Actually YES cats eyes/heads are large and cute like that. Have a look at Kitten pictures.

But she's mostly a human girl, so... it just looks weird.
Is what was said (very vague, though I think he might be saying no?). Also, it's a Miqo'te child (there's two in the game. One that appears sometime's in Idylshire and another you can talk to in Mor Dhona).Quote:
Q85. What is with the small Miqo’te that can be seen in that one area? Is this something we will be able to choose as a new race in the future?
A85. Please look forward to future development. It’s difficult to implement races that have expression limitations and other issues. By the way, Lalafell heads are too big to treat them as children!
That child with the fem-roe hair was just an Elezan girl. She appeared at the beginning of HW in a cutscene, too.
On the subject in question, I really think it is a case of "please look forward to it." There is enough interest in these two Miqo'te children as well as the confirmed never to be playable Padjal that a race fitting this chibi-fied, hyper cute anime look is likely going to come along down the line in some form or another.
And you can bet that the team will come up with a way to design them that both fills a niche of childlike cuteness while keeping in line with decent human morals. They pulled it off with Lalafells by taking them dead seriously in the context of the story.
This thread turned into colonial Massachusetts because of one word: loli'qote.
That's fucking hilarious.
EDIT: Oh, by the way, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fChCHY9TWs
Why? Who cares? It fits the atmosphere of this whole thread. Enjoy it.
I hate children and I don't know what the hell an elin is.
Ya'll need Talos.
Yes let's not also forget that this is an online game that you play with other people so social interaction is a thing. You take that and let people be able to play as a child that's going to cause problems. You never know who's on the other end of the screen plus we do have a marriage option in the game so how'd that even work.
I don't get the opposition of this thread. Child characters were playable in plenty of other games. I guess everyone hopped on the opposition train for some reasons.
In my opinion though, this character looks too young to be doing anything especially since, unlike lalafells, children are not strong or capable for combat. I wouldn't mind though a new childlike race since this game is lacking in this category. The choices you currently have are normal humanoids, very large humanoids and deformed babies. We don't have a smaller humanoid options such as Alphinaud and the Padjals. It could also have animal traits to please the people who are tired of humanoids such as the Tactic A2 moogles and since people are very fond of bunnies, make them bunnies.
Voila, problem solved.
Can we just play Padjals
I love these threads.
The reasons why we can't have child like characters are just plain hilarious. There are games where kids are/would be treated far worse than they would in XIV. They still were published, the companies publishing them are still going strong, and there was no media whiplash for it.
srsly. If you don't want child characters, just own up and say you don't want them. Don't try to hide behind some 'THINK OF THE CHILDRENZZ' excuse that is just plain BS in an attempt to come out a hero. lol I doubt anyone would judge you for not liking kids.
What games if you don't mind me asking? TERA gets constantly bashed everywhere for being the centre for children loving paedophile Elin ERPers constantly, on Reddit especially. In Skyrim you can't kill children and there's very few of them, the same goes for the Witcher 3 and most other AAA games, I don't even think there are children in GTA V. You were able to kill children back in Fallout 1 or 2 but that way back when the media wasn't so focused on video games, and even now the artists gets flack for that image he drew of the Vault Boy kicking a pregnant woman's belly for the child killer achievement/perk or something that didn't even make it into the game IIRC. Children in video games are quite clearly a very touchy subject, and there's absolutely no denying that. There is a difference between murdering children and making them playable, but you will run into problems with the swimsuits and subligars unless they were to censor those on child races.
Dude...
Can we please give this thread the death it deserves? We're straight up not getting playable children in this game, and the first few pages of this thread is the very pinnacle of this forum's toxicity.
So, this all comes down to "there is something we can't have because if we did have it, someone, somewhere would do bad things with it", right?
Sadly, you can say that about almost anything these days, one way or another someone somewhere will do bad things with it.
What bothers me more are the sweeping generalizations that almost vilify anyone (in this case) who likes the look of that possibly younger Miqo'te. Has this become a matter for the thought police and all of you have been deputized?
Metal Gear Solid : Ground Zeros. Paz and Chico are tortured, brutally, for information. The rape is 'highly suggested' to have happened. Chico is shown to have had bolts put through his Achilles Tendons. A hole is punctured into his chest that, in his now-mentally broken state, he uses as a headphone jack. When Snake rescues him, he freaks out to the point that Snake has to strangle him til he passes out, lest he alerts the guards. Paz is later found to be in a far worse state. Once rescued and on a helicopter, Snake discovers she has a bomb in her abdomen. It is 'not so delicately' removed, with Chico assisting in holding her guts in. This is shown. She comes to later, informs Snake there's another bomb where 'Snake would not think to look' (guess), then promptly leaps out of the helicopter and explodes.
In the next game, Phantom Pain, we find out the resulting explosion maimed several key characters and killed Chico. Another 'what if I had...' cut scene happens where the doctor... goes for the second bomb. It's not shown in graphic detail, but you *know* what just happened. Snake later encounters a boy around 12 named Eli who tries to kill him using anything he can get his hands on (knife, bottles, pipes). This results in a non-lethal beat down that is about as violent as anything in XIV would be. Eli later attempts another stabbing on Snake, who gets annoyed and just dislocates his arm. On screen. Pop. He then pops it back in out of pitty. Pop pop. Then there's the whole slew of child soldiers you can mess with. Grant it, being lethal is instant failure. But let's say you wanted to run full speed at one and sock him in the jaw with your robot hand, or send your cattle-prod equipped wolf-dog to zap one... 10-4 Good buddy, have at it.
Dragon's Dogma let you create a child-like character. In this game, you went after all sorts of monsters and witnessed some very gruesome things. But the key thing I want to point out is that you can romance any NPC in the game. ANY. NPC. IN. THE. GAME (except like 2). That includes children (who you can do all sorts of things to, like throwing off a cliff). You are treated to at least two 'pants on hugging' scenes. 3 if you go for the princess.
Those are the 3 top of my head examples.
Hell, even Mortal Kombat has some sort of giant ridding midget kid looking thing now. Grant it, all fatalities are performed on her uh.. mount? but she's still the one gutting and ripping people in two.
The violence in XIV is so very, very tame. That's the main thing I find hilarious about these threads. Things get blown way out of proportion. We get set on fire? No we don't. Look at what happens when we 'do'. Our characters shrug off EVERYTHING thrown at them. We are essentially invincible. Nothing leaves any damage to us, except our hp. And even then, we just get 'knocked out', not killed. And hell... when my lala goes down, it looks more like he's saying 'Meh.. I'm going to take a nap. Right here'. rather than 'omg the pain!' The most gruesome scene in the whole game reminded me of the scene in Toy Story where Buzz lost his arm...
I could see the hesitation if there were blood, gore, guts and dismemberment.. but this is nothing. DBZ has way more violence towards children than XIV ever will.
As for swimsuits and subligars... Those can be easily edited, (the subligar probably should). But I do need to point out that brief-style swimsuits are popular through out the world. The US is one of the few nations that seem to have an actual problem with them.
As for that drawing of the perk.. Yeah. That IS distasteful and he should get flak for it. But nothing like that exists in XIV.
Oh god, I bet it was. It never ceases to amaze me how people can get so wound up about exactly what constitute p0rn with regards to something that is drawn and includes no real persons at all...
...and now I shall wait while people make assumptions about me and start throwing completely undeserved mud in my direction.
Link please.
Point is, it still got published, did it not? Did you see anything about it in the papers? Did you see mass protests and the hysteria that people claim will happen in XIV if we get child characters? And my point still stands. What happened in those games were far, far more violent, graphic and terrifying than anything we've seen in XIV. And yet, they were published.
What about Kingdom Hearts? Sora starts around 10-11 years old. That game is just as violent, to perhaps just a little less violent due to lack of arms falling off, and it's an extremely well received game. The only thing I saw about it on the news was 'Hey look! Disney characters!'
Also, Pokemon. Under-aged, unsupervised child goes around poaching dangerous animals and participating in legalized animal fights and gambles while dealing with a criminal organization. Only the extreme whack-jobs find fault with that game.
Child Link in OOT and Majora's Mask.
Hanbei Takanaka in SW3/4/OW3. Child CAWs in DW8 Empires (mow down THOUSANDS of enemy soldiers, and get married and have kids to boot).
Suikoden. Child characters join AN ARMY and participate in massive battles. If the child is not essential to the plot, he can be killed in that battle. Killed off for real. Also, Pilikia witnesses the ruthless slaughtering of her parents. The leader of said armies is usually a tween and duels people to the death. Tir can even order people to be executed.
Last of Us and The Walking Dead (TaleTell). 'Nuff said right there.
FFXIV of course.
There's an adorable child Miqo'te adventurer who shows up by Midnight Dew (10-29) from time to time. She does vanish, so it's easy to actually miss her.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind turning her in to a retainer and sticking her outside as a sales girl, but actually playing as a child or seeing one in the dungeons is a little off-putting.
Great pic btw.
i went back to look at the NPC and circled around. the tail is more of a bunny like race.
so maybe a tease on what a new race might be. add the small ones around and after awhile in time. they grow up and become the next race? just that unlike Au Ra, we do not know where these came from just yet.
I wouldn't mind it, just remove access to eternal binding and clear some space for your blist when all the assholes, pedos, and flat out childish players make fun of or harass you so you have space for them. FF14 is too "infested" to have things like that.
I think that Japanese Bobtails can have tails like that, so why not a new variant of Miqo'te? A bobtail option would be cool. I actually have 3 bobtail cats and 2 of them, the tail is very broad, and fluffy, like a rabbit tail almost. One of them, called Neko, looks not unlike this
http://www.moggies.co.uk/breeds/bobtail.jpg
...though my Neko is a little rounder and has less white socks and more color.
Tera is a terrible example. Its like comparing lalafells with Elins, which is exactly what it is. Lalafells can live up to, idk, 200 years or so? Elins live just as long if not longer so its pretty much hinted that every player that picks these races are in the adventurer age range. Like Hodgepodge stated, there's plenty of games with children in them, npcs, enemies or as playable characters, examples: Sonic 2- (oh yeah this counts) Tails was 6 in that game. Witch and the Hundred Knight - The protagonist as a 8 year old brat was brutally assaulted by an evil witch and was being strangled, but it was hinted the little girl killed the witch and became one herself, also killing her own mother turning her into a mouse and eating her for trying to stop her from being evil. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance-you play as 2 12-14year olds exploring the world of Ivalice, monsters war, dungeons, betrayal yadayada, I have more but that's just to prove a point.
I'd like to know exactly what makes the build of a lalafell differ from that of a childs and how it would effect them in a world where monsters shoot red cones that flash where they are gonna attack you, you can't die but seem to faint whenever some meter over our head depletes that either requests you to respawn somewhere or await someone to cast a spell to revive you, some sort of number showing how powerful you are in some strange magical menu, and weapons and armor that seem to change size depending on the person or race. If your talking about morality of children in this game, well just look at Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Kingdom Hearts, and Legend of Zelda, and Ape Escape, shall I continue?
lol Exactly. Let's not talk about realism in FFXIV.
In XI, I played a tarutaru (precursor race to lalafell). I was a monk. I'd literally punch a giant camel's toe -HIS TOE- until he died.
Just don't. lol
Wow, Kojima is one crazy nut (not in a bad way, though). Fair enough though, but I do think there's a difference between sexualizing children (which Tera does extensively) and real world depictions of violence, which I guess is meant to impact you deeply? Not quite sure, I haven't played MGS V, but I do know the reasons GTA V got flack for its violence was due to the mindless nature of it. Running over people for fun and the like, I do think the media coverage was completely bogus and it's all just fun and games though. As for Dragon's Dogma, I wasn't even aware you could romance NPCs, is this a base game thing or an addition to Dark Arisen? Not sure how I missed that if the former but I did a quick Google search and,
it's obviously a joke, but it didn't go unnoticed completely. But it's a relatively unpopular game so it doesn't get as much, if any mainstream media coverage (which is a pro in my book). I don't think that artist should have gotten flak, but rather the company he was working for. I mean, when told to draw something to represent a child killer I'd say he was rather creative and tame in that regard, much better than the alternative of a happy Vault Boy brutally murdering a child, don't you think? Here's the image for those who haven't seen it.Quote:
In honor of the release of Dark Arisen, I’d like to share a story with all of you. A story about how half-assed game mechanics lead to the creation of something terrible. A cautionary tale about how freedom of romantic choice, without any substance to back up that freedom, made me into a monster. The story of how Dragon’s Dogma turned me into a pedophile.
- Every Elin player ever.
But seriously, don't give me that crap. They're quite clearly pandering to that specific audience and it works, Elin's literally saved Tera. Here, I did a quick google of "Elin costumes" and what do I get? An oversexualized preteen like character wearing something very risque (image below, probably NSFW I guess). Obviously some people play Elins because they're cute and people like cute things, but don't go around and say they're comparable to Lalafells. Lalafells resemble potatoes while Elin's are children or preteen in appearance, and some people clearly do play them to sexualize them with these developer given costumes as they sell like crazy for $$$.
You can gift any npc with any item. Keep giving them stuff and they'll develop a pink hearty aura when you approach them. It also changes the game dramatically. The person the dragon kidnaps is the person with the highest affinity towards you. It is in the base game, yes.
As for sexualizing the characters, that all depends on what SE makes available. They could alter the sexy outfits to appear tame (the bunny GS outfit could look less like play boy, more like Easter Bunny). Or they could flat out assign the kids their own 'gender' (programming wise) and simply disallow them access to those items. Honestly, other than maybe 3 outfits, there's nothing in this game that could not be altered slightly to make them look less sexy. They could easily put some sort of 'undershirt/shorts' type of things for the Colosseum gear. Two piece suits can be altered to one. Look at SE's past at handling kid characters. They did so tactfully, for the most part. I just don't see them lacking in common sense and letting these characters get uber sluttified.
