Fishing needs more value

Fishing used to be a job worth pursuing. It went hand in hand with alchemy. Turning fish into crystals and shards was awesome. I understand that it was potential problems for RMT's, but now fishing is only good for a handful of cooking synths and completing the log. I am requesting that more value is placed on fishing and maybe go back to 1.0 style where we can synth the fish into useful items. :cool:

It was stated many times that fishing was not intended to contribute to the games economy in a substantial way. They wanted fishing to be an escape or a relaxing part of the game. A mini game if you will, but I agree this is not a mini game I want to play nor is it any fun. It's down right boring and its a level to 50 job and forget it for me.

Completly supporting this. Having time to implent useless things is just useless. Don't waste time to implent things of which 99% of the Community won't pick up. Nobody enjoys to waste time doing useless things that don't pay off. With it's current state fishing is meant to waste away.

I love fishing. I love it alot. But it definitely needs more utility, at least for the high-end fishing. As far as end-game fishing goes, the only big game level 50 fish that has any utility at all is the Mahi-Mahi, and you're better off farming easy-peasy Red Coral if money is what you're after.

There's nothing more fun than catching a ginormous HQ level 50 two-star fish with some epic prehistoric name and appearance....and there is nothing more disheartening than selling it for a couple gil because nobody cares that you have a Giant Donko.

The ease of which fishing would be to bot instantly says that this will never happen. Working as intended, do other gathering stuff. Fishing will not be more than it is now.

That about sum it up? The risk of something being botted should not affect the gameplay, nor should it dictate the way something is played. BTN and MNRs can be as easily botted, and they collect important materials. Why weren't there as neutered as we were? As it is, the current mechanics punish the players, not the bots.

In 1.0 we were useful. Fish became shards and crystals, dark matter could be fished up, and more fish did more things. We've been neutered, and we're to just suck it up because, "Oh no, bots might do bad stuff!"? In case you haven't been playing recently, bots are already doing bad stuff. I think the possibility of a bunch of bots making shards is far outweighed by people actively hacking logged in accounts to steal millions of gil.

The simple fact is Yoshi and his crew were and are still being lazy with this class. We were more in 1.0. We were more in XI. Now we're nothing. This class absolutely needs more value, because right now everything about it screams lazy.

Like it or not, what it was it is no longer and isn't likely to ever be again. It is exactly as they described it would be in 2.0 and they've said on more than one occasion that it's precisely how it's suppose to work. This is a take it or leave it sort of situation I fear, so yes. Suck it up or let it lie.

Guess what, if majority of players dislike it it's NOT working as intended, it's broken and needs a fix.

And while we're at it - bots use botany and mining just fine, spewing hundreds of thousands of shards onto the market on a daily basis. You don't beat bots by making an entire class borderline useless, they'll just find another way to make gil.

You might have a point if Mining/Botany weren't already being teleport botted to hell and back.
I don't see how fishing bots could possibly be any worse than what's already going on.

When somebody designs a game and things are working as they are intended then it is fine. In this case, it is working as intended. Community members need to remember, if you start wanting things your way because you paid X amount and etc, its really like making your own game. We have to keep in mind, its really no fun in playing a game in which you create because you can predict everything that's going to happen, which is boring.

However, fishing actually makes a fair amount of gil for the little amount of effort required for it. You don't really have to run around between nodes and you can sit in a single spot for fairly long amounts of time. If you shuffle thru the forums, you will find that there are community members who make quite a bit from just fishing because fishing is required in some aspects of the game.

Just because something is working as intended doesn't mean it's any good. Yes, people can make money from it, but because of that fact we're supposed to bend over and be happy with what they've given us? The fact is, fishing was better before. You use a lot of words like fact and declarations like it isn't fun. You also claim that a two page thread determines the sheer amount of unhappiness in the fishing community? How very...interesting. Personally I find fishing to be very fun, and I'm VERY happy with fishing as it is and frankly I hated fishing in 1.0. So...one of us must be wrong.

Fishing is by far the least worthwhile class in the game.
There is just no return for the player, it's not worthwhile to do. No reward.

Not enough fish are used in Alchemy/Cooking recipes.
Right now, those control/CP fish recipes are hardly worthwhile at all, since with that 100% HQ method everyone is doing, they aren't needed.
The only fishing recipe I cook is Deviled Eggs, and the sardines are easy to get, infact its all you can get when you're fishing at the right time/place.
Need more recipes that can be used for Alchemy/Cooking.

The record system is kinda neat but I dunno, it could be extended somewhat.
Maybe a weekly competition, so the records reset each week.
And some reward on each server for the highest scores, maybe a trophy too when furniture/furnishing come out.
A stuffed Coeurlfish would look cool on the wall too.

One of the first things i look for in any game is fishing in this game its 99% useless.

Its not fun pressing one button when you see something bite that is not a mini game.
When you do catch a fish its like congratulations you did something useless.
The point where fishing is currently in game has not only destroyed fishing but mining and botany also
as the bots have just used those 2 gathering classes instead of fishing.

I loved the fishing system in ffxi and no i don't want that in this game i just want something more interactive
and rewarding than what we have now.

fishers actuallly get alot of money. Fish are involved in alot of important cul recipies.

I've met someone who's claimed to had made 3 million on fishing already! crazyness. also you can slowly eek out a profit selling junk fish at venders if you want.

100% agree, fishing needs SOMETHING, a compromise, anything. At the very least give us aquariums or mounting racks to put in houses, so we can show off our biggest catches and whatnot. If this is a class not meant to make money, at least let it be a FUN class, give us something to do, let us show off, etc.

I am taking all DoL and DoH to 50 EXCEPT fishing, becuase it appears to be significantly less useful than everything else.

CUL is very easy to level without fish. Chamomile Tea, Cornmeal, Apple juice.

Fishing is also one of the fastest classes to level if you fish at the right spots, not counting buying leve turn ins for crafting classes (which you could technically do for Fishing as well), so might as well level it anyway, heh. It was my last non-combat 50 by a long shot as well, though.

It's also useful for spiritbonding crafting jewelry while leveling it (probably also at cap, provided you can find something worth fishing) - seemed significantly faster than spiritbonding with Mining or Botany but I wasn't too scientific in my observations. Especially if you can still use level 1 crafting materia for melds due to how fast the low level stuff spiritbonds.

I started fishing last weekend. So far the only positive aspect I have seen is that leveling is quite fast. Besides this, only negative aspects as far as I am concerned. :-(

Far too many fishes, too much randomness and spot searching, little chances to hunt for a particular fish, no value on the market (I am Level 29, might change in higher levels), only a few fishes are needed from the Cook and the Alchemist, Free company and leve quests take forever compared to Miner or Gardener quests.

The by far worst moment is the fishing itself. The waiting time before your Gamepad starts vibrating is killing me. I guess it is the equivalent of the time the other DOL need to make their 4-5 strikes on a node but having to stand still and waiting for that moment is beyond boring and I dumped my baits more than once missing that moment. I know fishing in real Life takes long and can be boring but this is a Game ffs. Do you really want people to stand still all the time waiting and call it a mini game?

So far I was quite ambitious with my DOL and DOH. It took several weeks to gear them up with 100% HQ items, not to speak of spirit bonding to insert Materia. The Fisher in oppisite will be brought to 50 and left alone with his white items because I can't be arsed to care for him. He gets a lot HQ fishes anyways and has zero skills to make fishing interesting and less of a hazzle. Gathering more than one fish at once like Gardener or Miner can do with skills? Nope. Raising HQ chance? Nope. Catching something besides fishes (like shards, Carbonised Materia or colors for dying)? Nope. Too many nopes for the fisher imo. So far the most boring DOL class I have played with almost zero Fun. Glad I did not start with him, otherwise I might have lost interest in DOL classes directly.

Funny, I see that as a negative. In 1.0 it took time and effort to get to 50. Now you can do it in less than a week.

This is also funny. In 1.0 we did catch shards and catalysts (there were... 9? A lot of different types of catalysts. Each gathering class could get 3). Through fishing's offhand gathering, spearfishing, we could gather pots of dye for 1.0's primitive dyeing system. The fish were also more useful, in that there were more recipes (for CUL and ALC), and tonnes of different fish could be "cracked" into shards and crystals through alchemy. I still have around 15 stacks of indigo herring on my retainer, because in 1.0 they became lightning crystals, which were needed to crack fish into crystals and shards. Also, it was possible to catch more than one fish at a time back then. Some fish had hardcaps of 1 fish per catch (N. and S. pike), but most had 3, 4, or 5 as the limit. When hamlets came out, Young Indigo Herring had a possible catch of 10 fish. That's the only reason I still have 54 stacks on my retainer.

A lot of people didn't like 1.0's fishing system, but I much prefered it simply because there was actual interactivity. Back then you'd choose your bait (they were important in 1.0 as well, not sure why Yoshi is trumpeting that they're super important now), choose your depth (this would increase chances of catching certain fish), then cast. Sometimes you'd get a nibble, which you'd Wait on. When you got a Bite you'd Jig, and then you were presented with a slice/pie meter thingy with a ball moving left and right over the pie slice. You could jig in 5 directions (full left, mid left, middle, mid right, and full right), and you'd get messages based on how it was going, like "The fish is pulling on the line" or "You can't quite reel it in yet." Based on the messages you'd jig in another direction or the same spot, and eventually you'd get a fish.

Fishing got hit the worst by Dalamud, and it seems Yoshi just doesn't care to bring us back to... If not glory, then at least being worth playing.

There are so many fish with no use at all, no crafting or anything. This should be fixed.

I agree they should fix Fishing. I enjoy it very much and would like to get some use out of it. I hear that they are worried about botting. Maybe SE can change the way fish are caught... Maybe have a random sequence of keys\buttons that need to be pressed when the fish is caught on the line. This sequence will always be random and would make almost impossible to bot? Or maybe not, I'm just giving this a quick thought. Dont know to much about botting... and it probably would be odd for SE to implement some sort of randomized button\key sequence.

As far as profit goes, I think Fishing is fine.

If I want to use Botany and Miner to make money, it's pretty much something I have to constantly focus on, running from node to node and traveling around a lot for Unspoiled Nodes. Fishing, on the other hand, I can do while reading. I don't need to focus at all outside listening for the prompt to Hook. It might not make money as fast as Botany and Miner, but it requires next to no effort; it's how I make money when I want to relax, instead of frantically running around Eorzea.

Only thing I wish they'd do is add competitive fishing, something to focus on which isn't profit related. Right now the most we can do is compare Personal Records, which is kinda... Meh...

All fish have a value in the system. There might be an issue with the measure of obsolete and the quick nature of it. Many fish are a victim of that but I can't find inventory to save them anyway. It's easy to throw them away.

I'm not saying I don't want processed shards back. I do, I hate shard grind but for fishing I suspect we might end up seeing a vendor exchange system for shard to fish. It's very likely we won't ever see the Alch recipes brought back.

don't think i enjoyed it back then but I misse those bronze subligar pulls as well lol
