So if AF armor comes from a solo quest series (which we all know given our experience of solo quests in FFXIV will be neither fun or challenging), what is in the 2 dungeons?
Or is it like Darkhold, useless.

This is both good and bad sounding at the same time. Finally it seems that they are making an effort to make U/U armor more than a joke in comparison to crafted and melded armor. But then directly after that statement it looks like in the future they will be undermining this. They either need to make them seperate but equal like melded = stats and AF = trait and ability enhancers, or just make them equal (potentially) and tier them. For instance AF armor = crafted and melded x2 armor, then later they come out with relic armor = crafted and melded x 3 armor, etc etc. Another idea is they could move to U/T gear from dungeons and instances that has to be craftd from rare materials and can be multi-melded. Whatever they do, for the love of God, please dont play favorites with the 2 different systems every patch making one better than the other.
I could have sworn I read this too, which is what I was basing my post on, but I can't seem to find the dev post now for the life of me. I started to think maybe I imagined it until you posted this. I wonder where it went...
It certainly is possible they will make these new quests difficult and requiring a party, but I have my doubts about that.
It's way easier to level in FFXI then it is in FFXIV. Guess you haven't played FFXI in the Abyssea era. You can go from level 1-99 in about 8 hours on any job. 1-30 if leeching people doing GoV in gusgen or boyada which doesn't take as long at all. 30 to 99 you can leech an FC in abyssea and be capped in no time. Only like 1 or 2 people even need to be killing the mobs and the other 16 can just sit there and leech exp. You can afk for almost all of your leveling too.
Leveling in FFXIV is a pain by comparison.
I would hope a harp. So I can use something other than my voice on Bard. But I'm afraid that'd fall under Job-specific weapons, which we don't get yet.. :(
But you have a point, unless the dungeon gear is meldable, it does seem like there's going to be competition between AF gear vs. new dungeons and/or primal weapons vs. new dungeons. :/
I did fully stop playing XI a while ago so this could very well be the case.
However, I did play for quite a while in the "abyssea era" and I can tell you that it was few and far between the people that were able to leech levels as quickly as is technically possible in XI. It requires everyone else to be ok with you sitting there doing nothing. For most, that simply wasn't going to happen.
One can only hope, in turn making Yoshida wonder what he was thinking and then completely scrapping the materia system .. or maybe not :(
I would like to think the new instances are somehow linked to the AF gear, hopefully multiple quests to return to both dungeons to get all gear pieces.
If the gear is soloable them I will be disappointed.
People pretty much shout all day in jeuno advertising FC party for like 50-100k an hour which is almost nothing now. You can even get it free if you do keys, sometimes people will be like hold KIs for me and you get free exp, a couple weeks ago I got a KI held it for the guy my blm went form like 40 to 99 in about 5 hours.
They have been spending much more time on these quests for the jobs than any other sort of side-quests we've been getting. That's why I don't find it to be a far stretch of the mind to expect these to be on another tier when it comes to quest challenge.
As for the dungeons, despite what we may think, JSE won't be the only high level gear we continue to get. Besides, the job quests aren't giving the weapons. i think the weapons themselves aren't even gonna be in 1.21. So any new class weapons, as well as gear overall can be expected of the new dungeons.
We'll see what happens.
I hope Conjurer/White Mage has to DD in their job quest. >.>; I can't help thinking of WHM Maat... v_v''
You can get Relic from Dynamis...like crazy. I never leave a zone without 10+ armors lol. You only spent "years farming" the first year it was released, you did Dynamis for relics (weapons), armor was an added bonus.
Trial of magians is probably the route they're going with as its a long (and sometimes challenging) set of quests.
What they could be doing is adding special stats to the job gear like double attack and haste and latent effects or whole set effects and let crafted materia stick with the basic materia stats
I like how ppl say don't make this game like XI, but you wanna get your af gear the same shity way XI did lol -.-. Getting AF gear in XI was not hard standing there killing mobs for a key for about 2 hrs was not hard or any of the quest bosses if you had an pt. Also @ Wynm or w/e You could easily get 1-50 in xi in 3 days before ToA expansion, a lot of you guys seem to have this magic memory of xi lvling taking 4 years to do. Only thing that made xi lvling take a long time if you stood in jeuno with your flag waiting for a pt instead of making your own party.
You can keep telling your self that Stop trying to make XI to be this super hard game to lvl in. I got my Hume pld to 1-50 in 3 days after i Deleted my lvl 70 Taru rdm. Took me 3 days to lvl war 1-30 and pld 1-50. This was when i was in high school summer break and nothing else to do you can keep calling bs but its facts. Even after WotG the First Dancer on Vqlefor was lvl 75 in 2 Days -.-
Active players even for myself it didn't take 3 days.. I tested this out with a Galka I made and made my own parties 1-50 and I was able to do it a a week at least. I stopped at 60 in which took me another 3-5 days. I'm sorry but I'm calling bull on 3 days unless you always had a party to do so for those 3 days. Either way you look at it FFXI is in the past and I don't care to discuss about it.. FFXIV is new a better things that I'm hoping it will flourish to all it can be.
I think the thing people keep forgetting is that orginally FFXI had a level cap of 50, just like FFXIV does. The AF quests in XI took an entire party to farm the keys and kill the NM's if you did it between 50-60. They were HARD! Three of us were trying to get our BLM hats and had to get the aid of a 55 SMN to tank the elemental with carbuncle while we nuked, died, raised without hate and repeated. Took 25minutes to kill it. Even recently I remade a character on XI, got WAR to 40 to unlock AF weapon quest and couldnt solo it until I was 50. At 50 I unlocked the AF feet quest and I couldn't solo it until I was 60 and that was sub DNC for TP cures. I remember having a terrible time fighting those two orcs even at 70 before DNC came out! And don't get me started on farming keys in The Eldiemme Necropolis or Garliage Citadel.
The quests could be just as challenging, if not more so, this time around. Unlocking the jobs at 30 (just like in XI) is designed for 30's and at 30 will likely be soloable/duoable. At 50 they're going to be a cinch to solo no question about that. The armor though... I see that being a headache and a half, especially if it's going to be better than a triple meld item.
tl;dr - read it! :P There's plenty of hope for a challenge.
If its bull explain to me why its not possible then. i got 1-32 in one day is that believable to you? Hell actually you can get get 1-37 in less than 24 hrs it's possible and has been done many times. So if someone can get 1-37 in one day why not 37-45 the next day, and 46-50 the next. Also no TNL's from 1-50 are over 8k You can easily get 3-4k exp an hr with any pt set up pre 41.
It's not that XI was hard it was that Mostly no classes outside of BLM PuP BST BLU NIN THF PLD MNK SMN RDM could solo well. The game was not solo friendly. This is the same game where once you hit 50+ EP mobs was actually EM in challenge. XI just has this artificial barrier making you thinking the game was hard cause you could not do anything solo. IF every class in the game had tools like the above classes the game wouldn't have even seemed that hard.
Did no one else catch this contradiction where first Rukkirii said that we won't be able to attach materia to job specific gear, then says that new gear will be better than job specific gear with multiple materia attached (which can't have materia attached).
I do realize that the second bolded statement can be taken to mean that the new gear with multiple materia attached will be better than job specific gear, but then why not say it that way?
Somebody once told me that arguing in a public blog is like competing in the special olympics.
You may have won the gold medal, but you're still a retard.
Let's just get along and contribute to the actual thread topic...
I think it might mean that even though JSE will be strong, high Ilvl, etc whatever you wanna call it that the stats themselves might not be desireable for all situations.
Lets say the MNK gloves have +25 DEX, +15 ATK, which is as strong as a triple meld tier3s. Its possible to triple Meld Tier3s to have gloves with +40 STR which may be better than the JSE (well in my particular example it would be).
The itemization probably isn't going to be 100% optimal, and all these new pieces may be situational.
Like always, its best just to do the "wait and see" approach instead of freaking out about every last vague detail they provide.
What that quote meant is that JSE will be stronger than multiple materia melded gear you could get from a crafter.
@Firon: When you can show me proof of someone leveling like you claim Pre ToAU, I'll retract my call of BS. Until then, you're just flapping your gums.
I played that game for years, and I was a job whore so I played them all. Never did I personally see any possible way to do as you claim back then nor did I ever hear anyone claim to have done so, until now.
So psyched for 1.21
I think to even the AF's to current gear doing an AF2 style "bonus to job skills" over higher stats would be the way to go
or even unobtainable stats like "+50% block rate" (for PLD) or "+20% cure" (for WHM)
well 10 more days and we'll know right?
That's why you made your parties.
How to get AF in FFXI, from someone who played it:
AF - Speak with appropriate NPC, this is generally the quest for your AF weapon. You then complete it and use it or toss it (depending on year you did this, as there's better weapons in this day and age.) Level to 50+ do your next 2 quests, get those pieces, then you kill mobs for a coffer key, open your coffer, completed set.
AFv2 - Go to dynamis, kill shit, walk out with every job AF most likely (if you actually play you'd know they skyrocketed drop rates on this, even on Duelist Chapeaus and Ass Gauntlets, I've floored 20 of them in one run alone.)
AFv3 (Empyrean) - Buy the base armor from appropriate zone, trade to the magian moogle, slaughter usually SPAWNABLE NMs, collect your 8 seals (10 for body), trade it get your armor set, (feet has to be obtained from gold chests), then go slaughter tougher enemies (usually zone bosses and dragon birds of rapes) for 6-9 items to +2 them.
AFv2+2 - Head back to dynamis, collect 30 or 50 items (depends if you want to skip a step) then gain 20,000 exp while wearing said armor and bam, upgraded and augmented armor.
None of the ways are "shitty" as they all work in their respectable way. Only people who expect everything handed to them would find the ways "shitty" as you have to put in an iota amount of work to obtain them.
Both of these methods was pretty shitty, If you don't think sitting there killing the same mobs for a key for a few hrs wasn't shitty then idk <.<. Also having Some gear in dyna being so rare that it could take up to a year to get is Shitty no matter how you look at it PLD AF2 body took me a year to get because of the stupid 1% drop rate and the few mobs that would drop it. Dyna could support 48 ppl i think, and only 4-6 of them go home with something to show yup that's great design right there ^_^. Shame i got my Shield to stage 4 before i got an PLD AF2 body. Now if you went to Dyna for CoR, SCH, BLU, DNC, and PUP AF rained like candy for them.Quote:

Trust me i played XI for 7 years and loved but, I'm not gonna pretend that all their content was done correctly.
She's saying that artifact armor will be better than current crafted gear with multiple materia on it, but in future they will make new crafted gears that are better than artifact armor if you put multiple materia on it.
