Dungeon Blacklist (Suggestion)

Have you ever found yourself doing the same dungeons day after day in Duty Roulette? Well, I know I have! For example, I've gotten Copperbell HM several days in a row for my daily roulette.

I think it would be cool if a blacklist function were to be added to duty roulette. One dungeon we can opt out of. Maybe make it so we can only change it once per week. That way, if we get sick of a different dungeon, or want some variety, we could choose to opt out of a different dungeon (or the same one) every week. I think as long as roulette still had a minimum of 3 dungeons to pull from, this would be a great feature. Might even get some people to stop insta-quitting if they get something they don't like in roulette.

(Forgive me if this thread exists elsewhere. I've never seen this idea suggested before.)

While a decent idea it is, most -if not all- of my black list is currently occupied with the names of many Gil Sellers that have spread their offers to me, only to land on that list.
Plus, I am not sure if SE even bothers with adding or increasing more slots for the names you can list up. :/

While a nice idea, it is fundamentally against why they implemented the roulette to begin with.

You could just, I don't know, not use Roulette?

@ Arrius, I don't mean in the actual blacklist. It would be like a checkbox in the duty list to exclude a dungeon from roulette.

@ Kerberon, the term "roulette" suggest to me some level of random-ness. I have never seen any indication that Duty Roulette is random. It's first implementation saw nothing but Sastasha for everyone in the low level roulette. It hasn't gotten much better. Excluding dungeons BECAUSE WE'RE SICK OF DOING THEM does not defeat the purpose of roulette at all. I also stated "as long as there are 3 dungeons to pull from" which has always been the case for roulette anyway (with the exception of Story Mode). I am sick of Copperbell HM every day. That's like oatmeal for breakfast every day. Blech.

@ Nalien, Sure, I'll stop using roulette when they get rid of the 1-time bonuses. The function is garbage. They have to bribe players to use it. Doesn't that suggest that perhaps it's flawed?

I like this idea. It means I could finally get something other than Cutter's Cry on my low-level roulette.

The point as I understand it is that low level roulette was implemented to have more players in the low level queue for players that were just starting. Sastasha every time may just mean that there are people repeatedly single option queueing for that dungeon. This may be to farm gear to "twink" or new players in story mode.

The entire point of the roulette is to fill in areas that are missing for other parties. Being able to choose what to play defeats the point.

No. Exactly as the name suggests, it's a gamble. That's the whole point of the system, you don't get to pick what you end up doing. The system, and it's "bribe", isn't even meant for you, it's meant for people who need that content done. It's bribing you into doing whatever so you can help new players get content done, not so you can take the bribe.

If you don't want to unwillingly help new players, don't use the system.

I personally don't really mind getting Tam-Tara for the millionth time, but on a similar note, it would be really nice if Duty Roulette excluded dungeons that you haven't already manually queued for once before. As I've been leveling up, I've inadvertently unlocked a couple of the optional instances without really feeling ready to tackle them in a DR setting...and have felt underprepared when placed into it for the first time via Roulette, which I think isn't fair to the group.

It would be awesome if they could add a condition to DR to wait until you've manually checked the box to run a given dungeon one time prior to including it in the list of available random results. Once you've run it once on your terms, then it gets put into the list for all future Roulette adventures.

But it was openly admitted that when everyone was getting Sastasha it was due to an error in how roulette worked. People didn't actually "need" Sastasha. DR was putting them there because it was buggy. You know what their "fix" was? Among other things, they took Sastasha out of DR (or at least I've never gotten it, but I get Tam-tara quite a lot).

I actually DID notice for a while that my roulettes would frequently put me in parties for people who needed the dungeon. Ironically, it was people needing dungeons for their Atma books, nothing to do with new players.

For the rest of you who replied, explain to me how everyone can possibly need Copperbell HM or Tam-tara SO BADLY that I get them consistently every single day?

I don't see how allowing us to omit ONE dungeon per week out of all the dungeons, instances, and raids is worth arguing against my suggestion? It would hardly take away from players in need so drastically as to ruin DR entirely. It would be optional, and it would also be very likely that each individual player choosing to use the blacklist/omit function would be choosing something different. There would still be many players able to fill in all the dungeons. We'd all just be a little happier to do it, not having to do Tam-tara for the umpteenth time. Sounds to me like you're all just trolling.

Sigh, getting called a troll because I don't believe that bugs are a reason to demolish the whole concept which is what you are asking for.

You're getting put into those dungeons because other people are queueing up for them, and their group was at the top of the matching list when your turn came up to be slotted into a group. The reason people are doing those dungeons is sort of irrelevant; people are trying to queue for them, and the roulette system is helping fill those groups up. Allowing you to "opt-out" of a certain dungeon or influence what you get matched into in any way goes against the whole reason that it exists. (For example, Stone Vigil would probably get pretty heinous queue times, because a huge number of people would opt out of it for their low-level roulette.)

Do I enjoy Duty Roulette? No. That's why I rarely use it (only when I'm bored enough). I'd much rather enjoy tomestone farming with friends, which certainly isn't difficult, and the Gil is laughable in the grand scheme of things.

You effectively want the system to work for you, when it isn't meant to. It's there to reduce queue times of people who want to do that content. You're taking the bribe to help them do that content. If you don't want to do that content, don't take the bribe, it's that simple. Having it both ways (taking the bribe without helping Copperbell ever) would completely undermine the system in place.

It's been said already but the entire point of the Duty Roulette is to bribe you into helping other people complete the content that they need, rather than you just picking the content that would otherwise be your first choice. Being able to pick and choose what content you're eligible to get in Roulette would 100% defeat the purpose of it existing at all.

Please explain to me how allowing each player to omit ONE dungeon/instance from the roulettes (and being able to change them weekly or so for variety) would "demolish the whole concept"

I guess I'm missing what roulette is about? Isn't it for variety? Isn't it to fill slots in dungeons for players in need? Not getting the same thing every day? I fail to see how everyone needs THE SAME INSTANCE so badly and *ONLY I CAN HELP THEM*. Maybe I want to help out people in a different place for a change? AS THE TERM ROULETTE IMPLIES.

Not really.

I'm sure players need help in dungeons other than Copperbell HM and Tam-Tara. I'd like to help those people, too. I enjoy roulette when It's not the same exact dungeon every day. Believe it or not, but I like helping other people get things accomplished.

Roulette is about getting an additional reward in exchange for agreeing to do content you might not want to do, but that other people need help with. If Copperbell comes up, that means someone needed help with Copperbell. If Tam-Tara comes up, that means someone needed help with Tam-Tara. And by queuing for Roulette you signed up to help them.

If you just want to pick a specific dungeon to do, then just pick that dungeon and ignore the Roulette. That's really all there is to it.

The point you seem to be missing is that you seem to think that everyone would blacklist each dungeon to an equal extent, and so magically continue to fill needed parties for unpopular dungeons within a reasonable time. That's just not realistic in the slightest. unpopular dungeons would become ghostlands and people who need them for quests would never get to do them, thus defeating the whole purpose of Roulette (as has been pointed out to you, repeatedly. It seems to be you that is missing the point, not everyone else).

No, they didn't take Sastasha out of DR. It's still part of it. They just fixed the bug which originally made it get selected without specific reason for selecting it.

It only looks at whether someone queued specifically for that dungeon. Of course, new players who need it to continue the storyline are a major reason why SE is concerned about making sure those queues can be filled, but everyone trying to queue for a dungeon, whatever their reason, is given the same benefit.

If it was limited to only being able to omit the dungeon you ran last, that might work. It would still help solve the issue with getting tired of repeatedly getting the same one, without running the risk that everyone would omit the same dungeon and that one couldn't fill queues. But being able to choose whichever one you want and permanently omit it would leave open the problem that DF was put there to solve.

[EDIT: By "the dungeon you ran last" I mean the one you completed last. If it excluded the one you last entered or were assigned by DR, it could exacerbate the issue with people leaving as soon as the dungeon loads.]

No, Yes, and No.
It's not for variety and has nothing to do with getting or not getting the same thing every day. If you want variety, you can select a dungeon of your choice and pick a different one every day. That has always been available and didn't need a Roulette feature to provide it. Roulette was put in in order to make sure that all of the dungeons can get a full group whenever somebody needs them.

I think this is the missing link. This is what is needed. I do my low-level roulette once a day. I have gotten Cutter's Cry 3 days in a row. That's what bothers me. This way, I would get Cutter's Cry on Tuesday, something else on Wednesday, and maybe Cutter's again on Thursday. That's not nearly as bad as getting it every day. And I think it still maintains the integrity of the roulette.

Russian Roulette would be pretty boring if everyone could just blacklist the loaded cylinder.

I could maybe get behind them adjusting the system so repeat instances become less likely the more you do them, but out right blocking an instance is foolish, as most people gladly see.

Honestly, if you're tired of Copperbell all the time, just take a break from doing Roulette. You don't have to do them every single day. I was in the exact same position, now I do Roulettes for Challenge Log and boredom only. When I get Copperbell, I probably didn't do it yesterday, so it's better (plus I'm bored anyway). When I don't get Copperbell, hey I didn't get Copperbell! Great!

Many of you have raised some good points.

Shame on those of you whose tone comes off as condescending. I really appreciate being talked to like I'm a child. I hope your egos feel better for your effort. I'm fully aware of how DR works and what it's intended to do.

I still disagree that allowing us to personally opt out of one particular instance would necessarily defeat the purpose. Think of how many people rage quit a roulette because they didn't like what they got? I suppose there's nothing wrong with that at all, right? Working as intended.

Those of you who suggested that perhaps DR can simply omit the last dungeon you did (like yesterday's meatloaf) this is a wonderful suggestion. I would be happy to see this implemented, if nothing else.

Oh, and maybe have the bonus removed for people who rage quit a dungeon at the start because "It wasn't the one they wanted". Maybe I should have titled my thread:

"Remove Once A Day Bonus for those who rage quit within the first 15 minutes of a dungeon" or somesuch. Seems long-winded. Wouldn't be surprised if such a thread exists.

This idea is against the purpose of DR.

And FYI, DR in the first days was bugged on the first 3 dungeons because it was Qing anyone with anyone, so there were often 4 people using DR together, Qed for the 1st dungeon available (sastasha, the if full tam-tara and then if full copperbell). After the fix (or at least for me since the fix, with 4 DR everyday), there is always at least one pesonne who Qed for the dungeon not using roulette, so its purpose is restored...

I think the issue with a dungeon blacklist is that there are some dungeons that are almost universally disliked. Toto-rak and Aurum Vale come to mind. Toto-rak is a dungeon required for the story, though. If a lot of people refused to run it, then people trying to progress their story would have a much harder time getting a group. Thus, I think the suggestion of not having the same dungeon two days in a row is a better solution.

If you are tired of a particular dungeon and don't want to run it - how about going into DF, selecting a bunch of dungeons that you do want to run, and seeing which pops up first. The point of the matter is

a) You shouldnt go into roulette. Roulette means just that random, random in this game has some mechanics, for dungeons roulette it is determined with what needs to be filled in order to allow low-level players /new players not yet 50lvl players to complete it and advance, if Sastasha is the most demanded when you click *roulette* then it is where you are going to end up, you in a way participated to determine your own random, by clicking in that instant where the dongeon that needed you was Sastasha. Nobody forced you to go there, and click it at the instant you did click. So if we wanted to be right up to the end, YOU decided you wanted to go into Sastasha without you being aware that you did....(i know too hard to understand)

b) DR isnt there for you, you are passed that level already, you are well above that level in some cases, so what you do is a good action by helping others. If you find this too much for you, as your posts lead to believe, then maybe you shouldnt ever again press DR and concentrate only on choosing your own dungeons, multiple choice is possible within the same list you will then join one of those you have chosen, which would mean narrowing down the choice of dungeons you want, of course you dont get any rewards as such for doing.


c) Rewards are there for those people that went out of their way and took out of their free gaming time some of it to help others. I am sure you do not want to be filling the list of selfish elitists people that populate this game...or maybe you want, and is why you made this suggestion (of course I am assuming but then again your posts lead me to this conclusion)

d) in the end, roulette may be random but when you make a decision knowing in advance the conditions then there is no reasons to complain thereafter. If you cant live with the choice you made, where everything is known in advance, I am sorry but you might want to re-evaluate your ways. Not to mention that this game allows you to not be bothered by runing into 10000000x same dungeons since you can decide what you want to do...of course no rewards...

e) everything has a price, you help you get one you dont help you dont get any..cant have both right ?


Conclusion : Blacklisting dungeons is totally useless and would defeat the purpose of the DR (i think this has been said at nauseum)
