Request: OPEN WORLD PVP

I do enjoy the new frontlines very much. It reminds me of what AV in WoW back when it was first released. I hope they continue to refine this cross server instanced content.

As much as I love instances PVP, what I'd like to see is open world PVP. I think there's a lot of current mechanics that could benefit from this, particularly shitty gear upgrade progressions that is the ATMA fate grinds. What I envisioned is GC ownership of quadrant of a zone. Contribution to ownership is calculated based on activities done in the zone by all participants (i.e., mob kills, resource gathered, PVP kills, PVP quests, quests, FATE completion, control of towns/outposts, etc. Basically any activity. This should be weighted more for PVP than PVE.).

Score is tallied up at the end of a set period. Once ownership is granted, higher drop rates of shit for all that won ownership of the quadrant. Zone ownership = EVEN higher drop rates of everything, particularly horrible quest items like ATMA and alexandrites and what have you.

I'm approaching this with EVE and Planetside 2 in mind, both of which are awesome games to try out. If not, at least the mechanics that promotes player driven contents.

I'm not sure what you mean by "PVP kills" in the zone. Are you suggesting that everyone should be forced to PVP whether they want to or not?

All out PvP everywhere is just lame and adds nothing to the game. All of what you said equates to you should be rewarded for PvPing over people who dont. PvPing is quite boring. It always has been since the dawn of MMO's. It's always catered to hardcore gamers who spend more real life money on equipment to run the game faster over any real tactical in game skill. To me, its always added little to the experience. Even if you do factions, it always just ends up being chaos and you getting jumped by a roaming gang.

I think being able to op in and op out instead of mandatory is required. So as to avoid these "roaming gangs" #sonofbaldo

Ultimately, I think giving people the OPTION to create their own content is much more cost efficient and sustainable.

Also, the emphasis is ALL activities, with PVP weighted more in the scoring. The purpose is to encourage people to op in on world PVP. But if you'd like, you can still stay neutral and contribute less while questing, leveling, questing, FATEs, hunting, chopping wood, mining rocks, etc.

Nope. That type of community needs to stay exactly where it is - not in FF14.

Opt-in open world PVP would be a good idea. It means that people who just want to go about minding their own business don't have to worry about dying in the world.

But as in everything in the game, SE has to write story for it all. The three factions have an alliance and the only reason we fight at Carteneau is because of the story. If there is open world PVP implemented, there is going to have to be a story and reason behind it. From looking at everything SE has done, they want lore and story behind things :p.

DAoC, Warhammer, and several other games do that. You have the "Frontier" zones where there is PvP and PvP objectives, and then the rest of the world where there is no PvP.
FFXIV would be a lot like the DAoC servers that were "co-op" where all three realms could go anywhere, join any guild etc... but out in the frontier it was Guild vs Guild, or realm vs realm. Those who didn not wish to participate could simple just no go to the PvP area and there was tons of stuff for them to do.
I think an addition of an zone or two that is like that would be awesome. :D

The story could be the along the same lines as frontlines. "fighting for honor to claim the land" something something nothing hostile just good fun.
Maybe implement a relic system like Warhammer & DAoC and give FCs the ability to claim outposts for their Grand Company. The Aligan* artifacts could be held in these outposts giving a bonus to the Grand Company whom holds them. A bonus that is only active in PvP.

Yeah but it's still the same. We will have to wait for SE to be able to work this into the game. A new area would work best, maybe an area of Coerthas or Mor Dhona, since they are the most contested and you don't want to cause trouble in an allied states' land (gaol sentence/death penalty etc).

This would be a good compromise. A zone specific to PVP. However, for the incentive to truly work (up drop rates for things like ATMA, Alexandrites, etc), a worldwide approach is the best case scenario. Unless they actually make those things drop at a reasonable rate. Then zone specific to open world PVP could work too.

What type of community? An OPTION for people to participate in objective based world PVP beyond the set cap of 72 players in an instanced fight? The logic here is voluntary op in. You can still do all the things you want to do now if you choose to. Nothing changed. In its current state, people that enjoyed open world PVP do not even have the option.

Player driven content drives the narrative of the game. If everything is caged and heavily restricted in small scale instances, we'll only get more FATE grinds like Hunt/ATMA chain.

Cold hard truth of "World PVP" is player driven experience. Sure there will be roaming ganks on solo op-ins. But that's an option a player choose to be a part of. That's the risk the player took when they opted in. I argue that anyone should still be able to do all the things they're doing now if they choose to. But if someone wants to take the risk and opt in on getting gank, they have that option.

Whereas currently, that is not even an option. Everyone is opt-ed out by default.

You might as well just to request a PvP server instead of installing a mechanic on a player community origin from PvE. The truth is you are not even going to see a lot of people option in for PvP. This can be reference to WoW's PvE server. It is simply pointless.

WoW's PVE servers were moot because there were no tangible open world objectives nor incentives beyond honor kill. If a component of the mechanic drives gear, story, and/or server wide progression. The incentive to organize and participate would be much more significant.

You keep speaking of a player driven experience, please elaborate. Do you really think players will band together to make it an actual experience other than run around ganking each other and turning a world that is supposed to be visually stunning into non-combatants using dances and emotes to pervertedly (albeit creatively) show their dominance upon a kill?

The PvP isnt even the part I have a problem with. Its the fact that you want to be rewarded for doing PvP by having better drop rates on things. If you want to do PvP thats all well and good, go for it...But why exactly should you be rewarded for it?

Especially considering I'd imagine only a small amount of people would actually take part in a disorganized, pointless gank-fest. Even if you have each faction get an advantage, people are just going to jump to the side that regularly wins.

If its some sort of player driven experience other than you're driven to prove your internet connection and expensive computer are better than everyone elses....I'm just not seeing it, but I'm open to hearing some examples as to how this would improve the game.

Apparently people don't know that there is a little thing called switching to pvp and pve mode...no one is being forced to. Unless you're talking about making a zone where you're instantly in pvp mode the moment you step in it. Now that would be a bad idea.

Totally agreee. Frontlines is way to team based and depends alot on what kind of teams you get as allies. Adding an open world PvP would let us pvp freely and farm marks/exp more independantly.

I wouldn't mind voluntary duels with others, but not flat out open world gankfests.

Stuff like Winterspring or Tol Barad from WoW would be the best bet for this. All out world pvp is stupid though, and if done would require its own servers.

Like, PvP servers are kinda okay in WoW, even with maxes ganking lowbies (which is really annoying and drives lots of people off of them), though I don't think it would work very well in this game.

Botany/Mining/Fishing would be completely impossible, for starters.

Yes please I support open PvP world at least to make PvP gear useful because it is only for vanity at the moment...

I wish they do. PvP is the only thing I care about in the end and long term of a game. To compete against others and have fun doing it. Running dungeons a million times to farm gear can be ok... for so long, but fighting people vs cpu, is a whole different set of skills imo.

Memorizing each stage of boss fights isn't skill. Fighting unique pvp fights with different situations is.

Should have been more specific... more likely optional open world PVP. My definition of open world PVP is non-instanced PVP.

I would like other Scenarios for PvP, and they could even be territorial that already exist, Like Souther Talanan or a Golbet with other buidings.
But they should add some new feature for those areas, like If u control the flag of a Teleport crystal u will able to teleport to that zone.

But don't allow absolutely to do Pvp in the current PvE area, I would that those area become accesible via DF like Frontline, with 72 mans ecc ecc

Very valid point. A completely open world PVP would be very different as it would contain all of the issues you've outlined (e.g., roaming gankfests). However, what I'm proposing here is an open world PVP with option to opt in and opt out (perhaps this is a point I need to reiterate and emphasize some more). Sure there would be roaming ganks, but all parties involved opt-ed in voluntarily. Therefore, risks/rewards are expected.

To your point of player driven experience. PVP roams in itself is a player driven experience. In order to make that better, incentives has to be created to promote participation. An idea say group PVP quests that contributes to point accumulation of an area (ideally, this involve some kind of passing into enemy territory like escorts and the such), or gathering nodes that contains material that can only craft PVP specific gear/vanity items.

Two player driven scenarios I can think of immediately is people escorting quest NPC, gets ganked, rally people to counter gank. OR an FC party/alliance working together to get PVP mats for PVP gear. Patrols by players could also be implemented, of course this would be via daily escort quests with certain planned routes that are randomly allocated to players based on acceptance/death rates in areas.

TL:DR: Open World PVP MUST be opt in/opt out. World PVP must be properly incentivized and dynamically adjusted to promote participation.

FF was never about open world pvp, and never should be. It would just ruin the game period. All I have ever seen in open world pvp is griefing. No thanks keep it out of FF. If that is what you really want, then FF isn't for you.

Care to elaborate why not? It would add more things to do in game and not just sit in town for 6 days a week after finishing coil. People work to get the best gear in game for what? to look pretty and sit in town.
With an open pvp it would encourage people to be more active and competitive with other players.

I am all for this idea. I'm a big fan of PvP and would love to see this enabled. Of course with an option to turn on/off World PvP. This doesn't affect pure PvM players so I don't see why some of them are even posting in this thread.

I would like a PVP that didn't involve killing since FFXIV has so many features that are undervalued.
