The Solo disease?

Honestly he did infact state from the first post on he does not like to group. And openly admited he questions why people group in the first place. And in my opinion does this in a negative way.
Solo'ers can pick and choose any mmo. There will be content that people can solo. And there will be content meant for grouping. This comment was stated several times.
His treply has been "why, why does content gotta be either or, why can content be both?"
the replies back have been "because that is the way it is, and that if content is both people will choose to solo over grouping because there would be no need to group, that even if you do want to group you get mocked"
he then replies, back "your just saying something that is made up, there isn't no rule that mmo sare about grouping. or your just saying "your right and i'm wrong"

By diffinition that is infact attacking someone.

They don't rule my game as i can do other things. Options are handy there. But yes i do agree with you that i dislike them and please don't force them onto me as i'm sure there are many things i would like implemented that you would dislike. And before you say this is a FF title and group based that is BS. FFxvi was previewed as a having BOTH solo and group based content.

I came to this game with that promise. I left FFxi because i couldn't solo when not grouping and when i read that it was going to have solo content, i was like, wow, cool. gotta try this out. Hopefully it would be like ffxi but without all that boring stuff. And although i left FFxi years ago i still thought the battle system was better then what i have come across prior and after FFxi.

You're half-right. You didn't talk about being a red mage in this thread, but you have mentioned it in another past thread. (probably multiple)

truth be told After abyssea was launched i ended up soloing alot or just duoing with my then bf. As getting a group under level 75 was non existant. So again I have no hate for solo'ers just those who are rude about it. I feel the OP was rude about it, and actually asked the op why this topic is even up, as I never seen anyone complain about solo'ers ingame or on these forums. To me he is simply saying "i join mmo and play solo, I do not and even dislike to group, got an issue with that too bad" He wants people to understand his side, and his side only. And wheb someone agrees that he has a right to solo, but then adds "but expect group content at some point" he posts like that is a personal insult.
And constently askes "why it needs to be like that?" To anyone who does this. Ingnoring or attacking any explination. Again this is in my opinion. :)

I mostly suggested for him to be less rude. If he wants ppl to understand his pov he can do so w/o the self entitlement or soapbox "i speak for soloist".

I repeated said I do not mind solo'ers unless they are rude, or effect the game negatively. When asked by what I meant. I did reply to him on what happen to me on WoW. Pretty much idm solo'ers but if an mmo has nothing BUT solo'ers it can be hard on those who group. Or at least is what I meant to say :)

fyi ffxi is alot more solo friendly now when it comes to leveling they doubled exp and made it so ppl can solo tough mobs. Pretty much I was getting 200-230 exp a kill solo :P

Sorry but this was your stance way before content came into this argument. Maybe my comprehension skills need some tweaking but what i got out of the OP was that he was questioning the hate for soloers and not asking for solo only content in his initial post.

Your first post states most solers are rude and that they/I should play SP games. An mmo in itself should be massive and should support all playstyles and not be niche. The more ppl who play means more money for SE (oneday), the more money, the more support, the more support the more content. Keep it niche and you'll find less groups and less gear to find. SWG was the first mmo i played that had a crafter class. It was great when ppl played, top gear, top stats and in abundance, but try and find any decent gear now.

I'm not attacking you in particular but you are the person replying. I am just defending the individuals playstyle as i play both ways and see from both sides.

It's unfortunate that I come back to see nearly twenty pages discussing the same issue as before, which isn't even focusing on the original topic. ahh ok. That was taken out of context :) I didn't mean for him to go play sp games. :) Sorry if it sounded like that :). At the time the way it sounded (and still does) is he hates and will refuse to party. To me as well as others stated clashes with the concept of mmorpg. The way he sounded was he was not interested in being apart of the community. And As you can read I did appologies. And did say that my stance was based on experience with solo'ers (not including my solo friends) That the stigma soloers have is due to how rude that sound when Either 1 they find out most content at end game is group based. 2 when asked to party, bluntly refuse in a rude sounding way.

If i was rude, Then I'm sorry. I must been 1/2 a sleep. As i forgot nor seen I wrote that. :) I prob was sour from reading the OP sounding self entitled.

But he did sort of proved that when people did state they do not mind solo'ers but there will be group only content. Which he started fuming.

then tell sony to get rid of the character limitation so I wouldn't have to. :) I only multi post if I can't fit everything. I post from my ps3 because it is the only way I can acess this site. The pc I play ffxiv on is not mine and I only have time ti log on and play.

But persitent SP games like oblivion are just that. SINGLE player. You cannot talk to a friend in the game world. The person standing next to you is not another person, he's a computer generated character that you cannot interact with other then what the code behind the game allows you to.

Just because a person wants to play their characters solo does not mean they don't want interaction. I for one love getting chatty while grinding away. In fact i am more social when i am playing solo as i can take my time doing all kinds of things. When i am in a group and am more focused on the job at hand rather then the social aspects. Actually i do not get social untill the beginning and the end of whatever we need to kill or what we need to do.

Back in the day when FF7 first came out me and my friends hooked up multiple TV's in a room so we could all play our FF 7 files, O.o i don't even think people do that any more. IMHO i play Massively Multiplayer games for the epic group content, if i want interaction i call up a friend and we chill while playing games.

Of course though to each their own, i just don't feel that wanting to interact with people occasionally is a reason to play an MMO, I'm more apt to believe the OP's reasoning about the immersion factor of MMO's.

Hey options where was you when I typed my more option = more players = more fun topic? I could used ya in there XD. Like I said idm if he plays solo, or they add solo content. But being a group mmo, there will be group content more then solo content (yes there are various styles of mmo: solo, group and social) All three have content that is solo and content for groups. Solo mmo have more solo content, Like WoW. The only group content in that game is bgs and raids. Most everything else is soloable. ffxi was a more group mmo. It did have solo content, but most content was grouped. And second life is a social mmo. It has both but is more about chatting.

ffxiv is trying to have balance between group and solo content. Like levequests can be solo or grouped. From what I seen. Most ppl solo levequests even though doing them as a group was supposed to be more rewarding and fun. And people give the reason "why bother grpuping if it can be solo"

I talk to my ex- b/f while I play over the 360 chat. (and secretely wish for an elder scrolls mmo with its radiant AI and story) But i know that. He didn't say anything about talking to others in is starter post. Just (joke incoming)

Its not just about interaction. Its a persistent gameworld, its to kill shit, its craft, gather, dungeons, grinding, farming and much more. When you finish a SP game it ends, thats it or untill there is an addon or a sequal. An MMO you can keep going. Its a genre and all kinds of ppl play it. And the same person might play it in a different style depending on their mood. I may want to just grind 1 mob one day just to get a specific item off of it, then another day i might wanna group up and do dung runs. Other days i may just stand in the one spot and chat away to friends for hours.

Sure there are other games i can do one or the other and sometimes multiple. But in MMOs i have em all. If an MMO doesn't have want i want to do at the time i am sure there is a SP or MP game that does. My game collection is quite a site ranging across many platforms so i am sure i have plenty to do.

But as i like to play SP games, they usually get clocked in a matter of days, where an mmo can keep me going for a long time.

It is rude when soloers say that and i have seen it myself. I've seen many ppl in guilds who say nothing in guilds. I find it weird, but each their own. I don't dislike em for it tho. BUT, those ppl are not all soloers.

May i ask you a question tho? Do you ask before you invite? Cause i find it rude (going way back in the early days of mmos, ppl use to ask before inviting) when i get a random invite without any social interaction first. I myself usually ignore someones invite request without talking to me first. I don't decline i just let is stay there so they can't spam the request over and over

I'm the same way 60% of the time on ffxi i was running around aimlessly chatting to me LS (while waiting for an invite ) 10% was hanging with my then b/f the other 30% was soloing (forced but sometimes wanted) idm different play styles or more options just not a solo'er joining and demanding the choice to solo group content. (not saying this was op stance or every solo but some did act this way)

I do not hate ppl, even if I claim "i hate rude ppl" that is just my opion and I do not go up to them and say that to their face. I try to be nice and do not hold grudges. (unlike ppl here in some cases...) I do not block people for a fight or disagreement. Only time I do is if they verbally harrasse me or talk to me in a sexual tone.

Whats wrong with harrassment or sexual tones? I love it when ppl do it to me. Maybe its the sadist in me but i love thinking up witty comebacks. Keeps me entertained when i have those arguments.

When your stalked in an mmo, it kinda get ewwwwww. Four 3+ mnths I had a guy using multi account/ character to constent tell me about kicking a guy in the nuts. Everytime I block him another name comes up. And would start sending me tells almost the second I got on.

Pretty much this happen to be daily. ::log on ffxi:: name>> would you kick a guy in the nuts me: no. name>> would you do it for money? me: no.

pretty much repeat that over untill he threaten to call a gm on me for not coming forward and admiting that I was infact a guy. (i'm a woman) aka this dude was psycho.

3 it is best to see both sides of the same coin when it comes to the solo stigma.
4 that there are different types of mmo, solo, group and social. And to buy an mmo that fits you style.

I dunno about point 6. tho. As its been years since i played FFxi and spent the last 5 yrs playing wow i am not sure how se setup their dungs. But going from WoW dungs you could cut back mobs totals and weaken bosses for solo or smaller groups. I say this but in no way they should get the same reward. I would like it so those ppl or myself when i'm bored, be able to see the content. But since it has been dumbed down the rewards should be far less then what the harder group based content get.

ffxi dungeons were not set up like WoW ffxi was a group centric game while WoW is a solo centric game. I more said that for the same reward just couldn't fit it. Which is what OP wants. I wanted to do quests in WoW with other ppl. And got laqughed at saying they can be solo very easily and a group isn't needed. And lol'd at me for even looking.

You are outright questioning why all content shouldn't be soloable; why it shouldn't scale so that a solo player can do everything and it's not "group only".

You do argue that it should balance nicely between grouping and solo and not be "one extreme or the other". However, that reads more like an attempt to soften your real issue, which is clearly voiced from the soloers point-of-view, and is slanted quite clearly in favor of soloing.

To put it another way, let me ask you this question, and please answer it honestly.

Would you be so moved as to create a thread like this one, making the statements you have, if FFXIV was made entirely soloable? Would you care at all if the game had no group-focused content at all? Would you still feel so compelled to voice your 'concerns'? Or would you be relieved that "finally" there's a game that fully supports your playstyle?

I'm gonna take what I think is a safe bet here and say it wouldn't trouble you in the least.

For example, I love going out in the world doing my quests and running into some others doing their quests, crafting, harvesting, whatever. Even seeing an occasional party run by off on some errand, makes the world feel dynamic and alive. It feels very lonely in instanced world games like Guild Wars, where even though it carries the title of MMORPG (which I do not think it deserves) you will never see another living soul out in the game world unless they are in your party. I do not have to like party mechanics to want to feel a part of a larger community.

Also, offline RPG's are a poor substitute for an MMORPG. The content, even in the largest games with the most DLC, are still a fraction of the size of a typical MMORPG, and tend to have relatively short lifespans where new content is released, and then its off to the next one.

It's not a common mistake you want an alive world I understand that but what is the point of having other humans behind these characters if you do not interact with them. That is what I meant by the illusion of a dead community many solo players but, NOT all. Do not communicate with the rest of the community that does not help an MMO grow it helps it die. Like I said I hope they start making MSO games for players like you where you can see everyone running around doing what they want but not much party play. Never understood having an alive world to only look at it, not interact and be a part of it.

So far this game has solo content only (if you count leves as content then maybe a little group content).

I don't count pure grinding mobs as content, if so , then thats the only group content we have.
Missions are SOLO only, Class quests are SOLO only, crafting ofc is SOLO only, and quests are also for soloers.
The game has nothing to offer for groups.

For a solo rpg ffxiv so far lacks everything ... thank god there are still nice solo rpgs out now that i didnt play yet...
I DO hope ffxiv gets an mmorpg and doesnt stay an online solo-rpg with group leveling... *sigh*
(dungeons wont cut it... has to me so much more)

This game needs a lot of GOOD solo content, and a lot of GOOD group content

fable game sorta do this well 2 and 3. With gold and an online connection and setting you can see player orbs in the game and if you want to join in their game. (with out player consent but do give you a kick option.)

That is why you shouldn't be the "voice of the people" not all soloers community talk with ppl they play bythemselves.

Even the worst rpg is more alive then ffxiv is... unless it gets major design changes so not everyone is at one place only and the environment gets more interesting, i don't see how people play THIS game because the world is alive...

its a polished graveyard with rmts all over and some whiteknights pretending so hard having fun (ok that was trollish but i couldnt resist)

jeez fable is a popular game to talk about on here XD was in the ach opting out thread and ppl talked about fable 2s achiv system

back on topic. TDJ if someone qoutes this, I would recommend rewiting your OP and focus on yourself, and how you feel. And not sooist ingeneral. As alot of people stated not all soloers are infact act like part of the server communities. And also suggest stop being defensive when group play gets mention and the possiblity that if you play a final fantasy mmo, group content maybe the focus.

i just hope they make a world that IS alive already so you get excited and want to interact with it no matter if solo or in a group. But i think its really hard to implement both good solo and group content since that means to add different storylines or at least different views on certain events.

The same as with crafting or DOL classes... The parleay option is a weak feature, they shoudl never do the same quests,
they shoudl have different views on whatever is happening. Getting special resources for battles, or an alchemist should smuggle poison into the enemies tents to weaken them or whatever... but if they wanna do all the directions at once, they have a lot of work to do and a lot can go wrong at the same time.

If they manage to cater to all classes and solo and groups in a proper way then ... wow, (not the world of w. wow), ill be impressed really.
