As far as I can tell, Wolves Den meets the definition of Player Vs Player battles. Number of players and the ability to gank loot from other players has nothing to do with PvP per say.
Well...PvP = Player v. Player.
That's what we'll be doing lmao, but it looks like crap.
I'm more interested in Fort Sieges.
No worries bro, the underlying "unresponsive gameplay" that requires precise control for optimal play will kill PvP before anything like you describe happens.
Spam an ability that uses the GCD after triggering an ability off the GCD and vice versa. Notice how the animations and triggers don't behave as they should.
Couple this with manic PvP button mashing and you have a recipe for fail. Imagine spamming your trinket in WoW to break CC, having the trinket go off and the CC not break. Sounds like fun, huh?
Back to Aion then :<
Player VS Player. It's this game's own balanced version of PVP.
I positively cannot stand people like the OP. I've been a huge PvP advocate going all the way back to Ultima Online and I'm here to tell you that you don't need to lose anything to make it PvP.
I love open PK hardcore games as well but I respect that the FF franchise may not be the best medium for that type of combat. It's a lot of fun managing an effective server shutdown or boss lockout. Been there, done that and honestly - I sort of like kicking back in FF.
I look forward to good, balanced PvP in Wolves Den. Players always make more surprising and cunning opponents. That's what PvP is all about. Hopefully, Yoshi and team put the proper incentives in place to have the kind of constantly evolving challenge that makes it so fun.
The whole "Fresh Meat" naming system is utterly awful. If anything concerns me about the general ethos of PvP in FFXIV - it's that.
oh give me a break... The primary appeal of the concept of player vs player, which is battling against unpredictable opponents who behave differently from normal enemies, is still there. You don't need names or oddball team comps to have pvp and it will still be fun to play if you're into that sort of thing.
So yes, there will be pvp in the game. Whether you *like* it or not is up to you but it most certainly will exist.
I do not believe that PVP will work in this game. There should rather be no PVP than broken PVP. =(
Yes, I play from Europe and I have 100 - 110 MS when pinging to FFXIV servers but this game still feels 10 times more unresponsive than other games.. And I used to play L2 with 300ms lol.
And ever notice the delay between the cast bar filling, the animation going off and the spell actually damaging stuff?
This will be really neat in PvP if there are line of sight obstacles like doors, pillars, etc.
e.g. a whm can stand behind a pillar or next to a doorway, out of LoS, start casting holy and then in the half second or so between the animation going off and the spell hitting run into a crowd of enemies and hit them with it. Any non-target AOE can be used this way: Holy, Blizzard II, Medica, Succor, etc.
e.g. cast a spell and at end of cast move, wherever you are when the animation is done is where the attack occurs, it doesn't matter where you were standing when you actually cast the spell.
Try it. Cast Holy, Blizzard II, etc. When the cast is *just* about to end, run to a different spot while the animation is going off. Wherever you end up is where the spell goes off. So a group of people can stand behind a pillar or next to a door, all start casting and then run into the enemies (through the door, from behind the column) and hit them with spells in the time between the cast bar filling and the animation ending.
not to troll or qq or anything like that, but for those so upset by the yet-to-be-implemented-pvp*-system in FFXIV, why not just jump to a fighting game? You lose out on the group aspect etc., but the genre seems to have all the aspects you guys are looking for in PvP.
Why do you tell lies?
PVP is one thing, the fact that you don't like pvp in this game is a different matter.
Who looks for pvp ina FF game anyway?
I'm a player. Hitting and taking hits from another... player.
Not PvP, eh?
Lol, I'm pretty sure that Wolves' Den counts as PvP. I mean it's Players...fighting...yep, you guessed it - other Players.
Actually I'm quite looking forward to it. I hear it's going to have 30 Ranks to go up in, and also special abilities that are purchased with PvP Points.
Now the only question is whether or not it'll have a tournament system and/or seasons.
Do you even read what you type? You can't slide cast that hard in this game due to server side process. Yes, you can get the ANIMATION phased significantly. Yet the actual damage radius will be behind you. I like slidecasting my BLM Blizzard II, but you can't significantly move the AoE location.
You make it sound like you can run darn near across a room while slidecasting an AoE. Ummm, no.
I think that no one bought this game for PVP but if they are going to add PVP they should do it properly. You cant argument that we have no right to criticise it because this is PVE game. This game has serious problems which will probably ruin PVP? Fine, dont add it to game then.
In my opinion No PVP >>> Poorly working PVP, but yeah, maybe they will surprise me and in Wolves Den there will be no animation, delay etc. issues.
People don't want to put in the time, it takes months to even get coherent in fighting games and years to finally understand high level play. The pay out for learning them is amazing though, endless leveling up and a whole new world of competition opens up :D
There are actually other, way more critical questions regarding PvP in ARR, like how will the inherently "laggy" client-server system translate to manic PvP button mashing?
Instant Ability Eaten
He spammed Foresight after using Flash but didn't get the buff. The Foresight animation went off, the CD was triggered but no Foresight buff. How is this going to translate to manic PvP button mashing? My guess is there is going to be a lot of frustration and rage, especially on long, important CDs like Hallowed Ground.
Honestly, if I want open-world gank-based PvP I'll go play EVE again...
I prefer organized, instanced PvP
You guys responding to this in any serious nature (aside from dae, whos got a valid suggestion, i'm open to seeing any of you in Blaz, or any other fighter) are making yourself look silly, OP is troll post, even if poorly done. systems not even out yet, and for you to judge something before it comes into existence, especially when you damn it before conception, is ignorant, and the latter of the two is called abortion... just sayin
Just because it isn't your perfect version of pvp doesn't change the fact that this is blatantly "Player Versus Player" content. So cynical.
Didnt Yoshi said there'll be HIGH speed or latency somethign to make it smooth in only wolf den and other certain area but not all zone? I need find where that post was...
Also, this is why it worried me about solo que due to 1 tank 1 healer 2 dps que, It'll even be worse than Duty finder for Dungeon. Due to how much crowd of Final Fantasy player hating PVP... Premade que should be fine though (Hopefully)
Yeah I know that's a big problem. SE has said that in 2.1, certain areas such as Raids and Wolves' Den battles will be optimized and have increased performance as far as latency goes. Not sure if it'll be a good enough solution, but we'll just have to wait and see. I'm just happy they actually acknowledged it's a problem.
I think most people think the pvp will fail, because there is no skill required.. - button smashing and GCD.. lol
Realm vs Realm ... and its comin also. Jeez, clueless people
My whole free company is a PvP centered one and we came on FF because of what was announced PvP wise back in the beta era. ;)Quote:

How about we use a realistic scenario?
No PvP'er with any self respect would ever position him/herself in a spot where the only option is to take damage. Seriously, do you think standing out of LoS around a corner/pillar within casting range is a good idea when you have no way of initiating?
Well said! You can't be a p PvP player if you think people not going to be in your face fast. And if we see Simone casting something like that you can move away/silence/stun. It might work once but not on the aware player. I just want my name and that full zone for PvP that "large scale" (castle takingk?) Is bringing. :)
Wouldn't mind seeing ballista return.
Ballista was fun. I've played all kinds of PvP games from WoW, Aion, SWTOR, Guild Wars2 ect. and I had more fun in ballista than in any of those games I mention.
As a Black Mage though, I don't think I will like PvP on this game. My good spells have lengthy cast times and all anyone would have to do is run circles around me while beating me into a pulp since LoS is so finicky on this game. Sounds about as much fun as going to the dentist. So unless they get rid of LoS think I'll pass on PvP.
This is a team battle. The idea is the co-operation between jobs. If you have a Bard shadowbind your target, you will have no problem landing your spell. You also can sleep your target before starting your nuke.
Currently, there is a good example of design failure that gives every single class/spec CC ability. WoW is currently having issue with too many instant CCs
Sleep also has a cast time. If the target is running circles around me while pummeling me to death (which they could do very easy) I highly doubt I could sleep them since the LoS on this game is so insanely picky.
I don't mind cooperation. But total dependence on another class just so I can land the vast majority of my spells is another matter.
I don't like CC moves in PvP. Especially if they allow you to be attacked while you cannot move. So that was the last thing I was asking for. I loathed all of the CC on WoW. But I also hate an over abundance of LoS mechanics like pillar humping or having some melee constantly dance around me so I can't hit them with anything. That is just as annoying.
I'm just gonna jump in, get that lion set for vanity purposes, and never do it again. /shrug PvP always brings out the worst in people.
I obviously will try PVP and I am sure I will have tons of fun with it. However, it is not what brought me to this game
