Not many of us here want a cinematic. We wanted vers 1.0 to 2.0 gameplay comparison. People here for what-ever reason solely believe that if and when they release a trailer it will only be CGI.

Um...Roadmap to 2.0 on the front page with pictures. Some of those are ACTUAL images. While there is a lot of drawn images there...if you look at the small cells some of them have actual new area footage. If it wasn't real it was clearly marked concept. But there's some solid footage in there if you zoom in closely you might see some interesting things.
What I dont get is their reasoning. "because they dont want to trickle but release a bunch"..... and yet we're getting a teaser site. Seems.... ummm contradictory?
My second biggest issue, is because they will never have another chance like E3 before 2.0's release to advertise like this again. It impacts so much of the gaming community.
if there was any truth about this then SE deserves to go bankrupt. Let's spit on millions of potential new players so we don't spoil a bad story to existing and small player base who don't give a rat's ass about the current story and are only playing the game because of a 2.0 promise....

The only thing we've learned is that the CGI trailer won't be there, not that there'll be nothing at all. And, like I said; it's only E3.
This is actually a really, really, good and interesting point. I'm not saying this is how it went but what if it's as simple as:
"Ok! E3 is coming up! Trailer ready?"
"Wait...we put in a lot of stuff involving what Dalamud causes."
"Oh no...all that 7th Umbral stuff?"
"Yea, the trailer is pretty revealing."
"Ok, ok. We'll have to hold off on releasing the trailer until the events are caught up."
idk. i think SE shot themselevs in the foot either way. Cause alot of people wouldve been pissed with the trailer if the trailer was only the differences between when the game first came out, till now. or if it didnt show any ingame trailers. or imo if they showed any story of dalamud hitting cause only we are suppose to see that. but by backing out shots themselves cause it makes ppl think they had nothing thus diminishing morale even further.
Media loves taking 1 "potential" bad thing and writes a whole article on how its bad "to them". I don't find that a good source. when they didn't give the whole letter stating THERE WILL BE SOME SORT OF 2.0 COVERAGE THERE..
Until they ninja edit this, or a mod comes here to tell us otherwise, there will be E3 coverage on 2.0.. We are just NOT having the FFXIV Trailer!Quote:
Well, the public release of version 2.0 is set to kickoff with this year’s E3 in Los Angeles.
/sigh
-1000 f**ks to give.
Also Biggs summed up my feelings perfectly. I don't feel angry or anything by this point just extremely disappointed.
Maybe Square Enix Board decided to institute damage control for the SE name as a whole, being that FFXIV upon release was the laughing stock of the gaming community, and that subsquent releases such as FFXIII-2 were subpar sales. I don't know, I'm just racking my brains out trying to figure out why they would make this decision.
Hopefully, maybe, they will rescind their decision after they read the community outcry? I mean look at the debacle of the whole server merge and how that changed.
I'm not playing because of the promise of 2.0.
I've genuinely enjoyed the game since launch. I don't feel strung along. Yes there are moments when I feel bored...I love the story content...
People should play an RPG if they don't like reading. Did you all read the wall of texts from Erik in Ul'dah? It's VERY VERY good stuff. I wish there was more of that but presented beyond just standing and talking to one NPC for an hour.
WHO said Dalamud was hitting? You think it's an asteroid...You assume that only cause it's getting larger. I don't think it's an asteroid at all. It's an EGG...it will hatch...and with it the rebirth of the land...
First off let me say I'm not "White Knighting" and have my fair share of skepticism about the game (and FF as a whole lately).
However, I think SE made the right move. There are a ton of "better" games that are going to be revealed at E3, who is actually going to take a few minutes out of their day to go and see XIV when they know it flopped so hard before?
It's definitely the right move to "flood" at a time closer to release so people get that "omg wtf is all this, MUST HAVE NOW" feeling. Not to mention most of this generation is in the "gimme gimme" mindset. Us veteran FF fans are used to the trickle of information every few months (I for one remember waiting every day for the next issue of Official US Playstation Magazine for information on FFIX and then later for FFX); new players are not going to stand for that. They're going to want ALL of their questions answered and see proof that the game has come a long way. No better way to do that than show everything right up front (minus content spoilers like missions) and get a bunch of people to try it right out of the gate.
Think about it, they must be pretty proud of the game they created if they think they can pull off such a stunt.
But what it boils down to: we'll wait and see. I for one hope that this is exactly what they need to do to make XIV a success.
So you're gonna whine about SE learning from the mistakes it made with 1.0? They set a release date in stone when the game wasn't ready, and it really bit them in the ass. Obviously they're not going to show a trailer until they can insure that the final product can live up to it.
funny how they said most of 2.0's was finshed months ago and now if they wont show anything i dont know what there thinking. they sure have bad management if they couldn't get it ready by now.
Its different in 2010 E3 because it wasn't known as a "failed MMORPG game", back then they had no worries of people having doubts. Here, in 2012 They are up against a wall.. they need to plan this out delicately or else FFXIV can be in real trouble. So I don;t "blame" SE for taking this route.
I just hope we can get some sort of dev response about what exactly will be shown at E3, so we can at least put a lid on that part of the discussion.
hopefully there kicking ass to make the release " bug free "
If all they have to show are the PDFs that have been available for months now, I will /facepalm so hard that I will knock myself into an alternate dimension where the FFXIV 1.0 launch wasn't a complete failure.
SE begins casting Failga on E3...
I have been full for any static stuff like PDFs.
This is playing game not study session.
wanna see more like dynamic.
It's a mess and a bad situation to me. I can see both sides as to why they should and shouldn't have done this. Especially after reading everyone's thoughts on this and how they feel. I do think it was a bad decision to make at the last minute to tell everyone about. Because I don't believe they made this decision here at the last moment. I know this just had to have been discussed and talked about and why they made their decision. However, once this started being planned it would have been better to say why they did this much more in advance then just "we decided to keep it under wraps."
They do say that "In order to make version 2.0 a success, we need to appeal to not only our current players (naturally!), but also as many new players as possible, including PS3 owners." and not showing your trailer is a good way to not appeal to new players. But you know, things could backfire. People could see the trailer and then go rush to buy the game cause it's already out and then be like "Wtf is this? This isn't what I seen at e3. You're liars." and numerous other reasons as well, but regardless they lied to the community about this. For whatever reason they decided against it is fine, but waiting until 1 week before e3 to tell us I think was a bad decision.
One of the player polls had the "promise of 2.0" which scored the top. This tells you how much people are looking forward to what 2.0 will be. Really people should start expecting "New trailer of 2.0 coming in 2.0."
All this bitching... am I the only one who read that "not a trickle but a flood" line? We're not getting a trailer. We're getting more.
But we get more in August, pretty much a month before release, bit pointless and late.
Gives other games more chance to steal players like TERA and D3 is doing and next it will be GW2/Secret World. So wonder who these "new people" are lol who aint already pumped for other games that havent got a insanely bad reputation and are publically spreading infos (even betas).
I'm just waiting for the 180 the complainers will pull to be honest.
Ah Tera, that one MMO with so much potential but only had a battle system that set itself apart while everything else was nothing new and too westernized which killed off a bunch of it's core players and even had the head of BHS come out to state the game is doing really poorly, even less than they assumed it would drop.
In the real world, people play multiple MMOs at a time if it interests them.Quote:

No, we get the trailer in August. Yoshida is still going to E3 and I seriously doubt he'll be there just to shake hands. The trailer's already done, he said. So obviously it's not them not meeting a deadline. Moreover, they're still mounting the site for release right after E3.
