Seriously, 100% agree. I'm a girl and I have a girl character and a guy character. Who cares! :D

What the...? How did you get any of that from my post? First of all, no to all your questions. I was simply saying you were insinuating a lot from his OP (like you did to mine, seriously calm down), and that I feel you're digging too deep to find a hidden agenda. Am I being clear now? Serious question, not condescending.
Well it does matter if you become friends with someone. It doesn't hurt to know a little bit more about them.
I'm 1.0 as well~! So this is just a view of my basement:

~sigh~
Okay I'll just wrap up this whole topic by saying the same thing to you guys as I say to my real life fiance, whom I game with on FFXIV as well . . . as long as she is logged into game - she is a guy - period. Her character is female, and in real life she is female, but as long as she is logged on - she is a one of the guys.
End of story :)
I'm sorry but I very very rarely run into females. I don't consider mobile games real gamers which ironically I noticed a lot in that department. I hate the fact more companies have gone this route because it brings in "more" income. I know that's being biased but that how I feel on the matter.
Im totally a girl.
No serious. I play elezen male, but I'm a girl. None of my fc and static treats me as a girl though. So, it's not about their real gender, more like what you want to see their gender is. >_>
Proof of how my raid members treats me: http://www.twitch.tv/fnremy/c/6231388
Me too and I wish I could dye them as well... >.<
Thank you!! yeah I saved up a long time for this XD lol mostly because I wanted to garden onion for myself for my chocobo lol trying to get him to 20 - he just hit 14 a min ago. :)
I'm parsing your first and second sentences like this:
"I don't see women so women don't play this game"
"Woman play mobile games, which makes them not real gamers"
I'm really hoping that that wasn't the sentiment you were trying to convey.
You don't run into women that identify themselves as women is what I suspect is happening. Roughly half of the people in my normal in game friend circle are women and the guy/girl ratio I've seen in FF is way more balanced than what you see in say, WoW.
I don't care what gender other players are, because it's irrelevant to me. Most girl gamers I know don't like to draw extra attention to themselves because they just want to be able to play the game and not be asked what they look like or what they're wearing which kind of breaks immersion I'd imagine. For that reason, if you see a character running around looking like Hooker Barbie- it's a male player. 99.9% of the time. All the female players I know look like regular girls or Lalafells.
Here's the best way to know who a female player is- its when one decides to tell you, of their own accord. If they never bring it up, then it they don't find it relevant, and common courtesy would be to let them play the game the way they want without bringing real life details into it.
OMG yes.
most of us in the FC know what gender we all are due to voice chat, but no one has ever said or been asked directly what gender they were.
honestly when just chatting to people in FC chat (text only), little bits of personal information often filter though. what kind of food you like, if you have any pets, stuff like that.
it's better to see if you can just make a friend, often being labelled a gender (doesn;t matter which) can put various pressures/agendas on one and other whether warranted or not. and gawd who wants that when a video game is for escapism.
I'm one of the weird people. I'm a guy, I play a lala, I have a female alt that not only do I take care of Making sure she isn't dressed "skanky", but I don't pretend to be her or a girl. she is her own person. And when I play on her I refer to her as such. As a 3rd person perspective, I'm just watching over and aiding as she saves the land. And no its not RP it's just how I affiliate with her
We have a large % of females in our FC, and I'm not taking guys who play girls. Also you'd be surprised how many girls play games - and Im not talking mobile/Facebook games. I'm talking PC and console games. It's a lot larger than you think.
Quote:
But the average female gamer has played for 13 years, and many are increasingly dedicated. The number of girls and women playing those consoles more than five days a week has grown tenfold since 2011, to 13 million this year, Newzoo said.
and that is discussing console games, not mobile games.Quote:
Gaming in 2011: About 30 Million males and 10 million females played games on Sony and Microsoft's big consoles. About About 1.2 million girls and women said they played five days a week or more.
...and gaming in 2014: the number of female gamers grew more than 70 percent (to 30.3 million), while males grew 45 percent (to 45.3 million). More than 13 million girls and women said they play five days or more a week -- 11 times as many as in 2011.
Edit: i would also like to point out this:
So just because you don't see us, doesn't mean we aren't playing.Quote:
Yet America's 190 million gamers, 48 percent of whom are women, still play in a harsh frontier. About 70 percent of female gamers said they played as male characters online in hopes of sidestepping sexual harassment, according to a study cited by "Hate Crimes in Cyberspace" author and law professor Danielle Keats Citron.

I'm a female IRL who plays a male Mi'qote. Not just to curb the stupid comments but also because I don't want to spend all my game hours looking at some chick's rear end.
Just sayin' women are nearly half the gamers. Regardless of platform. I mean, I personally don't care for console players. I won't go out of my way to say they're not gamers. Do you play videogames? Yes? BAM GAMER! A lot of the time, you won't even know if they're a women or not. Most women don't go out of their way to specify their gender. You've likely played with many, but you just didn't know it. Unless you always play with a specific group, in which case your experiences are limited and thus unrepresentative of gaming as a whole.
Also, side note. Am I the only one who plays and doesn't just stay at my toons butt? Like I don't think I've ever been in a situation where the ONLY thing there was to look at it my butt. I just never understood the "I don't want to stare at a guy/girls butt all day!". The last thing I usually do is look at my butt. Maybe that's why people seem to never move out of the bad stuff...
None of you are real. You're all just cats pounding on a keyboard, and using ELIZA software when in TS3/Vent.

Dammit! How do they always know?
Funny you say this... I don't know if this guy was joking or not but back in FFXI this new player started and was saying how awesome the AI and interaction was in the game. Another asking him what he meant, and he basically said "Because you're all responding to me like you were real." and someone replied that "You know this is a mmo and we are real people right?"
He thought people were talking to him because it was programmed that way. XD I still - to this day - hope he was joking. XD
I don't lol, but I know people who say that. And there was that one thread at some point where the person was complaining about how their miqo'tes butt was different and flatter in 2.0 vs 1.0 XD

They're onto us....
Worry not for I am a girl that plays male cat boys.... because Kitty kitty mmmm meow mix. The gender balance is saved!
As for that, I would ask. I know to many male IRL players that use cute emoticons and LOL a lot and too many female players IRL that dress their avatars in the sluttiest things they can find. I know men that would cringe at playing anything other than a male toon and females the same way. Then you have people like me who play what ever is aesthetically pleasing to them. The Guys that play girls and the girls that play guys, because quite frankly If I am going to be clocking the hours that I do on this game.... I really don't want to clock them staring and some girls rear, no more than I doubt you want to stare at some guys rear given your marriage comment.
People are people. Its just best to ask.
He probably was...probably... but I'm betting that the MMO experience is still jarring for some FF console players. "That NPC just told me to stop standing in shit. When did square's development team get so foul mouthed?!" If they actually implement the grand company dungeon run thing (you bring 3 NPCs along and solo dungeons), I hope beyond hope that SE includes a "stop standing in shit" comment from the NPC healer. Have the NPCs have three interaction settings "Civil" - "Coarse" - "Crystal Tower Troll"
I didn’t read all the posts so I have no idea if this was mentioned already.
I gave this some sarcastic thought awhile ago and came up with the assumption that all female Roegadyns are in fact females.
In my thinking female Roegadyns are too masculine and butch looking for any male to play. Men want to look at their own feminine booty in a swimsuit.
No man wants to play Brienne of Tarth
yeah I hope he was too...and this was early on right after the game came out in the US so could have been unexpected for them. Also, lol yeah sometimes I see some of the stuff NPC's say in here and I just start cracking up. Like the guy up by the bazzar that talks about the women giving him some kinda disease. Also the other guy behind the building at the end of the bridge on the way to Moraby and they are basically talking about sex lol. Its great some of the stuff you find XD

We must act!
I'll tell my FC this. We'll get a good laugh. (about 1/3-1/2 females)
Also, when I tried playing mobile co-op games, most others I met were guys. Sadly, some were so misogynistic that I felt it wisest to pretend I was a guy. Luckily, I don't have to do that in XIV (though I did have some random guy "pinch" my butt and send me a tell asking if I wanted more. I'm gonna guess that guy felt the ban hammer pretty rapidly.) A FC mate of mine even said once, "Wow, I didn't realize this game was such a chick magnet." XDDDD
Wonderful, a thread full of broad generalizations about gender in 2015.
I thought my FC was almost all girls until getting on TeamSpeak. XD Just based on the very small sample pool of my FC, I've noticed that the more "normal" a female character's name is, the more likely it is that it's actually a male playing the character. For some reason, it seems that males (at least in my FC) have a tendency to pick actual girls' names for their female characters, while the IRL girls use weird/fantasy-esque names that often don't sound particularly feminine.
There have actually been studies done on this. Some basic things I remember are that males tend to move their avatars backwards more often, jump with a much greater frequency, tend to stay further distance away from their party members, and tend to choose more traditionally attractive avatars.
