Just had an experience with the Dark Devices FATE where we spent a good 7 or 8 minutes whittling down the last boss only for a player to come in at the last 5% and Provoke her and pull her out of range so that she reset.
This isn't the first time something like this has happened and unfortunately I didn't happen to get a look at the player who did it but this seriously needs to be addressed in some way.

Wanna know what happens when I Provoke a FATE boss?
Nothing.
You get "Fully Resisted" when you try to Provoke a mob not your own tag. Have tested this on a number of FATEs. Boss FATE mobs seem especially resistant to Provoke.

The OP is half right, there is a bug that causes Milbur to run away and reset herself however it is NOT provoke. Not sure what causes it to happen but I've seen it myself.

Ok, perhaps you aren't lying, but looking at this from an outside perspective I do see inconsitencies in your story.
Provoke only adds 1 enmity over the rest, a single hit from someone with establshed enmity on the mob should have no problem getting it back with an action of their own so it is highly unlikely that someone came running in at the last 5% just to run off with it.
It had to be someone that already had a lot of agro on the mob.
You say you have no name of the culprit, another inconsistency.
If you target the mob you can see exactly who the mob is targeting, and that will be your culprit.
You will have to forgive us cynical bastards for not believing you that easy.
Now here's my more plausible theory:
Someone that already had a considerable amount of accumulated enmity saw that the mob was near dead, thus the FATE nearly ending, and saw on the map that another FATE had spawned close by.
He or she starts running towards there not realizing that they had the agro and accidentally drags the mob out of its zone and resets it. -

Bosses that randomly target people with spells will run after those people if they try to leave before the fate is finished. Anyone who fate grinded while the lightning fate was going on would've seen the dreadnaught/chaos demon chasing after random people from a mile away.
Player x sees fate boss is almost dead.
Player x sees that another fate is up.
Player x sprints off to do the other fate.
Fate boss happens to target player x with Void Fire II.
Fate boss dashes after player x in order to get in range for the cast.
Fate boss reaches boundary and gets yanked back. -

Provoke really doesn't work on fate Monsters, i tried it on a Boss only a week ago (a black mage was tanking) and it didn't work, had to get agro the normal way.
So I think the reason that your fate reseted was definitly not because of provoke. -

It's possible that it may not be Provoke but that's the only ability I could seem to understand that would cause a boss to peel off a group and go after a completely random player.
Regardless of what the cause was, it needs to be addressed because it really annoyed myself and the rest of my party that it even happened. -

Since we agree that it wasn't Provoke... maybe the person that had aggro simply ran away?
It used to happen a lot in Coerthas. Tank dies/teleports, random caster gets targeted, freaks out, runs away and resets the boss. -

Secondary fact: You cannot just Provoke and run. Provoke puts you at the top of the Enmity list by exactly 1 point. ONE. It was most likely her randomly targeting someone with Void fire... that person running out of range and her moving to get said person. Way down on that list is, I mean at the very bottom, like around the 10000 spot is Provoke. -

Provoke doesn't work in FATES. Maybe what you saw was the boss already moving away from her intended area and someone vainly using Provoke, to try and bring her back.
Even if it worked and someone used Provoke, then whoever was trying to grieve, would have to keep hate on boss by constantly using Shield Lob/Tomahawk, to kite her out of the intended FATE area, or constantly using their combos while kiting, which is difficult to do.
I've seen it happen many a times when FATE grinding was hype for leveling. Even if there were no other FATE's popped up, people would teleport/leave the FATE area before the boss was dead. Then boss would randomly target someone with Void Fire spells whether they're in the area or not, as long as they engaged her at some point. Same thing would happen to Steropes. The only thing is, you don't know who the culprit is because it doesn't show who she randomly targets to cast Void Fire. -

Maybe they thought they could get through the FATE to do their quest, and panicked when they saw/heard the I'm-being-targeted arrow. Maybe their FC suddenly needed them just as they showed up. Maybe they showed up, saw the completion bar, and thought they wouldn't get credit, so might as well leave. Maybe they zoned out on auto-run and then realized they were in the wrong place. There are dozens of reasons someone might suddenly change their mind and/or turn around.Quote:

:cool:I have gained hate playing my WHM in a full party with medica with casts over and over. So pulling hate from fate boss is easy with healers or tanks using hate things other than provoke. Even on both my tanks I have pulled hate from other tanks with right combos.:cool:
