Ps3 users severely hindered. no k/m support.. Any news on this?

My cousin plays on the playstation 3. I have became aware that playstation users although they allow keyboard + mouse plug in, are still forced to use playstation controllers to move/play the game.

Problem? : He will never be able to truly enjoy the game because the keybind settings for the system controller arent as good, arent as easily accessed as a keyboard and mouse would allow. We were under the impression that since keyboard and mouse are enabled, that he would of been able to switch to PC hotbar UI/ click / WASD control.

Playstation 3 fates still having problems rendering compared to a PC. We played together and running fates was a nightmare. Rendering things only after 3/4 of a fate is done and thus earning him bronze / silver only since he isnt performing optimally due to mobs not displaying.

Why would you allow the PC version to ship with functionality for both, but not ship the PS3 version to do the same? why wreck their experience?

They've already said that the PS3 will not support K+M controls. Only the PS4 version will support true K+M controls.

Stuff taking time to load is simply a limitation of the system. Not much can be done about that.

Though I'll have to disagree with playing with a controller being that bad compared to K+M.

Did they say that pre -release" ? because if they did we missed it . I dont think he is getting a ps4 EVER, so.. Yeah. Good game, lost a customer sadly :( + probably me + more friends since.. they are all unhappy

I dont know why they would release a game for a system that cant handle it / run at current version at normal settings/ features. What else is Ps3 missing?

How is he getting such low loading? I'm on ps3 and stuff loads fine for me might take a few seconds but it does load and I rarely see bronze or silver in fates mostly golds even when I'm soloing them while in a DF que.

Thats what im wondering. I mean, we were on at like 10 pm and running fates at cereulum proccessing plant like the dark devices etc. So many people lag him out and he cant target a mob until the bosses or fates are like 3/4 done. It takes forever. He has the fastest internet he can get too. It is a limit of the ps3 i understand but i mean imagine how much more you have to do to achieve the same level of play as a pc. The worst part was he was getting hit by the mobs but cant target them / see effects? like are you joking. No wonder people wanna quit if they play on ps3.

PS3 KB/M mouse support is very limited in the PS3 OS.
They practically have to build the interface from the ground up, and if you're going to do that, then you might as well just put your time and effort into optimizing the controller the console comes with.

PS4 will support an optimized version of DX11, so KB/M support should be much easier for developers to provide out of the box.

As for the game not loading in, the ps3 only has 512MB of ram it's a question of simple optimization and prioritization.
Near as I can tell, there is no default low detail place holder for enemies or players. This requires a model to be completely loaded in before it displays. I think if they made a low res "shadow" placeholder it would vastly improve the PS3 experience in crowded fate areas.

But the PS3 CAN handle the game. Its just not perfect.

I know that I'm pretty happy that I can play the game on my PS3.

Meh, nobody in their right mind would go buy a ps4 to get going on ffxiv Lol. Sorry not sorry.

Except not? KB/M worked perfectly on PS3 during the beta test (phase 3).

not sure what class you play or if there is a newer version of ps3 that handles better but- being a tank on the system an trying to switch between mobs frantically, mark efficiently, ETc.. is impossible without the use of TONS of macros and even then- it is not the same as you dont want to always launch 10 lines of code if you need only 1 line in the middle of it(( ie; 6 spell chain, all 5 on cooldown except 1)

Really ? they had the UI mode of a PC version?

Get a Seagate Momentus XT for your PS3. I got mine recently since I won't have a PS4 anytime soon (nor will FF14 be on it until later next year) and the 2.1 content makes me wary until then. It made a very very significant difference for playing the game for me.

what is that + how much does it cost, I mean. This is just ludacris to me they would allow the game to skip features to provide a lesser service to console users.

Hasn't bothered me too much in all honesty. It's a SSD+HDD hybrid that I got around $80 refurbished at 750GB. Makes the game load much faster in comparison to the stock PS3 HDD.

I don't know about you, but being a tank isn't quite as stressful as being a healer and I do that just fine on a PS3 using just a controller. In fact, only time I've ever used a macro on a combat class was when I Bard'd Dhorme Chimera just so I could put a sound effect on Blunt Arrow. I've done near every dungeon on a PS3 using Dragoon, Bard and White Mage with hardly any trouble in targeting and using actions. I don't get the love affair people have with keyboard and mouse. I mean, keyboard I use but just for chat and I don't even use a mouse with my computer, I prefer trackballs. I don't feel hindered in the slightest and don't miss anything from the PC version. Mayhaps instead of trying to beat a console down for not being a PC, why not consider that some people just know how to use it and some don't.

Tanking with a controller is no where near as difficult as you want to make it seem.

Yes, I can't just click on a mob to target it like I would with a mouse, but its certainly not impossible to do on a controller, hell, its not even hard to do on a controller. Not even sure why you believe there's a need for "tons of macros" either. Just get used to switching between cross-bars.

In my opinion, it was foolish to think the PS3 would be on equal grounds. But with the upgrade to my PS3, the only short-coming I can point out is the inferior graphics (which still look great, and the upgrade stopped all the texture popping). I'm 100% comfortable and confident in the PS3 controls, I would actually do worse to play with K+M at this point. It just takes a bit of customization, especially in target filtering.

The the ps3 is pretty much is max on the ram it can use for this game. This guys video will get your ps3 running pretty good and does a good job explaining why ps3 renders fates and stuff so bad. Square did a poor job on setting up the Hud for Ps3 users to get max performance.

The PS3 does not have the PC UI due to memory limits. Which is also why the PS4 WILL have it. There's not much they can do about it when the system is so starved for memory.

So because the PS3 has the bare bones of the game, and basically every aspect of the UI/controls that is necessary (well will as soon as focus target is added at 2.1 i think) and does not play with the PC controls (M/K) its a fail? plenty of PS3 players run coil each week and have no issues.

You do realize that a lot of PC players use a controller (because its easier and give us ready access to more skills without large movements of our hands), meaning it is essentially the same as PS3 but better graphics for the day to day play... yes the PC version has extra sidebars and such you can click with a mouse, but they are not that important. and all these extras are coming to the PS4. dont want to move to PS4 to basically play the PC version of the game, well get a PC. Buying a PS3 game and expecting to use K/M is a bit crazy if you ask me.

Ok, let me explain something to you, because you really seem to need it. Playing with a keyboard and mouse, THAT would wreck the game experience for me. I f'king hate having to use keyboard and mouse. It's unweildly and counterintuitive to me. When a game does not allow use of a gamepad I DO NOT BUY IT. There are those out there, believe it or not, who wholly prefer never to even touch keyboard and mouse controls. Were my PC able to play the game smoothly, I would play with gamepad only. On PS3 version, I play with gamepad and would NEVER use keyboard and mouse even if the option was there. Is it ruining my game. Not in the slightest. I quite enjoy it, and would never even use the option if it were available to me. You, are not everyone. Because something is good for you, does not make it the same for everyone. There are different people out there, with different ways of doing things, different likes, wants and desires. Blanket statements about how nobody can ever truly enjoy something unless it is done the way that YOU do it really kind of make you look like an idiot. Just FYI.

The ps3 is at its end when it comes to pushing limits with games, FF14 does that too. There is just so many things to load and honestly, square's inability to run things efficiently does not help either. There is a lot of optimization to be done, on the ps3 client before it runs smooth. In all honestly, I blame the beta period for that as it wasn;t until phase 3 that they allowed ps3. and then it only lasted like like 4 weekends and 2 in phase 4. thats roughly 20 days of testing.. barely enough to change anything.

However, I do not understand how your friends ps3 has issues loading fates. I play on ps3 and I can do everything just fine, the only times I have issues, is with the Behemoth / odin fates. and I am running a ps3 Fat 60 gb model from the very first days. (itt does sound like a jet plane taking off when playing ff14 though :p)

I totally agree with this. No idea why they'd put this out for ps3 when it runs so poorly on the console. I waited years for this game to come out for the ps3 so i could play, and for the product i got, i was very disappointed. I just wish they would have skipped the ps3 all together. I knew there would be limitations, like graphical and stuff but, even basic functions don't work well. Try doing fates around 7PM PST in the highlands on ps3 and tell me we got a fair deal.

well im playing fine killed titan HM without getting single hit by bombs or plumes

i can play better than many PC players with PS3

the only downside PS3 got is overcrowded FATEs like odin u cant see target

other than that PS3 is perfect

this was the main topic in my post though o.o dungeons are fine obviously with only 8 thigns to render, but compared to fates where they are done in 15 seconds opposed to the 15 minute timer it has.

If you really don't like it why are you or your friends still playing? I don't get this mentality that you have to play regardless of you enjoying it or not. You do not have to play.

Playing this game on PS3 is incredibly better by using an SSD. It's not unplayable to begin with the exception of fates but that is due to rendering times which is fixed with an SSD as it boosts loading times considerably. You can pick up a bargain and if you really insist on playing then it's a nice fix. If you want the PS3 version to be the PC version and don't plan on getting a PS4 then nobody can really help, it is how it is.

I can heal and DPS perfectly fine using a controller. Haven't done Coil yet (attempt tonight hopefully), but killed Titan a couple times as a DRG and doing some good speed-runs in WP which are quite stressful for my undergeared healer (I use <tt> macros for healing BTW; makes things easier. Select tank, heal as normal, <tt> your offensive spells and you don't have to worry about attacking an unclaimed enemy. D-pad to select other party members; just remember to organize your list right), especially when your PAL decides to pull 4 groups at once...
I only just got WAR today, but switching targets isn't bad in dungeons at all yet.

Swapping hotbars takes maybe half a second, and once muscle memory kicks in its just a quick flip to use some CDs or secondary skills. As long as you know where your buttons are, its not bad at all. But that applies to KBM as well...

Then don't do FATE. With the way things are, even the best PC get bogged down in Odin and Behemoth fate. There's just no going about it until they change the system for rendering priority in high end FATEs.

Also it's already been like 2 and a half month since launch. The player base is getting spread nicely with a good chunk already hitting their first lvl50. Now it's like an average of 5~10 players at most FATEs, which shouldn't disrupt PS3 gameplay unless you are just not good at targeting with controller.

And before you tell me FATE is the best exp and so on, tough luck and wait for the dungeon exp boost in 2.1.

There were never the normal hotbars in the PS3 UI. Since beta3 there is only the cross-hotbar.
Only on PC you can use hotbars and cross-hotbar together

Has your friend turned off attack/skill animations for players not in his party? I play on PS3, don't have the fastest internet, don't have an SSD to improve loading times and I can fairly easily gold any fate I participate in. I turned the animations for non-party characters to "off" to relieve a little bit of the fate lag, but it was far from unplayable before I changed that setting.

I understand the frustration that it may not run as well as it does on a PC, but I disagree that it's "unplayable." :)
