Lol, they haven't figured anything out regarding housing in the 10+ years we've had it, they aint about to figure it out now.
I'm sure wow devs read these threads... They are so going to burn this games housing system to ash.
Auto demolition was requested by players but making the timer 45 days and destroying all furnishings after 35 days was a choice made by the developers. That's the predatory part. Nobody would be mad if demolition took place after 6 months and only targeted players who skip entire patches or expansions.
I think people need to stop being greedy and Id even advocate for an actual 5 dollar housing tax monthly to cover dev expenses.
I think we need more furniture in mogstation too
WoW Housing at the moment: Three pieces of concept art with a novel of text about their plans.
The only smart thing to do with promises like Blizzard's is to temper your expectations and when the player can actually interact with it and gives a feature-complete feeling to the player.
Source: Garrisons. That was player housing in a WoW-style manner. It literally costed a raid tier, there is a tombstone to remind players of that. The devs promised players they would have agency on where they could put their Garrison. Devs promised players would have far greater control over how to customize the appearance and buildings of the garrison. And those broken promises from WoD came from Blizzard's words and concept art about such content. Such promises are not factoring in the gameplay features that were meant to be side-additions to the main point of having a garrison yet were cut.
You might view this as me raining on your parade, I prefer to see it as having realistic expectations that aren't founded off of simple promises.
You're not the only one who made this observation. The GG guys (who are former WoW hardcore players who just finished their first XIV Savage tier at current content a few weeks ago) made this same comment. "Don't trust the WoW devs." Their housing is promising the stars, and you hope maybe you get the moon, but you're just as likely to get green cheese.
Will it be as much as it gets hyped to be ? Who knows how much it might live up to the hype.
Will it be better than FFXIV ? Yes, you really cannot get a worse housing system than this game.
It honestly baffles me that Runescape of all games has a personal house for every player where the only costs are for moving it or building new rooms/furniture. It's the one thing I retroactively like more about it.
It cant beat Ffxiv housing. Its designed perfectly with harmony and ps5 in mind. The core of the core. Too much design is a thing. It is simple so devs can focus on new expansion right away. Too much QoL is too much for some people. They get overwhelmed and anxious when they have to learn. Its a good system. I think we should do our best to support SE in this.
Remember to smile
Which is a good statement to have with Blizzard. There is just numerous stuff over the years from Blizzard that warrant such caution. If Blizzard somehow manages to nerf the fun out of housing, I can't say I would be shocked. As they have a history of not just overpromising, but also taking away whatever makes that piece of content fun. Even if it's not gamebreaking and the entire playerbase can enjoy it.
That's just it, all we have is concept art and their plan. We don't KNOW. It could blow FFXIV out of the water! It could be on par with XIV's apartments, which are 1. unlimited and 2. don't expire. It could be on par with XI's mog houses, which had an item limit of 20 items.
Thou doth project too much. Especially if me or others advocating for having tempered expectations is considered 'radical'.
As your only evidence to refute my claims at the moment, is literally text-based promises and three pieces concept art. If that is all it took, boy do I have a kickstarter scam to sell you.
Yep, former long-term WoW player here and first thing I thought of was the dance studio which was promised years ago and never made it in. Plus the nerf to fun - like a favorite toy I had that you could change into any race for an hour and the cooldown was an hour or two, so you could always be something else in perpetuity. Then they made it a 24-hour cooldown. :( They did that to quite a few toys, which had no combat application whatsoever, they were just fun.
I do hope that WoW housing makes it in and it's everything they claim for it. FFXIV needs a kick in the pants in that regard. But I wouldn't be surprised if they end up dropping some features.
Yeah, or in Legion where they hotfixed nerfed a couple toys because players, like myself, were using those as improvised flying because flying wouldn't come until 10 months later in that expansion. Among other examples.
If their new attempt at housing is actually good, I will be pleasantly surprised. Until then, all we can do is wait until at least closed or open beta for the next expansion to see what they done with it.
Ngl still think they should nuke Island Sanctuary and use that server space for instance housing.
Starting to feel my age. A billion years ago, I remember, as a player from day 1 when FFxi laughed its butt off at WoW. Now, 20 years later, we come full circle where it’s doing things correctly whereas 14 is sinking into the sand. Tired. Just give me a rocking chair by the fire and some coffee. Lawd help us all.
To be fair, FFXIV housing kinda sucks. I have a house which I don't want to get rid of since I spent around 50 mil gil to purchase and furnish it, but the decorating system is horrendous, and there's not really anything to do with it after it's decorated. You may think your friends can hang out there, but normally they don't so it's practically worthless. FC housing has more functionality to at least make it worth getting one.
I doubt that housing in WoW will have the same variety and creativity when it comes to designing homes.
Yeah housing serves no "purpose" beside allowing you to decorate your home how ever you like it, it is just a minigame you do for fun.Quote:

Here are some things that i would like to see changed:
-Account wide housing, you can only own one house per account, but all characters share that house.
-Remove all but one house from people who already own multiple on one acccount/character.
-Access to airships and submarines, a public harbor where you can level your private submarine & airship. (maybe just one instead of four per character)
-Rework the Decoration menu as some plug ins have it, allowing to move furniture up and down and via coordinates, no more tedious glitching!
-Allowing to save and load house layouts like Makeplace has it.
-Increase item limit by 50% in all houses.
That would do nothing because there isn't any "new" space. IS just runs on the same servers and uses the same capacity as the house interior, which is why you couldn't even enter your house for some hours when Island Sanctuary released.
This is the big one.
I don't care if you bought your 30 housing plots legitimately when that was still possible, it was clearly a gross design oversight and nobody "needs" to have an entire ward to themselves, that's just ridiculous.
Make them choose one plot out of all they own, give them back the gil they paid for the rest and clear those plots.
Is it going to solve the issue? Of course not, but just letting people get away with that kind of nonsense is really not inspiring confidence.
Okay, lets say they did remove the houses from multiowners, you admitted yourself it wont solve the issue which at least is good.
My question is, who are you going to come after next after multiowners since it will fix absolutely nothing ? Or are you just happy removing the houses multiowners worked for (more than any person that is not a multiowner, you can believe it or not, doesnt matter, they did work on it far more than people with a single house)
I ask that question because from what I'm reading, you are more than happy with their houses getting destroyed knowing very well it wont fix anything, you dont want a solution or for people to have houses, you just want SE to take the houses multiowners worked on. That's called envy and jealousy.
First of all, the current rules of the game allows a player to only buy one house, this would just enforce the current rules, leave them one of their largest houses and demolish the rest.
I have a large house myself and it took me very long to get one, yes it wouldn't fix what you guys see as a "Problem", but the housing areas are very limited and if one players has 20 houses they can probably can't even use it is just unfair for the other 19 people who cant have one.
Do you really think someone can decorate 20 homes and does that regularly? most people who have a house decorate them once and then never again.
There is already a big housing crisis in real life because billionaires own and speculate on real estate, we don't need that in a video game too.
Instanced housing could easily be implemented by using the apartment system and allowing players to increase the interior size, i am not against that.
What is your problem exactly? i already made a suggestion.
It is obvious that in this current structure not every player can own a house in an open area, and that is fine.
Opening blocked slot for new players is a good idea regardless if it solves what ever your problem is or not.
i really don't like this mindset of "this wont fix the(my) issue, so lets do nothing"
Instead of beign envious, you could try and make friends in the game and share a house with someone
I suspect (not wanting to speak on your behalf incorrectly, Clockworks - so apologies if I'm wrong here) her point is that after the multi-owner problem gets "fixed," there'll just be "the next problem."
So, for example - everyone who owns more than one house suddenly loses them. What hard-line "take things away from the players who already have them" suggestion comes next?
My suspicion would be "Why do individuals get Large and Medium houses? We should strip them from individuals who bought them, because they clearly should be in the hands of Free Companies!"
So the question becomes - is that also okay? At what point does the line for "it's okay to remove someone's efforts, time, and money" get drawn?
A private plot where you have no neighbors, yes.Quote:
private housing wards
I honestly wonder how many people will lose interest in housing if they implemented instanced housing and got rid of wards.
People who enjoy decorating and spending time in their houses will most likely continue doing so. While those who have a plot for the sake of having it (A status symbol) might not even bother with it.
Either way, personal housing shouldn't be limited. However, owning multiple FCs shouldn't be possible due to Gil farm that is possible with it.
I came from WoW, and, aside from limited ways to get decent gear, the worst thing is the number of annoying sounds. My favorite mount has a wingflap noise that I can't stand so I used to keep it disabled.
You could find the ingame sound files and change them, or just replace with blank ones to silence specific things. There were addons that would mute thousands of these sounds.
Then, they changed the sound structure, where you have to go through an extremely complicated addon process that I haven't been able to make it work when I go back to try the game to try it in PTR, and then I quit trying and come back to FFXIV. I may try again once the housing thing comes online. (If I can mute the sounds.)
Randomly empty out your guild bank, lose currency and items, reset reputations, but at least you won't lose your house. (until you do)
No housing system can make me play WOW and their ugly-ass characters.
I'd rather be a homeless hobo in Limsa
heh, that reminds me of so many things in the past.
Annoying sound effects that drove me mad.
One time when they changed the warrior berserk stance icon from a red skull to this ugly dwarf face and also added this foaming orc roar sound every time you used it drove me mad on my Night elf.
Or at the beginning when they introduced worgen the idle animation always had a very loud and annoying sniffing sound(like your character is sniffing the scents, like a dog).no idea if that is removed by now
Anyway, i can't imagine that housing in WoW will eb anywhere near a good as in FFXIV when it comes to decoration.
here are a few examples of recent designs by the housing communits:
