Same tanks who are tanking them now. The DPS queue will simply get longer while they run quests, leves, fates, etc.
And new tank/heals classes will be in the expansion, as they said in the live letter. As for who will tank for them, (as Viviza said) the same ones doing it now for the insta-queues and bonus rewards.
Sometimes my queue might take a minute at like lunch time EST. I suppose that won't be an issue any more.
Even if they introduced a new tank/heal the que will still probably get slanted. DPS are gonna want to run the new classes quick but tanks are still gonna stick with people they know and not solo que due to problems we have already established with the community. By introducing each class separately they can at least try to force people to level individually instead of making their own inclusive parties.
SE, I would like to thank you for this. I was really considering filing a huge complaint. More than twice I have had to wait over 30 seconds to get a Duty on my PLD AND WHM. This, as you can imagine, is in no way acceptable. With the addition of the Rogue and Ninja that has been solved.
I thank you for your pro-activeness in this matter.

Where is my gunner? Where? ;_;
I remember when Arcanist came out ...and Carbuncles were everywhere.
Now everyone will be in stealth!
I'm still confused how musketeer isn't ready?
Is it just the guild they've made, I thought the class was started on but just hadn't been ready for launch?
Fact is, I'm pretty sure releasing new tanks/healers wouldn't do much to increase the permanent population of tanks/healers in the game.
Sure leveling-dungeon queues might go down temporarily. But people that haven't leveled a tank/healer class for dungeon queues already probably aren't going to pick one up on release of a new variety.
So much this. The people that say "our current tank/heal classes suck, if we had a new one I'd play it" are the type that are going to pick up the new class, level it to 15 or 20 and go "omg this is haaaaaaaaard this class sucks" and then drop it like a bad habit. Tank (and healer to a lesser degree) just isn't a very appealing role for most players; it seems like there's too much effort and responsibility tied up in it for them to really enjoy it.
Didn't Arcanist came out at the same time than the other ones?
It's just - Carbuncles! That you will enjoy as class, to never make them shine again once you get a job..
Kids, don't get into the JOBs payroll, it's a trap!
*goes into stealth mode (poof!) <-- sound fx
While I'll still be using my tank for my daily Expert roulette, don't expect my WAR/PLD to be doing much content other than coil raids in 2.4.
I'll be busy leveling my NIN (along with many many many other players).
This is really ridiculous, SE needs to introduce a full set of new Tank/DPS/Healer if they don't want to imbalance the role ratio.
I'll only be temporarily but still ...
The reason for the lack of tanks and healers isn't because of a lack of variety (though I'm sure it'll help a little), it's the community. I simply refuse to tank unless it's with a group of friends.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.
This pretty much sums it up.
I play all jobs except for ranged caster dps. Melee/ranged feel free. Healing can get intens endgame (2nd coil) or ex primals if your party average ilvl is just above the recommended one. However the 4 man content feels free for my healer too. Tanking on the other hand takes much more effort. I can't quite explain why, it just feels that way everytime I duty roullete expert or do some other 4 man content.
People feel they are working for others when they tank which makes it less appealing to do.
I love tanking since I decide what pace we'll be going and I know I wont mess up. Nothing more frustrating when you join as dps but the tank is slacking for some reason. Communication sometimes kills 4 man content, we might do a better job at that.
I don't like hitting up low level roulette on my tank because there's several dungeons I'm not all that familiar with. I've run them, but not repeatedly and to the point where I feel like I'm good at them. The same goes for high level roulette; now that I can high-level roulette in a party, I go with my FC and they help me along through the dungeon if needed. They don't mind helping me learn. Randoms, however, would likely have nothing but vitriol.
I do feel a lot more "free" as a healer/dps but I honestly do love tanking with people that are willing to help me learn. I just... don't like tanking for the majority of the asshats that are kicking around in the Duty Finder.
Prebuild a party with an arcanist and 3 rogues and I'm sure you could get to level 30.
while I'm crazy hanging for a rogue/ ninja .. i would have preferred to have both a rogue job and ninja job .. i feel rogue in itself would have made for a really nice job to play on its own merits.. i can't see why SE is adding more dps to an already over crowded market so to speak.. they seem to scream we need more tanks throw incentives at tanks roulette favours tanks/healers and the tanking special mounts .. there own stats say the game lacks tanks.. yet the hand us a dps class .. it then begs to question what job/class will they make the musketeer? i really hope the make it dual wielding ranged dps not some sort of messed up tank class!! but then more dps!!!
Well, I am one of those who like the insta-queue, mainly made my PLD for no other reason...
When i heard of the Ninja I was all about "go for it", but on a second thought, I look in a future of 90% Ninjas running around the server...
depends on how good/bad balanced they are, that´s a train where many will hop on IMHO...
DPS classes have to wait upwards of a half hour to get into a Duty Finder quest because everybody and their brother wants to be DPS. There are far more users who main DPS than Tank.
So what does Square do? The obvious thing, of course. Introduce a cool new DPS class! The people who have every job at lvl 50 and main Tank will certainly begin leveling Ninja to 50 from the day it's released.
Fewer tanks. Longer DF times. Thanks Square.
I will level it up just like every other class just so i can be a better tank.
ofcourse they introduce a dps first, its common sense
yes you want them to introduce tank first to lower your q-time a bit, but the majority of their players are dps, and what does a games company have to do to stay alive.. make the majority happy..
Does it really matter? People will get it to 50 in a week then go back to whatever their main is. Either play a different class for a week or do something else.
They already said in the e3 interviews that while there is a gun class coming and 1+ more jobs, that the timing is too early to reveal everything. They said the final lineup for classes & jobs being added would be announced in upcoming events, such as JP expo, gamescon and possibly even the October Fan Festival.
I'll Tank for People Levelling them.. and level it while someone else is Tanking for me... Being in a FC and Doing that is good... Yeah i Guess Roulette's gonna be a Pain but Still.
I'm hoping the gun class is a chemist or something like that. Another healer would be nice.
I agree this change seems fun in the short-term, but in the long term it is only going to make the dps ques longer and make it harder for dps to find raid groups in the scob. What they need is a new tank/healer class. I'll admit I don't find tanks or healers particularly fun; tanks mainly because it seems like you need to know a fight inside and out to be successful at it. I don't want to do a fight over and over again to learn when exactly I should press a certain move to decrease damage and I certainly don't like positioning bosses in some fights. It feels like I'm just a punching bag basically.
As for healer, that seems even less fun than tanking to me. It seems like you just spam click your party members on the party menu when you see some green drop and click mostly the same heal button over and over again, occasionally casting esuna when someone gets a status debuff or a aoe heal when needed.
The dps que's are seperate between ranged and physical so if this takes blms, beds and smn onto a physical dps. Lowering ranged ques. I'm happy.
I think if the game had more interesting and dynamic Tanking classes people would be more willing to give em a try. I main Pld and ... we have one acceptable combo end game and only the last part of it is pretty to look at. Hell, I'm leveling towards War cause at least there's more complexity and such there.
So yeah, of the 2 classes we have one isn't bores- vill to look at/ play ... and now we get a dsp class that's flashy as all hell?
IDK, I think visuals are a big deal to people and at the end of the day we all just want our characters to look and feel like bad asses. Making more interesting to "play and look at" tank classes could go a long way towards making getting more people to try tanking. I mean, if Ninja had been a tanking class then I'm sure we would still see no shortage of Ninjas running around.
But even this part of the forum can't seem to agree on what a new class could or should do. "Oh, you would just be wasting a weapon to make a tank with more ranged threat attacks!/ A pet class tanking? That would be too complex/ A dodge tank? that class would either be broken or weak as hell for end game/ A melee tank that does xyz? That's just a retread of WAR ..." IDK wut to expect but I hope they go with a more interesting angle and what we have.
When 2.4 hits the Queue is going to take ages for dps, I reckon might be seeing people do Fates more often again.
Well, that's only HALF right.
Yes, PLD is boring. Yeah, boring to look at and play ... but TANKING is fun as heck to me! PLD was my first because my friends who got me to play this game partly did it so that I could learn how to tank and tank for them. They told me that for End Game PLD was better and more desired and I believed them.
Now that I know more I'm moving on to leveling War (which may be less of a bore but still not TOO much better).
If you have 50% of the Tank classes in this game be a bore to play/ look at then it should be no small wonder as to why more people don't do it. It's a role that's not meant for everyone ... but having a fun and interesting class would surely help bring in more people who are willing to stick with it.
yea dps que does take longer than tank/heals. I use that time to work on crafts.Funny thing for all the rants about dps que ,most of the time that df keeps resets when I'm que for stuff is from a dps not commencing
Thats because dps felt sleep waiting :p
And yeah improving tanks both visually and gameplay wise could go a long way to entice ppl to play that roles more
Some jobs need updated skill animations, look at bard ouside aoe skills everything feels the same, smn isnt any better...
My main is PLD. I love em. He is stronk turtle. He is what I use on progression and when learning new things.
My WAR, is for balls out fun tanking. RaWr, john effing madden, et. etc. after I have learned the content and working on farm, or if my PLD isn't needed.
I enjoy both of them. Interesting to see what is to come.
Well I'll be one of the few people leveling their tank classes during 2.4... atm working on mrd/war then will work on gld/pld so there will be some of us enjoying those insta queues for leveling up.
