Darkside Aura .. hurts my eyes. Can't turn it off.

Been following this post for awhile now and now I feel the need to comment. I bought this game intrigued with all the classes (specially Drk or I wouldn't of bother commenting on this) knowing full well that Drks had this "Badass black aura with flames" and I thought to myself that it was really amazing! After seeing this bleeding eyesore of an aura and knowing it's not gonna be fixed is a betrayal to the class. And now with Esoteric gear that's basically AF2 gear it's basically giving us a carrot on a stick, we're not fully Dark knights. I don't feel like the Dark counterpart to a shining knight, I just feel like a knight with wonky auras that hurt my eyes after an hour of playing. I'm sorry SE but you really let me down, I paid for an expansion with a class that I really loved since the old FF days. Really dissapointed.

I'd rather have no aura than have the one we do now. Isn't that sad?

To be honest so would I, if we cant get either the lvl 50 one or the original, i would rather have none

It doesn't to me atm, wasn't the point of it switch to you're dark side from the lvl 50 quest? This isn't that same aura that the other me had, and i know for a fact he wasn't a sayian from DBZ with this kaioken nonsense.

I stopped playing my DRK because of this effect. It's an eye sore and should be corrected.

Just to add in what I've posted to another thread:

I'd like to add my vote in favour of changing the effect.

It's a massive eyesore, very disruptive - both in battle and in towns, especially - and actually fatigues me after a while of looking at the screen with it active. It's such a huge, ephemeral effect that my eyes have trouble focussing on the immediate area around my character on the screen, giving me a headache after few dungeons.

That, and it also seems to be such a low-quality visual effect when compared with the usual Square Enix standard across the other jobs (and the game's battle effects in general). It simply looks rushed, and could do with some serious looking-at considering it was intended to be a persistent effect.

I also agree that the level 50 job quest NPC's effect looks 5000x better, and would love that to be its replacement - but again, anything would be better than the current effect, if only to prevent having to take some ibuprofen after every play session.

In terms of having either the black flames/aura from the level 50 quest, while it'd be cool to have it always on when darkside is up, even just during the duration of dark arts similar to blood of the dragon would be sufficient for me.

I would honestly rather have no aura than what we have now. I turn it off as soon as I can. Despite the rough road with bugs and whantot, I still love DRK as a class. It's just the horrible aura! I would, as others have suggested, love the one from the level 50 DRK quest.

The current aura gives me a headache =/.

Yeah I've also been getting more frequent headaches after seeing the aura for too long to the point where I'd rather keep the aura off till I have to turn it on

Yep I tend to get some headaches while playing with the aura on aswell, it gets worse when doing FATES with alot of Dark knights.

Yeah. Dark Arts buff can use some indicator if it's up or not

For fellow DRKs, let's make a campaign. No Darkside till aura changed, lol

Never said it shouldn't be changed, just trying to rationalize why it's probably not as simple as reverting it to the demo version. I wouldn't be too surprised if it was a bandage solution while they decide what to do.

Adding the 50 quest aura would definitely be the easiest method(though I can't comment on its quality, since I haven't seen it in motion), but them redoing the particles from scratch and adding them in another 3.0X(ideally not as late as 3.1) is also possible.

I say we have two optional auras. One being the lvl 50 npc aura, and the other being the original.

I'd love to have those flames.

If i went around with battle effects on for everyone, i'd imagine i would get headaches.

I'd rather modify the ongoing effect , and make it toggleable like every other battle effect.

I know there was a animation on the DRK reveal that showed them running their hand across the blade for something I would have thought it be for dark side. We want the black flames SE you've already showed you have the stuff to do it so the issue you say that it would look weired is a terrible excuse. The living water is a good example that you can keep these animations while moving in effect. Also the flames on the crafted Ifrit weapons move around as you move I seen it so get to work.

that's my point they made that possible but their using the excuse that it look odd while we move with black flames around us.

With so many ppl complaining they gotta do something and change the aura.

This is literally the only place i hear complaints.

I hate it too, makes me play drk less than I would without that effect. Big design flaw. They'll have to redo it at some point.

I have no issues with the aura. Having said that, I do think it should have fallen under the filter for not seeing other player effects. At least it doesn't completely block the view of an enemy and their aoe targeting zone when in melee combat distance like some spells from ranged combatants can that get spammed.

That aura is so much better than what we have.

This aura still does not seem bad to me. I have all game settings on the highest setting and it still seems fine. The way you all talk it is taking over your entire screen....

No, seriously, the red aura gives me a headache. I know it doesn't give everyone a headache, but it definitely gives me one. Yes, it might not give you one. That doesn't mean I'm lying. Seriously. My visual experience isn't like yours, which also means that your visual experience isn't like mine. The game should accommodate everyone. That's why it has colorblind-friendly mechanics where shapes differ in addition to colors, because not everyone's visual experience is the same.

I can't turn it off. There's no graphics option that will disable it. If someone has the aura on in a city, my only option is to go somewhere else (which I do). In cities other than Ishgard, if one is at a summoning bell, I can go to another bell. I can't do that in Ishgard where there is only one. Same with market boards. I've started avoiding cities, especially Ishgard, and only using bells/boards in housing districts where people are more likely to not leave the aura on.

Yes, people can be annoying in any class by spamming bright, flashy skills, but for other classes, they have to actually keep hitting the button and not be AFK. DRKs AFK all the time in high traffic areas with the red aura and there's nothing I can do except leave. It's not just looking at them that hurts, having the camera anywhere near them hurts because the aura goes so far from the character model.

And I doubt most even do it to troll - this is a skill you can leave on all the time outside of combat which gives a benefit when you get into combat, like Deliverance or Sword Oath. DRKs shouldn't have to turn off their aura because it gives me a headache. I should be able to turn off their aura on my computer, or their aura shouldn't be headache-inducing. Please do something. Even just making it black or actual blood color (darker red/purple/brown), or making it move slower, or keeping it tighter to the character model, any of those would help. Or, make the graphics option to turn off other players' graphical effects actually turn it off like it should.


Also, on an unrelated note, it looks dumb. Just saying.

I also find the effect very annoying. I don't play DRK and don't play with DRKs often, so it's not greatly affecting my game experience. However, on a few hunts, I've been piled up with a few DRKs and I couldn't stand it.

It would be better if the effect moved more slowly. I'm also down for removing it entirely, or having an option to hide it.

Just because the old aura looks bad on a horse doesn't mean the the current aura looks any better.

I understand the answer was just to give us an explanation in the thought process. This however is my way of chiming in and showing that I too as well as the rest of the community would still like a change despite that explanation.

I'm still really surprised the aura doesn't look like this lore wise, but again anything looks better than what we have currently.

Like lots in here except those with eye problems, I am disappointed. Ask the Dev. Team to make it looks like before while standing still, and if we move, just remove it!

To be in your 'character', role-playing wise, feels good.

Insert and option to set it to off for other clients that do no wish to see it; but come on SE, we are here for the graphics, the main story (please give more XP per main quests and skip these nonsense side quests) and to have a good time, with friends or alone.

We know you can do it, as we saw it already.

The more I look at this, the more I just want the flames and not something new. The flames are cool, it gives a much, much better look than any aura does. I mean we see plenty of auras around already, even if not something always near permanent.

I just want them to find a way to make this work, and give us the flames back.

Edit: Oh and make the aura obey the outside party visual effect thing. it's the least they can do for the people who apparently get a headache looking at it. Though if the black flames are added, I feel that might relieve some of that problem seeing as the flames would be the focal point of the entire aura, not leaving you to not have to focus on really nothing while the red stuff tries to touch everyone around you.

If we don't give up on this and keep pushing then they're bound to change the aura.Too many players are being annoyed by it.
