Any idea how does it work? Tier V materias or something special?
:p
Facetiously, I think it turns dungeon equipment into status effect materia.
OK, it sucks, from reddit:
Regarding Materia transmutation, because SE's translators just love removing details.
After completing the below quest, hand Mutamix 5 unwanted materias to transmuate into a random materia.
At least I have another option for those tier IV element resist materias now....
Well done, 2.25 did nothing like 2.15/2.16
Any idea if that would be a random materia from the same tier, or if this means that a tier IV could potentially be turned into a random materia from any tier? Seems kind of useless if what you say is true.
At least, I get to free up some storage space,...
Well one of my FC mates turned in 5 elemental I's and got a random Teir I. He tried 5 elemental IIs and got a random Teir II. He did 2 Is, 2 IIs and a III and got an elemental I. He then tried 5 elemental IV and got a heavens eye IV. 4 teir IIIs and a I gave him a teir III. So it seems it will either give you the average of the Teirs or it selects a random teir of what you put in.
So all those people that bought out the tier Is are boned cause they will probably only get more tier Is
Playing around with it a bit, so far it seems like it's based on average grade of the materia used (e.g. 5 grade I will give you a random materia of grade I or II whereas 3 III and 2 II can give you grade II or III). Chance of upgrading is fairly small.
Wow, this is possibly the most useless new system I have ever seen in my years of MMOs. Thanks, Square, for driving up the price of the elemental and tier I materia that I (used to, back when I could afford to) and everyone else use to spiritbond. Less bonding = fewer high tier materia = higher prices across the board in every tier. Did you perhaps feel that the 500k most crafting\gathering Tier IVs are going for after the patch was not high enough?
I played around with a hoard of grade 4 elemental materia I've had forever since it was worthless , I got a varity of other grade 4 materia... it seemed to be the same randomness as getting materia by soulbinding
Wow, thanks SE! I wake up to find all grade 1 materia selling at double the prices they were when I went to bed, and with far less on the board than before too! My days of buying grade 1 materia for spiritbonding are over now, and I sure as hell am not going to use up the ones I had already stockpiled for this useless feature. I mean, hello? Transmutation already exists in the game, and in a far better format than this silliness. It's called selling the five materia you don't want on the mb and buying the one you want with the profits.
The way this SHOULD work is that you turn in five materia and are given two options: You can either pick which specific materia you want that is of the same grade as the average of the five OR you can take a chance and get a random materia that will always be 1 grade higher than the average grade of the five. And hey, if you turn in five grade IV materia, Mutamix will give you a random grade V materia. Make this something somebody would actually have any reason to do, please.
People still use materia?
Of course materia prices go up because demand for crap materia increases.
Seriously, give it three days (or less) for people to realize what a stupid lottery system this is, prices will normal out.
It's not fixed to the respective pools like SBing is however, any IV will get you any IV, but SBing limits you to getting crafting materia from craft gear, gathering from gathering etc (aetheryte rings excluded obv).
To me it seems like they're trying to shift the balance of wealth away from the craft SBers, while providing greater reward for generating materia across all levels.
It's a little ironic that a system like SBing which utilizes RNG is the most stable method of generating wealth via crafting.
This patch only serves to (perhaps temporarily) drive up base costs for us, but benefits the ones SBing battle-type materia as they've now an outlet for the elemental III/IVs.
With the previous patch that saw a relatively high minimum NPC price for all materia added, direct result was 3-4x price hike compared to prepatch prices. Still workable, but forcibly designates a higher amount to the users generating all the crap materia we use in bulk. I don't think it stimulated activity like they'd perhaps hoped though? Which is why we now see this weird materia transmutation system, which only really seems useful for elemental IVs, perhaps IIIs. Everything else is mostly in the bracket where, as others mentioned, it would be more profitable to just MB them.
As for tier Is being high atm, I'm content to just sell them off in bulk at absurdly high prices, and wait for it to normalize a week or so down the line.
man, there goes my spirit bonding for crafting. Hopefully this will even out when people lose interest.
I only foresee this causing a higher per sub mat crafting price as less people will be willing to sell for a lower price than before and take it out there since these markets have tended to have already been flushed out over the months with who really acts in them or not
Nope, it's not.
It's already double. It'll triple and quadruple as the next waves of advantage-seekers start putting up new materia before the fad passes. Then it will probably "normalize" back to still being twice what it was a month ago. Which is still far too rich for my blood.
I'm really starting to get tired of this game obsession with RNG... First the "fabulous" atma drops rates, and now the materia transmutation outcomes...
So, we go in, trade a heap of materia and get random materia back, which most often than not serves no purpose (elemental). Wohooo... gamechanging! #not...
Other than the artificially inflating the price of low level materia it did nothing to fix the overpriced high level crafting materia problem, so there's really not much point to doing this whole transmutation deal.
Dissapointing at best.
lol all these people complaining and getting mad about the prices of grade 1 materia as though they've suddenly been slapped with some ludicrous price tag they'll never be able to afford. You guys make it sound like SE kicked your dog or something. Get real.
That said though, I don't like how gimmicky this new transmuting deal is either. I suppose it's nice if you spend a lot of time spiritbonding things and you wind up with junk when you convert the gear, but relying solely on RNG for anything worthwhile is no good. It's too gamey to make it anything to be excited about.
It's not just even more RNG, it's a worse RNG than just soulbinding normally because it completely removes the item-specific materia limitations on what you can roll. There is literally no purpose for it. It's useless. It's less than useless, it's a huge waste of time pretending to be some kind of massive improvement. It's insulting.
Stop fixing your crappy RNG problems by adding even more, even crappier RNG problems into the game, Square. Stop it.
While we are this topic. Please increase HQ gathering percentage from 15% to about 100%. With my RNG luck I hardly get hq materials
