New record today, [edit-18!!] blacklisted (so far)! And the rest of the shout chat was people being annoyed by the spam.
Actually, on Levi, I haven't had much of a problem with gil shouters in towns. I think the shouters were actually dealt with (popped into Limsa today and not a single shout). However, i am noticing an increase in /tells from gil spammers. Yesterday, I blisted 8 tellers. Today, a whopping 15 different names that /tell their spams to me. I don't know how random keyboard smashed names keep finding me, but it needs to stop.
Today I blacklisted some spammers, added on to my already 105 list... only to have them show up again later on! Verified that yes there were indeed added on my blacklist. What voodoo is this??
If you do a player search and not enter a specific name, it will pull a list of 200 names. The default selection is World but you can specify by location as well. The search gives general information about what the player is doing (watching a cutscene, in a battle etc) as well as level, class and current group affiliation. Very informative really.
Me leaving the Inn every time I log into the game....fun!
Hire some more GMs! Here, let me apply.

-Has proven in the past to be capable of blacklisting upwards of 19 RMT in a single day!
-Actually tries to help the community vent their frustrations and search for solutions!
-Capable of doing the exact opposite of nothing!

today has been the worst day since long , had to block 20 spammers :( they ruining this game , and encouraging me to cancel my subscription ...
I must be made of a different mold than you guys. While i find it annoying, I take measures of my own to counter it. I have turned off shout chat (not ideal but temporary until they can get things under control) and just blist the ones that send me /tell and report them at the same time. I dont spend much time near the highly populated areas anyway so I dont get much of this.
I've been living with the internet and tv for long enough to ignore random commercials. Its an Issue, yes, but I'm pretty sure SE is aware of this by now. I know they have their hands full with server stability, New content coming, a PS4 Beta they are working on and so on. I know they are taking steps to counter this because I can see the complexity of RMT gibberish becoming more and more desperate. i have confidence SE will take care of it in due time.
Until its fixed I will continue to have fun and enjoy the game in spite of the RMT'ers while doing my part to assist in whatever way I can. I know getting upset about it helps nothing and leaves me in a foul mood in the end. No point in letting them ruin my day, I do that then they win.
Nice cherry-picking of my post. Let me finish that sentence for you.
I too understand the value of shout chat and this is not a solution I would prefer to use but in the current environment, the cost outweighs the gain. Its also a personal choice and I'm not saying that its something everyone should do. While it is quite annoying right now I also know that it wont last for the life of the game. In time, it will become much less and I'll once again reopen my shout channel. But thank you for pointing out value of shout channels.Quote:

Last night was the worst I have ever seen it, and that's saying a lot. Apparently SE sees a legitimate need for sending 350-character shouts every 0.75 seconds for hours if not days on end, otherwise they would implement some blanket throttle to stop the practice--no filtering of contents necessary.
Remember how people are requesting a simple right-click blacklist function? The chat window text was moving so fast that it couldn't respond to clicks. Apparently this is "functioning as intended."
use this maro
/blist <r>
wont help much with the shouts thou
Right-click-block won't mean a damn thing when 1. you can't click in time, and 2. your blacklist is full.
So many players have requested this ability, yet we shouldn't NEED to do this. It should be IMPOSSIBLE to shout several times per second. There are(seemingly) ZERO filters at the moment.
Sounds crazy, but the longer this goes on the more I think SE are the ones behind the spam. I'm no conspiracy theorist but they could make SO much extra. All they gotta do is adjust the gil sinks; more failed melds and more failed synthesis to keep the economy in balance.
140+ people on my Blist. :-\ Now I'm getting 4-8 spam /tells per day. -_- In addition to the spammers in major cities.
I'm standing by Wymond in Ul'dah and its just an endless stream of Qwerbhfa Thsdjbnaf type named humes popping on for one second and popping back off. I don't know what that means but its fascinating to watch.
This is a joke, I have blacklisted a certain RMT seller on Diabolos who stands next to the market board in Gridania. Later the same day I get rmt msg from the same person in chat!!
I try to blacklist them again and I get a message they are already on my blacklist but I am still getting messages in chat from them!
I have had to delete them from blacklist and re-add to blacklist over 5 times today due to the fact that this RMT seller is able to bypass the blacklist.
SE need to sort this crap already!
I have to agree that this is way out of hand.
I'd suggest posting GMs in all the cities just to work on this until a more permanent solution can be found. Reporting these spammers would be a full time job with no time left to play the game.
It has gotten so annoying that I've disabled shouts in my chat log which kind of gimps my overall game experience.
SE, please help us!
What do you think about the idea of overall blacklist for multiple users.
Heres the Problem people cannot understand
RMT is a Business , its a Company of many people.....
Farmers , Advertisers , and Customer Support/Sales Reps
1) They are now paying for Subs because they are making the money to do so......
So how do we end this ?
Right Click Name > Add To Block list
2) SE Suspending players who buy gil and set their characters back to 0..........
^ But then we will just see more "I am innocent" thread spams
Lazy Players fund the RMTs and keep them running , like Drug Dealers , they would be out of business if no one bought their products ........
Unlike Drug Dealers , its is easier to see who is buying Gil ........So Ban them , takeaway everything earned Legit and not and be done with with.....
Make the Punishment look more horrible than the short term fun and people will eventually refuse to buy the garbage ......
There is no excuse for Cheating period .If you need to cheat , then you should not be playing in the first place ..........
I fully support a MMO company with Extreme Punishments for those who cheat .........100%
Thanks to RMT spam, I've been forced to turn off Shout, Yell, and even Tell from my logs. I'm only able to freely chat within my FC which really doesn't bother me in general, but why should it even come to this? Furthermore I've been wondering...
From what I'm given to understand, the reasons vendoring items results in illogically low amounts of gil to curb gilfarming and selling.....yet, SE's apparently handed local chat in major cities over to them.
No need to turn off tell. lol
/blist add <r>
Type that in after each tell and you're fine.
At all, the hardvare/software belongs to Square-Enix. And chats as their component. Since the developer / publisher is not entered into any agreements to commit RMT buisnes, this activity can be equated for thievery.
nakipelo...
If we cannot get a blist option by clicking on someones name in the chat channel, can we get a "copy name" option instead. if i can right click > copy name. then that makes it easier to add names to blist without hopefully adding your own friends name.
I'm noticing a real slowdown on cancelled accounts inside my blist list. Is SE attacking rmt server by server? At my current rate of blisting I'm getting close to half capacity.
Apperently RMT /tell spam is the new shout.
Just want to say SE really did seem to fix the shout spam for the most part.
Just keep at it and figure out how to stall /tell spam now please. In 3 hours today I have had to blacklist 9 RMT ><;;
Thank you for keeping on them, and don't let up!
Make that 11, another two since I posted this a few minutes ago,
Their operating costs need to be increased and their work as well. This way the business become less profitable per unit of time. So a number of measures need to be taken. There's not a single action by SE that would make them go away.
Characters abilities to communicate should be progressively earned. This way each newly created char would need sometime before it can start pestering.
E.g.
At level 5 character can use /say, can add friends and can send tells to friends
Char level 10 can use /yell
Char level 15 can use /shout and can send tells to anyone.
Limitations are removed when the payment for one month of subscription has been verified.
With this implementation, RMTs would need some time or some form of verified payment before they start spamming instead of using a simple key generator and then being able to create a plethora of accounts at no cost.
If you're referring to the same person sending you an RMT advertisement /tell every second, I've only encountered that once a couple weeks ago. Thankfully hasn't become a norm... yet. I'd imagine that some "companies" realize how overly annoying that is to people, even potential customers.
I have resorted to making a custom chat tab that has /shout and /yell turned off to avoid the rmt spam. It's a shame I had to resort to that as I didn't mind doing melds for people. It's also a shame I have to make a macro to blist rmt tells.
Sure, rmt exists in many mmos but this is the worst I've seen it.
Why does no one who complains ever pay attention to the Letters from the Producers and Dev posts? o.O Right click to ignore is coming in 2.1, possibly sooner.
As for the topic of RMT... You people need to realize that RMT creates and/or utilizes new and different characters many times an hour, and sometimes change by the minute. There's no way they can be banned instantly like some people want. One tactic they use is to make a shout or huge batch of tells and then immediately log off so you can't /blist them. Then they'll log in a little later and do it all again.
And many of you aren't even helping the situation because all you do is blist. Take a moment to actually report the person and SE will be able to target them that much faster.
I think once the US dollar collapses we could probably all go in on a few drone strikes together dirt cheap.
after 150 reports of people not gone, I gotta say that reporting is worthless. my blacklist is capped and we've been complaining about this sinced week one. why does it take over 3 months to fix the way that this all works? if is a staffing issue, why have 2 months passed without enough new people being hired? if its a reporting issue, why have they not made it easier to report and reports load faster in the last 2 months? I have to conclude by the lack of any real improvement that they just don't care as long as the subscription gets paid. if you see the past letters/live letters the only thing they plan to do is add a menu option that doesn't help people with already full blacklists. nothing about improving staffing, nothing about improving reporting method. nothing about actually doing something with the reports.
157/200 on blacklist, averaging 4 new additions per day from rmt tells.
