One dungeon per patch!?

Considering how dungeons are never really challenging and are interesting only first time you play through them, i don't feel like game will lose too much. Hope resources that normally go to dungeons will be relocated to something good.
Hard dungeons can still be added if they decide that msq needs trial and not raid that time. Only real loss is probably the music, only way i can do experts right now anyway is to mute everything but bgm.

They were each allotted, and made from, development time that was available despite having more dungeons than we have now. That allotment didn't just disappear. Whatever that amount of time it afforded in HW could afford in SB should not therefore be considered a consequence merely of removing a further dungeon. That'd be like saying you can have 3 of A and 2 of B or... 2 of A and 2 of B... despite neither likely getting any costlier.

What's next? We get 1 dungeon and... only as much side-content as we had in SB? And we'll be cool with that as long as they say that the time spent on dungeons will be spent on side-content? (All without noting that the time that was already being spent on side-content, prior to the removal of another dungeon was subtly halved?)

I'm fine with losing a dungeon, but I'm not fine with blindly expecting that we'll get noticeably more out of a shuffling of development numbers. I've seen too many games call an overall reduction (or no increase in output despite an alleged staff increase) a "re-allotment" of development time to be so optimistic now. When they show me what we're getting in total, and that total seems better to most than what we'd have had with a dungeon more per dungeon patch, I'll be happy. Until then, I'll be wary.

They were made in Heavensward, which only had 3 more dungeons (but 2 less normal trials, 1 less EX trial, and 2 less Ultimate fights) than Stormblood. Switch out Diadem for 1 Eureka zone, and you still have the other 3 zones. So the "3 of A and 2 of B or... 2 of A and 2 of B" just does not fit.

So, again, a single extra dungeon with few to no new art assets (Hard Modes) gave us both Pagos and BCoB Ultimate, another Pyros and UW Ultimate? And that's all it took? Nevermind any staff increases. Nevermind getting one fewer job. It's all just the single dungeon per major raid patch?

I believe that the 2nd dungeon is being removed to free up resources to work on the ARR 2.0 MSQ rebuild, add a new story mode trial each patch and the Ishguard reconstruction quests. I remember that Yoshi once said that it was going to take a large amount of resources to fix the 2.0 MSQ so thats probably where most of the work is going.

I spent more time on Ishgard than I have in the Grand Cosmos, though I imagine that will inevitably change now that I moderately care about capping tomes again. A friend of mine literally did the dungeon once and never again. For us, everything you listed was better overall.

Those numbers became more spread out with UwU since more and more people were streaming their progression, which Lambdafish already highlighted. Now consider everything in both UCoB and UwU is 100% reused assets. No new models, animations, designs or anything. In fact, the devs revealed somewhere around 90% of their budget for UwU went into engage. Basically, the whole fight was cheap to make yet it garnered ten of thousands of views on arguably the largest streaming platform in the world. Not hard to deem that a smashing success. So much so, they decided to add new models, animations and even a whole cut scene to TEA. A developer doesn't increase the budget of content unless it's proven successful. At least not a smart one.

I doubt square enix measure "success" by how good it does compared to wow. If its about viewers on twitch, they most likely compare view count of when content in question is released to view count seen normally. So, for example, comparing 10000 viewers of when content is released to 500 normal ones, its a good call for developers to see if that content was successful or not.

They would've compared ffxiv to wow if it was released at the same time as wow, but its not the case, and i dont remember anyone in sqex stating that main goal of ffxiv is to beat wow. I dont really see the point in comparing something like viewer count on 2 independent games from one another. What exactly plant farming of usi guy in wow has to do with how ultimates fare in ffxiv?
