I haven't touched this game for the past few weeks. Been at GW2, and really liking the changes and the spvp. How is the PvP from the latest patch? Please comment only if you really pvp. I'd like to come back if it is decent. Thanks.

Gw2 PVP is far better. This is pretty much just a epilepsy simulator in a small arena. The game just not designed to handle PVP.
The foundation of pvp feels a lot like GW1.
It has promise, but there's not much to it right now.
Take that as you will.
While I don't find the pvp in this game bad. (Not a huge pvp fan in mmos in general)
I think you will be disappointed coming from GW2 a game built from the start with PVP in mind and which had quite some time to make changes/fixes/adjustments.
The PvP is a lot of fun, but to be honest with you. FF isn't known for it's PvP it'll always be a PvE game. Personally me and many others enjoy the PvP. Once you get ranked up get some pvp gear, new abilities it's a blast. Personally I can see it getting boring after awhile as right now it's only Arena, but hell I got bored of GW2 pvp in a week as well so.
lols.../10char?
GW2 PvP was quite fun... might reinstall the game now that I think of it :P
I wanna give it another try for a while, though I know it won't last.
Then again, I don't know if I would recommend this game purely for the PvP aspect, since it's just a very small fraction of it. You could always give it a try for 1 month and see what's up...
If you don't mind buying the sub, I have not tried PvP yet, it does sound fun, but not very refined to be honest.
It's fun, but it's not perfect. It's early days, a lot of things need balancing and improved. However, it is fun to run in for a quick match, and when I say quick, I mean quick. Most matches are over in minutes.
Final Fantasy is all about the Fantasy and PvE. Guild Wars is about warring guilds and PvP. So I'd stick to GW if you're looking for great PvP. FF isn't there (yet?).
I'll make my exit now
/captainobvious
PVP here is more of just a minigame. not a major focus for gameplay. if yoru a hardcore pvp player then this isnt for you.
Worst pvp ever in an mmo. Worst than FFXI.
Thanks for the input. I think I'll stick to GW2 for now.
Hah. That's not even possible. This is massively better than FFXI's balista implementation. Balista was hard to get into, hard to find people for, and was completely unbalanced. FFXIV's is easy to get into, easy to find people, and surprisingly balanced outside of a few outliers. On absolutely no grounds is FFXI's possibly better.
Sad to see you go, stranger!
But >_< Well, is not to throw it down but it is new, and while it may still be fun, possibly not enough to play the game just for it =O
However, game is still worth a try, if you can look past all the bullshit stuff. You acn still have TONS of fun.
While I can't comment on GW2 PvP the above poster is completely wrong and has no idea what he's talking about regarding PvP in this game.
OP is already subbed, there's no way his forum cookies would have lasted this long. You're not allowed to post when your sub expires (though you can for a little while after until your session cookies expire).
I never wait more than a couple minutes to get a match on a DPS, no respawn is not a bad thing, it is last man standing not deathmatch, Who gives a crap about animations, wonderful, I say, wonderful.Quote:
Long wait for match to start, no respawn, CC fest, animations not able to finish while chasing, etc. Terrible I say, terrible.
//somewhat overacted to imitate the quoted poster, but really. it's not terrible, it's fun. I can't believe people are raging about the prep timer. come on, it's not a big deal.
the last time I unsubbed from XI (same forums as this really) i was stopped from posting within a few weeks. Same on these boards after 1.0 was shut down (because oops, they forgot to disable that)
So there may be something else to it.
Oh I am currently subbed. I just deleted the game, because I am not completely maxed, but close to it. The only reason I would reinstall would be for pvp. The pve although fun, is not really challenging. Once you down it, it's over, and as I understand it, Coil is the toughest dungeon in here so far, and I am 5/5. I liked FFXIV, it's a good game, but going to wait until they release some more stuff to do. Not much going on right now.
No game can please veryone, I dont like current WoW PvP: too many instant CCs, Casters running around spaming without casting at all, different schools of cc and stunlock you to death, lame class/spec balance, etc etc.
Haters are haters, but no one force you to play FF14 PvP tho.
Really enjoying the patch so far. Crystal Tower, while not entirely difficult, is a lot of fun, the extreme primals are a proper challenge for their ilvl, and the PvP is an absolute blast! :D I highly recommend at least trying it out for a while and getting the groove of it before passing judgment.
Please. GW2 pvp was awful. Doesn't hold a candle to GW1.
ARR pvp has some issues and needs some balancing but there is far more dynamic strategy involved in ARR than in "everybody is now a ranged, dodge the circles" GW2. Go into ARR and every fight is different, and you have to adapt to your comp and enemy comp. GW2, just dodge roll and spam, all the time
PvP in this game is just a distraction, no more than that. It's something else to do when you have a bit of spare time. It isn't great but it's probably better than most expected it to be, especially as everyone's expectations for it were pretty much rock bottom.
But if you're playing an MMO just for the PvP it's highly advisable you go elsewhere.
Just wanted to put my 2c in.
To start the PvP hasn't really hit its strides yet. It could use a few tweaks for sure but the full meta/standard hasn't bet set in stone yet.
I would say if you like the pioneering aspect of a lot of PvP hop on in, but not on the sole account of the PvP as it is unrefined currently.
It's pretty funny that I'm wrong for answering a question about 2 games I have actually played, and can compare. You on the other hand have no basis for comparison. On a side note, you know nothing about animations until you play melee PvP in this game.
GW2 PvP may be worse than GW1, but it is still far superior to ARR.
I can't even believe you think there is more "dynamic strategy in ARR", there are no specs, no combo fields, and contrary to what you said, dodging actually adds another layer to pvp. Give it 2 weeks, whatever OP comp (probably Smn Smn sch, pld/war) will just run train on everyone.
There is no difference between one bard or another bard, or any other class comparison because of the fact that there is no spec customization.
Comparing these two games on pvp is like comparing and apple to an apple that a bum took a dump on and threw in the garbage. It just wasn't built with pvp in mind.
question about Ct about the loot locked if u get loot r u locked from Ct entirely?
I love how many people like to say "this is what final fantasy is about" when most FFs center around some kind of major international conflict, often a world war.
/facepalm
Just because the online games draw on single-player titles doesn't mean the game is 'about PvE'. XI may have been a total fail in PvP, but that was a shortcoming of the development, not the world's potential.
Combo fields are an awful system. Meanwhile, dodging dominates the game just as much as sleep. At least you can counter sleep. Dodging is just a tacked on invulnerability button and trivializes any supposed depth you think the game has. Dodge invulnerability is a counter to everything. It doesn't "add another layer" it completely smothers the game. Doesn't matter how unique you think your spec is, it's just different ways to spec into dodge invulnerability.
If you hold GW2 up to same scrutiny as ARR, it's a total mess. People just give it a pass because its GW2, and supposedly a "pvp game" even though it tried to be an eSport and FAILED MISERABLY.
The PVP in this game is very basic...or lacking. I'm enjoying it, but it's weak compared to other games.
You'll be disappointed if you're into PVP. Go back to GW2 or WAR or SWG
It feels kinda like GW1 PvP which was great. It's all I have been doing since 2.1 hit, and I love it. The opinions vary a lot, as you can see.
You can indeed still run it to help others.
This is just the first event, there will be more...Quote:
The PVP in this game is very basic...
On a mechanical level it's not basic at all, unless you consider the PvP of WoW or other similar games to be "basic."
GW1 pvp > GW2 pvp
And there is a reason people say ARR pvp is similar to GW1 pvp. It's because there is actually some structure, give and take, countering, and mind games.
GW2 pvp is just twitchy circle dodging all day. It doesn't even have healing. There is just no structure and teamplay is terrible. ARR pvp, even in this basic state, is better off and has more potential than horrible GW2 dodgefest.
We can argue all day, but the fact is there is nothing differentiating one player as a specific class with another character of the same class, everything is the same, no different specs, no talents, just necessary pvp skills you have to grind out in order to not get slept for 30 seconds. You're grasping for straws, and your argument makes no sense for anyone who has played gw2. Healing exists (water fields and blast finishers, or guardians, or necro leech heals), dodging is not buggy at all, and as for teamplay? Well, I would argue holding points in spvp is more skill based than the 1-2 minute clusterbomb that is FFXIV pvp.
