I dont by from steam if direct is an option or crazy sale.
After deleting my post twice accidentally I'm signing this. I've been playing for a long time and this change is big enough to make me consider abandoning this account and starting fresh free of steam.
Consider this a signature.
Signed by me.
I will state again I would be happy to buy the whole game again on Windows if it was possible. I would just like to see the two licenses separated.
I sign this.
I've never personally had any problems using the game from my steam library, but I've had multiple friends tell me that running the game from steam causes their game to crash. I fear that they're going to be stuck playing an unstable game(which is obviously not fun) and/or quit since there's currently no way to separate their characters from steam.

Due to financial and other kind of issues, I'm kinda forced to purchase the Steam version in order to play this game currently.
While I do not encounter any major issue with the Steam client at the moment, any future/potential problems such as the ESO outage worries me.
I hope the FFXIV team reconsider implementing this as many users affected by this been voicing concerns on potential social as well as technical impacts.
Some of us that have purchased the Steam version are even willing to buy another license for the Window version(including me), even other MMOs allow this, so I don't see why this is not an option yet.
So an update on my question to support on how this change will comply with the UK's Consumer Rights Act 2015 gave me just a standard reply that nothing is finalised and to keep checking for updates. You would think they would at least put a note on a legal question that they follow all applicable laws.
Signed because I'm one of those people who been having issues with FFXIV Steam version. FFXIV steam version gave me terrible FPS compare to the SE Client but idc about this as long as it's still playable. What really concerned me right now is that I can't go to Mor Dhona at all without crashing. Other maps worked fine for me except Mor Dhona. If they really going to implement this, welp I guess Mor Dhona will be a restricted area for me lol. So please, if SE really going to make this happen, fix the memory leak in Mor Dhona. Idk what's wrong with that map. When I was leveling for the first time I got stuck in Mor Dhona for 2-3 days. After hardcore googling (xd) I found somewhere in forum a person suggested to download the normal client. So I did and finally I can load Mor Dhona without crashing until now.
My friend and I did few tests running the steam version of FFXIV today. This is what I found :
So apparently, you can run the steam version of FFXIV without the steam client or should I say..Without launching steam, I went to Steamlibrary>steamapps>common>FINAL FANTASY XIV Online>boot>ffxivboot.exe.
-The steam version of FFXIV allowed me to run the game without the Steam Launcher.
- I tried to teleport to Mordhona.
- Crashed.
So what I'm saying is... ITS NOT THE STEAM LAUNCHER THAT CAUSED THE GAME TO PERFORM AWFULLY. Its the steam version of FFXIV itself (FFXIV Steam Client). So yeah. Idk if its related to steam or not or like if Steam has powers to change how the FXXIV steam client is running but SE needs to figure this out :/ I get like -15-20 less fps running the steam version of FFXIV in general and cant load Mor Dhona at all.
signed in a heartbeat.
Quoting the numerous issues that ESO has had in the past 'til this day is enough for me. Even if they happen to give us subscription time for down Steam authentication servers what of the lost time of not being able to play with friends? And even then what if we have another outage so long that houses are demolished and land lost? Will I get that back somehow?
Same, that sounds more like a support thread issue than steam, since if you're not using the steam launcher, you're just connecting directly. Post in the support thread and put your specs / pc diag in for people to see what's going on. 3rd party apps/mods etc.
Ignore it lol, they're not reading the thread anyways, and that's a throwaway account given 1st post, they're not willing to post from their main, which says enough.
And your point being... Given how the authentication works with ESO and how things regularly go down, why wouldn't people want a way to escape? Notice how many of us are even willing to REBUY THE GAME AND EXPANSIONS, but we can't without losing our current characters. Tell us again how that's our fault. Yeah, we can accept buying from Steam was a mistake, but how is it our fault that SE refuse to let us put this right without starting with an entire new account (thus losing all our character progress, pre-order bonuses, event items like Yo-Kai that we absolutely cannot get back, etc). All we're asking for is a way to access the game without having to start over. Even if that means rebuying the game and giving SE more money.
It was postponed till April or later due to a bug that was discovered. Yall can calm down for the time being now.
I would argue with a postponing we should still keep the issue present in hopes before the implementation they can explain a little more in detail to hopefully quell the fears of it needing to be connected to Steam authentication the whole time like ESO did. I also hope it would give them time to seriously think about separating the Windows and Steam versions like ESO did for players who no longer want to be trapped by the steam version after said changes.
Consider me signed. I have the option of playing this on PS4 if things go south, but my spouse and best friend do not. Neither should we and he have to buy a PS4 or another copy off of the SE Store in order to play, which they couldn't even do on their accounts and characters which they already put so much time into, if they both bought PC version.
Postponement is good, but it is not a long term solution if what happened with ESO is any indication of what is to come.
At the very least, if we can add mac and ps4 to the account, then let us include the non steam version to our accounts too SE. At the very, very least.
This thread definitely needs to stay on page 1!
This issue is too important to risk being overlooked and go down
Signed.
S-E, if you read this post, I’d gladly (and I think most players with this issue agree) pay for the Windows version + expacs and even some form of account transfer fee if absolutely needed. So please allow us to buy both stream and the win version.
Signed.
I went through this with ESO. This is a disaster waiting to happen.
Signed.
I'm sick of a lot of things with Valve right now and have been distancing myself from them, and this is just another reason.
I shouldn't need to deal with Steam auth servers just because I want to play a game that has very little to do with their company. Any trouble the Steam auth servers have will impact my ability to play the game, as well.
I will even happily rebuy ARR and all expansions if it means I can get my character off a Steam account. Even just registering a non-Steam version (like we can currently register a PS4 game). I shouldn't be punished for a decision made years ago (when the game was gifted to me) that a new player wouldn't even consider looking into.
Where was information about the delay till April i say someone talk about get posted?
I see square conveniently removed the post from the lodestone rather then leaving the more advanced warning,
Can't hurt those SB2 pre orders :p .....
+1
I wish we could simply add a normal Windows key to solve this. :D
The post is still there. SE only updated the original post two days ago instead of creating a new post.

*Update Mar. 13, 2019 11:05 p.m. (PDT):
Due to a confirmed bug, implementation that was tentatively scheduled for late March will now be delayed until April or after. We will let you know as soon as a date is confirmed.
my apologies and thanks.
I just checked the website and saw it, Just seemed important enough to stay on the launcher (been pushed off which is why i missed it)
agreed,
I'm currently submitting a ticket but i'm expecting a canned response sadly.
I already got a canned response earlier this week and compared it with others who did and we all got the same thing. Essentially, they said they cannot do anything as there is no service available allowing us to convert keys or buy non-Steam keys and apply them to our accounts which is currently true, however, they could change this if they wanted. Then they said they forwarded my concerns to the appropriate department. Hopefully, that isn't code for launching my concerns into a black hole never to be heard from again. But realistically it probably is... lol...
I think the best thing we can do right now is just remain vocal and not let this get forgotten and buried.
Yeah I dont think many in the playerbase even know of this issue,
is it against tos to post lodestone links into area chat? :D say during a busy time like after a s rank hunt.
I got both a PS4 and Steam version of FFXIV, I can switch over to the PS4 version if things cause some issues with Steam. Honestly that sucks to hear if they plan on enforcing this on players. Less options is never a good idea.
Does this also extends to the Japanese playerbase too? If not... a lot of US players might not want to continue showing support.
I'll sign as well to help support this. I wonder why SE decided to do this all of a sudden.
Sadly, and based on years of seeing this, it usually just means they've closed your ticket and to please stop bothering them. The one time I got a human response to submit it to a supervisor was over 5 months ago and despite requests for updates it just gets black holed, and this was for a separate account I had which is eternally stuck lol. Granted its not the company as a whole, and more so the support base in NA, but still their actions are what make up the perception from teh community on how they really feel about their jobs. Speaking as a former GM ( not to SE ) I understand there are certain policies and guidelines to follow as well as things that cannot be said, but to blackhole most things and setting a standard to it doesn't look good as a whole...GRANTED there's not much we can do but abandon our hours put into the game which I'm pretty sure most won't do despite the claims, and would be a huge waste since a small dent like that wouldn't be noticed anyways to them, so honestly it just sucks.
Japangets so much more Attentionactually gets attention at least, just sadly they're use of Steam is quite limited. I just wish the NA forums at least had a small handful of Mod's to pass on information instead of taking a flood to get noticed.
Doesn't stop me from continuing to try and be somewhat hopeful though...
signed too o/
Everything has been already said, but I want to add that FOR ME this feels like a trap, we're not only trapped on steam forever, now we're gonna be trapped on their servers and probably lose days of suscription (and money), because I'm sure SE won't do anything if we can't log in
Wonder if we can get a creator to ask about this at fanfest,
not the steam requirement cause that is what square or valve already decided, Just the option to buy separate non steam keys for our accounts.
I know personally i would rather quit then start a new character, I'm sure many are the same,
but I lvoe this game enough to not leave until there are issues and square knows that.
So the question is, can steam trust valve's servers to not irritate enough players. I would love a mass expansion boycott till they enabled it but i know that wont happen. (i did ask about pre-order refunds just waiting on response for myself to evaluate the steam change)
I love how everyone in this thread is just making up reasons as to why this happened.
PS4, Mac and Windows are liscences that allow you to share characters.
Steam does not.
Do you not understand that this is a Steam issue and not SE? You think SE wants to hear their whiny NA community all the time?
Literally every time they can make an accommodation, SE does. They fact they announced this and didn't say "hey hop on over to a PC liscence" is telling in itself.
I mean, I'm happy to be wrong but does anyone have a source confirming SE is absolutely responsible for this or are you just making stuff up?
The evidence shows with 3/4 liscences they all their players to share character data... So logically you better have this petition on the Steam Forums as well where it might actually make an impact.
I can also confirm that I can play my characters both on my Steam PC version and the PS4.
I think a lot of folks are misunderstanding the two issues here. First, most folks just want the chance to BUY regular PC codes to apply to their account so that we have the option of continuing to launch the game without Steam (whatever our reasons for that might be).
Second, there is currently no issue right now because Steam isn't making FFXIV check against its notoriously poor authentication servers. The upcoming change sounds like it will soon be forced to do just that. See ESO for all the problems that can and probably will happen to FFXIV.
So people here would like to buy PC codes so that when Steam acts up they don't lose access to FFXIV. Steam cannot help us with this, they do not control our SE accounts and how platform licenses are stored. Going to their forums wouldn't solve this issue.
Hoping this will help, I am voicing my concerns as well. I would like SE to provide a way for us to switch over our account. A lot of us have put hundreds if not thousand of hours into this game - not to mention the sub fees we have paid. I hope that they listen to the community - I'm not holding my breath but I'm not going to keep silent over it either. So I would encourage everyone to tell anyone they can about this issue and then make a formal complaint.
Consider this signed from me as well. I haven't used Steam in years and honestly refuse to do so with the random updates to games and the issue the client has thinking the FFXIV game files are corrupt.
Please SE allow us to convert our Steam account into a standard PC license, even if this is going to cost us. There is too many extra steps involved with Steam that currently isn't there because we can launch the game normally outside of Steam.
A lot of people when they first started did not know the difference between Steam and PC when they first started and if Valve's terrible authentication servers stay true, there are going to be a lot of issues. Especially once the expansion hits and their terrible infrastructure is overloaded with authentication requests from people coming back to play the game
