They said new wards Soon™ after 3.0, so it's a waiting game now. I'm hanging out in an abandoned and nearly empty guild house planning my future decoration. There's pretty much 5 items in the whole house and I haven't ran into anyone because I'm pretty sure none of them play anymore so it makes planning easy, how nice of them.

Hope they limit housing per account when they add housing, it isn't as simple as walking up to the sign and clicking buy but I'm aware of a few people who own many houses (will use alts or quickly level a satellite FC). Even then there is little you can do to block some of the methods of multiple house ownership.

Or... Just truely instance the sucker. lol

Im on Gilg, not a single open plot. In fact, one free company decided to purchase 4 plots of land. This housing system isnt broken at all. /sarcasm

I'm trying to save up 4 million for my own small plot to call my own, but right now if things turn out predictable as usual it will simply become scalpers paradise and no one outside of the 5% super rich are going to own anything on Balmung. I'd be satisfied with just a room, honestly, but they tied that to free companies and if you get booted you lose your investment in the room, which is no small sum at 300k gil. Still more affordable than the freaking 25+ million gil people want to simply relinquish a plot.

They really should implement an auto-eviction for people that don't log in for at least 6 months minimum. 6 months seems a reasonable time frame for those busy with things or for those taking a break. Or at the very least make FC chambers abit cheaper.

Sadly, SE made it clear that wont happen.

The very least they can do is to stop making it so that useful things such as Thavnairian Onions, Chocobo dyes, minions, etc can be grown in the garden. As I said before, houses aren't for vanity since you can easily make back your money and then some through little effort via gardening. This needs to stop.

Really priority over moving houses instead of making house available? The housing team needs to visit the 1.0 team. Both are producing a similar quality product. Serviceable but extremely lacking.

So it sounds like availability is not a concern for them... That makes me sad. sure opening up ishgard will draw people there but there still so many problems with they way its done, it will be another two hour window for housing, and thats being generous...

Still think that without unlimited plots you cant allow players to have multiple plots or sit on them for the life of the account.

The easiest and best solution is to create instanced personal housing you earn through the 4.0 storyline (cause it will take that long to implement.)

I hope that they actually take the opportunity with Ishgard to redesign the system a bit. My FC is a small close group that has a house (and we all scrambled like mad to make sure we were ready when they opened the second set of wards) but I feel for the people who don't have access to housing for whatever reason.

Personal housing should have always been instanced, not in the wards. Even if they just do an XI style mog-room "apartment" in Ishgard and add flower pots and a chocobo stable npc where you can "rent" a stall in the stable there it would be a great improvement.

It could even make sense lore-wise since given its structure, I doubt most people in Ishgard live in homes like what are in the wards or like the Fortemps have anyways.

They can still add wards too, for those who want that.

IMO, I still stand by my feeling that they can keep FC houses neighborhood'd, but it'd be cool if personal houses were instanced...but that's just me.

Yeah, the way they do personal housing makes absolutely zero logical sense.

It makes sense for FC housing to work the way it does now. I get that. But personal housing should be instanced, just like your mog house was in FFXI. This is one thing Wildstar does right.

I'm really hoping when they release Ishgardian housing that they'll have the sense to add more small houses. These are the ones that sell out the fastest since they're the most affordable by the general population.

I really miss how "Mr. Housing" Wada was so excited and positive about housing. I wonder, if he was still with the game, would he have fought for some of the changes talked about in this thread (and many others). Please, Yoshi-P, More needs to be done than just the addition of Ishgard Housing. Please Please Please acknowledge it. Don't need a detailed plan of attack, simply say "we realize there are some issues with availability in the housing wards of the highly populated servers. While we cannot release details we are in the process of reevaluating the situation. Please look forward to it."

I hope SE doesn't see this as a low priority because it is just vanity, as it is not (not only special features but housing can pay for itself via gardening, a passive income that is not difficult to keep in cycle).

I know I've said it before but imo instance housing would be so much better - I have faith if SE had a system like Rift or Wildstar they'd make it much better. small city, chocobo ranch, wizard tower, blissful house on the beach, mog island w.e... So much power could be had - and everyone could partake. At least personally if there was that much power I'd bet FC would want to join in too. I know I said before a neighborhood effect could be quite neat but I didn't imagine SE would do it like this... xD, I thought more like sharing a zone rifty style.

If they ever got to the point where everyone wanted a realm instead of the hamlet system- I think it could be very cute to instead of wasting the resource they make it an NPC village, could even make it a bit Dark Cloud and be sort of a Mayor for the town lol.

Also the feeling of having a place to call home is incredible.. so I believe SE should consider making appartments in the city with a very low quality one being free via MSQ with moogle! (then linking the door to your FC, if you purchase a magical portal door for 300K).

Anyway, hope the silence is fear of their system not being completely awesome and looking into ways to fix it*. Technically they can just add more hamlets as needed (bit like Lotr), but I drool over the possibility of being able to basically have a simplified creator's toolkit (about half my ElderScrolls time is inside the toolkit and not even playing the game xD).

*Silence as in they haven't said "this is an issue that we intend to solve asap" but have said something like "we want to improve the housing system before we add more houses, also we have no idea when we will add more". Can argue that isn't silence but I'd still say it is an undesirable acknowledgment of an issue.

Absolutely! Between Choco-colouring, Gardening, Furnishing, Buffs, and now the new FC flight stuff and Group Crafting, people without homes are getting shut out of more and more content. There is also 0 consideration to new players. I have to agree that instanced "Personal" housing would be much better. Make it a MSQ reward somewhere in the 3.X or even as far off as the 4.X series. You gain your own plot of land that is cluttered and looks like shit. You have to clear the rocks, trees, etc to make room for your house. The plot size can be upgradable, House size can be upgradable, you can place a garden patch, a Choco stable, etc on your land. You can invite people to come to your house, you can have open invitation to people you trust and they can do small things like water the garden for you but nothing major like move furniture. There are so many more possibilities with a separate instance for personal housing, easier to add in more server room as it is needed, linked to the account, one plot per character (or even do it server wide for all chrs on that server for that account), etc.

But...

Leave FC housing the way it is, keep the amount of plots we currently have, Don't even need to change the price, only remove the personal homes from the equation. FC homes are fine as it is, the problem came when personal homes were thrown in the mix. I think the addition of instanced personal homes would really solve all issues people are having with houses.

I'm kind of against the "apartment" idea. It's not different than a slightly larger Inn room that we already have and will not meet the expectations many people have in mind when they think personal house. The hamlet idea also sounds like something better suited for an offline game or to be the mayor of a beast tribe that is trying to establish themselves. I like the Idea of Hamlets being reintroduced but not linked to player housing.

I too hope that no news means good news but throw us a bone. Give us a glimmer of hope. You have no idea how hard it is to explain FFXIV housing to someone who's thinking of playing and actually sound excited about it. "You can do all these things with a house! Its amazing! But you can throw out any hope of owning one cause you werent playing the game and hording millions of gill since its launch."

*touch touch*... :P Just my imo that if they made a fully featured instance system that guilds would like to have their own "rift" too (and at that point hamlets would become less and less used). Was thinking of a Dark Cloud system mostly because we will continue to grow in power and running an area as a leader might make sense (like Duelle posted a team system not long ago). So yes it does sound like a sRPG feature because I was thinking Suikoden and Dark Cloud lol. Also I wasn't thinking about it but, WoW's garrison is sort of like this (blacksmith here, john's house there, look better than WoW - check check).

I haven't really been following this thread and just poked my head in at random, but a thought struck me when reading a few posts...

Many want Ishgard housing, but Ishgard and surrounding areas are locked behind 2.x (areas behind most of 3.0), so anyone joining an FC that has a house there would be locked away from the house. But what if they were to add personal housing only in those places? It might make some higher leveled people move out of the existing wards, leaving spaces for FC's to have plots and houses. Not a perfect solution, but a way to ease the pressure a bit, perhaps?

that's not what the comment was? making housing available can be done by increasing the number of wards in the 3 existing housing zones.

making housing in Ishgard doesn't just make more houses available. they want to not penalize people who currently have houses so that they can move from their current plots to the new plots if they so desire.

my FC would love to move from our Medium Plot in Lavender Beds to a Large plot anywhere but we have no ability to do that. giving us that ability opens up a Medium plot for someone else.

You can -make- gil if you are smart about it. I had 8 million gil on Excalibur before Balmung, I did some research and it turned out that some of the primal drops were quite a bit more expensive on Balmung. I bought those and resold them, ended up with 12 million gil after it was all sold.

Sorry, i was quoting you to point out that it still doesnt really solve the problem with availability, not in the long run. I think they have to revisit personal housing, it should never have been implemented this way, its not personal at all. It creates extra stress on servers they are already saying are pressed to the max. Don;t get me wrong, the things they talked about, making transfers easier, are a good thing and might help out but then there are still many more flaws with the system to the point that people are being barred from content for no other fault then they didnt buy a plot fast enough when the servers are up. I've gone over most of them in this thread earlier but I can elaborate if you like.

The funny part with FF14 housing is, I identified the plot layout right away. It's identical to the Lord of the Rings Online housing system. It's not ground up coding, it's cookie cutter, bought off the shelf. Knowing that, I also know the Lord of the Rings Online housing system is a giant waste of resources. They have dozens of instances per server sitting empty. Mostly because they have an account, vault system and personal storage that is 5% the cost of housing storage upgrades and it's so much easier to make storage mules.

Honest, I'd rather see them continue to add more features to the Inn rooms and leave housing where it is. A glamor version of features we all have.

The existing housing situation is great for the FC housing. but please, give me my own plot of land in my own little instance for a personal house!

I realize this is kinda old news by now but really? THIS is the problem they see with housing? How about people who own houses but their accounts have been dormant and inactive for 6 months or greater? Can we get those plots released? How about adding more wards too? I would really like to partake in the new systems coming out (and the ones we already have that I cant access), pretty please SE?

Not exactly a complete solution but If we could transfer our whole FC, Gill and all, I know we would all chip in for this! This isnt going to fix all the issues but as long as it doesnt come with a $100+ price tag, it will be a good start, especially with the upcoming EU Data Center!

This is the most promising thing I have read regarding houses! Hopefully we can see some more people in houses by Patch 3.1/3.2. I also like the plot transfer system, this allows for upgrading and that is a great thing! When they talk about either opening up Ishgard or adding more wards to existing areas, I strongly think they need to do both!

I know there are lots of people like me out there that really want to get into the housing part of this Theme-park. While its not the fix many of us were hoping for (Instance Personal Houses) it is at least a start.



Housing Transfers:
Makes lots of sense. If done right its like upgrading your plot. Hopefully its one of those "Pay the difference" kind of upgrades instead of trying to sell and recoup your costs then hope that plot is still open and you have enough, it can be a quick upgrade. Nice for those smaller FC's who want a mansion but are slower to accrue gil so they buy a small for a temporary homestead.

Reclaiming Abandoned Houses:
I seriously thought this was already in place until earlier this year. Yes, it sucks to take a break then come back to no house but there are people who are still playing that would love to use it in the mean time. I don't mind the idea of a maintenance fee or something to maintain the plot. Regardless, there needs to be something in place that will default the property (especially personal houses) back to "the bank" so there is at least a chance of some of the rest of us getting a home. At some point we have to decide that they may not be coming back and if they do, they have to accept that their house got repossessed. Its how RL works right?

Open Ishgard OR add more areas to existing plots:
They need to do both. If they are going to insist on personal homes being linked to this communal, limited environment then there needs to be at least one plot per person for a minimum of 70% of your servers population. They also need to limit each FC to a single house and each player to a single personal home. If they are making more and more content linked directly to housing (Airships, Gardening, Choco colouring, etc) then they need to make it attainable. First-come-first-served is a terrible format for anything in a MMO (Sorry, only enough Alex Savage rewards for the first 600 people to clear it per server... period)

Reclaiming old housing shouldn't be that controversial. Many games have done this and it is usually if not always a good idea. It is not hard to log in once every three or so months, (nearly) nobody has a schedule that is -that- tight. It takes a few minutes to log in, and log back out.

As for those who deactivate their account during that time, there is no way of even knowing if said players are even coming back, why should that plot remain in permanent ownership? Especially when Square Enix continues to tote this limited memory and server space excuse for a number of features, it doesn't make sense at all. :l

Lol, ya. I saw someone selling a small plot on Balmung in party finder. The regular rate is between 4mil and 8mil when buying from the server. I offered 2 mil just to see what he would say. Basically told me to F off cause he was looking for 30mil as a STARTING price. For a small plot?!? You can keep your house for that. Saddest part, I bet it sold that night...
