being able to send mail to characters on the same account!
Seriously, all you folks at SE, you are bringing to this game lots of great new content and features that make this gem shine all the brighter, but the restrictions you have placed on in-game mail messages border on the ludicrous.
What is so dangerous about being allowed to send mail to our mates in our Free Companies without being on their friends' lists? What is so horrific about being able to send mail to other characters of our own on our own accounts on the same server?
Please, let us send mail to ourselves. Please, let us send mail to our Free Company mates without having to send a friend request to the several hundred characters on our FC Member List.

I heard someone speculate once that this ban on being able to send messages to the characters we have the greatest need in communicating with has something to do with making life difficult for the RMT trolls. I sincerely hope that is NOT the real reason -- if it is, then you folks at SE are FAILING MISERABLY at it. I can assure you that since none of my FC friends and none of my characters are RMT trolls that any efforts in this area are doomed to failure.

The thing is that we don't have ANY microtransactions in FFXIV ... yet, to be sure ... but gutting the functionality of a principle aspect of the Internet since back in 1970 or so hardly seems the place to begin. Minions for fantasyBuck$? Outfits that have no combat or crafting use so it's not pay-to-win-with-fantasyBuck$? Sure ... what Pay2play game out there doesn't have pets and costumes as things you can buy?
The ability to talk to yourself or your guildies? That's a bit of a stretch.
Being able to buy more retainers? THAT I can see. -

Agree, i doubt it would take much to allow us to add our alt characters to our friends list.
Of course as other have said they won't do this now because they expect us to pay for retainers. -

I want this too.
And I missed out on the exploit pre-2.1 that let you friend characters on the same account. Even though my mates in the FC don't mind me trading an item to them to pass on or using the company chest, I still look at it as an unnecessary bother. -

If you can only be send Mail by FList people you can remove him immediately to not be spammed again.
But if one of your FC buddies gets hacked, you'll have to kick him so that his char doesn't bombard you with spam mails. You could just simply kick him, yes. Just like you could just simply add him to your Flist so that you can exchange mails.
Really it's not a big of a deal...
Now i agree that there should be a Chest in our Inn that is linked with every char we create.
But I guess SE's only looking at numbers and the numbers seem to indicate that most players stick to 1 character.
And why should you be able to transfer items to other characters if you only have one?
Cmon, there are more important things to address than not being able to send mail to yourself or others without being in a Flist. -

I would prefer the option to add people to your friends list even when they aren't online, as that would at least allow me the option of sending mail to my friends in my FC who simply aren't online at the same time as me. I have to go out of my way to get online at odd hours just so I can add people to my friends list.

I can see how SE might have a privacy concern about spammers getting their hands on public information that would allow them to harass us even more than they do. Assuming that limiting a player's mail recipients to their Friends list is because Friends lists are private. After all, all a spammer needs to do is right-click on someone that is in a FC, look at their FC's Profile and ... oh, wait. Free Company profiles do not give out member lists. Member lists of Free Companies are private to those in the company. So unless someone is selling lists of members of Companies ... well, even then, those would be kind of useless. And I doubt that the gil spammers will make much headway in the "Send out these mails to your FCmates and we will give you $1Mil gils totally hidden don't worry you won't get banned" department if SE started allowing us to mail people in our FCs. So much for that.

Now, a list of all my characters ... where might that reside? On my .... ACCOUNT, perhaps? Look, if Bioware with their next-to-worthless mail system can figure out how to allow people to send mail to alts on the OPPOSITE FACTION without having them friended or whatever, and if SE can manage writing a complete gaming engine from the ground up in under three years ... well, you might see the cause of my disbelief that "mailing characters on your own account" be problematic for them.
If SE can't keep our account information private even from ourselves .. . wait, no, we NEED to know our account info. So what's the problem here? -

As long as crafted tradable gear doesn't reach endgame standard, I don't see how rmt even exists in this game. Really, what are people buying gil for? Primals runs? Housing? I don't get it.
OT: What about placing items in FC chest and withdrawing them on your other alt to use on that characters retainers? Or even getting a friend to help with transferring? -

It's a little inconvenient but not impossible still.
Server stability, Class balance, PvP balance, PvE difficulty, Boss designing, Dungeon designing, Gil obtain rate/difficulty and Quality of Life. There is my priority list with server stability being my 1st.
Like if I get stuck and can't play cause Odin's trolling around I could kill an SE staff but not being able to send stuff via mail to someone because he's not in my Flist ? Meh.
But again, it's just me, I'm not bothered by stuff like this. -

The post you're replying to specifically says we should be able to send mail to other members of the same free company without first friend-listing them. That would let you mail to alts (edit: providing they are in the same FC) without friending them but would still keep gil sellers from mailing you. Unless the gil seller is in your FC, in which case they should either be kicked or told to improve their account security.Quote:
