Yeah, personally I'd like their AF to look similar to this as well.

I personally will be rolling a Hrothgar, and have no interest in playing a Viera of either gender. That said, I do think male Viera (And female Hrothgar) should be made available for players who do want them. Perhaps in a later patch, maybe 5.1 or 5.2.
It's truly incredible that there's 2,856 posts on this.
Yet no blog post from Yoshi P is a bit concerning.
He said in an interview they're reviewing feedback. Other than that, I'm not sure what people hope to get from him after such a short time. And yes, it is a short amount of time. It's been, what, 2, 3 weeks? Keep in mind that during that time, other than reviewing feedback not necessarily in their native tongue and dealing with things lost in translation, the devs were also busy with:
1. Finishing male Hroth and female Viera as we know they barely managed in time for their reveal trailers, we don't know how complete the models are otherwise - we do know they won't have many head pieces at launch, which is another thing they might be working on.
2. Last minute tests and fixes and what not (if not outright development) for Shadowbringers
3. Hopefully server planning and maintenance to avoid Raubahn Ex 2 - Ala Mhigan Boogaloo.
4. Not unthinkable, having to deal with internal responses to the playerbase anger.
And then, the response that they should give, is not just whether or not we're getting the missing options. If not - they better give a better detailed explanation to why not. "We won't be able to support this moving forward" - but given the outcry they can't say this all wishy washy so long as there's a chance they're wrong about it. It takes time to calculate that.
And if there IS a chance they'll be able to add it, they still need to make those calculations, but they might also petition SE for backup. More money, money people, maybe outsource something, reach out to players who already made designs and see maybe to use their designs to save on their own... there's a billion and one things they can do but they all take time.
I'd personally hate a half hearted response just for the sake of a response, and it might actually be one of the worst things they could do in this current climate.
If he ever decides to avert his big mistake on gender locking this will be in the next expansion 6.0.
I hope he could do it earlier than that and introduce them in a 5.X patch instead.
It was a mistake and his old interviews proved that it wasn't for technical or development limitations but because of his own view on how things should look like.
He could skip the Hrothgar that nobody asked for and he could go for the male Viera instead. We already have cat people in game.
Male Viera never existed in any previous FF game and he was scared for XIV to be the first to do so.
This lack of inspiration and risk taking is what hold XIV back sometimes.
They rely far ttoo much on older FF games and they rarely do things on their own.
Male Viera ! Male Viera !

You all that share fan art are very talented.
Yes, a male AND female beast race, and still, not near as many ppl as those who wanted viera. SE did mess up this time, they should have just given a full race at 5.0, whichever be it (most likely viera, male and female, sicne there was a HUGE demand for that), and the other one at 6.0, but actual races, not the half baked unfinished product we currently have

Etroveria on Tumblr. This one in particular seems to be what ppl who want a slim male viera are askng for (just guessing)
First time ever logging on to the forums, but I needed to throw my support behind the call for male Viera and female Hrothgar. It's 2019, I can't believe that we're even having to request equal gender opportunities.
Pretty sure I have a heart.
In case that reference doesn't land; I'm one of the many who have wanted a playable bestial race for years... while also throwing shade at Viera at every opportunity I had. Being told a bestial race would be a waste of time and resources (also for years) made me salty (cynical? disdainful?) :I
One of the items of evidence that Square cites is an old poll where demi-beast race got top vote but used Viera as an example. I can't find any other official-ish poll, but maybe others can help.
I'm for both male viera and female hrothgar being implemented, and they for sure have the resources. It's not about resources, it's about priorities. The big worry is if Yoshi-P doesn't address it this week. His team made a major mistake in deciding not to implement both genders, and it remains to be seen if they have the wherewithal to reverse their own mistakes. Yoshi-P just got promoted in a big reorganization, it's prolly not a great time for him to go hat in hand to his superiors admitting he messed up and asking to change things. But that's what it will take.
I've seen somewhere in this thread commentary that we just pay Square rent and shouldn't expect Square to listen to us. No. That's a bad take for many reasons, but mostly because MMOs actively depend on customer responsiveness in order to survive and thrive.
Remember, the sooner Square commits to implementing the genders the better for them, because wearable bloat will continue to expand. So if we wait for 6.0 it's never going to happen, as their current excuse against it only becomes larger. They have to commit now and tell us they are making the change.
I agree with absolutely everything you said. I do expect yoshi p to fulfil his promise and finally after almost 1 month stop trying to ignore the genderlock backlash situation (since it's impossible to ignore it). My bet is that by the end of this week we will have an approximate date on when male viera and female hrotgar will be released
Genderlock was officially confirmed on the last FanFest which was late March. It hasn't been a month yet. Nor has he ignored it, he issued a statement saying they're looking into it. Regardless of how much any of us appreciate the silence since, those things do take time, and with more press releases coming up in May (PLL or something, no?) I doubt they'll say anything more for the time being, but that doesn't mean they're ignoring it.
They've already released a statement. There's no need to rush them. Ensuring that the expansion releases on time and in a smooth manner is far more important than repeating the statement that they are taking feedback into account. They've already said they're considering adding them. They even have a tentative look in mind.
I will say that they'll probably say something more before ShB's release, mind, even if it's just a general statement (could even be yes/no). To try and win back some of those lost pre-orders and squeeze some extra sub time.
Yep, there's suppose to be a Live Letter; I believe, a little past mid May to go over battle system changes and there's also a Media Tour that was slated for mid May if I'm remembering correctly. I think we'll hear something from the Media tour and if not then, then from the Live Letter. I doubt we'll hear anything regarding the matter before then, though it's not impossible.
They certainly aren't going to make the statement "We will add the additional genders" anytime soon other than we're considering it. At best they'll save the announcement if they do decide to make them for one of the Fanfests for 6.0. I see little to be gained by them to committing officially now and reducing any surprise and hype for their 6.0 expansion. New genders would be a major selling point for any new xpac.
If there is a live letter in may, they have to address the subject there for sure. Also, they could just say yes and they would win a lot of lost pre orders back
Lol I love how you assume they are coming in 6.0,but SE could literally put them tomorrow and no one would ever have known they were ready. You don't know when they are going to put them, and stating the other genders are coming will come will get them a lot of hype for this expansion
They aren't going to win any preorders back for something that won't be coming until 6.0. Seriously they if anything will say we are considering it. I doubt they'll commit to anything more than that. You really need to step back and get away from your 5.0 want for these because it's not happening ANY TIME SOON.
And I'm not assuming they are coming. Frankly I'm more of the opinion they won't be making them.
They'll win mine back, and given many cancelled their preorders on principle over the genderlocks, it might sway back some of those, too. Most people here don't want it RIGHT NOW OH GOSH WHERE IS IT but we do want confirmation it's coming.
Can't say I won't let my sub drop in between patches but right now the plan is to just let my sub run out somewhere early June. And i already know of several people who said that if I'm quitting they're coming with. So you know.
Its so obvious you don't know anything about how to run a company. If they actually have people leaving because of things they announced, then it is failed content. An announcement is meant to get ppl hyped, not to divide the playerbase and get a lot of ppl mad. Also, this is starting to appear like our warlords of draenor (time travel, huge controversy, lots of people mad etc), and they will make a LOT of money by simply saying: they will be coming in x time or later, look forward to it
LoL ok... if you say so.
What is obvious is your lack of willingness to listen to reason and what others have to say if it doesn't fit into your little bubble of what you want to believe. Sorry but we just have to wait and see but I would suggest you don't hold your breath for an official announcement committing to the missing genders anytime soon. I could be wrong but I doubt it. You're entitled to your opinion so lets just agree to disagree. Time will show us who is better seated in reality and maybe soon, hard to say.
