a miss from it. Of course it was super hard and i did die with the first group. But i guess i was a quick learner and i was able to do the rest. But i did have to rely heavy on my Second wind and potions. And no i did not have any evade buffs up at the time of the misses, just thought i would put that out there ^^

My point is along with everyone else, strategy works well with the updated eq, vit and so on.

Normally monsters rank have the same rank as the camp with 1 star. In Camp Horizon, it would be R20. Each star increase the rank +3.
Example: Ladybugs in a leve in Camp Horizon with 3 stars would be rank 26

But some monsters, like skeletons or devilets, don't start with monster rank = camp rank but with monster rank = camp rank +5. The skeletons in the leves with 1 star are rank 25 and are in a certain way almost like 3 star leves.

As pointed out, that leve always was difficult, I remember large parties wiping on it when I was levelling around there.

The main question I would ask, is your gear suitable for your rank and class? Wearing gear designed for a different class gives you a huge penalty to your defence as does using gear designed for a much higher rank. Also are you using a suitable bow? You should be using a Willow Composite Bow or an Ash Longbow.

Apart from that, multishot is your friend. Multishot -> Raging Strike -> Multishot -> Light Shot does amusingly large amounts of damage. And if you can add Ferocity from Lancer (rank 4) then the damage is even more fun.

Easy fix is to not do that particular leve, OP. All the camps have one or two leves that are insanely hard compared to the others. Wight Stuff is Horizon's PITA. Stay away. ^^

As others have said, part of the issue is that the leve you're talking about is just difficult.

Also, in looking at your character profile page, you've got Arc up to level 27, Conj up to level 4, and that's pretty much it. So your Arc is level 27, but your physical level is 22. That means that physically you're going to be weaker than mobs that are level 27.

It also means that you have almost no cross class skills to equip. Skills from other jobs help a ton in this game. Level Pug until you get Second Wind; level Marauder until you get Bloodbath; level Lancer until you get Ferocity and Invigorate; level Conjurer until you get Cure, Protect, Shell, and Shock Spikes; level Thaum until you get Sacrifice. You can get all of those skills in fewer than 10 levels. And they'll all help you immensely with your Archer.

Leveling those other jobs will also raise your physical level, so it will be closer to -- or even higher than -- your Archer level.

SE designed this game to encourage you to play more than one class. Try some of the other classes out. You might even like them. :)

I never had any problem soloing leves ever. Maybe equip better abilities or put stat points somewhere else? In a few weeks you won't have to worry about stats as much though.

I have problems soloing certain r40 leves now that were nowhere near as difficult before.

Since the changes to leves, all of the defend-this-spot type of leves have become broken, or at least so it feels. The waves spawn way too closely to each other, and sometimes there is no pause at all between them. The bomb and ahriman one is particularly impossible now, as a wave of 2 bombs and a wave of 3 ahriman always spawn at the same time.

I dunno many who could survive that alone - I sure can't. And if you happen to be of a rank multiple 5, its game over.

Also, these mobs will not return to their territory either if you try to run (in hopes of being able to pick them off after they settle) they will chase you to the end of the Eorzea it seems. This I know from experience, having been chased from where they spawned nearly all the way back to the camp before they finally did me in.

This was me at GLA43 doing the leve at 1 star. Other leves are much more challenging now due to the hike in mp costs, but the most of the defense leves with boss types are nigh impossible now. And the ones that are defense till the time run out are extremely difficult as well.

The cliff yarzon one for example, if you don't destroy them fast enough you will end up with 5 or 6 on you (and sometimes they aren't grouped at all for some reason, so you lose sp if you try to aoe them to death). Very difficult odds for a solo player with the mp costs what they are.

I just soloed one of the bomb + ahriman leves (at Bald Knoll) last night as a 36 PUG - I did die a couple of times and I did have to zone to move the mobs away from the yarzons, but I was able to complete the leve. I do not have any mage classes leveled, so no cure - just my own healing wind and bloodbath equipped. I did not have trouble getting them to stop following me however. I wonder if you ran into a glitch? I found it a challenge due to my rank, but not impossible.

Its that whole dying part that tends to bother me.

I can succeed on the leve, but I likewise end up getting KO'd and then come back and peel off the critters one group at a time. But that doesn't sound like much of a plan to me, especially not with the damage gear suffers now, and it's not something I consider soloable if I have to die to win.

As for the following part, I haven't had to run from the spiders, but I tried running from the ahriman and the bombs and they just kept on chasing me. Otherwise I'd be able to shake them off instead of dying, and then peel off the groups one by one.

But I've done this leve before the patch, and those two waves in particular (bombs and then ahrimans) had enough of a break between them before to defeat the bombs before the 3 eyes show up. Now there's hardly a pause (if any at all). Sometimes I can manage to take one of the bombs out before the ahriman actually get to me, but it doesn't help.

All other r40 leves I can do easily at 3 stars on my own. But this one? Not so. I don't count dying as a success. ^^; Especially since I don't have armorer leveled.

A 26 Archer should absolutely destroy R20 leves. Even with higher star difficulty.

SE did it because we tell them the defend leves are boring and the times between the waves are too long.
How you can make them now without the monsters overrun you? With each wave, run away from the spot. The defender timer stop and you can kill the current wave without to be afraid that the next wave is coming to early. The time between the waves are ~ 30 seconds.

If I had also been rank43+ running the same leve on 1* I would not expect to die. However, I was r36 and fully anticipated a possible death when I had to deal with three r45 ahriman, 2 r45 bombs and several r43 yarzon all on me at the same time.

If you were unable to release aggro by running away, then it might have been a glitch, otherwise the leve isn't broken - using the strategy of running to pull the levequest mobs out of the aggro mob area until they all lose aggro, then coming back and dealing with just the levequest mobs works.

This game is still very, very easy.
Some people just want anything "for free"...

And then there comes a leve along which finally gets you to think about you skill setup, your stats, your gear, yor tactict, your position, your timing and so and people are complaining it's too hard.
This leve is the hardest horizon leve, yes. But Horizon leves are staited as ~rank 20 and not Rank 20.
Also, it isn't really that hard. Skeletons are a class where it's extremely important to evade their attacks.
It's not very easy, but its also not that hard. Without there powerful TP attacks, which can all be avoided, they lose most of their power and become pretty easy.

Please don't complain even about the tiny tiny challenges we have now.

Skellies are strong against piercing and that leve has always been difficult solo, I suggest doing a different leve if that's an option.

with the new leves being solo material, 1000 needles has got to go. That attack was adjusted so the damage would spread over the party, with no party you take all the damage. At rank 20 you are pretty lucky if you have over 1000 hp.

You prolly will have better luck if you moved to Gridania.
1. Leves are somewhat easier.
2. You can obtain guild marks there which you can use to get some skills/traits from the guild.

Honestly , if your server is soo bad start on a new one , there is nothing that will ruin a game quicker than being on a bad server for you , start over now and have fun , Lindblum always has groups .

I think this is exactly it. Early on, The Wight Stuff traumatized me of the skeleton mobs because I couldn't clear it as an R24-ish pugilist and died oh-so-many times trying even on 1-star.

Now my physical level is 50 (so I take much less damage from them) and I have better defensive magic -- so I can clear it as an R16 lancer quite easily.

Please don't give up. You'll be able to beat them sooner rather than later. ^^

I think this leve in particular is more trouble than its worth at the moment. I don't mind a challenge, but this is just silliness. The last time I did this one, I had the leve destination spawn in the valley I believe you're talking about, where the yarzons and elementals are. I tried to outrun them again and had a lovely train of critters behind me, most of which turned back. But the ahriman (ahrimen?) and bombs kept on trucking.

This time when I came back towards the defense spot after my glorious KO, I realized that the bomb and ahrimans hadn't returned to the defense area. So. I stood there and waited out the timer. They eventually made it back, but the timer ran out before they could unleash their fury upon me again. So, whether I didn't run far enough, or whether I am experiencing a glitch I dunno - the critters chased me far enough that it took them a good deal of time to get back. (I believe they only started moving back when I entered the area again. I can't be sure of that though, as they weren't on my radar. Either way, quite a distance!)

The rewards of this leve just aren't worth the time and trouble to me now, considering I can do other leves much quicker and at higher stars. So, I think my winning strategy will be... not to accept this leve anymore. :P
