Has anyone quit healing?

When you have a 7/8 static for weekly Eden Savage clears and it takes an hour+ sometimes for each floor to find 1 healer I'd say that healing is at an all time low it's been like this since the start of the raid tier its taking so long to find just 1.

Yep. Very little interest in healing now. Dpsing was what kept me interested during dungeons. Now I semi afk most runs just topping up the tank as needed. They want healers to only heal. Ok. So be it. I dont know if savage content will test healers skills but no other content is interesting as healer now.
Saying that I have alternated warrior/scholar main since the start and this exp I took Gunbreaker as my first class. Scholar is not fun anymore. So why play something thats not fun. It's a chore to play and I've borderline quit the game now. At least until there's more MSQ to play. Apart from a brilliant MSQ and amazing soundtrack this exp has little else going for it long term wise.

I played for the MSQ and I went with my scholar as I hope she will eventually go back to normal; I only play her for hubby/friends otherwise I haven't been on FF much at all anymore. I used to be happy to derp around and run instances randomly, now I'm pretty hesitant. It's just not as fun or engaging anymore. I miss all the cool skills scholar had, the feel of it- I'm not talking about some OP stuff, just I really loved having bane, and miasma was fun too to weave in, and iforgetthataoedpswe dropped anyways that was nifty too to have that button to click in between heals.

now i'm either half asleep or spastic healing with a gibbled fairy.

May as well have quit the game entirely over these changes. The only thing that makes quitting hard is all the friends I have made over the last 5 years playing this game. I loved playing healer but now when I play it I feel like a servant. Goodday master are you in the mood for mechanics today if not it doesn't matter because I'm a pure healer now.

So I stopped playing for a few weeks, then came back to play with DPS/Tank classes. And goodness, it's another world.

I feel a lot better playing RDM and occasionally using Vercure to help the healer, it's so much better than spamming Stone XVIII and using one of my dozen OGCDs when the tank stubs his toe.

Maybe 5.1 will make me want to play again, but I don't really have my hopes up after yet another LL with nothing for us.

This thread has been going strong for almost two months now, which is not surprising given the state of healing. We're definitely smaller community than we were, to the point it's affected the overall community. I feel like tanks and dps even talk about healers differently now than they used to. We're all walking around on eggshells worried that our healer friends are on the verge of quitting.

The only thing I haven't quit is level 80 healing. I can put up with it a few hours a week with people I like. The boring sameness of healing is a worthwhile personal sacrifice to make for my group, so that no one waits for that pug healer to choose us out of the 15 other groups that are "7/8 static needs healer tonight."

Healing is a sacrifice I make so my friends can play.

I feel you.
I sort of "had to" switch to a dps because we had too many tanks and healers in our incomplete static and PF etc. was full of more tanks and healers looking for statics so everyone who was in the mood to do so brought a dps to 80 to make recruiting easier. So I leveled RDM on a hunch (the backflips got me.. and the job quest npc) and after running countless leveling dungeons, experts to cap tomes, doing some extremes and E1S and E2S practice I don't really want to go back.
There is just not enough to keep myself busy when everything is mostly under control. The only time the fun starts is when shit hits the fan and breaks the Glare/ Broil/ Malefic routine. But regular boss fights in a half-decent party always feel like a slog because nothing is happening.

This is, imo, the biggest problem with the current healers and how fights work.

Our kits are only fun when shit hits the fan, and I felt amazing in extreme situations where I needed to rez 6 people while keeping the tank and myself alive.
But this only ever happens when running extremely recent content, when not everyone knows the fight well and overall gear level is the bare minimum.

In extreme/savage content, you aren't supposed to let shit hit the fan, because that means there won't be enough dps and the fight will end in a wipe anyways. Or you'll be killed by a mechanic that required everyone to be alive.
In everything else, two healers are way more than enough, to the point some content will litterally not even require a single healing spell.

Our healing kits make it look like we're supposed to keep entire armies alive against the very hordes of hell, but everything is so easy we barely need to use anything else than CDs.


A PLD friend of mine who recently cleared E4S told me that we need tons of healing in this fight. Cool!
Imagine telling a new healer that they need to go through four huge storylines back to back and then spend weeks on the first three raids before finally seeing a fight that "justifies" having 75% of your kit being copies of the same heals.

I dunno if I’ve quit healing but at the same time I really don’t have a drive to level a healer.

Funny part is, E4S doesn't even require THAT much healing outside of the very last phase. Every phase before that you're spamming DPS abilities 90% of the time, it isn't until the last 3 minutes of the fight where suddenly heals get bonkers. It's only healing that gets rough though, they make the actual mechanics of phase 3 really easy to compensate for healers having to heal. Honestly, a pretty standard fight up until that point.

I agree---those moments are the whole reason I play this game. I mean, besides glamours and housing.

But by the same token, I don't think just tuning damage higher would do any good. It would end up like WoW, where your healing toolkit is tuned to be "just enough"---so it's a little less mind-numbing in some ways, but ultimately you still have no opportunity to pull off anything impressive.

What I want is for damage to be slightly higher, but much more unpredictable. I want the boss to randomly do stuff that just screws everything up.

We badly need some sort of randomized content. I'd love a randomized daily roulette where we run a dungeon with silly modifiers, or fight a boss with random patterns or timing.

I want to say "oh shit" to an unexpected mechanic, but sadly this never happens after the first time. Everything is scripted, and once you know the script it always goes the same. You know when to attack, when to heal, when to move. And while you can always optimise your rotation as a dps or tank, there's only so much you can optimise as a healer.

Randomization is good... to a point. The one big issue with going hard on RNG is that you can end up in situations where one group gets super fortunate and has the easiest patterns, while another gets reamed up the backside with the worst. That is really bad design, especially when you think about World Firsts.

I'm somewhat reminded of the random floor buffs/debuffs of PotD, so perhaps something like that? Having to go through a scripted boss battle with a random crippling buff that you cannot remove might add a bit of pressure.

Of course, I'm not talking about "Shinryu EX suddenly appears in the dungeon" kind of stuff.
But we could get weekly global modifiers, changed AIs, bosses with swapped moves, different timings, anything to shake off the monotony.
Right now the only random factor is how much damage your party takes, and as long as they're not suicidal it's always manageable.

One of the reasons I don't heal anymore is that every dungeon and every boss feels the same, there's no surprise.

if u want unpredictable ... get in your team a crappy player and try to keep him alive.

you'll get some unpredictable healings !


and random also means, as said, that some may be luckier than others. and people will start complaining.

or u can add health % mechanics on top of time based. wich may be more random due to them sometimes overlapping. also the down side is sometimes u then don't want to dps too much so mechanics don't overlap ..

rarely perfect fights. having to stop dps too often is boring. while doing it sometimes can be interesting strat wise.



last, random also means u can clear easily one week while feelign u need to relearn the fight the next week and spending a night clearing again. just coz of being not lucky. or the randomness could be too small to matter really.

to me it starts already with tank healing, outside of bursters, there's not much doing, and even then tanks mitigate most of damage. I too rarely need to heal the tank

I'm a fairly new player (playing since late July) and I'm loving my WHM and I'm very happy playing a healer

And that’s fine. But there may come a time when you’ve hit the level cap and want to start eking the most out of WHM. You’ll look at guides and learn fights inside and out. Then you’ll realise:

You’ll be confused and look at older videos. ‘Whoa! 3 DoTs to upkeep? AND a damage stance to optimise too?’ Then compare it to the snore fest of Glare spam you have at 80 and be just as jaded as many of us here.

I was thinking wandering chimeras, but I like your idea too.

If you haven't already I can recommend checking out trying to reach the highest floor of PotD and HoH for some random dungeon exploring. Monsters can hit like trucks with lethal aoes and mechanics, random patrols, buffs, debuffs and you get a relaxing moment opening hoards inbetween floors. Things can go south real fast so tensions are high as tank's hp melt, you hug walls hoping mobs won't spot you, no longer know where that patrol is and curse as that Gold chest really was a mimic.

Takes a while to get there, but I still find it gratifying just getting to the end in both on both tank and healer.

But the problem is, the higher you get with your WHM (or any healer for that matter) the more powerful you become at handling incoming damage while the damage stays the same, relatively speaking. And the better you get at using all your tools, the more time you will spent pushing one button over and over.

Optimizing doesn't lead to more engagement, it only leads to more boredom.
Which is completely backwards.
That the only way to stay engaged and on your toes is by playing poorly yourself and hoping for bad players to eat aoes to break the Glare/ Malefic/ Broil routine is so wrong, I can't even find words for it.

I want to work for my numbers. BOTH numbers, healing and dps.

Yeah, I quit almost completely. I've been AST main and after rework I have no interest in playing AST again. Other healing jobs are just not fun for me so I mostly play dps or tank. And since Yoshi seem to be happy with the rework, I doubt I will touch healing until they come up with the new job.

I relate to this note, by note. When I opted to resub, I decided to stop pursuing healing altogether due to its baggage and resolved to become another DPS main. I gravitated to the jobs with the closest thing to support skills as I still wanted to be able to help others out. RDM had both a Cure and a Raise which seemed good enough. The idea of using Dualcast both offensively and supportively and chaining Raises did a lot to feed the need to feel 'heroic' and not at all the errand-boy who needed the team to justify existing that healing made me feel prior to returning.

And that is the interesting point about RDM and I am finding with DNC too, they're not even complicated jobs, but they are engaging and feel nice to play. They're examples of where SE can make jobs that are both fun to play and also, simple.

My friend is Levelling MCH after having taken WHM to 80 and through MSQ and other ShB content and she's finding content fun again.

It is night and day between playing healer and a DPS.

This resonates a whole lot with my impression that early Scholar was a "full" job that stood on it's own two feet, like DPS jobs described here, not something that was fitted into a Role. It had a large and varied skillset that some just happend to be restorative which made healing a natural fit. I'm reminded of an interview they said MCH got a redesign because it didn't feel fun anymore. I'd wish they'd have that same kind of enthusiasm for all the job's identity.

Healing in savage (e2s and above) is pretty frustrating since it’s very easy to get killed by a really stupid mechanic and if a healer dies it seems to be usually a wipe and then people just get annoyed - if you suffer a dps or tank death it can be recoverable. Also healer dps just feels weak and boring now so it just feels like lots of stress and no fun.

Also you can tell that people are gravitating away from healing since PF groups seem to be mostly waiting a long time for healers (in stormblood it was tanks) and often duty finder stuff is instant pop when playing healer.

Hmm... for the most part. I threw down my books for the gun again, and I feel much better for it. I'm only healing for friends now, or to help the poor saps on PF looking for a quick queue. I'm pretty jaded with Healing Jobs in XIV at the moment. Every non-healer thinks it's fine, but we're just the elderly supervisors who have been forced to take our seat in the corner and watch everyone else have fun, and I'm tired of it. I want fun, too.

I need to finish lvling my WAR for Tank queuing, but I'm finding ShB WAR pretty stale. I might switch my tank to GNB. Not too sure yet.

I'm mostly only doing it for tomes and queue times. Beyond that I have other more involving games to play.

Also affected me buying the next expansion until this is resolved. One expansion? Fine. Two expansions? Less fine. If they dare do 3 expansions well... I know of other games and devs with less contempt for a role.

the healing kit is not that bad actually (especially after the buffs),i feel like i still i can do as many thing as i want but the card system need too much attention that i literally "stop" using it when i need to do mecanics or important healing in savage,sure i lose in rdps but i rather do that then getting myself completely pissed off again by this job

i would have loved to try maining Sch but my co healer friend is already on it :/

I wouldn't stress too much about not being able to play SCH, besides having more oGCD healing spells, it doesn't play differently from WHM at this point.

Literally, AST was such a bad experience that I have just zero motivation to level-up WHM OR QUE for ruellettes as an AST. I'm just so burnt out of healing, atm....

It isn't so much contempt but fear. Unfortunately, the dev team seems both uninspired but entirely too afraid to provide healers anything complex, intense or even interesting. They adamantly refuse to increase outgoing damage enough to warrant how insanely powerful healers are. Hell, despite leveling the Stormblood scaling, they reduced the outgoing damage on tanks this tier. Which defeated the entire point. They don't want to make DPS engaging. All because there's this strange belief it would drive baby healers are from the role. Ironically, it's now driving everyone away from it.

They need to decide what healers are supposed to be. If they want healers to heal, then all content—even normal modes and dungeons—needs to hit hard enough to push healers. Additionally, make healing spells a bit more engaging. Lilies 2.0 is a step in the right direction in this scenario. On the other hand, embrace the hybrid nature of healers or take a third option and turn the whole role into "Support." Buffs, debuffs, CC and healing. Allow healers to essentially be the tactician of the battle. But until they get over the idea healers need to essentially be in perpetual "baby" mode. I doubt much changes...

Yeah I know that much. It just... begs the question, or questions rather.

Is the silence towards us worth it? That and what exactly ran through their minds at the time when they did what they did to 5.0 AST, deciding "oh this is fine" when we have skills like Celestial Opposition be absolute garbage (at least they fixed that, though the loss of the stun was confusing). Anyone could have looked at AST before Shadowbringers launched and tell each other something is wrong (WHM and SCH have their own issues but AST was what I mained before ShB launched). It's just difficult for me to convince myself that fear is what drove AST to have a page long list of buffs when savage launched.

Whatever the case is if they can't get their stuff straight then this could possibly be my last expansion. No sense in beating around the bush if the game is getting less enjoyable in the gameplay (story is great though). Which is why I've taken to a little bit of tanking in my spare time with how little I've been logging in (got to get gunbreaker its mounts somehow).

I would like to join content that's more lenient than a strict script and dancing step you have to take from the top again if one out of eight dancers make a misstep. Yet this continuation to push Healers towards a skillset that only feels rewarding if someone needs healing or ress all the time. Something like a boss that every minute straight up kills two dps in 4-mans and one of the healers and two dps in 8-mans. Maybe not as cruel as that, simply NPCs or objects that need to be actuely healed and ressed. So you will be forced to hardcast Ressurection while also dealing with the rest of the party needing healing and mechanics being thrown at you. Only places this happens is in 24-man and PotD, but not by design, someone will have to not be paying attention for going there as a healer to be interesting. And I'm not sure going me going around hoping people don't do mechanics is what SE had in mind.

Before 4.1 there was excited talk of that Shinryu Ex would have Healing checks, but then that was never brought up again. I would love for the act of straight up healing to be interesting, but right now there's little to heal, often long pauses between bosses actually doing damage and little to do when there is no healing by design. It just soured an otherwise great expansion for me where I enjoyed every bit of the sights, sounds and story and then had to actually do fights as a Scholar it stood out like a sore thumb.

It never stops being jarring how they seem to go about every Shadowbringers questions with breathless enthusiasm, yet never find a single sound for Healer gameplay. Are they just dependent on journalists bringing issues up with their own game. Keep telling myself not to assume, but it's hard when they won't dispel any of the ever increasing myths.

I have no idea if we who ask for some complexitity and depth to be added back to Healers (and those who were lacking, got some) are in the proverbial minority, but even those who enjoy it how it is now I wonder how long it'll last before there is nothing more to master or improve left.

The cards just now feel underwhelming and don’t seem to make any real contribution or difference to your party (6% dps increase seems tiny) so why use them?

There’s little point playing in noct sect because of the MP cost to shields.

Some of the healing abilities are nice, like lightspeed, earthly star and neutral sect, but they don’t feel that strong and earthly star is very situational. It could do with more aoe heals like scholar for example.

AST dps also feels very weak too.

All I see mostly in savage is White Mage and Scholar combination so I guess AST is out in the cold this expansion. :(

Earthly Star is the opposite of situational, it's very powerful even if you have to pop it earlier and even if the heal isnt needed you can still use it for some additional damage. And if your ranged refuse to stand in it? Oh well. This is a team game,

As far as aoe heals go they're in a very good spot, especially with the 5.0 buffs.

The cards only seem overwhelming, but considering you're constantly providing 3 to 6% additional damage every 30 seconds, and said 6% party damage buff stacks with the cards, you're providing more group damage then you think.

Noct AST is probably the only point I remotely agree with you on. But even then it still has a trick or two, like the regen on its version of Intersection. Fortunately, the last live letter did mention nocturnal ast is being looked at, so at least something has been promised.

I got AST and SCH to 78 last night. Working on getting my WHM there as well. FTR, I don't level jobs I don't enjoy playing.

I do not feel the changes are anywhere near as drastic as people make them out to be; at least in progressive content anyway. WHM and AST both feel improved. SCH is the only one that truly feels different from what it used to be, but not bad different; just different. I am having a lot of trouble adjusting to the removal of pet actions, but can still place Lily. This still has me access the pet hotbar, which pretty much defeats the purpose of removing the pet skills.

I like that AST is harder, hence its what I will queue as now when we need a healer versus my former main, SCH.

I hope if SE does fix this that they opt for making it more rewarding than making it easier. Sadly less rewarding and making things easier has been their approach thus far.

I found when I was levelling SCH and AST it was mixed. I did the level 75 and 77 dungeons thinking, "hey this is kinda fun", then I got to the level 79 dungeon and most of it was me spamming Art of War. I found if people's gear, including my own was low, which it has often been on the 70 to 80 dungeons, then it has been more enjoyable. The problem comes when there is a lot of downtime, which increases the better we get and the better gear we get, as well as others getting better and getting better geared.

I think the healing spells when they get their proper usage are suitable and can be enjoyable to use. But I don't often find I get the proper usage out of them. Healer main from my first day playing; it's my favorite role outside of support, which this game lacks. Leveled all healers to 80 at the start of ShB. Pretty much only play PLD at this point.

When the dev team can stop disrespecting this role by gutting identities, trampling job lore, and balancing around an extremely small percentage of Savage raiders, is when I'll go back full-time.
