I'd rather them skip on the meaningless fluff (such as new character models) and instead give the game a real end game. There were 4 relevant events in 1st Coil.. 2 years later we still have 4 relevant events. Not to mention were still doing 1 group "raid" content.
True, but but the Yuke design would satisfy both the "retains humanoid shape for gear creation ease (SE)" and the "it's not just a human with different ears/horns/tails/etc (playerbase)" ideals. Automatons would be a nice addition to the game. If they follow the Yuke design, it would be a nice FF throwback.
I always liked the tall, elegant look they had in Crystal Bearers.
I don't mind if Viera were more animal then human.
That is how it should be, that would make them unique.

Would definitely play as Freya's rat race
I would love to play a Viera :)
Honestly they need a full beast race, auras are like the cats, mostly look like humans.. something like ... oh i don't know i'm just throwing an example here like the Ronso or something.
What ARE Viera? They're tall humans with rabbit ears and long nails. It's not being oversimplistic, it's just literally what those demi-"beast"men are. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but you can't act like Viera are the most unique and perfect addition. I mean, look at the census for 2015, The Au Ra are smaller minority than the Roegadyn, I guess that making more cute/sexy women doesn't bring in as many people are you think either. The point I've made before is that the Roegadyn and Highlander aren't fierce because the men of their race are already even more fierce than them, if you keep it within the race (As you should when discussing things like the aesthetics of a race) then the women aren't nearly as fierce as you think they are. For example, Roegadyn men are massive bulks of mass with flat square heads, their shape is hardly humanoid. Now compare that too Roegadyn women, who have much more human body shapes and facial structures. Roegadyn Men generally appeal to folks who like "bears" and men who want to be massive inhuman giant folks, Roegadyn women generally appeal to folks who either want to imagine Roegadyn women in a vacuum (And thus give them that fierce and tough appearance) or folks who like "amazonian" sexy women. If people go into the game looking for a race where the women aren't half the size of the men (Either in height or thickness) and way leagues feminine of the men of their race they're not going to find it, currently or with the addition of Viera, and heck that's a problem (As you're still not trying to target that demographic). What on earth are you talking about in comparing FFXIV to FFXII and saying "in a lot of ways is" like.. What? I mean, can I say FF9 is basically FFXI or something?
But hey, you're right! The original girl Au Ra design isn't as fierce as I'd prefer, but it'd be leagues more tolerable (Assuming the heights aren't still pathetically short and their emotes aren't also comparable to an excitable tween) than what we have. Heck, I personally think most people like the original Au Ra design because they've got bigger hips and bigger breasts (Invoking that "Sexy succubus" that a lot of people really want), which I really don't particularly care for. Fierce really isn't an extreme definition when what I'm saying is "Hey can we have a race that looks as badass and strong as the men of their race?". Give 'em an option for a flatter chest (Though, hey! Make it so the breast slider goes from "flat" to "massive", I don't really care as long as I'm sated), make sure the heights are equal, have it so things like scale mass & patterns aren't different between the sexes (Or, hey, ideally make it a toggle or slide!), and give them at least one tough face. Maybe you need another game, FFXII maybe?
They're not really "manly" when the men of their race are still twice as "manly" as them. We can't use other races to compare them too either, or else literally every race is manly as Lalafell are dumb little blobs on the extreme end. If we keep things within races, Roegadyn or Highlander women are no where near as masculine or tough looking as their men.. And that's kinda the problem.
Shrugs, I mean, they're introducing the Void Ark.. And that doesn't mean the Dev team can't focus on more than one thing. It's also a little rude to come into a thread asking for entirely off topic things, don't you think? Like it wouldn't be cool if someone waltzed in on one of the class threads going "This is all meaningless fluff, I play this game for the lore and characters, Dev team, make more clothes for me and not this dumb stuff".
Moogles would be cute, but I think adding moogles (Especially when we already have our own moogles) would just annoy the demographic asking for a beastman race. I think they're looking more at something like the Sahagin, Amalj'aa, or Ixal.
I wouldn't mind Burmecian.. Or I'd probably be massively happy if we were given a legit reptilian race. I'm hoping for something more unique to be honest.
Quick point, but this is due to the relatively small amount of people who purchased Heavensward compared to those 5 or so million who purchased ARR and quit shortly after. If you were to take a look at active players only, you'd see that both female Au Ra and Miqo'te greatly outnumber the other races, especially Roegadyn. I'm not quite sure why you made this point as it's essentially void if you've bothered to pay attention to the races commonly found in game.
Anecdotal observations != Data. I mean, how many RMT bots do you think just select default midlander dude, does that mean suddenly any data about the genders of characters or midlander statistics are now null and void? I look at a lot of character models, and I've seen plenty of all the various races, guys and girls, but that doesn't matter because again Anecdotal observations != Data. (And.. As a side note, arguably speaking, because Roegadyn and Au Ra aren't likely choices for RMT bots, the data shown in the 2015 census is still valid.)
Both are void, but in this case the anecdotal data you so quickly throw away is a more accurate telling than the data that included race two years before the Au Ra existed. No one can deny that there is currently more Au Ra around than Roegadyn, and I'd think you'd be silly to believe you. It would be like asking for the amount people currently employed in two different careers, one of them being a pilot and the other being a writer. Of course if you were take all the data since the beginning of humanity the writers would outnumber the amount of pilots quite significantly. I know it's an extreme example, but it does get my point across.
And yes, I've also seen many posts that consider that data to be void due to bot participation. That is why a lot of people ask for active character data, but they're reluctant to give that to us.
FFXIV 2nd expansion: Viera-like race still a possibility?
Yes it's definitely a possibility.
- They already have character designs drawn up.
- In my opinion all the current races are essentially Hyur Midlanders with minor adjustments so implementation would be a lot easier than creating an beastial race and adjusting current and future gear to accommodate them (I think they will have sandal feet like the rest)
- I'm no Final Fantasy buff, but I believe like moogles, they are entirely unique to SE/Final Fantasy and quite iconic with the potential to rake in a lot of money. They will add Viera in a later expansion and gate them just as they did with Au Ra (I feel there's quite a lot of people, even if they don't play now, bought Heavensward for the Au Ra)
If that happens can we have a Fran as a special guess with her own quest? We had enough lightning for now
Neither Viera nor Bangaa have ever been mentioned in game, not even once. Viangaa, however, have been (Moonfire Faire 2014), April Fools' joke or no.
Two birds, one stone.
Just flashing a few of my favourite Vieroe.
I left my favourite ever picture of her out in the open <3

Uh, just because they have concept art does not mean it's guaranteed - that's the whole point, it's a concept, an idea. It's a normal part of game development. They draw up ideas and concepts and through a process of elimination and debate decide what to develop further and what to abandon to the rubbish bin, with the 'viera mkII' designs seeming to be well in the later I'm afraid.
Besides, Yoshi has repeatedly stated why viera are not going to be added - there is already one 'human/animal hybrid' race in the game in the form of the miqote, thus he doesn't want new races to just be 'more humans with animal parts'. Really, he even admitted during the event that artwork was shown that he was "reluctant to show it," knowing full well players would take it completely out of context and believe that it's going to be added to the game, which it will not. But I digress.
You already can dress up like a bunny with the ears I mean you pretty much are a Viera with those ears.
Did they?
Both the Horns and Au'Ra came out at the same time, when HW released (granted, players had access to the Auri way before they could get the Horns).
Viera were originally considered even after the release of the ears.
Who's to say the Horns weren't planned to be implemented before the Au'Ra idea was on the table?
Au'Ra, at least the female model, was available to an NPC before the release of Heavensward.
We'll never really know what Square-Enix intends to do in terms of a Viera-like race, but the demographic they tailor to that plays this game REALLY wants them and I'd be foolish to believe Square-Enix wouldn't eventually cave in to it.
SE also did say they went with a feminine choice for the females due to those being the most popular among the community. I did love the more demonic concept art for both males and females though, they looked unique and interesting. If we're just going to get more humanoid races with different ears I don't see the point in getting more races, if we get something like Lalafell but more beastly, or something similar to the Worgen from WoW then that would be awesome. There's a reason why WoW can do it quite easily, and that's because the chest piece is just a flat texture with giant shoulder pads that they can readjust unlike FFXIV's more intricate designs.
I only recently saw that concept art myself, I'm rather disappointed we didn't get it. I'll have to agree with the thought of giving us something that isn't "cute" or "pretty." Not that I'm saying we need an "ugly" race, but something can be aesthetically appealing without being "cute" or "pretty."
Arguments on this subject are pointless, because unless Yoshi literally says 'were never going to implement a Viera', it's a possibility. He may have been reluctant to show the fan art and he may not want to implement it at this moment in time, but that doesn't mean it's never ever going to happen.
Besides, if enough people request it, (and I mean enough..) I'm 99% sure SE will eventually implement it.

Conveniently very adjustable!
Not necessarily, I mean, I've seen plenty of the races just around the world and in duty finder (Sans Elezen I suppose lol), which disagrees with your anecdotal data, hence why it really can't be used. There's way to many factors that come into play with using anecdotal data in such an uncontrolled setting. For example, because you play Miqo'te, that means you might hang around people who enjoy the Miqo'te aesthetic more, which would also plop you into the same crowd that just adores the Au Ra most. And even then, while Roegadyn have existed in the game for much longer, you'd still think with how popular the Au Ra supposedly are, they'd still outnumber the Roegadyn at least. The game gives a free fantasia, the data for the Census was likely collected in either August or a week before the census was released (And as a personal note, I saw way more Au Ra right after Heavensward, but that decreased with time), and you're going to likely see the most major growth for a new race like the Au Ra immediately after its release.. Due to those issues, you can't just cast away the census's data as completely unreliable, it has to suggest something, as it's the closest to legitimate quantitative data that we've got. And while that comparison sounds valid, it doesn't take in account the sudden burst of people who want to/easily can be Au Ra (Anyone can be a writer, especially if you've seen a lot of the writing over the course of history, but to be a pilot requires a lot of special training), to which, I highly doubt many more people made a lot of Au Ra in between August and October, there's no reason to suggest that there would be a particularly massive population boom.
The only issue is there's still plenty of "active" bots who would still get count in the data.
It's a given that you'd see plenty of races around the world, I didn't claim that they were practically nonexistent. I do believe it's impossible to reasonably deny that there's at least double the amount of female Au Ra than there are female Roegadyn. As for hanging around with people that share the same preference in race as me, I'm not so sure if that's the case. Most people I know are fantasia maniacs and they're changing about what seems like every other day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. The free Fantasia also came after the first month, it's highly likely that most players would have used it at that point, even if it was just to change something minimal like eye/skin colour. While there are plenty of female Roegadyn and Hyur, and think it's undeniable that for each one of those you see, you'll find 2 female Miqo'te, Au Ra, or Lalafell.
That's definitely true, but assuming that SE bans bots actively, it would be the difference between 2 years worth of bots and a month's worth of bots.
I would much rather see a wolf race.
Just like final fantasy 6's own Lone wolf http://orig00.deviantart.net/0c7a/f/...ne-d8o33ux.png
Or we could do the espers.
Since the esper world existed and espers as a race and to get into the esper world we do quest until we get the medalion that is a neck piece which allows us to enter esper world.
though the esper race whoever is a esper dont need it. I mean primals exist so they must have some sort of spot in this world right?
Or something totally new that has not been seen in other final fantasy games that is a FFXIV made race exclusive to this game. make it crazy
In hindsight I should have added more detail to my post to avoid having somebody misconstrued or just blatantly claim I said something I did not and risk it not being read (although I'm not 100% sure you actually read what I posted anyway), blimey you even quoted me...
Moving on...
I think an issue with new races is the amount of effort and time taken to implement that race in the game with regards to armor, emotes - physical movements, clipping issues (besides horns and tails >.<) versus their appeal to the player-base.
It seems like a lot of work for it to only appeal to a handful of your players.
With the Au Ra in mind, I feel that any future race is just going to be "humans with animal parts", a handful of players may not like it and may want something totally new and not just "humans with animal parts", but the majority of the players do like "humans with animal parts" or just plain humans because as many people in my experience believe: Glamour is the true endgame and it's all about how your character looks to you and other people.
I think it's just a question of what animal parts to stick onto humans:
Cat [check]
Lizard [check]
Wolf [ ]
Rabbit [ ]
MouseBatChrismasdecorationonhead [ ]
Fish [ ]
I think the Ascians are sort of FFXIV's implementation of FFXII Espers, but yea I might Fantasia if I too could be a semi-horse woman with a giant thing on her head ^^
So you have done random sample polling of people who play this game from all possible geographical areas, analyzed the data, created a bell curve, took into consideration a 4% margin of error, weighed trends, analyzed the random sample by age, race, region, education and gender to discover demographic characteristics, made considerations for your own bias, etc etc etc
Or did you look at a snapshot of numbers released by SE and/or are relating the information relayed to you by the small handful of gamers you speak to in game and here on the forums?
Honestly as all races are just "humans or humans with animal parts" and as there are no truly non-humanoid race this is something that cannot be given a definitive answer.

Man do I love forums like these lol
lol sorry to drop a little actual statistical research methodology on you lol
No, you do not need to do anything but enter the game and see which race populates it. As Sam said, it's anecdotal but with my 1+ years in this game, that has been the case. Yoshida did admit that players like the more cutesy races, so there's no point in arguing about it.
That does not mean you only pander to one audience. Tell me, if you have 3 races that cater to the 75% but none that cater to that 25%, do you create fourth for the 75% or one for the 25%? I'm all for Viera if they look more unique and not Miqo'te with bunny ears. I think FFXII's rendition is nice, tall, elegant, while being different. I would like something different personally, like Goblins (but not Goblins please).
Yea I see what you're saying Colorful, but I'm essentially saying it's more lucrative to pander to the 75% (purchasing the game, fantasias), but also one can say that 75% of the play base is quite a significant number, wouldn't one be able to use this as an indication that the template of a race is popular not just in FFXIV but MMOs in general and therefore have the potential to persuade individuals into trying the game
I feel that the 25% would initially be disappointed (I sure was when Au Ra females came out and then seeing the scrapped concept(?) art) but just continue playing - essentially making no difference to SE
I too would like a fierce Viera Race
DISCLAIMER: I did not carry out any formal investigations for this post
Again, debatable imho, especially the Lalafell bit. I mean, until there are actual in depth statistics about it, I think it's best to rely on the data SE has given us. Like I said though, the apparent popularity of the Au Ra would likely mean that their biggest population boom was right as soon as they were released. I mean, come on now, don't you find it a little odd that even after two months of existing that the overall population is still in a less than the Roegadyn's according to the census?
While also discussing the census, I feel it's kinda interesting to note that from 2014 to 2015, the overall population of Roegadyn increased by 1% across the board, while sans Miqo'te in the European data had decreased a variety of percents
Yep, and the statistics currently indicate at least an unconscious bias towards cutesy characters (Though I love my Roegadyn alts <3).. But I do really wish Yoshida and the Dev team would just focus on making changes and races that appeal to a plethora of demographics as opposed to only cute/sexy races. Like, would it really have killed them to make it so that the Auri women could go anywhere from 4'8 to 7'3..? Or If there was at least one more masculine/tough facial option for them? Or if there was the option to either have the scale pattern that the guys have or the girls have? Or some emotes/cposes that aren't reminiscent of a excitable tween? Like all of those seem like ridiculously easy to think of and implement (If they were worked on from the start) and I really wish the dev team would do something with ideas like those. I'd be way more sated and even fine with adding the Viera or any other cute race if I could have a "Wide as a guy" version of a girl Roegadyn or "Tall, spiky, and rough" version of the Au Ra
I don't think FFXII's rendition of the Viera would add much, if at all, to the game that Elezen with long nails and bunny ears wouldn't, most people aren't willing to accept that idea as valid in the least though. I mean, really now, the Viera concept are looks like the concept art for the Elezen, just with kinda digitigrade legs and bunny ears to me. On your goblin comment.. Does anyone know where the heck the dev team (And probably FF in general) got their idea for goblins? I'm a little curious about them because they look so.. Odd, especially when compared to like D&D esque goblins.
Today in the Void ark preview they just added the term Sky pirate.
they should have listened to every single demographic by making xaela females like concept art and those who want cute chars make them as raen
