I've got to ask. How do people generally feel about Arm of the Destroyer? My only experience with it was in Beta (don't currently own the game) where I found little to no use for it.
Has anyone managed to bring out some of its potential yet?

It's an AoE ability. If you are hitting 4 or more targets you are doing more effective DPS than most of your other oppo form skills. The silence might be useful as well for mobs that are affected by it but as a on-demand interrupt it's useless considering its on the GCD and requires you to be oppo form.
It's also handy for tagging mobs in fates since you don't need to target a mob, just spam this as they are spawning in.
Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but to me it seems Dragoons do significantly more DPS than Monks. Monks attack 15% faster sure, but from videos I see, Dragoons are doing well over 15% more damage per hit. Dragoon auto attacks seem to be in the 130-150 range while Monks seem to be in the 100ish range. Dragoons have much higher potency on their abilities and the DoTs are similar in overall potency, so I just don't see it. Dragoon off-GCD abilities seem to have much higher potency as well.
Can someone please point out what I might be missing?
Right, but Dragoons get a damage buff and debuff as well, so a Monk really only get a constant +26% more than Dragoons, which is still significant, but from what I've seen, not enough to overcome the low potency of Monk weapons. I could be wrong though, I might be underestimating the 15% attack speed. Monks are undeniably the best for Limit Breaks though due to damage buff stacking unless Final Heaven does less base damage than Omnislash.
yeah you underrestimate the speed i have a attack speed of 2,09 at my skills and i got not even attack speed gear my crits are 200(every hit of this is a crit after i use my full combo one time) on my normal spell (130potency) + 70(110 crit) auto attack // 220 true strike(150 potancy) 70(110 crit) auto attack// 280 snap punch (180 potency) + 70(110 auto attack) yep with every skill comes an auto attack and after the forth it cames between the skills because my auto attack ist faster too there is demolich and hand of death i dont know but i think they tick every 2 secs with 50 together so to my auto attack of 70-110 comes 50 dot dmg im lvl 42 with crap gear ^^ dragoons on my lvl crit for 300+- with the 3rd combo skill but they are much slower , somethimes i crit with 5 to 8 skills and autohits in a row but that isn`t good for me because i get aggro :P
Actually DRG is less DPS then Monk but quite a margin. Dragoon offers burst damage. he doesn't need to build momentum, but when monk pulls momentum no one can reach his single target dps.
Tha0'ts what you get for playing easy mode.
PS. At 50 Monk GCD is less then 1 second <:D
Can we like...not insult other classes on these forums, please? I'd prefer to keep the discussions civil and on topic. Different classes appeal to different people, nothing "easy mode" about that :)
Hi everyone, i've read like what, 15pages of this topic and it has been a great help, thank you all.
I've still got one question. I figured that we have to get that hitcap and all, but how?
I mean, do we have to use attributes points anywhere else than in Strength?
I could sum up my question : which stat do we have to get ? Strength for sure, and?
I was in the same boat as well, had a 41 Dragoon then switched to my Monk which worked out great since I all already had all the great Dragoon abilities. Dragoon don't have a lot of abilities off GCD just their jumps and their stun for damage. Only 2 jumps actually do good dmg while the others are use at the right time kind of thing. The Dragoon has buffs off GCD but every class does. The good thing about the Monk is they have the lowest GCD once you get a full stack of Greased Lightning which is amazing. I decided on the Monk because you get more options than the Dragoon.
Until you get to the Binding Coil of Bahamut, you're at the hitcap. You have 100% accuracy on equal-level and below enemies.
Also, for other people, the Physical Damage on the weapon is the same between Monks and Dragoons assuming the same gear level. This number is the primary boost to your overall Potency, and all weapons deal 100 Potency worth of damage every 3 seconds. Essentially, autoattack is a 100 potency DoT. Sometimes this means doing <100 potency worth of damage in under 3 seconds, others it means doing >100 potency worth of damage but with a delay over 3 seconds.
Essentially, with the same weapon grade, strength, determination, and buffs/debuffs a 150 Potency attack from a Monk will do the exact same damage as a 150 Potency attack from a Dragoon.
Hey bros, i'm doing the Relic Reborn quest and i have to use the Savage Aim III in the Wildling's Cesti... i know i can buy the materia on the market but where can i get the weapon?
I'm confused, I got to level 34 and I assumed my Fists of wind skill would lower my GCD as well as increase my movement speed, I move faster but my GCD is still the same. It also says that it would drain my mana but it does not do that either, Can anyone shed some light as to why this is?
You have to craft it, to get the bloody cesti regent you can run Wanderers palace and get it from random coffer (its very common!), other than this you need darksteel nugget, and some crystals, and a high level crafter with enough control, good luck! (Its crafted only, dont even try looking for places it can drop, also don't buy it ! Its very easy to make ! Just need to find a crafter!)

So, I had a few ideas about the monk class, curious everyones thoughts. In other games I've played, if you have a stackable buff IE greased lightening every time there is a new stack the timer starts over. However, in other games if the timer reached 0 it would only lose a stack, timer goes down again another stack. I've also seen in games if the timer goes down you lose a stack and have half the timer lose another stack, half of that timer another. I am curious what everyone thinks? I have no trouble maintaining full GL in my normal rotation, but ya get a bad tank, a conj who likes to use that knock back move, or just a fight with bad mechanics for a monk and it kills our GL. I am sure this is easier to maintain once we get Perfect balance, but still we have to maintain positioning and a strict rotation of stances while keeping temp buffs up, and sprinkling in dots here and there, all doable and fun, but maybe just a little more slack with timers would be nice.

Just got fists of wind. I dont think im moving to much faster - am I missing the point? also tool tips on the buffs for all the fists say they convert our damage but the skills themself dont say that. any clarification?
Fists of Wind is really subpar, imo it should increase your attack speed, or better yet they should all do what the old 1.0 tool tips say they do instead of being the junk they are now
Fist of Wind is marginally useful in areas where you can't use a mount, otherwise I just default to Earth or Fire as the situation calls for it.
No it's not, considering the dodge mechanics of dungeon bosses FoW is like default with fist of fire. Quan, cutters, etc...wow... without FoW you're screwed.
And just chasing...is a really really really annoying thing for mnks. The interrupts of a running enemies is really really annoying. Without FoW, your run speed will never catch up to an enemy until it stops, all you'll do is your animation and get it clipped as it moves out of range. With FoW, you are so fast you can actually perform flank running attacks on a chasing enemy!
They all have their uses...mostly Earth is the most crappy after you get fire. Because at that point, wind is for chasing, and fire is for damage, In a fight you don't have TP for earth to defend, so you might as well take it, and let the healer heal you.
Earth can be a god send when a pull goes wrong or the tank drops. Pop earth stance, then fleet foot and blood bath. Then if the mob is still up, pop keen flurry and second wind. Then with mantra you become even more tanky it's ridiculous. I tanked Isgebind with a white mage and myself just fine cycling between those + mantra until I got hit by a dumb aoe I could have dodged almost pulled off a win in a should be wipe situation.
"edited for typos >.<"
I know that ppl already said this but i'm still not sure about using Fracture in my rotation.
I'm already using Touch of Death and Demolish, is worth to put a 3° dot?
you could if you can sustain the tp of all 3 stances, which you sometimes can, but usually you can't. Considering 10% is nothing because most of the damage on that level is burst damage, not sustain damage. They will get healed up before the next wave.
If there was a fight where you were getting sustain damage, yea earth is preferred.
Considering half the job of a mnk is chasing... or nearly all of it..Wind is on a lot. You really need to be bouncing between adds/boss/ dodging.
Doubly worse because you need flank flank and more flank...and you really need speed on a moving target to get that.
otherwise, get a drg, who can throw, jump, and damage automatically.
For Monk Darklight accessories, which would be better: Striking or Maiming?
I would assume striking is the better of the two since it shares the same name as the monk specific DL armor, but I've also heard that skill speed is pretty important for monks. Which do you guys recommend?
I think this is something that you monks might want to watch and listen too because it pertains very heavily on DoTs that most of you use.

Anyone that have Ifrit's Claw can tell me in how many attempts u got it? For real, i already did Ifrit 17 times and didn't even saw the Fist weapon drop, it's just some really bad luck?
New to DPS'n in mmo's so MNK looks intriguing so I'm giving it a shot. Just a quick question, once I start getting closer to lvl50, should I look for gear that gives skill speed, and or crit rate? I figured with the buff from GL, it would help. Any help, would be appreciated. :-)
Mnk is one of the few(only) class that hit the animation wall so skill-speed gears isn't as great as it should be. Crit and determination is better, but skill speed does have its uses.
There isn't really that much room to cherry pick stats so not the biggest deal in the world.
10 attempts in and haven't seen it yet. I have however seen the scholar book no less than 3 times. This pretty much summons up my experience with pug/monk/dow gear from dungeons in general as I have leveled up as well. I'm sure other people have been super lucky, I however am not one of them.
Went to Garuda with lvl 46 White Weapon, got drop on 2nd run (farming group).
