What is all his friends are in his static and they only log in for raid days?
What if his small group of friends don't need help?
Why would anyone want to invest in meeting random people on the internet when there is a big world full of interesting people to meet in real life?
Warylx's situation is completely common to any decent raid group. Game play for him is literally 2-3 hours a week. Is the rest of the game supposed to be charity work for the unskilled masses? I have better things to do with my time than to hop into random PF groups to help people win their pixels. The rest of the game should not be some IRC chat with monsters to kill.
I still have tons of content available to me, I'm still not looking forward to it, the game has alot of flaws.
I was one of the ones who took a few months to beat the story, read every quest dialogue, however bad they got, I'm still not enjoying the game. Did crafting and gathering, enjoyed time with friends and helped others
It's not just the hardcore elites
I stay in contact with the friends I made but that's the extent
The most enjoyment I have gotten from the game is collecting minions, fishing and filling out my fishing log, and spiritbonding and levelling choco up, helping new players, yet none of those are enough reason to keep paying $13 a month
& for all those saying I don't even like the game...
I could never hate a game that has Metroid Prime music during the heart phase of a certain primal :3
Also... the FFXI final boss theme sounds near identical to the Ocarina of Time final boss theme.
Isn't there a sub-board General Discussion --> call the waaambulance section somewhere?
You think this game is button mash friendly? I'd hate to be in any dungeon with you. Queue into an extreme primal and try your button mashing technique. Lol
And the world is lifeless? What mmo looks better than ffxiv right now?
Point is, you're offering 0 new information with this post and offering 0 suggestions. You decided to quit before you made it, so why you make it? I have a feeling this is a case of the rage quits caused by numerous failed attempts at titan hm or something of that sort. xP
I'm sorry, I didn't realise hitting the same buttons over and over again in the exact same fashion for everything in the entire game wasn't button smashing, my bad!
I've done up to Extreme Titan, got to Superbombs till we failed, it just wasn't an enjoyable fight.
If you'd go back and read what I've said (for the gazillionth time) the game is pretty, gorgeous even. It's still dull and lifeless.
I don't know why I even respond to you guys anymore, I've answered this exact same reply literally 5+ times already.
If you want suggestions, go through the actual thread instead of reading the title.
I'm sick of explaining that so many times, I'll go and bold it out
Hopefully the big bold letters help aleviate all of these reposts!
This is a video game. If your not having fun then look for a different mmo, genre, hobby or something else you can enjoy in your spare time.
This is the only MMO that interests me, & I haven't played any others.
I enjoyed alot in this game, as well as by SE. I love the music by Soken, the art by Akihiko Yoshida, the lore and visuals by the ARR team, as well as the classes.
The things I didn't enjoy, and quite a few others I'd presume do detract and I'd like for the game to grow. Living up to its Final Fantasy name.
If this never becomes the game I had hoped it to be, I'd be somewhat dissapointed but not to say I don't have other things to keep me busy.
It is just a game as you said, but it's also a product I purchased I've already spent around $100 on.
Dun think its a good idea to vent on the general forums
only crowd you're talking 2 is the Square Enix defenders
Well... You're obviously just not enjoying the game.
I mean, I understand your reasons, they are perfectly valid, but they are not worth a 26 page thread in general discussion. Not because you don't have the right to complain (of course you do), but because it's not really achieving anything. If the game's gonna go through changes it's gonna be because the devs deemed it so, not because of this thread. The devs want feedback, but at one point it stops being feedback and it start to be just ranting, and this thread passed that point long ago.
thanks you Licus for explaining it for me , u hit the nail on the head.
yes i help friends and LSmates , if they need help ! , thats why i leveled a PLD and SCH in the 1 place to help fill slots for dungeons and whatnot :P
thanks for judging me guess that was expected , but when i dont play FFXIV , i play other mmorpg (yes u can play more than 1) played FFXI for years , Daoc/swg/eq before that.
or if im not in the mod of mmorpgs , play a game while talking with friends over skype/ts (playing might and magic legacy <3 good memorys!)
So this is the only mmo youve ever played. You dont even have anything to compare it to. maybe you just don't like mmos because I can tell you right now this is one of the least lifeless feeling mmos out there. every storyline isnt going to be as good as a standalone single player rpg. Mmos aren't about the story. Even so, I did read your post, not just the title. Still no point to your post. Why are you still here?

And you keep saying "the game you had hoped it would be." What exactly does that mean? You have no ground to stand on bro. You're just complaining to complain.
Finally someone reasonable who doesn't have to resort to name calling and berating others
I know this thread won't magically change the game, but it does let the gamers and possibly even devs show what is flawed with the game, and what players find to be flawed and how we could work towards changing it.
As an aside, where do you believe this thread should have been put?
Well I've played Demon/Dark Souls, White Knight Chronicles 2 and Runescape, but I was legitamately not sure if those are even considered MMOs
- Demon/Dark Souls not being persistent multiplayer games
- WKC2 not being fully multiplayer either, and terribly flawed in some aspects and grindy but did some things right
- Runescape I think was the most MMO'y, but it was completely solo oriented, flawed and grindy but I loved the fleshed out quests, music, side events and crafting/gathering and the economy was more lively
About the hoped it had been, it was mostly pertaining to beta, trailers, and the Final Fantasy brand behind it.
This is the kind of game that needs to incentivise you to play it, I can go play something like Okami just to do trials, painting, bosses or minigames for the fun of it
This game doesn't add necessarily fun content but moreso content that is designed to try and prey on players with addictive personalities I think
Your comment on the elemental wheel and more team synergized specific actions was tried before ARR on the old XIV.I liked alot of what the original XIV attempted better never fleshed out.
Any zone could use explorable environments.I want to get lost sometimes, it's what makes each journey fresh and unpredictable.
As for your comments on the other disciples. The old XIV tried making those alot more deeper than they currently are. A decision was made to downplay that and focus on the battle classes.
I see many things you ask for that were present in the original XIV. They went a different direction over the course of two years. And I highly doubt they are going to revert back again and make the game FFXIV A Realm Reincarnated X 2.
You should try FFXI with some close friends together then come back and see with more clarity what this game does good as far as Final Fantasy goes.
The only thing I want is more "true" options to solo or group. For quests, for everything in ARR.
Actually the larger a thread, the more likely the Mods are going to attract Dev attention to that thread due to it being a hot topic.
Some people are choosing to attack opinions rather than intelligently debate why they feel that point might not be correct. MMO Developers make money from a Majority not a Minority, if the Majority isn't happy, then the game either changes to fit that Majority or the game becomes free to play in order to increase the Minority to a Majority.
This game has costs that SE needs to balance, losing subs is bad for balancing the books. When a game starts losing money things start to become very grim.
FFXIV isn't losing money yet, but it's on the same trend as games like SWTOR, bleeding subs at a rate that it'll have to go Free to Play or some other drastic action to pay for the costs in a few months, Dead or Dying servers are the first sign.
Note there are Dead or Dying servers already.
Sorry. The facts don't support your opinions.

Where are you getting your completely fictional numbers?
Yes, the game did do well in the financial department, and it's sure to keep stable as time goes on. However, that in no way negates any of our opinions, complaints, concerns, or suggestions. For a (seemingly) large amount of people to cancel their subs only a few months after the release of an MMORPG, which should be designed to keep said players playing for at least a year or two as a reasonable minimum, the game likely will not keep doing so well.
FFXIV: ARR's success was largely due to the failure of the original. That, plus the hype behind it and general hope that SE fans have had for years now made the sales as high as they were.
I'm grateful for that. I love SE and I do love this game. However, I cannot deny that this game is lacking a terrible amount of immersion it needs to keep people playing. Especially when it comes to combat.
The problem with this and everyone's opinion is the key word "seemingly". None of you have any kind of data to back up these claims. I don't know how your servers are doing but Excalibur is still jam packed with players. What are you all basing this assumption on?

Yeah, that is the essence of it. I just find it funny to see people accusing others of refusing to intelligently debate, only to turn around and make wild random assumptions about the game based on little to no information. When 1.0 came out it was so poorly received that it, technically speaking, went straight to free-to-play for a long time until the ship could be righted. If this game was doing as poorly as everyone claims, they would have already made that decision.
From what I've heard, most MMOs start off well like this, the first few months being massive profits, then just bleeding subs till they're forced to go Free to Play.
It's bad enough almost all of the zones besides Towns and Mor Dhona are empty, and talks from every LS, and FC of mine include people quitting, these are people who really enjoyed the game, it even became a popular topic in shout chats and random duty finders.
I largely ignored it till I cancelled my sub about a week or two ago, I noticed I wasn't enjoying doing monotonous grinding for things such as mounts or barding, and the combat certainly didn;t interest me.
It's safe to assume that a rather large amount of the playerbase have cancelled their subs (a sixteenth of 2 million is still a lot of people; also, don't take these numbers too seriously, it's just a random example). There have been countless threads from people saying that they've quit and why they're no longer playing. Some more articulate than others, of course. Now, since not every single person playing the game will be vocal on the forums, you can expect each of those threads to be representing many other people who share the same opinion. The same goes for literally all the threads that have ever been posted on any forum ever. So, that is what I'm basing my assumption on.
Of course there's still a lot of people online. That's why it can still be touted as having been successful. However, can you say that all those people you see are people that have been there since launch? How many more people do you think there would be if people hadn't cancelled their subs? I was in an FC for a while when I played on Diabolos. Out of 100 or so people, only 6 of us were ever active. This game is not as engaging as it could be.
When someone like me, who was extremely excited for this game foe years, loved everything about it when I finally got my hands on it, rarely ever put down the controller for weeks, gets bored of it not even 6 months after playing, it's absolutely fair to be concerned about the future of the game. I still have tons of stuff to complete, even. I just don't feel compelled to do so.
You can keep on defending this game and denying it's flaws through your blinded fanaticism as I once did. Or, you can take a step back and begin looking at things from different perspectives.
I'll be back later. Some things I need to take care of.
Even my FC leader who passionately defends the game broke down and said the only reason he plays is because of us
wrong...lets take swtor for example....
swtor failed due to a lacked of management on BW/EA part
a very poor engine that was really broken and incomplete. even the devs of the hero engine told BW that it wasnt ready.
devs ego getting in the way of community wants/needs
broken ilum pvp events
and im sure there more things i forgotten.
also swtor bombed around 3rd or 4th month, losing almost most all it players and would have died completely if not for the f2p /sub model...we are in our 6th month and SE will be opening up NEW servers for the chinese. not to mention the ps4 release.
this game is literally in no danger of failing at this point...like at all
If you are playing a MMO to meet new people or socialise with friends on stale content, I think you should get up from your chair and get out of the house more. Or just move on to another MMO with the friends in your static.
Many people don't log on to see scenery in-game. They log on for challenges in current and subsequent added content, or experience new encounters with friends/static. When there is none, it is hard to find a reason to log on. This game is still young in MMO standards, so there are certainly a substantial amount of people, myself included who are still subbed due to be being fortunate enough to find a great static group to do coil/hang out with, waiting to see what's next. With everyone is 50 now unlike launch period, plus already having a static group/bunch of friends to Immediately Start raid/engage new content with, After 2.2, and they still take their time releasing content like now, they will certainly bleed subs, like in Swtor.
Then you will start seeing people complaining about dead servers and asking for consolidation/free transfers. Your current perception of whether the game is still going strong or rapidly "going downhill" is based a lot on the server you play on. http://xivsoul.com/ if by any means is a good estimate, clearly shows quite a few servers lacking in population compared to the top half.
Also, I hope you are not going to further suggest that people stand in Ul'Dah with their allagan weapon "socialising".

"You seem to base your game purely on your own and your static's progress. I can't fathom why you would play any multiplayer game that way."
Yes because that's the way the game is designed, which you can tell by what is being released as content updates. New primals/coil/CT raid to progress together as a GROUP in a multiplayer environment. If you consider camping together with friends or trying to meet new people during the The "events" FATEs like brick/shannon/lighting as socialising, then perhaps back to the 1st line in my post.
