Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

When the missing genders are released, I'd rather they were well done than haphazardly thrown together just for the sake of releasing them. When I mentioned pulling a Yugiri and having a "disguised" m!Viera/f!Hrothgar using a modified skeleton, I meant as a placeholder until they're complete, not really that they make that the released gender's model. Realistically speaking, if there are no assets made for them now it will take at least a year to make, given designing (can use the concept art as a base for Viera, or female ronso as a base in the case of Hroths), modeling, playtesting, debugging, fitting every armor set to cull clipping issues... and that's considering they have people working on it full-time instead of spread out in other content (dungeon and raid armor sets, for example, and pulling double duty as they could be working them to fit the future genders meanwhile)

I have a preference for an elezen or Au Ra body-type (either a middle point or a wide enough muscle mass slider to allow both) but that's neither here nor there except they could use those as a base to work off :D

DRG are in a very weird spot Lore-wise, in that it's MENTIONED that there's several other DRGs and the whole thing is an order but there's only ever one Azure Dragoon...until we come along and share the title with Estinien... Gameplay-wise we only see Estinien and that other DRG in the 50-60 quests, plus the nameless Dragoons in the HW trailer. AST is supposedly also quite rare in Eorzea/Othard but not to the extent of WHM (only one non-Padjali) or SCH (only one non-Tonberry...only one since the Tons apparently can't use their SCH powers anymore)

This is true. Though in regards to higher quality textures, it is incredibly common for artists to create textures that are at least double the scale of the intended asset. They save the texture (diffuse map) off in that higher quality state and then simply just compress it down to the required scale, which of course lowers the quality. However it means that it is incredibly likely that the devs have the higher quality textures already archived ready for implementation, should a graphics update appear that could support them all.

I don't think anyone would expect them to have male viera or female hrothgar ready by 5.0 or during 5.x. I think people are just wanting to hear they them say they "will" add them to the game in the future.

Alright so I think I got an idea of why u don't mind waiting. That being said, I do mind waiting for 2 full years to get what we were promised 5 years back and even more waiting for more than 1 month to even get a response. I do expect them to release them through 5.x maybe not 5.1 or 5.2 but SE prioritizes money over anything else and male Viera is one of the things that'd make them the most money

Because I am familiar with corporate pipelines in the entertainment/animation industry through my job. Don't get me wrong, I want both genders for Viera and have been quite vocal across pretty much every megathread involving Viera since HW. It is not feasible for devs to work on everything they have to work on on top of going from concept to player ready for two entirely new races (which is basically what the missing genders would be) by 5.1 or even 5.3. Think about it. 5.1 will be approx 3.5 to 4 months after 5.0's launch assuming the team does not get an extended vacation. While there are no doubt teams working on the .x content, we're 2ish months out of early launch and its crunch time for finishing the 5.0 final build. Across interviews and fanfest explanations they have said that they started female Viera around 4.1 to get Fran done in time and Fran is an NPC with limited animations, a fixed hairstyle, and a fixed outfit. It took longer than 3.5-4 months to make Fran. We aren't going to be able to use all helms at 5.0 for the two genders we are getting because for one reason or another they're not done.

Two years feels like a long time for players to wait again I've been waiting since HW /playdead but it is unfortunately (for players, at least) a realistic timeframe for a pair of new playable genders.

The answer is: No, you are not gonna get the Viera male. The gate is closed, there is no way.

Versus XIII that became FFXV
KH3
P5
Port of Mother 3
Skyrim
Male Viera since ffXII

so whats a few more years to the waiting so long as they come and look as good as the females polish wise

Dot. As Yoshi-P announced creating new races is a struggle for the team due integrations with gear and Viera is female-locked due lore, can't be more clear than this, Viera is female-exclusive race. Now go farm gils for ShB next raid as you'll need lot of consumables for it and finally play the game the way it's meant to be played. ;)

Exactly. A FF9-like vibe race/version of Viera might even be welcome (teen/tween as long as Akihiko Yoshida is the one making it). An Aura M clone - tool for people interested in ERP activities absolutely not. But yea, we're not going to get neither as decisions were made already and Yoshi-P couldn't be more clear at the FF in Tokyo. This is the natural reaction of tired and annoyed players logging lodestone and reading the most useless threads were there's ways more to talk about - things that really matter.

I totally agree.
To me it's just an excuse of the "I find sexy male disguting" camp. I've really been told that several time, while people got several design in head but whatever.

Fun thing is, I don't get why female Viera is ok and the second it's about a male it become taboo somehow.

I think it was Akihiko Yoshida that originally drew the male concept art lol

Akihiko Yoshida is the best designer in Square-Enix (and one of the best in all the gaming scenario today) together with Amano and Minaba, reason why I find it disgusting, disturbing and very sad reading people interested in male Viera exclusively for their eRP games in Limsa/housing as Final Fantasy is totally not this, not even ARR.
And again talking about an already taken decision is a waste of energy and brings nothing on the table, focus on the game itself, on the next expansion mechanics (lore, music, gameplay, whatever) and let's try to close the circle around the marginalized players interested in sexual activities till they finally disappear for good. That was planned for Heavensward, they chose Aura male instead; I don't know in what language we have to say it to you, but you're not going to get Viera male.

I've followed this thread since it was posted. I haven't seen a single person posting that wants male Viera exclusively for ERP. Having the freedom to visually express themselves in an MMO (a staple of the genre)? Sure. Even if they did, however, why does that even matter to you? It's something done in private on two servers. Two. It doesn't affect you in any way whatsoever all the way over on Chaos.

For Heavensward one race was added and you got both female and male options; a wild one as Yoshi-P asked and you got the Aura.
Now you get two different races and of course gender locked because it's already a struggle fixing the gear for the two of them; you're not only ignoring this fact Yoshi-P stated multiple times but you're also pretending to not know Yoshi-P announced FFXIV will have no more races as the work to do behind it is too much. So I ask again, what's the point of this topic?

To be fair, there have been some pretty creepy suggestions and images posted within this very thread. Though those individuals are thankfully a minority and it isn't a reflection of what most people desire when it comes to Viera men. I do find myself questioning the concern in regards to ERP, though. Viera women have been deliberately designed to be 'Waifu Bait' to a greater degree than their FFXII counterparts. Xaela/Raen women were the same way and such can be said about Miqo'te women as well.

Guys just completely ignore the 2 or 3 ppl that came to insult everyone on this thread so they can project their own inscecurites on everyone else. Let's change topics and ignore the trolls
