Content Becoming Easier in the Future

There are a lot of people who do not like this (including me). I've had the game since launch and I just finally completed the main story. I move at a casual pace. However, that isn't to say that I don't want to experience the challenges this game has to offer. We have been told that there will come a time when players will receive a buff to allow them to complete the more difficult older content to catch up with the rest. Here is my solution:

Allow players to play old outdated challenges with the original level cap / item-level cap the challenge had upon its initial release. Award unique achievement items for players able to complete these challenges (players who completed these challenges upon their initial release would obviously also receive these awards without any additional action on their part). I think something like this would go a far way in pleasing both casual and hardcore players.

Thoughts?

They won't be making the content itself any easier, they'll just be applying the echo buff to older turns of Coil and such. The echo buff is not automatically applied; it triggers on death and gets stronger the more you wipe meaning things won't instantly be easy mode, you can still challenge it at the original difficulty first.

Well, you can't kid yourself. As they introduce new gear and new content, old content can't help but get easier. If you wait another year to do Coil, you simply won't have the same experience as those players that did it last month.

There is already some help in place to some degree. You can get furniture/vanity items from the hard mode primals already... Granted, the items they turn into aren't implemented yet, but it's coming soon!

I foresee more people farming HM Titan, Garuda and Ifrit for these items once housing comes out. This would mean that people that already know how to win these fights will be helping out people just doing it for the first time.

I farmed Garuda for a while yesterday for myth tomes and to try to get my feather and I got one! :D I already got my Titan heart as well... Just need a Ifrit horn still. Sadly people think I'm nuts cause I can't even use them yet, but it's stuff to do! :p

I think them doing stuff like this makes more sense than nerfing the fights. Having someone to help you, that knows the ropes is better than just making the fight less fun.

Like with every buff, right-click on the buff icon to get it away.

Luckily with the route they're taking you can simply remove the buff. So the option to complete content in the original form will still exist. Much MUCH better than redesigning it to be easier.

It will come a time that will be incredible hard for u to find group for this content, just as it happens in wow, go try to find a party to do low lvl raid, u will need to take a few days research member, low lvl equipment... to do as u want, also as time pass by, a lot of mechanics will sure change, new high and low lvl skill will probably be add, balances change... all this will made it easier them it is now.

This buff is just meant for playing don't get stuck on low lvl raid without being able to find party and when u do, their player skill don't get u stuck or the other way around.

Old contents gets easier for new people, alts perhaps, and casual players. New contents are harder. If you want it to be a challenge, wear some underleveled gears. If it's a i90 dungeon, use a i70 for example. But really, who would do that? o.o

I try to be on top of content while it's still cutting edge. It doesn't bother me in the slightest that they eventually make it easier so that people who haven't had the opportunity to experience yet can progress through it. I'm not one of those people that think my experience has been cheapened by making it easier for people to complete content I've already done and get gear that I've already replaced.

I know there's some people like the OP that want to experience the content in its original form well after the fact, and I can respect that. It would be nice if the buff you receive is optional so that you can throw yourself at it as much as you want at the intended challenge level before deciding it's better to just take the buff and have an easier time of it.

Yet another way for them to let everyone stroll to endgame to spam 1 raid, and make everything besides newest content irrelevant.

... Coil isn't getting Echo yet. Probably won't see Echo until 2.3 or 2.4 (and that's only going to be the first 5 turns at that point).

Not sure anyone actually read the solution? I should clarify. You would still have the option to use the buff - only if you use the buff and equipment above the initial item-level cap you don't get the achievement / award item.

I love when people point out that they've had a game since launch when the game is out roughly 3 months (with a far stretch)

You can click the buff off like any other beneficial effect by right clicking it in your buff list.

Ummm...I said that to point out that it took me 3 months to complete the main storyline (implying that I'm a casual player who still wants the challenges to remain intact in one form or another). I've been an FFXI subscriber since NA PC launch. That better?

the actually casual people are still not lvl 50 ;)

(why do people have to call themselves hardcore or casual? can you be even more casual than casual? can you be more hardcore than hardcore?)

my point was that it sounds like the game has been out forever and you were one of the slow kind. you were NOT.

Let aside that Level 50 is not the final Cap and the Story will continue with the upcoming Patches/Updates/Expansions, you are far away from finishing the "Mainstory". What you have finished are maybe the available Parts for now, but that's about it. Also.. Content will get easier at one Point, no matter if due scaling, new levelcap, new gear etc etc. That also happend a lot in FFXI. ( which you said you subbed since NA Release ).

No - I want to create incentive so that there is a purpose to attempt old challenges again for those who weren't able to experience them the first time. It's an easy solution and it wouldn't bring anything but benefit.

They already said they adding the echo buff. Currently the way the echo buff works the more you wipe the stronger the buff becomes you get to your hp/damage ect. When they nerf coil with this you could just leave and re enter if you wipe enough times you start getting the stacking echo buff if you don't want to use it.

I agree - that's an option. But then you need 7 other people willing to do that. I agree - keep the buff. But make some sort of system to turn it off and cap you at the item cap / level cap upon initial release to earn an achievement and/or item. That type of incentive is needed to get people to want to complete the challenge.

To be fair, no progression- or loot-minded FC is ever going to do this. (I tried for YEARS to get people to "turn off the nerfs" in WoW heroic raiding.)

And this isn't a new thing, especially with attunement gating. Leaving the difficulty as it was prevents people from getting to current content and serves no other real useful purpose. You saw it in vanilla WoW, you saw it in BC - having to get a new replacement in your main raid team geared by first running Karazhan over and over, then SSC/TK over and over and then BT/Hyjal over and over before you could FINALLY introduce him to your raid team that was progressing through Sunwell that desperately needed that class.

It's better design this way. It's better for alts, it's better for FC recruitment and the nerfs won't happen until the content is old and outdated.

Do you really want your new SCH who's replacing the SCH you've had for ~6 months getting stuck on HM Titan because DF before you can get him into Coil turn 9 or whatever? (as an example)
