I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I pretty much plan to get a small house for all my alts. I don't see why I can't if I want to spend the gil for it. But to be honest, if they'd allow apartments to go up to the same interior size as a small house I would ONLY have a house for my FC. It's just that the single rooms are so small, it's hard to get creative in there. Also I don't care much about having an exterior or garden. I just want more interior space. So deluxe apartments would help a lot.

-A certain large FC owns more than EIGHT plots in Shirogane and even more in other areas.
-A certain individual got SIX plots in Shirogane by using alts.
-At 5:00 AM (a mere 3 hours after patch went live), there were 10-15 people in Party Finder scalping property as high as 100 mil for a small plot out in the open.
-I did not see this myself (as I couldn't even get past lobby error) but supposedly bots were warping to plots and auto clicking before the honest players at full sprint or on a mount could fairly rush there.
-FCs with one level 1 alt buying a house (basically a placeholder to secure a spot to scalp later and transfer high gil amount to their main). -

We absolutely need housing locked to one account (not per character and not per server). One personal, one FC and that is it. Until every player has at least one house we can't have more than our fair share of this apparently limited resource.
We need to stop house flippers/RMT bots from taking away what little housing we have for their own profit. Relinquished housing should be locked and unavailable for purchase. I don't care if we lottery for that open plot, have a wait list or it stays empty until next patch. As long as it's impossible to camp it and snatch it from a resell.
I have pipe dreams of being able to upgrade home size on one plot or have a better apartment system, perhaps with a pool, community garden and chocobo pasture but I'm not asking for grand changes. All I want is for changes to be made to stop those who would take advantage from abusing the system and ruining a housing opportunity from many other players. -

It's the little things like this, the fact they have taken the time to say something, that makes me love this game and this company, and it's a big reason why I doubt I'll ever go back to a game like WoW because Blizz would never take the time to make a post like this, let alone even consider putting in changes to begin this.

Just doubling or tripling the amount of wards won't fix the underlying issue.
If new wards are added, I suggest players who already own property on the server be prohibited from purchasing or relocating to new plots for at least a month.
This will give players who have never owned land a chance to find a property without having to log in and deal with the Hunger Games style madness the moment a patch goes live, and also give players who can't quite afford a house yet time enough to farm some gil. -

Good to hear, wasn't even able to download the patch due to error. Allowing one house and one fc house per account and server would be much better. I have no issues paying some form of rent to keep the house as well as long as its reasonable. Played a f2p play with these housing features, I thought sharing one house among all characters was much better than having to find a house for multiple characters.

I was one of those many who got a launcher error, by the time I got it fixed and managed to log in (half an hour after servers came up) our plots were all sold out on Lamia.
I know you are looking into people that bought to flip houses at inflated prices etc but this should show you there are more people wanting houses (and have worked hard for the gil for them) than there are houses available.
I do believe that restricting housing ownership to 1 FC plot and 1 personal plot PER ACCOUNT rather than per character would go a long way to both opening up more housing and stopping the people that are making profit from this. -

I agree with the idea of 1 house, 1 FC house per account. So many people buy houses on alts to either use or sell, while others just want the one house and cannot even get that. I think it should be 1 house, 1 FC, and 1 apartment for account, and apartments should be made a bigger than FC personal rooms.. aren't they also more expensive? -

An apartment is 500k an FC room is 400k? but apartments don't disappear when you leave your FC and they don't get demoed at least not yet. (knocks on wood)

I am in some ways encouraged, but let's all hold off cheering until we have the details. If, for example, only four more wards are added to each housing zone, we're just going to have another bloodbath. An unlikely example, but still a possibility. Just saying I'm reserving judgement.
The number of available wards should be proportionate to the server populations. Ideally, new wards should open when current ones fill. Shirogane was widely advertized. On the official patch site it's even listed above Shinryu EX. Players should never be arbitrarily locked out of content, and I worry that simply adding a handful of new wards will only reduce the number of people locked out, not eliminate it. -

Glad to hear a response to this, and that things are being looked into. Dreading that the solution will only exacerbate the problem more, in that it will just give the RMT flippers more chance to make that profit.
One house per account per server is fair. Make it the conscious decision of the owner to turn it into an FC house or not - you decide if you want to keep your house just yours, or if you want to make it available to all the other folks in the company as a home base. No more chances for RMT, flippers, whoreders (intentional misspelling), etc. to be greedy. I also believe that all alts on that server should have access to the house of the main character. Bam! Multiple-alt housing would not be a problem anymore. Doubling the size of apartments would also go a long way to solving the issue of folks who just want to have fun decorating differently between their alts.
Unless the solution that is come up with enables every single player in FFXIV a chance to own their own home, it will not be enough. I know this won't be a cheap or easy fix, but it would go a long way in goodwill towards the paying customer base, and making it less likely these folks stop subscribing, if it's a fair system overall. -

I worked hard over the last couple years to get these 2 small cottages which are on two different servers. I do wish we had about 10 more item to use outside the cottages. 20 isn't enough to make a smooth transitioning yard. 25 to 30 is

I believe the developers need to create more housing in all locations because many players are homeless and want housing. I’ve been saving for years now and want a place for my character to live and garden and keep training my chocobo. There needs to be a rule for one house per account not just let people buy a whole ward

Like someone else in this thread, I have to agree to the thought of making the personal housing account bound. Maybe allow the alts to have their own apartment and fc room, (unless that becomes an issue), but when it comes to personal housing, make it 1 per account where all alts can use it.
P.S. If you do have alts, maybe allow 1 personal house per server, (for those who have alts on more than one). -

I would actually like to see the ability for people that aren't lucky enough to get a house and could only grab an apartment get the ability to garden, since the only reliable way to get chocobo food is through gardening.
Especially if you're on servers with people that aren't as active as the legacy servers, the chocobo food isn't readily available on the market board. It seems a tad lame to keep a feature locked behind "Having a house," especially if the houses are so limited.
Also, yay. More Wards hopefully in the future.

I made a new post about this earlier, but since the feedback seems to be going here, I'll just put it here as well.
The main argument I've seen against housing instances would be the loss of community. Instead of living, breathing communities of neighbors we'd have glorified apartments with none of camaraderie that comes with the current district system. My response was that I'm already getting no camaraderie, so I'd rather have a solo instance house than risk not getting a spot if they release too few districts once more.
But what if we could have utilize both systems? What if we had a bidding system, where people would pay full price to purchase the size house they want in advance and then SE would know how many houses are actually needed per server. If they were interested in limiting houses per character/account, this queue system would also give them a way to check requests against accounts to keep one person from artificially inflating the numbers. Once SE have the numbers they can sort them into just as many districts as are required for that server.
What about the buyers that want to move into neighborhoods together? Well, what if we had a pass code system in place for people that want to be neighbors can place that code with their purchase/bid and get auto sorted together? Too many using the same code would mean some would be left out, but that could also flag potential hoarders as above. People have to be friends with others that use the same code, so that a person couldn't use their alts to try and take a whole district to themselves. People that give no code or small groups would be sorted into whatever open spots remained outside neighborhood requests.
The only limit I would put would be not being able to choose a specific lot. You choose size and hope for the best. That would require an element of rng, but at least you'd get into a spot and SE wouldnt have the headache of 200 requests for lot 30/60 and 20 for the less than prime spaces. Make anyone who wants the largest pay full price upfront with the knowledge that if rng was not on their side, the cost difference would be refunded afterwards.
Once the bidding/purchasing was complete, SE could drop the districts down in an update and people could find their new homes by looking for their character/fc name, or receive a mogmail with their address.
No racing for spots, no cursing server lag or reset connections. No element of luck in getting a house, only location.
Does this seem like a feasible solution? This was a sore spot for a lot of people with 4.1 and i don't want to see a repeat of this mess at 4.2, nor do i want us to lose the sense of community the current district system provides.
