I believe there are two areas, the Golmorre Jungle and the unnamed forest in the foothills of Skatay mountain range.
I think they mentioned something about the possibility of Viera leaving the jungle if the "green word" deemed it necessary or something along that line. So that could be the case regarding these 'hares'.
Was there something in game that specifically mentioned hares leaving with imperial?
Yes, from one of the NPC in Prima Vista:
Company Tragedian: “You spoke with a Viera, you say? How exotic! I recall reading that following the Empire’s occupation of Dalmasca, several imperial army units were sent into the jungles to round up the hares and bring them to Rabanastre. As you might imagine, only a few of the soldiers returned… and the few Viera with them appeared to have followed on their own volition.”
Since the garleans brought them to Rabanastre, I suppose these were some of the Vieras that want to live in civilization, perhaps for varying reasons.
I wonder if the texts meant the term "hares" for males specifically, or was it just a simple derogatory term? If what the Company Tragedian read was of Garlean writing, I can definitely see the term being used for Viera in general. Either way this could still point the way towards either gender making the conscious decision to leave the wood considering how vague it is.
Do you have a screenshot of this text? The NPC says something different for me atm, so I'm guessing that it was at a previous point of the 24 man story.
(If this was discussed earlier in the thread I may have missed it sorry. I thought I read most of it, but then again there now like 300 pages to sort through.)
I'm not sure if he says it before or after Fran is on the ship as that would be extremely telling if it was a derogatory term or not - she would have heard him. I very much remember him saying this however; if I can I'll try and post a screen in a later date. Though I do believe it's in this thread perhaps part of the Viera lore dump you can read here; http://mirkemenagerie.tumblr.com/pos...7699/the-viera. This provides a lot of information on Viera right down to their population in FF14 Dalmasca - uses both 'Return to Ivalice' and the 'Eorzea Encylopedia II'.
Another quote I found interesting;
"Rabanastre became a key staging ground for imperial forces in the campaign, and from there the Empire advanced into Nagxia. Although the realm was divided amongst several clans that were unable to muster a united resistance, imperial forces were at a disadvantage, as the local resistance took advantage of the dense jungle climes to frustrate the invaders’ movements and stage ambushes. It took nearly three whole years for Garlemald to subjugate the whole of Nagxia, ultimately by relying upon small, highly trained mobile units scouring the jungles until the last belligerents were brought to heel, allowing the Empire in 1552 of the Sixth Astral Era to devote its attention wholly to the conquest of Yanxia and the Kingdom of Doma.”
'Highly trained small mobile units' sounds like Viera - especially if they're able to navigate the jungle climates and take out those who have the home turf with inferior numbers.
I mean, sure, but it also sounds like the navy seals lol. It's interesting if that hares going with the imperials thing is true though. Definitely sounds like the past though, and the wandering thaumaturge does mention how you don't see Viera in the city so it's strange.
It was in the past, aye, before Doma fell. I don't recall when Rabanastre was taken, so 30+ ago years? Giving it enough time for a Viera WoL to be born outside of the wood or to move to Eorzea. Wandering Dramaturge's lines seem to be different in regards to Japanese and English; been like that for a long time - his words could have a different meaning in the Japanese version.
Mmk so, the line about going to rabanastre and not seeing anyone in japanese is:
Watashi mo katsute rabanasuta e omomuita koto ga aru ga, dansei vu~iera no sugata o mitsukeru koto wa dekinakatta nē.
Which is interesting because it specifically says not seeing male Viera in Rabanastre. (dansei)
Good one to look at is the difference between Middyy's quotes; English Middy is a lot more ominous and at first, you couldn't tell if he was going to help or not. Japanese version he wasn't and it was clear he was there to help. Lyse in stormblood has her be more 'blonde syndrome' protag - and comes across as outright flirtatious to WoL in the Japanese versions. Xenos's famous comment after Shinryu is also different. Just points to look at since I don't know Japanese and I'm going off the reported comments from other users who are bilingual. But you can use these points as reference points if you go rewatch some cutscenes~
I'm sure someone here who is also bilingual can chip in on the differences, or those who have also seen the same comments/videos of the translation differences.
Interesting, is the dialogue pretty much exact throughout? o:
Oh you just meant in general the JP is different than localized lol I thought you meant someone pointed out specifically that lore was different. Honestly the kanji was way too crazy for me for the most part so I basically just google translated it all. For the mooost part it's the same concepts, matriarch society, exclusively women in the village and men are out on their own.
This bit in particular might be special:
Shūraku o deta dansei vu~iera wa mori ni gai o nasu mamono, aruiwa ningen o, tetteiteki ni haijo suru tame dake ni ikite iru to ieru.
The male Veira who left the village is a demon or a man who harms the forest.
It can be said that it is just alive to eliminate thoroughly.
Not sure how accurate google translate is there, sounds like leaving the forest is even more damning for males.
Edit: Yeah google sucks at translating, had someone else look at it - It is said that the male Vieras who leave the herd live only to absolutely destroy the monsters which harm the forest, or otherwise the humans who do the same.
Ooof, if that's true then yeah - explains why we won't see males outside of the forest just 'randomly' on their own accord unless they're told to go by a matriarch/the wood itself, green word shenanigans. Makes sense I suppose, they're the first line of defence and most of the time the last needed. And those small numbers means they have to go 'repopulate'. Life as bunboi is rough.
Edit - Ah, so they're just walking, talking, breeding terminators that go rambo on anyone who would hurt the wood. Yerrrp, guess that means whoever started that forest fire is on their 'hit list'.
That can be the backstory you choose for your character. Just remember that SE have never given our characters a backstory, since that's for us to decide.
Lol I mean, that sentence I don't think is in the English script for the dramaturge and it makes male Viera sound pretty BA. I still would prefer something lion looking but at least there's some coolness to them.
So ~9 days away what do we think the thread will be at by then? 313 pages? Also at 10 posts a page of course, not this master race 40 posts nonsense - I want those inflated numbers :).
Also get hype, or your anti-depressants just in case :D.
If there wasn't a daily post limit, I suspect it'd be a lot higher already.
I really really hope we're getting male Viera. Would absolutely love to have them.
8 more days...we can make it
How dare you to let this thread wander into page 2. :o
1 more week! Love or Pitchforks, YoshiP better prepare xd
Hopefully, Hrothgar is awesome enough to make up for the the absence of male Viera and personally I hope they have more of a Kimahri body type and not like that abomination I posted a few pages back.

From the leaks it sounds pretty likely we won't get 100% Ronso so it'd be nice if it's like the build and just less beast-y faces. I personally would rather have something less human looking but I'm also a fan of Ronso in general so I'm ready to be disappointed lol.

i also remembered Fire emblem awakening had rabbit people (they transformed into bigger monster rabbits but points still there)
Yarne here is a pretty good expectation of what male viera could be like
Well, if anyone wants the link of the page. (https://twitter.com/akaruichan87/sta...30533198807040) Funny how it mimics the player base tbh.
The Hrothgar better be cool is all I'm saying. :v Or at least not something that only the furries will like. It'd be so unfair for girls to get Viera and for guys to get some giant fur covered WoW race instead. Hopefully if they are based on lions, they'll go for a more regal and dignified appearance. I could get behind that.
