I don't see what the big deal is. We are 2 and half months away from, most likely, ilvl 130 gear that will make hunts a lot less important. Anyone that is driven away from the game will return at the next major patch just like they always do. Let people who normally can't get the best gear feel like they have a chance.

You assume they're not going to do more with a brand new currency they just added to the game? I see them adding the next round of upgrade-able items to it with 2.4

To say that the hunt needs re-balancing is a fair statement but saying that it's ruining the game is just exaggerating. There's always some problems with new content, but if it encourages people to play the game more then it's not entirely a bad thing.

By the time of 2.1, you could farm myth all day to gear out and be just as good as anyone who run the first binding coil (minus allagan weapons that were bumped to i95). It's a catch-up patch and the dev team always intend to give non-raiders more way to get oil and sand. Also, you are still limited by soldiery cap so it's not like you can go ham and full i110 for every single class.

There's nothing surprising about it. It is a little bit "too good" but to claiming that it "ruins" the game is just a bit melodramatic don't you think?

If you "normally" can't get the best gear then you don't deserve it. And your logic never works, because the raiders will still flock to this content as they can get MUCH more oils/sands than they could in a 1 week lock out with 1 oil being rolled on by 8 players.

And this was implicitly admitted as a design flaw seeing as Soldiery is 100 and H.Allagan is 110. And before, the only way to get i110 Soldiery was Coil

Hunt is something that you can't put minimal effort into and still get a lot out of. So many groups have people standing afk in a zone, waiting for a train to come by and following it, and then complain when they don't get enough credit cause the rest of their group didn't get there on time.

There are websites and google docs that have the time of death per server. Ask for a link to one or ask what zones have open windows if you are unable to access the website yourself. If they say "I dunno. Pick a zone.", either pick a zone and hope for luck or leave and try to join a more organized group.

As Namasu said; it can definitely be improved, but to say it's ruining the game is exaggerating.

No, it's not melodramatic. When one activity makes all the others pointless and obsolete, then it's actually doing a huge disservice to the game, especially when you spend a lot of time and effort to create content like Syrcus Tower and Ramuh EX that most ouf your user base is completely ignoring and will continue to do so. Hunts is just bad designed content, and in its current form it should have no place in such a high quality game.

It's not always about the end reward. These features are designed with a certain pace in mind. The accelerated pacing of obtaining rewards from hunts far outweighs other content. I know I'll be right, because SE will more than likely make changes to the systems rate of reward.

also Myth still had a hard cap in 2.1

I think this is what they forgot to do. They added in content in which for the most part you can pretty much gear to i110 without even having to touch coil which means for the most part, doing coil isn't really as needed because you can gear up to i110 through other means that don't force you to fight over sand/oil drops and that's the big issue there.

if I"m not mistaken I think sand/oils came maybe 3-4 a coil group, which means only half the group could obtain upgrades.

Now there is a system in place that just does away with that, honestly since they added these 250 allied seal items maybe what they should do is have coil give everyone a free 250 seal book, that would draw people back into doing coil because it would be a guaranteed drop and encourage players to do said content.

There in lies what they forgot to do, they forgot to alter/add to the loot pool of coil when they pretty much added content that replaced coil since it is an easier method to obtain tomes mainly because players don't have to fight over who gets the book or wait til there turn, everyone can pretty much obtain them at the same rate which makes teams working together pull away from coil because they can instead use hunts as a quicker way to gear up their players.

Being able to upgrade to i110 was always meant to be possible without doing coil.
They just had a 14-15 week period where coil was intended to be the only way to get i110 before letting non-coilers catch up.

While I think it was a mistake to not have any kind of lockout on obtaining sand/oil through hunts, it's not as broken as some people make it out to be.

Basically if anyone doubts this, just go in to Syrcus Tower and just watch all the gear hit the floor. It's all about the Unidentified Allagan tomestone at the end that you have fifteen sands on standby to upgrade for your 3rd alt. People might have grabbed up a few pieces of gear for Syrcus Tower the first or second week, but now that word has gotten around about the Unidentified Allagan Tomestone at the end, there is just gear littering the floor. Too bad moogles can't ticket players for littering!

You do realize this is a catchup patch for the next patch?
Thats why we get it easy, SE meant for us to get full ilvl 110 gear so we all can start doing next coil in 3 months

It's always been like that (oh no someplayers have bad gear, let's add something so that that they can catch up within a week)

When I wanna do ST I have a 3 min queue time as any class, I don't really think ppl are ignoring it, so thats why I'd like to see a source of that statement

the main trouble of the hunt it's the lack of deepth and balance into it.
deepth, because the activity it's resumed to wait for mark to spawn. when it was possible to create different level of hunt, like use the leves, add a hunt log, use the FATE already present... no instead they have choose to add monster that can be killed in small group, but with a huge respawn timer. (30 minutes for a monster at the base solo, it was stupid)

why the hunt is ruining the game? because it's not adapted to the game world! we are more of 5000 player per world! we have 17 area for the hunt... let's say only 2000 player do hunt... it means at least 117 player per area looking for the prey. even if only 1000 player do it, it's still around 57 player looking for a monster that can be killed by...a group of 4 with a respawn of 30 minutes.
even a kids can see the trouble here, you don't need to have a huge experience of the mmorpg for see the trouble!

the world is too small and too populated for feature like NM to work! add monster of Rank S that ask more of 24 player to be killed can be good (if they rework the respawn timer and reward and add more of them per area), but under this number? it's simply stupid!

we had the FATE boss, it was possible to add really difficult FATE of level 50 per area that will have serve the feature way better than rank B and A monster. for the dailies and weekly bounty, the leves and faction leves system was perfect! but no... they simply design a broken system that as good as the one we had at the realease of the V1. do you remember what did happend to the release of the V1?

it's time to redo survey for get true number of what people want and don't want, it's time to have a public test server under NDA for check if a feature will not broke the game! and more important, they need to take in account that people outside japan don't have the same culture! and something that can work in japan will not always work outside it!

balance, because it's pointless to do a dungeon when it's far possible to do 1.5 times if not 2 times the same amount of myth and soldiery with a good ls hunt.

i really don't see why you guys care about "5 sands in one week" or whatever. I saw two people the other day who had full unweathered gear besides their extra weathered ring. evidently they struggle or don't care to clear content and given this game runs more on 1HKO mechanics than anything else they will probably continue to not clear content. who really cares if people are i110 if they're not even going to do anything with it. i110 will not get people past Twintania's twisters or Titan's landslides; let those people just get their feel good gear and move on with your own lives.

If you plan to use this gear as an opportunity to beef up for coil or alts, that's great. Stop being so worried about what other people are doing.

personally i don't care about the sand/oil, but i care for the fact that the hunt is only the shadow of what it means to be! worst, drive people to act like douchbag because it's the fastest way to do all (get myth, sol and i110 stuff)

Casuals don't care. Most of hardcore either don't really care or participate in hunts on hardcore basis. There are really only a small crowd (but its vocal, yes) that are affected by this.

And what? People already rocking in full HA sets with ilvl 115 weapons. It's a little to late to segregate crowd and limit access to equipment to slow down progression.
A lot, and it's really a lot of people currently on T9/past T9, and there are really no point now to limit others in progression. Quite contrary, now is the time when people progression should be boosted or we will have sudden jump from being "hardcore only" content to "every casual can go, echo included" without intermediate stage.

The amount of what requires to "deserve" lowers with time. You can now get ilvl90 weapons in mere hours, back in 2.0 it required 3 weeks of mytho cap and passing through Titan Hard that was not such a joke it is now.

They change the curve, it doesn't mean that the high point (i.e. where everybody should be at 2.4) will be lower/significantly lower as before.
2.0-2.1 was a design flaw because you got your full ilvl90 at the end of 2.0 and then you just slack the whole 2.1 doing nothing and dying from boredom. Now you effectively have 10 ilvl for each patch for wide crowd, 2.2 was 100, 2.3 is 110.

We still have soldiery hard cap (and I can't even afford a full set for one class because of it as I got 2 soldiery weapons, one through t7/t8 back in 2.2 and one in 2.3)
SE did nothing to this date *but* made hunting for seals easier in organized fashion. As adjusting HP made it possible to grind even more successful even in prime times. I doubt that they do not understand what they are doing.

Wow... it's like none of the defenders actually bothered to read. I guess that would require too much effort on their part.

The fact is that you have one type of content where you can obtain literally EVERYTHING. Tomes, check. Gear, check. Raid items, check. And this content is being monopolized by a select few. It's not even remotely fair to the majority of those playing the game, and unless you're one of the lucky few, which I'd argue most of the defenders are, you're screwed.

Good luck trying to get in a single blow when there's 100 other people doing exactly the same. Good luck trying to work on your allied seals when the daily marks are so utterly worthless you'd be better off spamming dungeons and buying the gear the old fashioned way.

Open your eyes. It's a broken system which needs some serious attention. When you can do this ONE thing to the exclusion of all else and get everything you'd ever need, there's a big problem. Doubly so when it can be done in such a short time frame that all other content becomes meaningless to attempt.

Assuming they did know what they were doing, it just proves that SE has no clear direction for the future of the game.

There will be some changes about hunting, that people may like, but who knows, everyone is crying anyways. That's part of every MMO. SE wants the people to be i110 before 2.4. So What's the problem? The ones who cleared Coil are i110 already - No problem imo. I think the people who cry, are mostly to lazy to farm. But daily bills will be increased & the amount of seals you get from the elite marks.

Only an idiot would assume this. The reality is that only a handful actually get any credit for these kills. Unless you're at the fight within 30 seconds, you're out. Good luck even trying to get a hit in. The mob, even with their supposedly 'boosted' HP, will die within moments of being spawned. Even if you happen to be in a team which finds the mob first, the individuals need to gather to fight it, since if you're not present when it dies you still don't get credit regardless of what your team did.

Good luck pulling that off when there are countless other teams all vying for the same mob.

I really don't see how it's ruining the rest of the content. My queue times haven't changed at all. Even the party finder is normal. At most, I've seen no more than 4 different hunt parties up simultaneously. With the rest being Levi EX, Moogle EX, SBCOB turns, AV or DD first room clears to level 50, Syrcus tower, and even still Garuda EX, Titan EX and Ifrit EX. Oh, and also treasure hunts.

Even if they hadn't added hunts, the only reason people would be doing Ramuh EX is for something new to do. You could still get the item to upgrade the accessory in Syrcus tower, still leaving Ramuh's items useless or a side grade.

For the dozenth time, the problem for me isn't that hunts are giving "handouts". It's that hunts have obsoleted other content to the point where even finding a group for it has become more cumbersome than it really should be. The only people doing Ramuh are folks who want clears and a vast minority after ponies and weapon skins; the only people doing listings for SCOB or T5 groups are rare progress statics who need gaps filled on an exceptionally bad attendance day. I'm pretty sure I've even seen my queue times for leveling roulettes go up the roof. And I'm lucky enough to be on a server that has that!

Hell, we're lucky that Syrcus Tower isn't a graveyard yet.

I don't care if you have i115 weapons coming out of your armpits. I just want to play parts of the damn game that aren't the mindless spreadsheet zerg train.

Quite the same (really worst) has happened to PvP player's with level sync... Every body found it fair and awesome.

Increase the rewards from daily bills. Alternatives are always good.

Limit kills to once per week. So more people could actually get something.

Make the marks more like treasure hunts. Having a set time window to spawn is pretty silly, whoever killed them last will be able to do it again more easily.

Put a weekly Allied Seal cap in place. Isn't this already planned?

Limit certain rewards and adjust prices. Some of those prices are indeed ridiculous.

All of these would improve the hunts.

For that you either need to accept that you win some, you lose some. Or you need to join better, more organized groups. As a WHM it's incredibly easy to get full credit as long as at least half of your group is there. Do a SC medica 2, stone 2, then benediction whoever the target is targeting.

This is simply lie.
There are 3 type of reward:
1. Casual stuff like almost obsolete ilvl90 equip and choko reset stone
2. Fancy stuff, as usual for SE very expensive - glamour gear (no person in sane mind will say that ilvl *70* gear for hundreds of seals is something valuable by its own and not it's look), minions etc
3. Upgrade items - namely sands and oil. Only 2 items. Subject to soildiery cap.
No real gear, no raid class weapons, there are literally no actual rewards for hunts but the ability to upgrade only your existing soldiery gear.
You can't even get something like ilvl100 gear for you offspec, if you don't have free soldiery, you can't get *anything* that will upgrade you, from hunts.

Casuals don't care about hunts. I have a social LS where there only like 3-4 people who do hunts and rest are doing their usual routine because they are either too casual, do catch-up after a break or uninterested in such massive investment of time. On other hand i have raiding FC where people actively hunt. But... they hunt for 3 hours, raid for 3 hours, some craft, do roulettes and other typical activities. Only a very small portion of people, counted in tens at max, do nothing but hunts.

The reality is actually that it's pretty easy for everyone to get credit if they're in a full party of 8 and everyone arrives before the hunt is pulled. And there are times this will actually happen, I've seen it happen during late night-early morning groups all the time. And yes, I realize this is often not the case, but uh...you win some, you lose some. Can't have everything and just need to be grateful for what you do get.

The reality of hunts are that when everyone works together, it works out pretty well, actually. And when they don't, it's a disaster. But it doesn't change that hunts are designed in a way that, when organized, allow most if not everyone to get full credit because the contrubution needed to be given by one person is very minimal. I pulled off maybe..a rotation and some auto attacks on an S hunt, got KO'd, warped back to my home point like a moron, tele'd back to the area, and on my way back to the enemy it was killed. Still got all my seals and tomes from it.

the stuff that have the same ilevel like the raid are available via hunt, you get soldiery and the sand/oil/memo... all you need for get your hand on i110 stuff. indeed soldiery is caped, however it's don't make false the point that people don't need to do dungeon or raid for get a very good stuff.

other point, the myth gear is at ridiculous price, when you see that 1 Rank S monster reward is enough for buy 2 part of myth armor... why do dungeon that drop i80 gears. with the zergfest even if you are i 50 you can get point.

the hunt is ruining the game because it create a huge inbalance in the way stuff are given. when a feature make other feature pointless, there the dungeon with the craft loot that drop more than gear. it's a trouble of balance.

more important and it's something people seems to miss, we do all pay our sub for play the same game. but actually the hunt only reward a few... that too a trouble of balance. why create a feature that will only reward a few? it's silly. you can say, well the raid reward few people too, i will say, they have to work for it, you don't work for the hunt. worst you don't even play most of the time.

the question is, do SE want to keep people or keep player. because this feature is not playing, it's most of the time waiting afk or using cheat. it's not fun, is not a challenge,...

by the way, why the casual don't care of hunt? because the casual play for the fun, the hunt is not fun, it make a looooot of drama of it, a lot of trashtalk. then, the casual flee this content. and believe me, a lot of hardcore use the hunt, since they haven't a lot to do outside this.

no it don't work as intended... remember me how many people is needed for kill rank B and A monster? and how many people attack them actually? only rank S are working as intended (partially actually)

at the moment people use means for ignore how the feature was means to be done, we are into a broken system... a failling one actually will be a better wording.

Remove myth and soldiery from hunts, make 1 weekly target kill per week. All the problems solved.

I said nothing about it working as intended or not, because frankly I don't really care at this point as players have made the rules. All I said was that even if 50+ people are swamping an A mark, it's still really easy to get credit if you're there before the pull. And that does happen when hunts are organized. When they're not, everyone misses out on seals they could be getting because people pull earlier and don't share info.

It's not even the best gear...

A mix of that and High Allagan is the "best gear". For jobs like White Mage where the entire left side is practically High Allagan for best in slot, it's even less the case.

Either way, no self respecting coil group would take in a player with full 110 Soldiery gear and 0 High Allagan gear. And walking around in full soldiery gear is the opposite of "leet" lol...

TLDR: Who really cares about them giving away the welfare gear, they did it for 2.1 also. The real raiding gear still requires actually being good at the game.

Yes you need to best fast, because sometimes someone pulls early and everyone burns the mob down within minutes. But usually (at least when I am hunting) people wait 3 minutes, and that's totally enough. Everyone wants people to wait, but that's just not going to work. It's good to be in at least 2 linkshells, helps a lot. Anyways, maybe when the daily bills are increased (soon i hope) people will not complain that much. Hundreds of "Hunting Sucks"-Threads are annoying. SE will do something soon, it is really not needed to create more threads.

Hunts should be like CT. Reward just enough seals that you can get 1 item per week. The daily and weekly hunts should give a bit less than needed so people still hunt besides clearing the daily and weekly objectives. And only your weekly and daily Goals have Myth and Strat as drops. Wouldn't empty the Open World but regulate it maybe to a normal level.

As a white mage, I'm considering not wasting any sands on left side... I do have scholar as well which would love to get unweathered left side, but I almost never use it...
I was going to before 2.3 just so I could dye the daystar set, but then 2.3 arrived with the divine harvest set, and I settled for glamour. Really love that set. Just missing hand and feet pieces now.

As a side-note... Thyrus Novus is within reach! Should be able to complete it tonight :3

Nothing beat Trials roulette for Mytho grind speed and Expert roulette with quest is easiest and fastest way to obtain Mysterious map (and also it provide you with soildiery cap for a week).
Yes, hunts are quite versatile in a number of thing you obtain, but they are nowhere near the most efficient way of doing so, and if you do not need seals anymore, there are no point in hunting, you can do the same with less efforts.

You don't need to do 90% of other content including hunts and dungeons to get even better equip - just do Coil2 and that's all. Ban Coil2 and move half of the stuff elsewhere? Content should reward you, and it's good if it reward you based on dedication and time spent. Hunt is structured to be competitive PvE content, it's assumed that the better you are at competition, the better rewards you got.

Yes, yes. But unfortunately, S rank on 48h respawn timers, have a huge comptetion and you usually will get almost nothing if try to react on its spawn (getting party, getting ported etc).
Instead, you can get 100-200 mytho from 15 mins Trials roulette. I better go to daily hunts and get item in 3 days that go to hunts to get ilvl90, it's too much trouble for such reward.

I don't see how hunting makes "other features pointless". Coil is still much more relevant, farming soldiery/mytho is better do in other places.
Upgrading gear to ilvl90? we have Coil1 for this, very easy to do, requires nothing.

Coil only rewards a few. Why not complain about it? It the same type of content - at this point of time only dedicated will get a loot. As this is a catch-up patch, you only need dedication and not a static party to succeed. Wait for 2.4 when it'll be further scaled down for less dedicated and more casual crowd.

You know, wiping in T9 for weeks is not fun at all also. It creates drama, people leaves, a lot of trashtalks etc. It's just usually enclosed behind the closed doors, it doesn't mean it not exist.
