I miss having monsters in certain areas that even at L50 you had to creep around. Anyone else? I think having it so that, with an eight man party (or even multiple eight man parties), there would be mobs you could farm one at a time and struggle against... that would be pretty great as a means to pass the time in this game.
I'm not talking about notorious monsters or FATEs or whatever that need to be camped, I'm talking about high level monsters that roam areas just like L40+ mobs currently do. If you're worried about them making it too hard to move around in... just put them out of the way, in places like Behemoth's Dominion.
I really feel like having a fun challenge for my Free Company but we can't do anything with more than seven of us at the moment beyond rampaging through an area and killing everything in seconds.

Yes the Guardians of the Grove with the 99999 damage would be awesome and those lv 99 Rainbow Piestes defending a random aetheryte that you had to visit for a quest and an achievement then never again was awesome, it was a challenge greatly accepted.

I have to admit, it's nice being able to actually travel the world without having to fight off stuff all the time or dying. It's fun when leveling, but not so much when I just want to get somewhere.
More importantly it doesn't really make sense lore-wise. Think about all of the things you have taken down in a party of 4 by the end of the main story thus far. These had better be epic creatures that are a threat to us! I think Odin and Behemoth in the FATEs are basically as close as you are going to get. -

Level 90 mobs would be pointless. Maybe 55 so that you'd lose in a solo fight, or heck, just put the elite flag on them like the monsters that quest items are used to weaken. It's amazing how few Elite mobs exist outside of dungeons and fates.

This would not be a good idea until the level cap is raised and we can earn experience...we need some reason to do this beside some lame o drop item. We are as good as you can get and should feel safe moving around freely without dying...that is just the point we are at right now.

I'm curious regarding those saying "No" - if these mobs were out of the way from the well trodden path and served no hindrance to your travels, but would allow for fun, what is the reason you don't want this? Do you actually think you should be able to solo everything in the open world content? That seems rather absurd considering this is not a game people are supposed to solo. We have instanced fights and FATEs with mobs higher than L50, why not have a random bunch in the middle of nowhere in which eight man parties can go and farm for items? There is literally no reason I can think of not to have this.
...it doesn't make sense to me that those that take on Ultima Weapon and win are sent on the run-around to fulfill people's daily botany supply quests, nor that the leadership of all the worlds know us personally but the NPCs in the streets act as if we're new to town, nor that we ard considered "the main hero" when the same thing is said to thousands of other players (those butt-kissing leaders... ;)). I think having some pretty brutal monsters out there makes a little more sense lore-wise, if anything. I don't think it makes sense lore-wise to have thousands of L50 adventurers and yet monsters still exist. I mean, who the hell is magicking up full grown animals like that? It's insane!Quote:

Basically what the devs new to come up with are a few "special" zones on the world map that function like XI areas. Dungeons with lvl ~70-80 mobs, aggro, a few nms with ILvl 70-80 drops. an are theate near entrance but nothing within.
Something rewarding but not mandatory. They always say they want content for different types of players, so just give us three good open world dungeons please. -

I'd honestly rather see bigger zones with less mobs (and some areas with none whatsoever). Much more conducive to exploration and relaxation that way.
If they were going to introduce these 'epic' mobs, they'd need to either be:
a) Non-aggressive.
or
2) Guarding some remote temples/dungeons that you'd not normally encounter and which FEEL like they should be 'forbidden zones'.
The latter doesn't really fit the current world design and the former doesn't seem to mesh much with what most people that want these mobs seem to prefer though... -

The truth is people didn't want the headaches of FFXI to be reborn into FFXIV. The over use of prism powder and silent oil get around wasn't hard, just annoying. Right now we kill things in about three seconds when we all go and hit an L50 mob together. It's very, very boring. As for inflating epeens, you may as well remove endgame entirely if you think that anything people might consider worth cheering over is a bad thing. I wouldn't be doing it for the epeen anyway, I'd just be doing it to hang out with all my pals without having to resort to instances. This post mostly regards HNMs and things you have to camp are not what I'm discussing. I'm talking about mobs similar to those which are already in the game, but at a high level. So, imagine that in a certain area of Coerthas, the Ice Sprites were L70, for example. It would harm nobody as there would still be other lower level Ice Sprites, the L70 mobs wouldn't aggro to anyone unless they were attacked, the time it takes to implement this would be negligible compared to other features... not sure where the problem is tbh. :oQuote:

I fail to see how grossly overpowered mobs that do little other than to test one's spacial awareness when doing other things like traversing the landscape do anything other than be a nuisance.

They allow for a challenging fight in the open world and they will respawn, allowing you to continually fight once you've beaten one. Man, some people in these forums are so intent on the grind and end product that they forget to have fun. In 1.23, at the End of an Era, I wonder how many people looked at the wall of Goobbue mounts in front of Ul'dah and came onto the forums to complain that people were doing pointless things and that this ruined their game somehow. :p

content that can't be completed is pointless, get an area filled of monster that one shoot you instead to content is a no go.
