I was surprised to see that all houses are obtained via auctions and that for whatever reason there will be a limited supply that will be increased over time.
Why? What purpose does this serve.
My FC does not sell titan runs( I have no problem with FCs selling runs) and given that on Balmung those are going for 500k a pop, and today a FC did 22 of them. Thats 11,000,000 gil Today alone. They do this every day. Smaller companies cannot compete with that amount of gil generation.
How are the smaller companies going to get the Large house should they desire that when the way to acquire one is via auction. It could cost 1gil(of course not) or 600 million gil at auction.
Having a fixed price for a house is the better way. Even if it is 100 million, the smaller companies know what to work for. It was a bad idea when Aion did it and it is still a bad idea now.
Further artificial scarcity? There is no technological reason why there should be a limit to housing availability. If eq2 could do guild housing right in 2008 ish so can this game. Guild halls in that game were huge and were available to anyone with the money to walk to the gate and buy one. No auction, just yes I'll take one. Individual Player housing was done in this same fashion.
I urge the devs to rethink the auction and artificial scarcity. Do this right.

A: It will be the same for all Worlds. The land for housing will be an auction system, and will start from a high price and over time will become cheaper.
I have no problem with the auction system because it is a reverse auction system. If the land sits on the auction house for days, the price will gradually begin to fall. So it won't be going over the price, it will be going under. Now, you may not see super cheap land for housing at first, but over time once people buy their land you could see it more often. -

Semantics aside. They can price it high, but the price should be fixed. If I bid the exact price of the plot that does not mean I win and now own land. Nope someone can come along and out bid me 3-4-5 fold, because they can. This is just another strike against them for implementing good things in bad ways. Granted there are housing auctions, but most houses are bought by the seller saying, Give me X amount. You can either say here is X gimme, or how about X-Y.
First its the dye system. You cannot dye anything that you would truly want to wear. Next is melding. Cannot meld if there is no materia slots makes sense until you see over melding. If I can shove 5 where there is only 1 slot why cant I shove 5 or 3 where there are no slots. They take good ideas and twist them into monstrosities.
Honestly though artificial scarcity is the real problem. Do away with that at the very least.
As the poster above said about RMT. I can see artificial scarcity leading into RMT for land plots. -

The other thing that's unfortunate is that the FC's that have been selling Titan runs will be loaded for this, and the ones that are less...commercial... will be at a disadvantage.

This sort of thing is going to cater more to RMT than they realize. I so much have hard time they are fighting RMT by making more avenues to pressure players into buying gil. You say its virtual no big deal. But wait and see how many people will buy gil. Is there anything we can do to stop this before it starts?

They said they would open up new instances for housing as they fill up. The only thing you'd potentially have to worry about is coordinating with another FC to buy houses at around the same time to get in the same housing instance, if that's something you care about.

no one...Really i just got a Halloween Dimension in Rift (a full Haunted house and surrounding areas for free in game event) why would i need to to farm my life away on gil so i can afford some virtual FF house, honestly...

I think LoTRO did it best. They instanced the neighbor hoods so you walk in choose which street you wanted to be on. Then everyone could have a big, medium or small house. What the housing system SE has here is a very obvious attempt at removing money. They want to remove lot of money from the game. If the game lasts 3-5 years and none of the servers have any money then I believe this sort of things will happen.

It's like the PS3. You want it right at release? Ok, $900. You wait 6 months? Ok, $600. Newer model even later? That was around $400 I believe.
The auction system is the only real solution to server economy disparity. Non-legacy servers don't have quite the funds of legacy servers, so if it was a fixed price that they could match, then it would be CHEAP on legacy servers. -

30 plots per instance Land will be auctioned, no "official" house price yet just guesses but it is a separate purchase, once and instance is full no one else can enter that one and a new one will be created. So.... I have no idea what the hell more than 1/2 of you are going on about running out of land or availability.
People that want a house now will pay good money for them once the "rich" people have what they want land plots will get cheaper and others will start being able to afford plots. -

They should not have to wait until everything is purchased then attempt to out bid each other for the biggest plot of land so they can bid on the big house. Please correct me I'm wrong:
1) This is Free Company Houses -- therefore people can pool together money to buy one. If the price is 1Million and you have 20 people in your FC, then you can easily pool 50,000 each (this is nothing). In fact, 1 million is not much at all. Obviously bigger FC with more money can get bigger house. But that makes sense. A small FC can work together to build a nice little house and furnish it. More cozy.
2) Private Homes are in the future -- They indicate 6 months or so later. And based on what Yoshi said a long time ago, a person should be able to make enough Gil from doing the full story line that they can almost? buy a house. So I expect prices to be lower. Given all the free stuff we already have handed to use, its nice to have a couple things that you have to put a little effort into.
3) Given that land becomes more available over time, the price of land should go down. Instances are added (land is added) based on demand (which is the opposite of real life). So yes, you could buy now... but I would expect the price to go down later, so not a good investment. -
