Yeah I can see where that would be a problem :/ If you really want to cancel C&B, just get a new card :/

Still, just as good of a reason to make sure this thread doesn't drop off the front page. I think Square-Enix is either A) kicking the can down the road, or B) Trying to pretend that ClickandBuy is not trouble.
If those who have a personal interest in this issue would help keep this thread on the front page, that would be appreciated. I don't think Square will like seeing their huge glut of PS3 users coming, discovering that ClickandBuy is ready to screw them over, and then leaving in droves.
Sadly they r even putting FFX11 on this aswell. i was thinking getting back on 11 but not now. maybe we should do the same to 14 as ppl are for 11
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...-way-no-thanks.
Yeah I don't plan on letting it die down. It's just too big of an issue for me. I don't like dealing with crooken companies. I understand that Crysta is available and that is most likely the option I will go, however I do feel for people who can't use C&B or crysta or the ultimate card thingies.
I wish I could see what sort of vice C&B has SE's nuts in that would make them move XI to that company as well.
Probably business associates from Eidos, or the Yakuza. The Yaks have a lot of involvement in legitimate business operations like Square-Enix, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were intentionally making their customers easy targets for a hacking operation run by the Yakuza.
To be honest, as it is now, ClickandBuy is a VERY toxic asset, and are not worth the potential collateral damage to Square's customer base. I think we need to find who are current shareholders in Square Enix and ask them to pressure the company to get rid of CnB.
You really think the Yakuza would dabble in a company like SE? I find that hard to believe, however...I don't know a lot about the history and culture of Japan...so who knows...regardless yeah I would like to see the stock holders in SE...would be rather interesting....I think.
The Yakuza were involved with Nintendo, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. I don't know how we can find out who's a Square-Enix stockholder in the Nikkei, but it's something we'll need to figure out soon if we're going to pressure Square Enix to do the right thing...
Everyone that played FFXI assumed that any changes to the billing system could only be an improvement, after years of double billing, overcharging (reactivating for the last day of month = $12.95 for 1 day + $12.95 for the next month, plus $2 per mule), lack of subscription based billing cycle and other issues. But they were wrong. Dead wrong. It could indeed get worse.
Thanks everyone for helping to keep this alive. While it's not as popular as the FFXI thread with over 1,000 posts, for a community of our size it really shows a large chunk of players feel the same way. As this is currently the largest thread on the FFXIV forums dealing with payment concerns, a community rep response is long overdue.
I agree. However, I feel as if Square-Enix is trying to kick the can down the road by keeping quiet about it - or the community reps are too afraid to actually bring the issue to the attention of the top brass in Tokyo. There's SOMETHING that led Square Enix to choose ClickandBuy over a proper, regulated American payment processing company - or doing it themselves. To me, this suggests that there have been business ethics violations on the same scale as the Livedoor scandal, and Square is probably trying their hardest to keep a lid on it.
Well, it's going to be impossible to keep a lid on it as long as users are willing to quit over a lack of reliable, trustworthy payment processing options.
P.S. Side note to Square Enix: If ClickandBuy tells you "we're reliable, we're trustworthy", and you're willing to put more value on their word over the customer's, then there is a very serious problem going on internally at Square-Enix...
I could be very off base with this observation, and if so correct me, but I've always felt that the Japanese business model revolved around the fact that JPs are more docile and less vocally objective than in countries like the US, so they don't tend to cry foul like we would. Negotiations are done in pubs and taverns over many drinks, and it's customary for one or both parties to bring "gifts" to the meeting, including money, women, jewelry or other incentives. Don't confuse gifts with bribes though - they're two very different things!
If something goes terribly wrong and an apology is needed, it's a very overly melodramatic affair where someone falls on their sword and accepts responsibility, instead of laying out a clear and concise plan out action to remedy the situation. (Tanakaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)
Which works great. If your only customers are Japanese clients. Since they're not, antiquated business model is antiquated.
You've nailed it on the head. Square Enix is not a multinational company in the strictest sense of the word, so they ARE still adhering to Japanese models of business, which are not viable in the West. Falling on the sword analogy is very apt here, and I think we're going to see that happen again when the sh*t hits the fan over ClickandBuy, resulting in someone from the top brass taking an early retirement...
I think instead of resignations, how about EXPLANATIONS? Give us some insight into why decisions were made and we'll tell you if we feel it was an understandable mistake or if you should clear out half your staff! :D
And instead of profuse aporogies, why not use an ounce of prevention..? Common sense is anything but common, but you can rent it by hiring independent firms to research and analyze multinational payment gateways and payment options.
I am really wishing that Square Enix is listening, because for god's sake, I am NOT paying in crysta or via ClickandBuy for FFXIV! EVER. The way UltimatePay and Crysta works is a waste of money for people outside Japan.
What's ludicrous is that I heard that Japanese players can buy SPECIFIC amounts of Crysta, to conform with the subscription cost without having to buy a ridiculous pre-set amount.
This just goes to further show that Square Enix seems to be every bit as determined to piss off the world outside Japan!
So at Nintendo Iwata took a 50% pay cut in response to the poor performance of the Nintendo 3DS... I think I appreciate that better now. But at least Nintendo have acted quickly and concisely and thus stand a chance of rebounding. Squeenix.... not so much.
It reminds me about what I learnt about customer behavior and their expectations varying around the world.
- Americans want people to run around them involving as many people as possible to get a problem fixed, regardless of how costly or time consuming.
- Germans don't really care about the customer service as long as the product quality ends up being top notch.
- Australians are really lazy and want the first person they speak to to push the magic "fix" button and take care of things behind the scenes quickly.
- I guess the Japanese want to see the person responsible take responsibility.
(Remember, these are general trends and don't describe EVERYONE in the given nationality.)
You'd be surprised. . .
Tiny bit of self bump. Gotta keep posts coming in every day people or the thread gets buried and we lose! Can't let the fattycats win!
Actuallly at this point, all of these above at the same time.
-It would be nice to know if they are working on it or not
-I honestly woulnd.t have to care if the product was top notch this shouldn.t have to happen
-I want it to be fix right now have better payment method is the basic if you want to get pay.
-If someone hired a compagny like ClickandBuy no matter what country or position they better take responsability!
But honestly I don't know what they thinking, because here in canada at least they can get sue for hiring a compagny that have fraud report against them.
Quoted from another thread where I went somewhat off-topic. Square doesn't understand the meaning of "toxic asset". If you limit your customers to certain toxic assets, you end up poisoning your entire property. You don't want to do that to Final Fantasy...Quote:
I disagree. They still have a few silver stakes stuck in the body that, if left in, will cause necrosis and damage the property irreversibly. ClickandBuy is one of them, Arcell. We only have two options outside Japan to pay for our charges, when subscriptions resume: CC through ClickandBuy (UK-based company) or Crysta (Acquireable only through CnB or UltimatePay).
There have been a LOT of fraud reports filed against ClickandBuy, and many of them remain unresolved. Most of these problems involve double-billing, failure to comply with unsubscription requests, unauthorized transactions, among other issues.
I personally know a few people who have been ripped off by ClickandBuy in the past. One lost 1700 british pounds to their unethical business practices.
If Square Enix does not offer a more trustworthy payment option (ie, PayPal) when the PS3 version comes, a lot of PS3 users will realize just how bad CnB is and become VERY disillusioned with Square Enix. There have already been a huge number of complaints coming from the FFXI community over ClickandBuy, and even with that, Square has yet to provide an official or unofficial response on the issue.
Which tells me they are unwilling to tackle the problem...
The end result? Lots of people joining FFXIV on PS3, then quitting within 3 months. Just like FFXIV PC launch.
Square still hasn't learned a damn thing.
Well...here the issue then...if indeed the Yakuza is behind SE and the C&B...then what could a lawsuit do in reality except maybe destroy the company and then the Yakuza would just move on to the next company of w/e it takes to make money...so in reality...it's the mob that's the problem and running the show...like back in the day when the mobs ran Vegas....
Found this, here is a link as well but I will quote it here::

^So we will have to pay the 12.99 + Whatever per character + whatever per retainer + if we don't use EUR or GBP be charged a 5.9% transaction rate every month too? .... *confused*Quote:

Q: Will FFXI/XIV users paying via C&B be subject to any additional administration or credit card usage charges?
A: As a FFXI/XIV subscription takes direct payments from a user's chosen payment method, it is not necessary to store funds in the ClickandBuy account. Therefore the charges outlined below will not be applicable to anybody simply using their C&B account to pay for their FINAL FANTASY XI or XIV subscription. Should a customer wish to use their ClickandBuy account for additional services, additional fees may be incurred. For more information on these, please refer to http://clickandbuy.com/GB_en/
Users may incur various charges when utilising a C&B account. These include but are not limited to the following:
- ClickandBuy charges a 'pre-loading' fee of 3.9% of any transaction into your ClickandBuy account when using a credit card.
- There is a handling fee charged for withdrawal of funds from a ClickandBuy account of £1.85/€1.85.
- If a ClickandBuy account has been inactive for 1 year and contains funds, a maintenance fee of £1.00/€1.00 may be charged.
Please note players paying for their FINAL FANTASY XI or XIV subscription in a currency other than EUR or GBP will be subject to a foreign exchange rate of 5.9% per transaction.

And just for the record, other threads where people have been or are complaining about the current billing system FFXI/FFXIV has/will have::Quote:
Q: Why is Square Enix switching from the PlayOnline billing setup to Square Enix Account billing?
A: Square Enix has opted to employ an external company for the processing of payments to offer the highest level of security to customer transactions.

Wow, Kai.
This just illustrates the immense stupidity...NA players are a large segment of their playerbase, so is it really a smart idea to force them to pay in a foreign currency? Seriously, just wow.
If I were in their shoes, I would have gone with PayPal...
Edit: I am completely and thoroughly convinced Square-Enix is not listening. As a result, I doubt I will be staying on with Final Fantasy XIV when subscriptions resume. I may end up going to Phantasy Star Online 2, TERA Online, or SWTOR.
I reiterate this: At this rate, Square Enix will not be able to break even on the investment costs being put into FFXIV, if they do not offer other payment options by the time the PS3 version launches.
Edit2: Does ANYONE have the phone number of someone in Square Enix that we can call to complain at? I'm getting tired of sitting on my hands hoping for something that is NEVER going to happen because of Square's lack of listening ability.
Those are the two I am interested in (more so Tera), and as much as I love FF games if they don't give us more payment options I don't know if I will stay. It's a shame, start enjoying the game and get (possibly) run off by a bad payment concept.
I'll keep playing as long as it's free... but if they say they are gonna charge and these are the only options i'll have to seriously consider my options.
btw my friend is playing the JP beta for Tera, he is enjoying it and says it's good.
I thought the artwork for Tera was beautiful myself. Yeah it's a bit flesh-y but I wouldn't think provocative thoughts about a diminutive child type creature running around in a bathing suit.. it's something I see every day lol! I don't have any kids but all of my friends do so I have to tread carefully to avoid stepping on any munchkins. But I guess there are sickos out there that get their jollies looking at that stuff. It's a shame too, because I really love the outfits in Tera.
This is a serious concern of mine at this time. C&B ended up causing the replacement of one of my credit cards. FFXIV went live, I set up my account, and attempted to sign up with C&B... and had lots and lots of issues, ultimately leading me to believe that my account hadn't completely finished setting up. I fired off an angry e-mail about the whole mess (since at the time we all still thought we'd need to be paying fees in one month)...
... and the first response that I got as a result of attempting to set up my C&B account was from my credit card company wanting to know if it should approve a charge from them.
>.<
Needless to say, I said no. My card company assumed that the number had been stolen or otherwise gotten out "into the wild", and killed the card number.
If SE sticks with C&B, then I will have very serious misgivings about continuing to play the game once it finally goes live.
To be honest, a part of me wishes Square Enix would bury FFXIV for good. The reason? Their choice of payment processor, ClickandBuy.
My situation with them is untenable, and I am not interested in retaining them as a payment option, nor am I interested in wasting an extra $5 on a monthly subscription through UltimatePay's game time cards.
At this point in time, I am about to be forced to have my bank cards cancelled and replaced due to ClickandBuy's utter failure to respond to my complaints. I have to take measures to protect my financial stability. This does NOT help me, because I already have outstanding preorders for other games and products at Amazon using the one credit card that is on file with ClickandBuy. This means I would have to wait for the new card to arrive, and then proceed to update all of my CC payment options with trustworthy systems.
This is the one thing Square Enix has failed so far to understand regarding ClickandBuy, and sooner or later, they will be forced to shutter FFXI and FFXIV because of customers refusing to be forced to choose between two very untenable payment options.
With each passing day when Square Enix does not address this problem, the more I begin to resent both Square Enix and ClickandBuy.
In fact, that resentment is already beginning to coagulate into something of a hatred.
This is a dangerous sign, Square Enix. A fatal one.
P.S. This thread was meant to help wake Square Enix up to the dangers ClickandBuy poses to their MMO products, and after...two to three months of solid complaints and forum threads on the topic, there's still no official response on the issue.
This kind of ignoring the problem is exactly the kind of behavior that will sink the company in the long run. Hey, Community Reps, I hope you will at least tell us that you're passing this on to Yoshi-P, because this is fucking serious!
I've watched all these forums spring up with these threads, and still no official response, or even an unofficial one? It reeks of cronyism, corruption, and stupidity. My perceptions, and intuition has rarely, if ever, failed me, and it won't fail me now. Mark my words, if this isn't fixed by PS3 release, Square Enix is going to be sunk.
P.P.S. The reason why I say Square Enix is sunk isn't solely because of their choice of ClickandBuy...I could list at least five other possible reasons. All of which would contribute to Square Enix's untimely demise, merger, or buyout by a competitor. Here's one of those reasons: In North American countries, it is against the law to commit financial fraud. International companies are not immune, especially those who have business licenses in the United States and Canada.
Also, I'm finished with trying to be civil about this issue - I've tried being polite via support channels, but received only a curt reply suggesting I use ClickandBuy or UltimatePay (which did not sit well with me). ClickandBuy has pushed my patience too far, and with Square Enix's silence on the matter, that has pushed me to the breaking point. I will continue to enjoy FFXIV, but as soon as subscription fees kick in, I am gone. No MMORPG is worth this amount of stress.
I take my financial and data security very seriously.
It's been how long and still no response. Unbelievable! I would love to see a lawsuit or a boycott. I think it would be hilarious because apparently they can't understand these issues. What's so hard about a multi-million dollar company having a payment system directly through them. I don't understand. Blizzard has one for wow. Others have one for other mmo's. We demand a response because come pay to play time, I promise that at least a couple thousand will leave that are currently playing. When the ps3 release comes out and they see that they have to go through this garbage as well. Hey, guess what? They are going to leave as well. Last time I checked you (SE) can't afford to do this. Please don't take your customers for fools because that will be your downfall just like the first release of this game. Remember without us customers you're nothing.
Also whoever is in charge or makes the calls for your payment system, do us all a favor and fire them. Get someone who isn't a total idiot. I also see that many are leaving Final Fantasy XI due to this issue as well from what friends are saying. Hopefully I suggest you be proactive in getting some other payment system in order asap!
P.S. Remember we as customers are doing you (SE) a favor by staying, not the other way around. Get your priorities in order.
Yours Truly,
Angry Customer
If you truly feel like organizing a boycott please start a new thread to accomplish that. The purpose of this thread isn't really to force SE's hand regarding payment options, although I'd much like that. Its real purpose is simply to gain as much exposure as possible. You can speculate about the integrity and sanity of the company all you like, but when you start gathering a posse of people willing to quit the game with you to prove a point, or speculate how much money they will lose, you're pretty much guaranteed to have your thread closed.
Also, I appreciate whomever decided to clean up the tag cloud, but I had preferred to leave it as it was so that people can discuss the situation while keeping in mind that lulz aren't forbidden. A little light-heartedness goes a long way to keeping a controversial thread like this open (others have been shut down). And especially the "cnb killed my father" tag - I created that one. Because Click and Buy KILLED my father. And raped my mother.
Ive used payment methods like this before, so what is the big issue with the Clickandbuy? Ive not seen any abuse with my CC info.
But yeah, paying directly to SE like you can do with Blizzard/WoW is ofc most preferable :)
If you read the whole thread people have put up tons of reason's why C&B is not a good company. They have a F rating with the BBB, they have complains against them about reopening accounts people have closed and starting to charge them again, they have fraud charges against them, players that live in the EU have had their banks tell them not to use C&B because they have a bad reputation.. etc etc.
You're talking about 250+ posts out of the 350+ giving reasons why NOT to use C&B. If you want to know more just read the thread.
I hope SE realizes that people like me WANT to stay with this game and WANT to play... it's just the two options that they have given aren't like being stuck between a rock and a hard spot... you're kinda eh either way... *sigh*
If I remember correctly one of the Dev's did make a response over on the FFXI forum, but it was kinda one of their famous "we are looking into it" responses. Someone did post it up here on the thread at some point showing they has said something to the FFXI players...so they have said.... something to them... >.>;
I don't even care if they said we are looking into it, I'd just like a Dev to say 'yes we see this thread' though I am sure they have, how can you miss it? XD
I hate the payment system with a passion
Me "here, take my money please"
CnB "No."
Me "wut?"
they really need to ditch them before launching this game for real
