I don't normally speak out against changes and I'm pretty capable to adapt to them, but this change is ridiculous. There are so many better ways to deal with it and the way they are right now is preposterous. I could care less if they implement it or not, but if they feel this change is needed then so be it. How is it not pay to play material when most mmo's cancel your spells when you move. To each his own i guess but at the end of the day even if you guys cry for it they have the final word.

Mages not being able to move in PvP will make them sitting ducks.

He said he will explain it later. For me, that is unacceptable. I can see no rational reason for this. It is yet another in a long list of bad design decisions without any explanation.

He should have just told us why now.

Mages are sitting ducks at the moment to be honest only time I really cast and run was in DH, and it was that very part of the mechanic that made that dungeon so lame to me cause you could just run thru and cure bomb your way pass everything.

Listen, If the resident evil series taught us anything, its that you can't move AND shoot at the same time. Ever. This feature is being implimented to sit beside the brilliant and TOTALLY acceptable feature that that series introduced. I fail to see the problem :p

Let me keep you up in pace. This change is a placeholder for another means to cancel your spell which will ultimately not be triggered by the movement of your character. So, why this and why now? Sounds cheap and unnecessary. Also, the "I'll explain later" doesn't help.

This is what I mean when I say, "Not pay to play material". That's completely fine if it is for you, but this is lack of common sense were combating mainly. Not exactly a spell interruption system.

1. We're NOT lazy. There are easier classes to play that don't make or break a party nearly as much.
2. Mages being officially 'locked' into one place is going to affect DD's and the Tank WAYYYYY more than it'll affect us.
- Now you will have to stay in range to get heals. In the past, you might not have noticed it, but Mages were CONSTANTLY running behind you all to buff/heal etc.
3. The only battle we really get to 'stand still' in is Ifrit. (and the only reason mages stand still in Ifrit is because it's the safest thing for us to do...DD's do more or less the same thing. Darkhold is just a bunch of crazy running. By the way, Darkhold just hit a whole new level of challenge. Even exp parties are constantly on the move.

Now the only reason many of us are 'crying' is because it's a HUGE change in playstyle. I'm not saying it's a bad change, but we know that it's going to be a huge adjustment not just for the mages casting the spells, but for the other party members to re-learn that 'Hey, the mage can't heal us while we run away from them now.'

Reasons why it might be a good change:
1. Mages will still be able to change positions move etc. Just now we have to do it without casting.
2. We always were only able to semi-move (we always stopped moving as the spell was leaving our hands). This also created issues as tanks and DD's typically would run out of range while we were casting.
3. Mages will be able to quickly move out of harms way. Currently we might try to move (even cancel the spell and try to run) only to get locked into still casting it and getting hurt/killed.

I think mages can have something akin to MRD's steadfast... where when they stand steadily, they get bonus for WS, regular attacks, etc... and when they move, they will just have regular attacks with no bonus.

so, when mages stand still for 3 seconds, they can get a serenity where there will be a 10% bonus on magic potency, etc...

yah, people argue that praying and running is probably not the most pious thing to do, but hey, sometimes i do need to start praying when i run away from danger... standing there trying to pray while taking a beating is so much more counter-intuitive

Is it that "the new spell will be cast instantly" or "the new spell will begin to cast instantly"? If it's the latter I don't think it would have been anything worth mentioning but if it's the former, effectively wouldn't we be able to start casting a spell, move, and if we hit the spell again it would continue casting from where it left off or fire if it would have been done casting? If it gets handled that way I think it's pretty nice.

It was said many times that spell interruption was going to be initiated by jumping. So, now it's just movement in general. This is a placeholder.

Surprised nobody is commenting on this. It seems ripe for abuse by players. THMs can cast Blizzard, move, stop, cast another spell. CNJ can do the same, cast Aero, move, stop, insta cast Cure. I'm not sure whether attempting to cast a spell in the middle of a combo would interrupt it or not, but if it didn't, then you could do Thunder, Thundara, Blizzard>Move>Stop>Thundaga.

Ahh, but this is where your mistaken. There are multiple threads of page upon page of posters specifically asking for a manner to interupt therecast do to animation lock restrictions and cast times.

In all of those threads no one really mentions a good way to do it, all they do is blatently complain about the issue and that there should be away to break a spell cast and its animation.

Now they got what they asked for and are complaining about it. Again, its be carefull what you ask for, you just might get it.

That does seem really good i am thinking of ways to abuse that right now lol. At least they are not penalizing for having to stop your cast tho.

I neither was asking if there was a way to interupt a spell, nor was I asking what Yoshida said. I ws simply pointing out that this type of thing will happen, good, bad, right, wrong, or indifferent, then you have 5 threads crying about it.

I don't read it as cast-halt-instant cast,

I read it as: in 11 when you cast a spell and wanted to interrupt it you had to run around waiting for it to stop casting or /rest to interrupt the cast, you wont need to do that in 14, you can interrupt it instantly by moving and start casting another spell after 0.3 seconds


of course, this will be really friggin annoying in dungeon crawling ...

Well unless it was lost in translation that's exactly how it reads. Cast is instantly halted, and the next cast is instant. What you say makes more sense, but I think it just needs some clarification.

It's ambiguous. I read "the new spell will be cast instantly", to mean a new spell can be cast as soon as the player's moment has stopped not that the next spell can be cast instantaneously, forgoing any casting time. The latter sounds like a broken game mechanic.

You know, I can't believe I didn't realize how good instant interruption would have been in FF11... Now it doesn't sound nearly as bad as I thought, if we can start casting again asap. Even when rest-cancelling in FF11 you had to wait like 2-3 seconds.

1. It didn't even have to be addressed. The dev team has made plenty of changes in the past with no explanation. Be glad they're taking the time.

2. The post is a long explanation, which means the reason fits into a grand design. It sounds like a simple answer won't suffice.

3. They're not taking enough heat for 1.20 being delayed? It's not like Yoshi-P is sitting on his hands right now. He's got a lot on his plate. I would much rather they concentrate on getting 1.20 out than explain an upcoming DoM battle change.

no i made point by point statements in the situations in just one single battle it would effect. as someone that has a r50 in a mage class i am sure you have completed it as that class. haven't you? if you have then point out which one, if any, of those points i am mistaken on.

4. His first language is Japanese, once he writes his explanation, the English, German and French language people need to re-write it to make sure the message is conveyed properly...
--example the quick explanation Rukkirii gave us on Yoshi's original response was quickly translated and therefore left some confusion. (I'm confused too...and not really sure if they mean you can semi-chainspell now by moving....that can't be what they intended/meant)

We can continue to debate what Yoshi P. meant and what the vision is, or we can wait until he has the time to get it out to us clearly (and he usually is a very clear person).

Lastly, this isn't changing when we get patch 1.20. It is changing in a booster patch (1.20a or 1.20b). So he DOES have plently of time to explain and we have plenty of time to absorb the new change/reasons behind it before it goes live.

Do not implement this until latency issues have been resolved first!

I believe the Devs don't want Mages to have the boring job of trying so hard to keep the tank alive. The GLA will have increased HP in comparison to MRD. The importance of Aegis Boon, Swift Aegis Boon trait, Rampart, Enhanced Rampart, etc for the GLA has gone up.

After patch, there should be less need to be so close according to... "[dev1206] Magic spells have been unified to strike either a single target or, in the case of AoE, a circular area. Attack range has also been increased, and area of effect broadened."

In general, SE, is changing the whole game style so that everybody can depend on a little bit from everybody, instead of the whole party failing completely because of one person (mage, tank).

The challenge with this change is that the design of the game is for parties and players to be constantly moving. Both DH and Ifrit demand this. This makes curing particularly challenging in that luck suddenly plays a much larger portion of success than skill.

In order for the change to be productive then the design of past and future content must coincide with the release of the alteration - something that may or may not be feasible.

I am not opposed to the idea - I am simply stating that the change must also reflect the environment in order to work. If that can be done then no problemo as I dislike the roaming nature of the gameplay and favored the stationary elements of XI.

I don't get it. His response to move canceling is client side issues about people dying before seeing themselves get hit by an attack?

But after I read the response, I was left with great confusion about the topic he addressed..maybe it's because the translation was hurried, but I got the feeling he was talking about something totally different which is not really related to the problem at hand..:(
