Never said I deserve anything, Im just simply not gonna give my spot up for some 'john smith'

"White knight," you say. Was it really necessary to resort to such a trite saying instead of expressing an actual opinion?
SE was at fault. They failed to prepare properly for the game's launch. But the past cannot be changed. Until SE fixes the servers, we as a community are left with two options:
1) Work together to ensure that a troubled launch is as enjoyable as possible for everyone participating.
2) Act only for ourselves, caring not what lasting impact our actions have on the community.
You are free to believe what you will. As I wrote before, I do not expect to change the opinions of anyone. I merely express my disappointment and (faltering) hope that the community will improve/recover over time.
So if I buy a movie ticket then told sorry there are no seats....you think some random stranger is gonna get up and give me his seat to enjoy the movie...that we both paid for....NOT A CHANCE IN HELL....so why would people log out after battling through all the bullshit youre all so fond of....cuz it would make me a 'nice guy?" hahahaha what a load of shit.
I'm sorry but no... When you work full time and have responsibilities which limit your playtime, spamming 0 for 5+ hours isn't exactly how you want to spend your weekend. One could argue that's not a very good approach to the situation, what makes me so entitled to play over others? let me ask you something...
Why should I log off? so some random stranger who wouldn't do the same for me can play while I remain locked out? so some random stranger that couldn't care less and is probably gonna AFK as well once he or she gets in?
Increase the capacity, fix the login issues and implement an AFK kicker + Server Queues and we won't have this problem. Giving strangers an open spot isn't worth me sitting there for hours spamming the login, my friendly gesture will go unnoticed and the person I opened the slot too is probably an ass anyway.
You're upset because you can't get in, which is completely understandable and that's why this thread was created.. Having said that, I bet the OP is also AFKing now that he's logged in.
Don't blame the AFKers because you can't login, they AFK for a legitimate reason.
Your comparison is faulty. A more apt example would be if a group of people were told to show up at a theater with limited, unreserved seating for a screening of a movie, and one person decided to sneak into the theater before everyone else to guarantee himself a seat.
Actually your example makes no sense because none of us 'sneaking in' the game....we all paid and follow the same Terms of Agreement like you....afkers arent some random uninvited gues to the screening....were just lucky enough to get in while you guys spam enter all day.
I even get the 1017 error at the character selection screen. I log out when i am done but it is getting to the point where i just feel it would be better to stay logged in.
I never said it was "Acceptable" I'm saying that it's a legitimate solution because if everyone's doing it, it wont make a difference whatsoever if ONE person decides to log off to be "nice" because in the end, they will get screwed too.
Why should I limit my play time being "nice" when 99% of the community isn't going to follow suite? if everyone did it, of course I would log off... but knowing that my logging out will cause 5-10+ hours of spamming and I have just given someone access to stay logged on forever and AFK, it's not exactly a "nice" thing to do anymore eh?
You need to calm down, go outside or something.
Nope. I left it out because I am limited to a 1000-character response in my posts. And so as to meet the limit, I left that particular part out for two reasons:
1) It was a personal attack on my character (and not the argument I raised).
2) You added that part in as an edit to your original post, which caused me to deem it least relevant.
The issue is of course primarily with SE, although it's amusing how people playing an MMO - a game based almost entirely on communities, the type of game where social skills will supposedly get you furthest - have yet to grasp the fundamentals of good manners or altrusim. I don't know any of you guys personally, but as soon as I heard there were server problems my first thought was "better log off when I take a break so other people can play".
It's not the sole cause, and not even the primary cause of server issues, we know that, but why would you knowingly add to them? In a way it says something far worse to new players or converts to the game than "SE have a few tech issues they need to sort out", it says "the community isn't very helpful" - and that's not something that can be fixed by buying more servers. That starts with you.
altruism does not exist - everyone does things because they get something out of it, whether that be a "feel good" feeling, or something tangible. Even ppl like you, who log out, are only doing it so you can "feel good" about yourself...
im not logging out to ensure i can play the game instead of play the login screen, something more tangible then "feeling good" about myself
and no, i do not have a lack of "community" because i dont log out, my FC and LS mates are not upset about it at all and they all do the same thing so we can all play together
Actually, you're oversimplifying that one - I try to be nice because I feel that being considerate of the game's community as a general attitude improves that game's community, in however small a way, then that in turn improves my experience of the game. Also you're defining the word "altruism" as an absolute, you're referring to "pure altruism" which is an ideal and a bit out of context in this case.
like i said, everyone does things in order to get something out of it for themselves, and you are trying to "improve" your game experience by logging out...
my game experience is fine when i dont log out as is the game experience of everyone i play the game with, so i dont have your reason to log out, sorry
but i DO have a reason to stay logged in - so i can play with everyone else in my LS and FC instead of play the login screen
It still tickles me you all think that the handful of people who are AFK are the reason you can't log in during peak region hours. It never occurred to you that maybe it's all of the active players spamming the login server, huh?
Coming from someone who doesn't AFK for more than an hour or two, I hope SE doesn't implement this. It wouldn't fix anything. You all would be back here the very next day complaining about not being able to log in.
You guys are making it out to be like people who don't log out are what's wrong with the world. We aren't that bad guys, we just like to play the game instead of sit at the login screen. If I knew everyone had the same "I'm a good guy and going to log out" attitude then I would too, but fact of the matter is that if you don't just go afk then you are losing.
Sucks that we have that kind of mentality but until there is some great awakening where we all decide not to be d*cks to each other then this is going to keep going.
If I'm not playing, I'm not logged in. It seems to me to be the right thing to do. So that's how I roll.
Now because no one will not log off no one else will get to play until at least Thursday now because its impossible to get on. Get the hell off the server so others can play too. We all paid money, if I was a GM I would ban all of you
Because it doesn't solve anything. It's not like as soon as one person logs off, another person logs on, and it's not like there are thousands of people sitting AFK for 12+ hours. Most people can't leave their computers/PS3s running that long. They can kick maybe a handful of AFK people off, but then only a handful of people can then take their place. You still have thousands of people spamming the login server. It doesn't even make a dent, yet you all (not you specifically) are treating it like it would solve the 1017 problem.
Ridiculous.
Exactly this, I am on gmt on an NA server so I tend to get on when the Americans are asleep, but I always log off when i'm done, it's just unfair on everyone else to hog the space.
I think you're confused about the word "altruism". Just cause it makes you "feel good" doesn't stop it from being altruistic.
You're not logging out because you're selfish. Simple as that. Ironically your post proves her point.
Of course you have a lack of "community". Again, you don't really understand the word or you'd understand her point. What you have is a gang/thug mentality.
I had no problems getting on. My turbo controller lets me attempt to log in automatically (just by taping the button and setting the interval for 0.5 seconds). So I just do whatever for about half an hour, watch some Breaking Bad or Big Bang Theory, and I'm logged on with no effort.
Are you not being selfish by demanding that he log out. He wants to play just as much as you do, the only difference is he actually got on and doesnt plan on sitting in the log in screen forever and ever. Grow up and realize this is how the real world is. You look after yourself and your friends and forget everyone else cause they arent important. I wouldnt screw myself over just to help some random stranger and im certainly not gonna log off just to let someone i dont even know on the server instead of me.
People, stop complaining... it's not healthy that you complain 24/7... I believe these rage and blaming posts affect the community more than what the AFK people harm it. One thing you have to understand is that afkers will remain afk and will not change. Stop getting on the matter over and over again, posts in the forums will not make people leave the game. I'd suggest just keep trying to log in.
P.S.: Not because you log out means you're a good person... just saying. Because then, when you log out, someone else will get in and then when you get free time to play what would happen? You would join the 1017 team for 30 mins - 10+ hours, I don't think anyone would like to pass through that.
Lucky enough every time I get off I can login between the first 30 minutes, could be my time zone.
Doesn't matter how long I get the error for, I still log out every time. Like others have said, it's only right. I want to give someone else the chance to play. I'll be ok if I have to wait until next week to play a darn video game. Goodness gracious, people.
I wonder if the reason SE is not implementing auto AFK kick has to do with certain statistics, such as number of concurrent players. SE recently announced a record-breaking number of concurrent players. This shines a good light on the game given all the positive press surrounding the story. But what if the reason for all of these players "playing" at the same time is simply the fact that people are not logging out....ever... so there is no player rotation or expected population fluctuations throughout the day/week/month?
That's an awfully caustic mindset.
Flawed too. It relies on a sort of bandwagon mentality. Everyone else is a jerk so they can be too?
Well sorry to say, but a jerk is still a jerk. No matter how many of them there are.
Instead of wallowing in their own self pity, perhaps they could step up and show everyone how much better they really are.
Well, in this world, there are two types of people. The ones who strive to make the world better than it was when they came into it, have enough empathy to think about others, and try to be fair. Then there's the opposite... you. Of course, as your kind often does, you will defend yourself by saying "grow up" to people who don't think it's right to be a jerk. Like the only way a person can show maturity is to be a selfish prick. That... makes no sense. But it also tells me what kind of person you are. I also regret that you're not on my server. If you were, we'd all B-list you and make fun of you afterwards.
pause right here.
this right here is you saying "your opinion doesn't match mine. i and my friends are going to persecute you for it".
if that isn't bullying i'm not sure what is, honestly.
sigh. these internet moral debates certainly are interesting, if nothing else.
I'm logged in overnight!
.
.
.
.
... but I'm actually playing overnight!
Several things could and should have been done until such time as the data center issue is resolved to facilitate the trogs that waht to stay logged in for 24 hours a day.
1. Rolling restarts at noon and midnight PST for NA servers
2. Kick idle/afk personnel after 30 minutes
3. Expand the queue to host at least 500 people
Some people have no desire to coexist with others, and these people are part of the problem. Yes the data centers should have been ready, I know I have no desire to pay for a game that I have to sit for hours on end trying to get into my server. The SE team has done a great job making alot of things in this game the way they should have been in the initial release...now if they had done some forecasting...
There's "bullying", and then there's "not being friends with jerks".
Shunning someone who would push a person out of their wheelchair and laugh at them is not bullying. Nor is calling that person a prick. I never said we would persecute anyone. I just said we'd B-list him and talk and laugh about him later. lol
If there was an actual AFK kick system and a TRUE server queue system there would be no reason any of this would be happening in the first place. Let's hope this fixed and addressed this week.
I got kicked when my modem crashed and now i can't get back in
