I have people in my LS who get to the 20% sp and 10% SP mark regularly. Either way this system and wows system are totally different.

Remove it please.
Sorry my english bothers you. I am sorry you took my post personal. I just dont like it when people spread misinformation. People dont understand surplus and that really isnt our fault. Its a faulty system that was never explained very well. In the end it just needs to be removed.
Tony I did not take it personally, from my view we just have a difference of opinion. Yes the system does eventually hit 0 after you hit like rank 5 surplus, Yes 0 is horrible and may need to eventually be tweaked. But in all honesty to me it is just in name, wow had a system of "Bonus" XP based on how long you were offline it eventually degraded as you XP in a given week, that eventually reset every week. In FFXIV you take that same system call it surplus say this is your cap and it resets to that every 7 days based on when you start SP a given job in a given week. Difference is for some odd reason WOW is considered the greatest achievement in MMO history and if you are not WOW you fail. 90% of what people are arguing for is based on what WOW did, ppl seem to want WOW with better graphics, god help us all when SE puts PVP in and you don't get SP for killing in PVP, you have any idea what kind of blacklash that is going to cause. This SP Surplus is the same thing it is all people really have to complain about because it limits what you can do on a given job in a given week. Does SE need to be more flexible yes, but also keep in mind the content of this game is not there yet, the systems are not tweaked, SE needs this surplus to keep a player base around otherwise people would be level 50 in like 4 days.
Hard core players are always going to be hard core and grind through it. It really does nothing but create more unhealthy environments. I gained R40-50 on THM with only 8k SP needed to get to 50 before it reset. I'm not proud of it, but I could have shaved off one to two days of grinding if I didn't have surplus.
The admittedly obsessive rank grinders are just going to be grinding longer. If your intentions were to get players to stop grinding and take long breaks. Guess what? They arn't! So, get rid of it.
Get rid of fatigue!
People keep going on about how WoW has this great system that rewards people for playing less, leading them to get rested XP for being offline.
When the system was first released it was presented kind of like what we have now in XIV, where you would gain less XP after a certain amount. There was a major backlash at Blizzard for this, and eventually they changed the system a bit, but mainly they changed the wording to be positive, by granting players extra XP before going into normal xp mode instead of limiting XP gain compared to normal xp after a certain amount was gained.
That said, the system currently utilized in XIV I too find limiting, and would like to see revised or or outright removed, either would be fine by me.
...btw i don't mind about this system coz i can rank 1->50 in 1-2 month easy with LQ and multi link with friend....
but for DOH... i feel alot bot syn all around the world so...i play from 8.00 do some local go got support at guild ... i see one lalafail syn.. after that 12.00 after lunch i relog come syn... that one is still syn that place don't move....20.00 i wanna clear local before my LQ trip run... that one still syn and not move for a day wtf... why SE not change from 100% to 0% instant but make more limit effect like suplus from 100 90 80 70 60 50 to 100-->0 when got surplus 50% and btw 100-50% just got full 100 but have effect warning you already tired. i play every day around 5-6 hr never touch 30% surplus cut yet even go 70-80k sp per day... so if think for who lose 12 hr per day play game everday.... that one should back to look up Real Life even RL suck but that is his life he should not run away from that to game
Bumping in hope that when we log on Friday with full anima THERE WILL BE NO FATIGUE.
Surplus would be nice if removed, adding a system that mimics FF11's chain feature would be encouraging for the "non-casual" player base. Allowing the player base to enjoy the game with out limiting their progress.
Even if they lowered the SP gained outside of Leves, then implemented the chain feature to increase the amount of SP gained. this would be slightly more rewarding then say... being held back if you play to much (Grind SP)
Would also encourage group play and faster kills, I for one enjoyed trying hard to get that higher chain number
Since they changed Doblyn/Coblyn HP amounts, people have been grouping more, but you're still completely right.
There needs to be more incentive to group up with others. It's just a hard issue to balance because they seem to want to satisfy solo players as well. Personally, I love solo play, but I also understand that this is a MMO and you really need to side with the group play mentality. What is the point in playing online when you're not interested in experiencing it with others?
Anyway, XP chains are a magnificent feature and a system like this would fare well with the current system. However, then you have to consider how the system is going to change in a few months though all the battle, class, armory changes. Maybe it would be healthy to wait a little longer and see what happens.
Very true BruceyBruceyBangBang.
They can always run two systems in the same game, Guildleves act like FoV did in FF11, a more causal play style allowing those with limited game time to achieve a good amount of reward for their time.
Now if they added the chain feature much like FF11 did, they would encourage the other side of the player base to go out and preform to their best.
As for solo players the chain feature would help them with finding an easy to kill monsters, then maximizing their abilities to kill faster and achieve a better SP gain as well taking up the Guildleves
This would keep all sides happy.
Just remove it its a terrible mechanic!
I am requesting a reply from the Dev team on this topic.
Anyone know what the correct dev tag is for this topic so I can put it in the title?
The principle of Surplus SP still makes players not want to play. Don't tell me to ignore it, I am well aware how little it actually effects a dedicated leveler. The only people it does NOT affect are the hardcore players who it was meant to slow down, they ignore it. For casuals though, the thought of a game limiting your play simply results in many people not playing at all.
I agree that it needs to go, especially before people start paying to play.
Nobody wants or expects to be held back from playing a game, if SE are worried about us hitting cap before they have end game .. too late, don't punish us for your lack of development speed SE !
agree!
that stupid yellow surplus never went away from me but it can't stop ppl playing
why SE have to worry about player's healthy? we are not WoW players which a lot of them die from leveling
The surplus is in effect to deter ridiculous exploits such as astral burning. That said with leve-linking in a 4-man party with aspect doing 6 leves each in one sitting, we can each hit surplus. The current state of this system is just so rediculous that I hit surplus on physical 50, in spite of my not even gaining physical exp...
agreed. if all I want to do is level one job... the for crying out loud, let me.
(i actually want to level 0 jobs cuz of how boring this game is)
I would be fine with the removal of surplus if a feature like this was added. Otherwise I would fully expect them to raise the SP/exp requirement for rank/leveling. Even if you level 1 class with surplus we get to cap way too fast. I think people just don't see it that way because the games so boring it seems like it's taking forever.
I wouldn't mind seeing a quest that would allow us to decrease the rate of fatigue or eliminate it all together.
Logged into Camp Horizon for behest, logged out after seeing zero players at the camp site. I guess I won't have to worry about fatigue today.........
>.>
I agree /10
I don't think it should be removed until players learn self control so that FFXIV doesn't have to try to nudge them into it.
I've been playing since open beta and until last night I'd never ran into surplus SP. Don't stay in one job and don't play for 8 hours a day and it's not a problem.
At least turn it off for now while they redesign the battle system.
I used to have the same kind of mentality...until I was starting hitting it working on TAN in my early 30's. There is no real reason to have it, and many believe (myself included) it is just a cockblock implemented to keep people from being too much higher than PS3 players. Considering the PS3 release is somewhere down the road, I don't see the need to keep surplus. Hell they can get rid of guardian aspect as well if they want to slow down SP gain a bit, I don't have a problem with that.
Why in the Flaming Bunny Marshmallows is this thread still alive? Surplus will not affect any normal humans in any nominal way. Considering leveling any other class will lower your surplus on other classes and if you say "Hell no" I say "Bugger Off". SE and XIV are catering to a certain crowd, IE Not you. There are other games for your play style available to you.
Yes please!
Remove the surplus please, let me craft all the day without wasting my hard to farm mat's (looking @ Flax >.<) by skilling up under surplus ; ;

Hi Everyone, this is Yoshida.
Thanks for the discussion about the Surplus system.
There have been threads about this on the other region forums that talk about the same thing, and after we're done implementing the raid dungeons, we'll consider/investigate the basic removal of the surplus system. I think it would be best to let the players decide their own playstyle.
YES! A winner is you!
If they where to remove the surplus system I think they would probably adjust the sp curve as well or adjust sp in general. With the current sp with leves with no surplus it would put you under 4 weeks for 20-50 with only leves.
Hello fellow adventurers! We have some comments for you regarding surplus from FFXIV Producer/Director Yoshida himself!

Hello everyone! This is Producer/Director Yoshida!
Thanks so much for the discussions on surplus points. There have been a lot of threads in other regions on the same topic and many of the comments have been the same. Along with the implementation of new dungeon and raid environments, we’re looking towards the direction of basically eliminating this system.
I feel that it’s ideal that players decide on the play style.
nice ! That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind in Eorzea !
This is one of many steps needed to get me back into the game, great to hear!
