The reason I unsubbed was because of ridiculous this quest was
How is it now? still unbearable?
inb4 "I quit because it's too hard" comment is made towards the OP
Nothing has changed.
I finished my Atma quest line and I'm casually doing my Animus books. The quest is pretty much the same except it's easier to get mythos for the books.
It still sucks.
If you push it, you can still get a book or 2 a day and wear yourself out. If you do just the dailies, you can get one every 3. It's not TOO bad but still it would equal up to about a month for all 9.
I guess people have hard time wrappung their head around the concept of "long term content".
Yes you can do 99,9% of quests in a single play session but not this one thing.
You are right to feel this way and yes there is still some pain associated with getting through it. I've put in a suggestion to make dungeons more dynamic so that we aren't playing the same thing hundreds of times to complete our weapon progression.
It's not hard it's very time consuming. I was farming a second set and leaving it my bags ready for the new jobs but seeing as how it's not even gonna be until 2.4 and that not even being until the end of the year. I'd rather have that free inventory space.
It's the same, and if you think that's bad:
For the Novus upgrade, you need to farm 75 alexandrites. To get them, you have to do a special type of treasure map that you can get once per day(most fights are easily soloed, a few will tear you apart in seconds). Assuming you don't fail, you get one from that. They also drop the same way as the atma, but equip an animus weapon instead of a zenith. Once you have alex, you get to start slotting materia onto a special scroll(that also costs 1500 myth to get). They get melded similar to gear, though you don't jump straight to 45% chance of success. The alexandrite takes the place of carbonized matter.
You can put whatever secondary stats you like on the scroll, and for each fourth of the total possible cap for a given stat, you have to start using the next highest grade of materia. This means you will need a minimum of 11 grade 4 crit materia if you wanted to max that on your weapon, for example; and probably a lot more, since you'll be breaking some trying to meld. Then once you finally get the scroll finished with 75 materia glued to it, you get your upgraded weapon with its core stat, VIT, and the secondaries you chose along with a damage upgrade to Lv110-tier. This weapon is not as good as the ones you can get(relatively speaking) more easily by running Coil2.
I have no issue with the long winded nature of this quest. Yoshi said (and I hope it turns out to be true) that the end result will be something that rewards those who have put in the effort and time. So...probably so nice sparkle effect lol. But yeah, I like the journey of this quest...and I like that it's a b*tch to get.
It's funny, when the game launched people were complaining about how easy it was to get the relic weapon. back then we didn't know the true nature of what was to come haha. No so easy now is it!?
If you think about it.
Each book takes 1.5K myth, that's about a little more than 3 hours worth of farming. The book part doesn't take much effort, other than the fate part.
It really isn't all that bad. Though Novus on the other hand is a little bit numbing.
Long term content would be very valid if the end reward is very satisfying and extreme. Currently the relic line is only 2nd best. What's worse is that the relic is a weapon line that is for everyone and it's just about the only option for a casual player. It's not a new set of weapons that screams that this isn't for certain players that enjoy the grind. The other alternative for the same ilvl requires much less work (a 3 week soldiery cap and one round of t6-t8 and in the time you take to cap those solds you can pass the tomes and sands among 3 dps). You can argue that novus would have better secondary stats than the tome weapons but that is seriously way too small of an advantage when compared to the effort load. Hell, in three weeks or so CT2 will be introduced and it's very possible you'll be able to get that i110 tome weapon without ever going to coil and it'll be 3 weeks of sold cap and probably consuming your weekly allotment of CT drops for the tome and sand.
You can argue that the relic line can grow but it'll always grow slower than the item level jumps from coil. Coil going players have no time wait for novus to use it on 2nd coil. Remember, when we first reached lvl 50 we'd have an i55 or i60 and then tackled 1st coil with an i80 weapon or i90, the same weapon level as the allagan weapons until they bumped it to i95. We now start the i115 2nd coil with an i90. The i110 novus and tome weapons would be more in line with what we had as an i90 back then. But since the relic weapons will never be stronger than the latest allagan weapons, and since allagan weapons seem to jump every 20 ilvls, the relics will have 20 ilvls to catch up the moment a new coil increases.
Now look at what we have so far. i90 zenith > i100 atma (still technically i90 > i100 animus (actual damage upgrade) > i110 novus (customization). The amount of effort needed to go up 20 ilvls is simply humongous and it would still take way longer than any other possible new weapon path unless square suddenly decides to stop offering new weapons other than allagan and relic past i115. We have no idea where and when the ilvl increases will stop because yoship abhors horizontal progression so it's possible that the relic will just keep growing to something like i130(coil ends)/150 (some new hardcore 8 man starts)/170/190 or whatever and it'll still never reach the moment where it's the paragon of all weapons of its type.
How can you in good faith say that this will all be worth it in the end?
I don't really understand what you're getting into, you have the opportunity to get a weapon that is slightly below what can be obtained by tackling the game's hardest content, which is always upgradable to one tier below the hardest content in each and every patch and would be the best of that tier because of customizability and you think it's not worth it? Well, what are you going to use the weapon for? Levequests?
Not to mention almost anything you do (aside from atma) will slightly further your progression on each phase of it? Technically with enough dedication you can get it within the first week of it coming out, too. How is this bad? It's not like they force you to do it? But you want epic loot, there you have it, put some effort into it?
Atma is a walk in the park compared to Novus. If atma is too much for you, then you don't want to know about Novus. MMOs are designed to have content that allows players to play for a long time. If you want something short and sweet, either play single player games or online shooters like COD.
Or perhaps the dozen or so other MMO's who managed to toe this line perfectly fine and still make the grind fun and interesting. It doesn't need to be nearly as boring as it currently is.
That said, once you've got Atma the 'grind' does become at least a little more interesting (myth notwithstanding) rather than mindlessly spamming the same low level, no-reward Fates you've been getting tired of since level 30.
As I've said, tome weapon takes less time and less tedious and at the end of it, you only have the secondary stat to compare with. The weapon damage is the same, the primary stat is the same, the vitality is the same, only the secondary stats are different and you probably already know that weapon damage and primary stat is worth much much more than a secondary stat. I feel that any secondary stat advantage (if the tome weapon secondary stats are worthless) is not worth all this trouble players go through. Even if I'm supporting the degree of the grind we currently have, the reward is not justified.
Technically, you can get the i110 tome weapon in 3 weeks after it came out, which was like 2 months ago. i110 novus came out like a week ago. By the time a player gets a novus, he would have probably attained his tome weapon and made use of it for a while. Any sense of boost you get from the animus will be near minimal.
Not only would the HA weapons are more 'epic', it's more fun to put effort into.
This. It's easier to get books faster, just by doing roulettes. Only problem that sucks are the ragequitters on dungeons you need, like Stone Vigil or something :/ Oh and those fates that can take all day. I sat from noon until 9pm at night, Seps did not spawn until 9:45pm -.- It's like camping a nm without a ToD lol
I have not been bored once in the whole quest line, so that's completely subjective and entirely based on your approach to the weapons.
The relic upgrade is something you can (if you love to push a grind hard) do very quickly, or you can do very slowly. Since it started, I'm currently on my 7th Animus book for my first weapon. Some people had finished this within a crazy short time. But really, it's also there for players who don't have the will or time to commit to pushing Coil 2, and these players are naturally going to be taking their time with the whole thing. The overall results are quite nice, but definitely not needed, for a player like myself.
I have yet to do any Coil, so I'm as far from an i100 tome weapon as I am the i110 version. I'll likely have my Novus before I even get to having such a weapon - in fact, I'd be getting a tome weapon for a different job than my main. Not everyone is capable (for many reasons) of just hopping into Coil and getting their weapons from there. But for those who can do that, they have already had access to better weapons and those are there for those players. The Novus is something that hardcore grinders can get pretty quickly (probably just as quick as beelining for an i110 tome weapon), or that casual/midcore players can simply progress towards. And this lets the latter type keep up over a longer period of time, assuming they keep up with it.
Indeed. Instead of doing dailies, aside from the trial one, you'd probably make more myth just spamming Brayflox. So in reality, it may be easier for the people who don't wanna burn themselves out (hopefully the majority), but the fastest/most efficient way to get myth hasn't changed. And I still have other things I'd rather spend 1500 myth on. =/
Just got my atma like 2 days ago, what I wanna know is does the stats increase after every book I complete or do all books have to be complete to get a stat increase?
No, it's not hard. It would be best to get them in your own pace. If u want to get them out of the way quick u can, but you'll burn out faster. I don't mind it, after all it was expected for MMOs.
I am doing the atama grind now and I did my first round of fate grinding for about 5 to 6 hrs and I haven't gotten anything yet.
Its still bad op and your actaully better off wiping and getting involved with a static on turn 6-9 especially turn 7. If you start now by the time you get around to beating coil turn 8 your relic novus will STILL NOT BE DONE and you'll probably have a ilvl 110 weapon by then especially if your a dps.
Of course not everyone is cut out for coil so to be fair, you might have to stick with the grind. Only hope for you then is that eventually the amount of myth we get from instances will go up just like philo tomes did back in 2.0 - 2.1
Me personally, I kinda gave up on the weapon and am just taking daily pokes at it since I'm slated to win a tomestone eventually in my static.
Stay unsubbed please.
Not very hard never was just has the potential to be time consuming if you are unlucky.
I'm not saying Atma farming isn't annoying to me too but I did want the game to have long term content and now it's here. Too bad the implementation just rewards luck over patience.
I'm the kind of guy who thinks Lu'Shang quest was epic.
Truth be told I liked fishing for 3years to get one item more than this. At least I knew I was making progress. But all in all some long-term content IS better than none at all.
This wouldn't be that bad if something like turning excess soldiery into myth happened. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to make everything that doesn't drop myth or gear upgrades near worthless after capping soldiery.
Dynamic long grind over time yea np. Stupid boring do the same thing everyday grind no. I have my animus and working on my novus atm for pld sword and shield. Doing it and still think it's boring as hell.
