i already agree it needs more reason to actually play the job. I am only usually entertained on blue mage these days when me and a friend or 2 go through some content to hunt some missing spell without a carry. Unfortunately, as you say, its pretty ineffecient to do it that way.

As I said I was unsure if the balance was the primary reason or identity, I have heard both reasons as to why the class is limited. I have also said I do not agree with their reasoning and I have said it is 1000% possible to make a version of BLU everyone would be happy with and if you feel SE will be able to do such a job that would make both sides happy fantastic. I personally cannot get behind a full rework because I simply lack faith in the combat teams ability to do any rework that will not gut the aspects that I personally enjoy. In the end though it is not my choice and it is up to SE and I will simply roll with the punches with whatever path they choose. You are right it would make sense for SE to make changes to the game based off the feedback of the players that are playing said content but let us be real SE has an odd track record. Personally I would not have released BLU in the current state that it is in, I also would have put in the work to make BLU one of the first possible multi role jobs in the game. Yoshi-P clearly has a version of BLU that it cannot be balanced properly while keeping while keeping true to his view on the class identity of BLU. So that is why I simply do not think SE is willing to make a version of BLU that will make everyone happy since if they wanted to they could have done so since I do not think anyone thinks it is impossible to do so.

In the end some of you may have faith in SE to go back and make changes to BLU to make it into something everyone will be able to enjoy, but for me that is confusing since if that was really in the cards why not just do it from the start. Might not be fair of me to see it as an only two options but from other aspects SE to me has proven they are not really all that great at providing options and it does seem like it is a one or another approach. Since if I am not mistake didn't yoshi-p say something along the lines that unless they did something drastic jobs like BLU would properly never be added to the game? Clearly shows they have a ridged view.

Please do not misunderstand me, I truly wish BLU could be used in all forms of content while also leaving open the possibly to customize the play style with certain abilities even if it is just pseudo alterations at this point. My vision for BLU was to be one of the first multi role jobs. As said limited jobs have the potential to offer wildly unique experiences, sure BLU first foray is a rather sparse experience, and can most definitely use more means to establish long term engagement. It is far from perfect but personally I see the concept has potential and while I would rather see both blended together, I just do not see that happening with how ridged SE has shown to be. So if I had to pick between the two I have to pick expand and flesh out the limited job concept.

Awha, I just want to thank you for taking the time to write that out and convey your feelings behind the stance you've taken. While my feelings differ, as you've mentioned, being able to properly convey the thought process behind these feelings from everyone regardless of opinion is an extremely important step in taking some community action to get somewhere better with all this. I will be the first to say I get quite incensed and irritated at those who drop in, attempt to shut everything down they possibly can and jet, leaving nothing constructive in the process for those who do have some investment in this thing we call a Blue Mage.

Yeah I didn't want to conflate both of your arguments, I apologise about that if it came across that way.

However, in the end in regards to what's being agreed on here, is that it ultimately comes down to SE not being 100% honest with us. And what we can take away is essentially that it comes back down to their statements being nothing more than damage control. Because they wouldn't use that kind of language if they wanted to honestly give us said information. This only serves to show us how they knew that this had the potential to bite them in the back, and it ultimately did. In regards to the rigidity, it's one they created but it's also the one they can modify. BLU does not suffer from such huge issues, that IF SE wanted to fix it, they would not have the capability to make it fit. I would expect Yoshida to have gathered enough feedback to realise that people who really wanted BLU to open up, are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to make the job work like the others, and that there is no need to eliminate the "limited jobs" since now they're already in the game.
So they don't have to backpedal that hard and make a scene.

End game, you're describing endgame, which BLU needs to be part of.

Also the only "Broken" thing you've come up with is using a literal exploit to self destruct for a DPS gain and kill trash slightly better than other classes. Until it can actually do something broken or worth being a limited job, I'm just going to assume you vastly misunderstand how combat works in this game leading you to misguidedly think things are broken when they are not.

Indeed. As I already posted earlier, I also wanted to thank ALL those who stuck around, no matter their opinion. Discussion is at the heart of finding solutions and understanding, and I want to apologise for my tone if it were a problem to those interested. It just so happens that BLU is a job that I really love and this entire ordeal is just... weird.
I just wish SE were just as capable to maintain a similar confrontation, even for other issues, but alas, they're a business. Blizzard does it, ANET does it too, and all the rest who follow suite.

its not perfect but i love the new style of content and new way to enjoy a class. blu feels so immersive compared to the other jobs. The game needs to stop being "end game raids " they will evolve blu and cant wait to see what they do with it

Also I'm not denying that BLU has an endgame, its just a particularly aweful one, so it would be better being in the regular endgame, which is what physic was describing in their post, as "more places to use blue mages" and "and some form of longer term content where you can go have fun using blue mage and gain some sort of benefit."

Except it doesn't, even crafters have an actual feasible end game. Blue mage is simply "Get all spells, Get to 50, Finish carnival" there's no actual work towards improving your BLU like there is through improving gear or rotations with other jobs.

I think we all wanted BLU as an actual job that could hold its own with other current jobs. I'm not really into the way it was implemented and while some may like it, I'm not really for BLU in its current iteration. Was a major let down to me.

Talking about end game.

Crafters also indirectly contribute to regular end-game, through food, potions and gear.

If BLU could bottle up learned skills or something for use by other jobs that would at least be something useful. Even with a stupid long cooldown, being able to bust out a bad breath at an opportune moment on a new fight could be handy.

Just treat it as a mini game I guess?

That has always been a major part of blue magic. If collecting spells doesn't appeal to you, you would never have any interest in a real blue mage.

I wasn't speaking negatively of it, rather I tend to see the lighter side of things. I have a blue mage, but I'm limited in what I can do in game due to lack of a regular group to play with, so I'm sure there are a lot of things I'm also missing out on including how and where to find the spells.

sorry, there are a lot of people who want to take away that aspect and give it only a predefined set of skills. They could give a little more information in game to help people find at least certain spells but that has also always been part of Blue Magic. They know that somebody will always figure it out and post it online.

Finding blue spells has always been side content, relative to the rest of the game. Your "normal" jobs are less than what blue mage is. Limited means primarily that it can't do random groups. The level cap should eventually be gone. If they want to give Blue a specific set for random groups, fine, but it should still require finding the spells, it should include all three roles(even if you have to choose it before queueing), and the freeform mode should still be available.

One thing that makes no sense is that you can't do squadron missions.

Blue Mage spell collecting isn't side content when it is needed for the job to be more effective, side content is something optional and it is not needed. Blue Mage spells are needed since it make what blue mage is. Collecting spells isn't a side content but its more of a fun way to explore and collect spells needed for your own Blue mage. Except for duties, and I rather much queue with randos than use PF where there is no one on PF doing the primals or raids.

I'll always be of the opinion "most" (not all) of the spells should have been the BLU equivalent of glamour. (EX fights would have been a different system, due to how the game works)

If they did some revamping to BLU. I don't see why they it can be both a max and limited Job. Aetherial Mimicry could actually just allow BLU to change their role, verses it just being a trait. enhance the spells related to the role you mimic, while locking off the spells of the other for their intended role. The BLU job could have great potential of being a job that can flex between the three roles, depending on party needs and the content you're cuing for.

Just got it last night, and man that ability is really cool. I like that theyre edging BLU into a sort of fill in. I say give it more time, but keep requesting it getting the limited status removed. The class quests sort of make you go out and get the skills, at least the whole 50-60 class quests tell you to go get this skill or that.

In honesty I agree with removing Limited Jobs however I feel that Blue Mage right now could be a bit more refined and improved to have its own job gauge that way we will have another fully fleshed out job added to the game. I hope this LL talks more about Blue Mage, since this LL is all about patch 5.4 and not 5.35.

The issue is that even at its own "Limited Job" scope, BLU gameplay is (ironically?) too limited. There are a ton of things that could open up for them like Deep Dungeons, Eureka, or even a more streamlined duty finder targeted just for Blue Mages. That you are correct, it is a short term business practice. A company would rely on hype just to make something good, which is also why sometimes bad publicity is good publicity and that is a business strategy used by some business. Blue Mage should be allowed into a lot of content at the start, but again they're better off as a normal job if we're planning on opening up to them. As Deep Dungeon has it own ranking system, meaning if a Blue Mage were to participate they can dominate the rankings. Though any class can solo (Though RDM easily).

And then I became more salty because no, haha, most spells are worse than glamour lol. No reason you'd replace your 220 potency with your 120 potency, your better buff with your worse buff, your best status effects over the ones that are 'whatever', even some of the more interesting spells have a clear replacement / better variant. Etc Etc.

It wouldn't be blue apparently if SE didn't give you a lot of bad skills, many pointless to bad choices (did you want 120 in red or in purple?), and clear linear progression / replacement spells, with some of the most simplistic gameplay built around a system that makes poor use of such a concept*, until at least you commit to party exclusive content for a job designed for solo content, by a job made limited because they didn't want to force players to have certain spells put into strict role situations forced to have specific spells to be of particular value to the team . . .. Just. . . wot? Maybe Blue Mage suffered from too many cooks in the kitchen, maybe not enough resources, maybe it was one person's pet project while they were putting in 20 hours a day and that we even got this was amazing, I'm not sure but it just looks gangly and not in the cool way, more in the incomplete, indecisive, and disjointed way.

*I assume the point on most simplistic gameplay built around a system comment might not be clear to some so to expand that a little- it is to say as you get your skills as blue mage most of your skills are useless and or near 'glamour' of each other, which means you will be casting your one best spell on repeat for a long while, then you will slowly get parties to get the spells that actually make your job vaguely interesting (funny thing to say about a job 'designed for solo play', requires PF-exclusive content in order to become half interesting), much of this time as you collect spells you will still have a partial kit so you will still be repeating your best skill over and over and over, many moments you'll be half hobbled together and less mechanically interesting than equal level jobs (and this will always be true if you don't use party content, open world exclusive skill kit blue mage past like level 30-50 pales in comparison to an equally leveled normal jobs in terms of mechanical depth), finally you'll get to a point where you have the majority of your main kit or all of it and you'll have pretty much a kit that normal jobs use (with obviously some more broken concepts), most of your experience so far has been with a zombie of a job, maybe worse a skeleton of a job-- finally now you get to get to spam some old dungeons because of moogle tomestones or to get the Morbolo mount and that's that, due to restrictions the job isn't even as good as your current jobs at soloing stuff (your level 80 will do old content better than your blue mage, and if your level 80 could do old content synced with their full kit of spells then you might find situations where your normal job is better than a blue mage anyways).

Spent most of your time a broken disheveled mess to finally get to use it for moogle tome stones, and I suppose a faster carnival experience so long as the restrictions to the event don't kill the spells you got (as some of the carnivals are going to). All of what I'm trying to say is the majority of blue mage is going to be an incomplete experience and the life span once you reach "not a mess" is very narrow if not complete and for many going to be very much a timed life, and not like cause you're always searching for perfection- I mean it's literally going to be an incomplete mess for much of it's life span as the experience and especially if you don't get around to doing PF-exclusive content. The way blue mage progresses due to it's design, I feel, was a very unfortunate to poor choice and even if they keep this idea that BLU is for PF (best and most popular use of blue is because of it's synced feature, so moogle stones and FATE event spam) they should still seriously look at rebuilding the experience as the job grows. On top of the fact that they've now rested the growth of your job on the whims of your schedule and server, if you don't play blue during the hot part of the patch you'll be stuck holding your schedule around PF just so you can make your job not feel like a zombie so then you can use it for a narrow set of tasks.

I definitely feel the concept of giving blue mage very powerful spells and a bigger spell book could be a lot of fun while hopefully also making blue mage a full job (so both limited and normal, an advanced job - that could have been epic), but even just evaluating the limited side as it is, not that I'm loathe to the idea of limited in a general way, I feel compelled to say as the job currently stands that "BLU limited just wasn't that good". There are a few of us, not just myself, that don't hate the general concept of limited content but I certainly don't want to see anymore limited content if SE feels blue mage was a good representation of what the system could do (which isn't to say the whole game is designed for one person to enjoy, but for what I felt for what happened to blue mage I would pity others if they had to go through that too, and I fear they'll take other cool ideas and put them into a similarly designed / lens style of limited content as a way to be like "too hard we can't get it to work" trap rather than hard, perhaps very difficult work, of figuring it out for a way that doesn't make it hobbled and stuck in the gangly confused corner that is limited concept currently corner). On the limited side I had imagined if they went wild and made blue mage spells interwork more like Diablo 3 with legendary affixes and abilities, that it could be loads of fun finding combos even if it was limited (before blue was out I thought they were making a solo god job, which is why sometimes I call it god blue), because you'd get so many ways to play and the power granted would allow you to do things that your normal jobs couldn't even at level 80, here then you'd constantly be thinking of new combinations and exciting new spells to work into your kit (like how it works vaguely in Diablo 3, also like how you'll get power combos that do indeed give you a bit of a god power high)- currently the only real grace of blue is syncing back to old content 'yay' for blue, if you gave that to other jobs blue would look far more uglier (of course the novelty of casting a monster spell is there, but that's limited (lol), and the rest of the mechanical value is stuck behind PF even if it's somehow supposed to be designed for solo play).

All that said is also why I think they could have had far far better mileage out of the idea of a PF limited job with some solo potential, what Blue really is, blue is either a not so great designed solo job with a lot of exceptionally important PF-exclusive content (in order to be half interesting) or is actually primarily PF with some extra solo importance on the side (basically what our normal jobs are if you take away DF and current content lol), would be making a magitek pilot / gears operator limited job. Here in you'd have a lot of opportunity to spin the economy constantly, evolve a new combat system that doesn't strictly relate to the trinity, add a very smooth progression system that could take advantage of some in game mechanics such that it curves as the new becomes old, even with a similar concept of getting gear across the world a bit like you might think of Gummi Ship progression in KH(s) - while also not taking away any one's nostalgic desires and making a lot of sense to be limited (like the recent G Warrior content could have been a wonderful limited system).

With all the blue necro threads recently I'm almost charged enough to finish my blue thread lol, just kind of sitting in a few pieces in drafts XD . . Just lying there since I felt did we really need another salty blue thread- but like... if it's going to be all blue because of our resident necromancer(s) then.. lol eh.. :p, and especially since mine would be like a cry for a redesign attempt with much personal bias (hopes / dreams / opinions mixed with only some facts - so basically some real pipe dreams lol), with an attack of the titan wall of text (and a few pictures!).. so like for 4 people to read, 2 to finish, 1 to like, and the other to post some meme photo.

I'm not up to speed on the current conversation, and I haven't ready any posts in this thread, I just agree with the title and thought I'd bolster this opinion to hopefully make this change in the game.

Not if they make a separate ranking board for Blue Mages. For example, they can make it a solo only experience and there you'll have the challenge. I suppose they would have an easier time soloing than any other job, but still harder than the average group run, I suppose.

'Making a separate version for everything will solve all our problems with Limited Jobs.' No, it doesn't if anything it'll make this more complicated. I mean for a ranking board? It can work since we have ranking boards with specific categories but I doubt that can be applied to just about anything. I mean it would more time efficient to just implement it all into one system rather than 2 separate systems.

It would, but Blue Mage is already a separate system in itself, so in the end I don't see it making more complicated than it already is... And isn't like new players are starting with Blue Mage right off the bat.

It would be complicated when we have to add in more different roulette, that does different things with only specific requirement and really we already have enough roulette to deal with. Adding another one wouldn't do it any favors not just that it contradicts with the Limited Job system where it cannot participate in roulette. So it is better off as a Normal Job, plus it'll be an easier time learning spells because who would use a roulette meant for Limited Job especially for Blue Mage, where most of your spells are form specific trials, dungeons and raids. You're better off selecting a specific dungeon for that spell and because the content is limited the rewards you get are lackluster. Hence why it should become a normal job.

If we were to assume we remove the 'Clear Main Story Ultima Weapon' objective then yes, however they still have to pick out the initial ARR classes and not just that but they have to get up to Level 15 to access Limsa Lominsa. Even if your starting city is Limsa Lominsa, you still need to be able to get to the quest marker near Moraby Drydocks and people will be at level 10 with their initial class (If people feel ballsy enough then At best level 5, if they can avoid the enemies). If we're going by normal leveling standards as well which is no exp gain boost (Which is what limited Job provides), that would be more beneficial as it provides more chances for players to figure where to get each skill as soon as possible while leveling before continuing the Main Story Quest line.

my gripe with current situation where blue mage is a limited job is that (i feel like) they're basically eating up budget allocations by making separate content everytime. had they make it normal job they only need to do some big updates once every expansion. Granted the system of blue mage itself is unique and you need to gather monster skills but nothing you can't tweak to accomodate it being a normal job. that way everyone is happy.

I feel that they can make Blue a regular job, while making is so that we can still "gather skills" via job quest, and scale it in the way like how RDM uses both white and black magic.

I saw in another thread that by making BLU a limited job, there will be other limited job, which is a good point, with how much resources they put into BLU, they should just make it into a normal job instead.

While balancing a job might be hard, i think allocating the current resources from making all the BLU contents to balancing the job as a normal job is feasible.

i think even with collecting skills in open area (since i think that's the appeal of bluemage itself) they can definitely tune it so it can be used as normal job. the way they set certain skills to have shared cooldowns can be spread to more skills and make it more balanced BLU. or let's say they have a set of GCD skills, and they have x numbers of OGCD slot that can be customized to pick your own monster skills of choice. there's a lot of way i think BLU can be made a normal job which is less hassle than it currently is.

for the skill learning part i think they can just make it tied to the Job Quests like the other jobs, they can make a story where we have to learn a skills by killing a mob in the job quest, not only it lessen the time sink you have to commit to learning new skills, it simplify the whole thing, it might be not ideal for the current BLU fans, but it's a doable idea.

i guess that works too, just make it longer or something so that we can learn 3-4 skills in one go, then we can just slot the one we needs. maybe make a different effect like dots like garuda/gap closer like jkick for 1 slot, and we can only pick 1. slot unlocked every 5 level/ every time we do job quests. so much idea.
